Our house is a happy and comfortable home and we love welcoming guests. Set in the unspoilt beauty of the Dartmoor National Park, this is the perfect place to relax. With its flower-filled gardens and stunning views, we have acres of land to wander.

The space

The Dartmoor National Park is one of the last great wildernesses in England and we have it on our doorstep. Chagford (1.5miles from Monks) is an enchanting and lively market town, with a range of shops and pubs to suit all tastes and pockets. There is even a flea market on Fridays.

We have an art gallery, which you are very welcome to explore. The gardens are extensive - and the orchard is perfect for lolling around on deckchairs. We have created a wildlife sanctuary around a lake at the bottom of one of the fields. Watch butterflies and birds dart over the water. If you have bikes there is secure storage.

We love telling our guests about the local area, but equally understand if you just want to enjoy peace and quiet. We can show you wonderful walks - straight from the front door. Simon loves showing people around his mastering studio - Super Audio Mastering - which is in a unique roundhouse among the barns.

We love everything about Devon and Dartmoor and look forward to sharing them with you.

We are 25 minutes from Exeter St David railway station.

We have an extra room available. Please contact us for details and to discuss requirements. This a twin bedroom with a shared bathroom. We also have large fields with a solid field shelter if you would like to bring horses. The fields are usually used for sheep or cows (and a rogue heron or two.) They are in excellent condition with safe and secure fencing. Again, please contact us to discuss this first!

This is a perfect spot to enjoy the beauties of Dartmoor. The room was clean bright and comfortable, and having our own sitting room was an unexpected and welcome luxury. The breakfast was a cut above normal B&B fare and Simon and Nicky were welcoming hosts.

This is the perfect place to stay. Nothing seemed to be too much trouble and we felt very rested after our visit. The breakfasts were amazing and set us up for the day. It is the perfect situation for exploring North Dartmoor with lovely walking very near by.

Nicky and Simon's house was absolutely beautiful- inside and out. The house itself it set away from the busy main roads but not too far that it's difficult to travel there (only 30 mins from Exeter). They have glorious gardens looking out onto Cosdon Hill and you are free to wander these at leisure. We did some stargazing whilst we were there. Unfortunately we didn't meet Nicky, but if she's as lovely as Simon was then you are in for a treat! Simon was fantastic at giving directions to his favourite walks and has a great wealth of local knowledge. You can do walks right from the house and others are only a short drive away. Simon even treated us to tea and cake when we returned one day after a walk which went down very nicely. Their pumped spring water makes for the best cuppa I've tasted in a long time. The room itself was spacious and furnished really nicely. It has a little sitting area for those cosy evenings and it's all underfloor heated which makes for happy feet. Finally, the breakfast was delicious- mango, blueberries and yoghurt with muesli, granola and goji berries... followed by a classic full english. Recommendations for dinner: Chagford Inn- have their own beef menu- excellent food. Thanks to Nicky and Simon- we will be back for sure!

Nick & Simon were the most amazing host's welcoming us into their beautiful home. Our weekend was so relaxing, even the weather was kind to us, so lots of walking was done, which was needed to walk off Nickys fantastic breakfast ! We can't wait to go back. Terry wants to see the new barn doors, hope they fit Nicky !! Best wishes and Merry Christmas to you both. From Terry & Rachel xx

We had an absolutely wonderful stay with Nicky and Simon. They treated us like long lost friends or family, fed us like royalty for breakfast and gave us great advice about what walks to do around the moor. The room was very comfortable, especially the lovely private bathroom with a bathtub for a good soak after a cold day walking on the moors.

Alice! How kind of you. It's so good to hear that you were both happy at Monks. Do hope the drive back to Eindhoven wasn't too exhausting. Wishing you both a particularly Happy New Year x x

Nicky and Simon are fantastic hosts. The whole house was scented with sweet peas, and decorated with dahlias from the beautiful garden, the bedroom lovely and comfortable and the breakfast sumptuous. Thank you.

Nicky and Simon are the most wonderful hosts, they're friendly, warm and have a fantastic home. We didn't want to leave. They are both great breakfast cooks and their full English is perfection as was anything else they made. They ensured we had everything we needed for our comfort and the rooms are lovely and well made up. The sheets and towels are really soft and there's everything you need, including a hairdryer, bathrobes, maps and such. The shower is awesome and has excellent water pressure and is adjustable for the very tall. Chagford also is a special town and has everything you could possibly need for your travel adventures and it's just a mile and a half drive or a beautiful walk across rolling fields. The pretty house, beautiful gardens and great breakfast was so wonderful but what made our stay exceptional were the people. Nicky and Simon are truly great and I highly recommend their rooms. We'll definitely be back.

Thank you for your very kind comments Lee! It was great fun having you with us at Monks - Simon said this morning how much he had enjoyed Anthony's company on their mega walks. So glad that you enjoyed your time at Monks and are hoping to return.

Nicky and Simon have lived in Chagford for years and adore the blissful countryside. Simon is a Mastering Engineer and Nicky has the most beautiful commute in the world - the mile and half walk into Chagford
