Our Shepherd’s Hut is a cosy, small space, designed for couples wanting to experience these popular “tiny homes”! Guests are welcome to walk around the farm and visit with the tame animals. Relax on the deck and admire the beautiful, spacious views, then soak in the outdoor bathtubs under the sparkling stars of the Aoraki Mackenzie International Dark Sky Reserve. We also have our Dorper Shepherd’s Hut No. 1, if you’re travelling with another couple or hut No. 2 isn’t available.

The space
Our Shepherd’s Hut is a cosy, small space, designed for couples wanting to experience these popular “tiny homes”! Guests are welcome to walk around the farm and visit with the tame animals. Relax on the deck and admire the beautiful, spacious views, then soak in the outdoor bathtubs under the sparkling stars of the Aoraki Mackenzie International Dark Sky Reserve. We also have our Dorper Shepherd’s Hut No. 1, if you’re travelling with another couple or hut No. 2 isn’t available.

The farm: We encourage our guests to walk around the farm. It’s a great place to relax and visit the cute and entertaining farm animals who love to make new friends! We have sheep, alpaca, chickens, highland cattle and goats. We provide complimentary feed so you can handfeed the animals.

Airbnb tip: Consider booking a Shepherd’s Hut for a multiple night stay! It’s the perfect base to explore the Mackenzie Region, with Aoraki Mount Cook and Lake Tekapo a scenic 45-minute drive away.

Star Gazing: The Shepherd’s Hut is in the Aoraki Mackenzie International Dark Sky Reserve, which means it’s ideal for stargazing! On clear nights, soak in the outdoor bathtubs – you’ll see amazing stars and Milky Way and if you're lucky, a shooting star or two!

Shepherds Hut No. 2: A small, warm, and cosy tiny house experience with amazing views and friendly animals.

Bedroom 1: Queen bed (note there is one main living/cooking/sleeping area).

Kitchen: There is a 2-burner stove, fridge, kettle, toaster, and rice cooker. We provide tea, coffee, sugar, cookies, cooking oil, salt, and pepper. Dishwashing liquid is provided. A BBQ is and picnic table is outside on the deck.

Bathroom: The Shepherd’s Hut has a separate bathroom with shower, toilet, and sink.

Entertainment: Smart TV with free Netflix and fast Wi-Fi. There’s a skylight above the bed for stargazing!

Laundry: There is no laundry available in the Shepherd’s Hut but if you need some washing done, the owner is more than happy to accommodate.

Heating: It’s a new build (when???) and is warm and well insulated with double glazing and a heat pump in the living room.

Guest access
You don’t have to just stay in the accommodation area – please explore the whole property! There’s a map in the cottage with walks, showing where all the animals live. Please close gates behind you. Make sure you go into the sheep enclosure to handfeed the sheep (and see the lambs if it’s Spring time).

Enjoy stunning farm and mountain views, the spectacular Mackenzie dark skies, and the added bonus of very friendly farm animals who love to make new friends and be handfed!
