The Orange Door bach is a true jewel set in the crown that is Opunake. Opunake is on Surf Highway 45 at the base of Mount Taranaki with world class surfing, fishing, and hiking. Our property sits on the bluff over-looking the ocean and at the end of a quiet cul de sac. This house is our holiday home and we'd love to share it with you. We are a vegetarian house and welcome like-minded guests who want a truly unique place to relax and enjoy the huge ocean views.

The space
Our 3 bdrm home boasts beautiful views of the wild west coast and the new deck is a great place to hang out. Wake up to ocean views from the 2 main bedrooms (both have French doors opening to the deck). The 3rd bedroom has 2 single beds that can be joined together to make a king size bed. Our cosy reading/sun room (off the lounge) is great for chilling out with a book or playing one of the many board games available. The log burning fireplace makes the living room super cosy (as well as the brand new insulation through-out the house). Unlimited fibre WiFi is available. There is no TV. The newly installed bathroom boasts a huge walk in tiled shower. The kitchen is stocked with high quality knives, pots and pans has a new stove/oven and fridge. The dining table comfortably sits 6 with bench seats. We are a meat-free house so we request guests do not cook meat inside. However we do supply a bar-b-q in the garage which you are most welcome to use if you want to cook meat. The house is carpeted throughout so please no shoes. We offer yoga mats, blocks, and foam rollers to all our guests so you can chill out and have a practice.

Opunake, Taranaki, New Zealand

There is no shortage of activities here. The coastal walkway is a stone’s throw from the house which will lead you either to the river for great fishing or several beaches and up and over the headlands with stunning views. Alternatively head into Opunake town which has several restaurants and cafes and a great range of op shops. There is also the classic ‘Everybody’s Theatre’ cinema where you can grab a comfy couch, a glass of wine, cheese board and watch a movie.
If you’re into surfing, then you have definitely come to the right place. Opunake is situated on the surf highway and has some world class breaks.

We are an English/American couple who've lived in NZ for 16 years now and love it here! It is truly our home. We both teach yoga and are into walking, running, surfing, paddle-boarding, reading, cooking and hanging with our dogs. We love the Taranaki area for the outdoor lifestyle and laidback feel and fell in love with Opunake after shifting up from Queenstown. We've got the best of Taranaki as we live in New Plymouth and enjoy our space down here on the coast. We love dogs and have 2. We are vegetarians and super into beautiful vegan cooking. Peggy loves fine wine and Jody prefers his whiskey after a surf and the cold water. We enjoy people and also our own space. Jody is a qualified life coach and Peggy is currently studying to be one also. We both love nature and love the outdoor lifestyle this region has to offer.

Our aim is to make your stay as comfortable as possible. If you need anything, feel free to contact us either by phone, text or email. We live just up the road in New Plymouth. We have a wonderful woman named Adele who lives in the apartment at the other end of the house (she sorts the cleaning so knows all about the house). She says hi to everyone who arrives and is there to help. She also runs the wonderful veggie shop in town on the corner so go say hi and support the local economy.
