Come and experience what life was like in a small village in the old days! You'll stay in a 19th century farmhouse in the beautiful and very tranquil village of Ardre, 40 km from Visby and 6 km from beautiful beaches. You'll dispose of
- a big loft with a sofa bed, 3 single beds, a kitchenette and a table for 6
- an outside shower room (hot water)
- an old-time toilet (no water).
Some weeks you'll also dispose of a bedroom on the ground floor with 2 single beds and a piano.

The space

Halsegårda is a big traditional limestone farmhouse. The surroundings are beautiful and very tranquil, with no passing traffic. The 13th century village church is situated just a few hundred meters down the road, boarded by meadows. The village of Ardre, is situated just 6 km from Ljugarn which has a beautiful beach, restaurants and shops.

Guest access

You access the loft through an outside staircase which ends with a balcony with morning sun, perfect for a lazy breakfast.
You also have a big part of the garden to yourself, with garden furniture, a swing set and a small barbecue.
When we're there, we're staying in the main building.
You can see the old farmhouse implements, such as the stead where the blacksmith worked, the big oven where bread was baked.
And you will be using the old style outside toilet without water. Don't worry though, you have a modern shower with hot water just outside your door.

Interaction with guests

When I'm there I'll be happy to give you advice about where to go and what to visit! If I'm not there myself I can give you ideas by email.

Other things to note

We prefer you bringing your own sheets and towels. If that is not possible, we can also provide them for 150 SEK per person for the stay.

We expect our guests to take care of their own dishes and leave the place clean and tidy when they leave. The cleaning fee of 600 SEK which is added to your booking comprises more thorough cleaning and setting everything right for the next guests.

The island of Gotland experiences serious water shortage, so we need to ask you to be responsible in your water usage.

The municipality of Gotland is very serious about recycling, so we need to ask you to do your part in recycling.

Malena's place is awesome. The house is so nice. And the nature around it is amazing! Bunnies walking across the yard and swallows under the roof )) the interior is very special and very attractive. We (a family of 6) spend lovely week there!

The house is in a lovely part of Gotland, at the end of the road. It's very quiet and calm. The house itself is very well kept and has all the amenities you'd expect. We we're 2 adults and 2 adolescents + 1 dog, and we had a great time.

We had a magic week at Malenas loft. The pictures of the place and the description of a calm place to spend a week close to everything you can wish for on this island are actually only giving a hint of what you get - the truth is - and hold on now - it's ten times up and more than better. My boyfriend me and our Siberian Husky loved the loft. It's a beautiful fairytale looking and cosy airy and spacey old style mini house but with all you need. The outdoor shower was an experience in it self - you can actually enjoy the company of beautiful butterflies outside the little wooden window while shampooing your hair. Their was always hot water and the small kitchenette had all that we needed. We enjoyed many evenings using the grill for barbecues at dinner time. The surroundings are typical "gotlandic" and if you have interest in history you are actually staying in the middle of an old Viking midevil village, a Stone Age castle and if you take a walk around the house you will find old landmarks from people living there hundreds of years ago. We could go on for ever about how much we loved our stay and are really hoping that we can come back. We never got the chance to meet Malena but her friends were there living at the main house at the same time as us. But since the loft has a big garden in the front of the house you are staying in if you rent the loft you will have so much privacy you wish for and the small balcony just outside the loft is fronting only nature and if you are lucky the friendly cows that sometimes show up close to the house. We are both very familiar with Gotland and in love with the island and couldn't have found a more perfect place. 5 km to a grossery shop open until 9 o clock every day. Same distance to the beach and two late night open restaurants with really god seafood and pizzas. Best meal during our stay nearby was at Herrviks sea restaurant. Go there if not only for the food so for the view, the chill out bar lounge and don't forget to enjoy the beautiful ride there and stop an extra time to just breath in the air of the ocean the nearby "raukar" before you sit down at the wooden terrace at the harbour for some fresh seafood.

Enkelt boende i fin miljö. Funkade bra för våra barn 3 och 6 år. Nära fina Ljugarn och Folhammars raukområde med bil, inte heller särskilt långt till tex Katthammarsvik.
