Why Book With Me:

By booking this listing you will have the invaluable experience and enjoyment of a communal vacation. You and your family/friends will experience the extra added warmth and comfort of enjoying your vacation together, something a hotel or apartment-style lodging can not offer. Enjoy the priceless feeling of spending quality time cooking, dining, relaxing or entertaining the ones you love and care the most, with plenty of space to spare.

You will also be helping a retiree keep his/her home and enjoy a decent retirement. After the 2008 financial crisis, many retirees were left with nothing and struggled to keep their homes. Thanks to Airbnb I have been able to directly help some of them keep their homes and manage their properties so to enjoy a well deserved and peaceful retirement. Thanks to your support and booking we can continue on helping those in need.

Also as a world traveler, I believe that one shouldn't spend lots of money on a hotel or room. Instead, most of the budget should go to the ADVENTURE itself. I also believe that affordability shouldn't compromise comfort or safety. This is why I offer the listings with the most value per dollar.

One of my best AirBnB experiences in the U.S. The house is easy to reach by bus from Port Authority Terminal in Manhattan, with one way bus ticket of $5.5 (using Roy's discounted ticket). The room and the rest of the house were very clean and cozy as advertised. Roy is a great, nice, and approachable guy. Very recommended.

Roy and his mother were friendly and mostly stayed to themselves while we were guests. The room looks exactly as pictured but lacked proper heating in the cold. Other than the room the house was quite dark and eerily quiet. Hillside is seemingly safe but not entirely so in the dark. Trains to and from New York only reach Newark Penn Station, which is a shady area. There are only two buses that operate from the city to New York and both are quite unreliable especially during weekends or holidays. The scheduled times are always incorrect and if you're returning back from the city after 11, there is no way to get from new york to hillside without a cab or car. Buses are also costly and would be much easier to stay in New York rather than in hillside in terms of saving money. Other than the transportation, the room and house were clean and nice to stay in and the kitchen was well stocked with proper utensils and appliances. There is also a walgreens, convenience store and some restaurants in walking distance quite near to the house that were very helpful.

The room was cozy and comfortable, they had cupboards for each person. I liked how the room and toilets were clean and big. The kitchen was a shared space, neat and clean. The house was equipped with everything we need. They even have a hair dryer. Overall, it was an enjoyable 6 nights. Roy and Nelly made sure we had everything we needed, great hosts!

The house is not private, upon my arrival I walked into the house to an older gentleman in the kitchen who was not Roy. He attempted to explain that he was the house keeper and that he lived in the basement! Which is clearly not described in the description. Secondly, there is a mobile home in the backyard that does not come equipped with a bathroom, so I woke up to that tenant inside the house using the bathroom and they have a set of keys to enter the house, also not included in the description. If you like peace and quite on the weekend this is not the place, the neighbors have a concrete soccer field in their backyard and have legit tournaments with referees and whistles and plau all day and night.

Response from Roy:
Once again my apologies about the confusion with the RV guest, new instructions have been created to avoid similar issues. However, the listing description does mention that the basement is used by the owner and that the parking lot is also shared.

Nelly is a marvelous person and very helpful host. The house itself is older, but well maintained and kept clean. Lady Nelly change bad sheets on regular basis and also took care of our dirty laundry, but for a fee, since she took them to a coin laundry down the street. There are towels in the house free to use and also hair and body shampoo, toilet paper, liquid soaps, hairdryer, iron etc. Bathrooms, rooms and all floors (ceramic tiles) are renovated. Kitchen has all it needs but I would recommend better designed dining area. The house itself lacks one living room, a place to socialize and rest, if you have the whole place for yourself and your mates/family. In the backyard, there is a “smoking area” table where you can also hang out, but on some occasions during the night we saw a skunk and few rats passing by, and during a day squirrels. In the neighborhood, there is a Walgreen Pharmacy just across the street, where you can buy basic needs and beyond. There is also a bus station close by for lines heading for New York’s Port Authority Bus Terminal. Neighborhood lacks some proper food corner, fast food restaurants or bakery. There are also no pubs nearby to hang out if you want to relax this way, neither there is liquor store and no other forms of entertainment close by (sports, etc.).
