Bushy House is a colonial style cottage nestled in a ravine garden just outside historic Old Town. The Merton is one of two generous suites we provide. A full breakfast is delivered to your room or on your own deck: slow down, and - enjoy.

The space

At Bushy House, we have created a space for you to get away, regroup and slow down. The B&B suites are quiet and tasteful, and include fireplace and seating area, kichenette, and ensuite. Nonsmoking. Wifi is available and TV/DVD/VCR is provided. The Merton Suite can be made up as two twin beds or as a king-sized bed. There are two sitting chairs, near the bed, in front of the fireplace. Out on your deck, you can enjoy the quiet of the forest and the many birds that frequent our area, as you sip one of our local wines or enjoy the delicious breakfast we have prepared.

Guest access

Your hosts live in the house, and are available for any questions or concerns. Otherwise, access is limited to the designated B&B areas within the house and all the gardens about. The kitchenettes in the suites are suitable for your own cold lunch or snack preparation, but not for cooking. The Merton Suite shares an entrance with the Lewis Suite, separate from the host entrance.

Interaction with guests

Interaction with the hosts is generally limited to the serving of breakfast, casual exchanges of enquiries, and spontaneity in the gardens. We are a friendly family, but try to give you some privacy as well.

Other things to note

Our B&B is part of the Fresh Start Initiative: dedicated to serving 85% local produce. We are minutes walk from the local Farmer's Market on Saturday mornings, and we raise our own chickens. Niagara is rich in orchards and vineyards, with fruit stands in abundance all through the week. There are many wineries throughout the peninsula, ranging from small family enterprises to large established names. Wine tours are a lovely way to spend an afternoon, whether you do it yourself or with the benefit of an informative and fun tour guide company. There are several in the area.

The Bushy House is a gem in the charming Niagara-on-the-Lake region! We stayed in the Merton Suite. My husband and I stayed for our 4 year anniversary. Jodi surprised us with a little bottle of sparkling rośe and 2 chilled champagne flutes! The room was extremely clean and comfy cozy. Jodie’s attention to detail is impressive. The breakfast is probably the best part of the stay. The food Jodie prepares is not only amazing but her presentation is lovely and oh so thoughtful! The private entrance is wonderful so you can come and go as you’d like. My husband and I will definitely be back! We hope to try the larger suite next time. I highly recommend this b&b for people looking for a comfy stay with privacy and a feeling of home. Thank you Jodie!!!

This is a great place to stay in NOTL - a true bed and breakfast. The breakfasts both mornings were amazing and huge. It was lovely to sit at the patio table and look out on the beautiful garden in the morning. The room was well-equipped with everything we needed and Jodie and her daughter were excellent hosts!

Jodie is the perfect host. She thinks of all the small details to make your sure your stay meets all your needs. The breakfasts are amazing and if you can enjoy them outside in the backyard patio, amongst all the song birds makes it all the more special. The Merton room was very comfortable with private bathroom and sitting area inside and outside. The back entrance was shared with other guests staying in the other room, which was never a problem. Bushy House is a perfect place to stay.

Jodie has a beautiful space, quiet and lush, felt like we were far away from the city. Breakfast we amazing and enough food to keep us going for most of the day. It is a 15 minute bike ride into the city center. We loved it and will definitely tell all our friends. It was perfect for our romantic get away.

Jodie was the perfect host. The room we had was a wonderful place to regroup after a hard day of biking. She was helpful and attentive. The breakfast she served us (in our room or on our patio) was sublime. We would recommend her B&B to anyone and would consider ourselves very lucky if we got to come again.

Bushy House is amazing. Jodie is very warm and welcoming. The suite we stayed in had everything we needed plus so many extras. Best of all was the breakfast each morning. Thoughtfully planned and absolutely delicious! We ate outside in Jodie's beautiful garden and watched a variety of birds at her feeders. Highly recommend Bushy House

Jodie's place is a wonderful escape from city life and a great way to visit Niagara On The Lake - she was so welcoming, helpful and friendly. The BnB is lovely and has everything we needed to be comfortable, from a lovely claw food tub to a handy kitchen corner and dining area. The gardens are beautiful and the atmosphere is lush, peaceful and rural to the max, even though you're just a few minutes from the hustle bustle of NOTL. We had a great weekend, and we already can't wait to get back!

I am an artist who works sculpturally, lives creatively, teaches art at various elementary schools, and runs a successful B&B. Our family are all committed Christians, and we strive to live that out relationally and with integrity. And thankfulness.
I enjoy my book group, gardening, and our chickens. Our town is small and quaint; we have some good friendships here. Life expands even more as we have come to form friendships with some of the Jamaican seasonal workers who labour in the orchards and vineyards around us. Currently, I sit on the National Board of Young Life, and it is a privelege to work in this way with a wonderful organization. I count Young Life people among my most cherished life-long friendships. That responsibility heads me out to Western Canada a couple of times a year, where I can also take time to connect with family. My sister is a painter, and we love to get in the studio together (and watch a few movies in the evenings).
I do love film, and when I am feeling particularly in need of comfort I'll plug in a Jane Austen or Elizabeth Gaskell. Food is a good thing, and we have our share of local seasonal yummies around us. And don't get me started on music: Mozart to Bill Munroe to Van Morrison to Talking Heads - and a lot of in between.
