Birchgrove cottage is life as it used to be but with the comfort of now. This renovated 1890's gardener's cottage and original laundry comes complete with its own original copper kettle and fully restored cast iron bath. We've tried to keep the feel authentic but also provide you with all you need to fully relax and retreat. We've had a very "soft" opening as it's not perfect yet, which is why it's listed at this very special price.
Travelling with children? Please contact us about extra beds.

The space
With an inside toilet and laundry, the main bathroom, while attached, is outside (i.e. you are undercover as you walk into the adjoining room).

Where you’ll be

Maxwell, Manawatu-Wanganui, New Zealand

Maxwell is a small rural community 20 minutes outside of Whanganui, a city with everything on offer but the big named shopping malls. With great food, wine and boutique shops we love our town and area.

We moved to our beautiful corner of the world just over a year ago and got right into renovating and making our home one to treasure. We purchased the property off a family who had owned and worked the land for four generations and we are blessed to be here. Elizabeth works full time in town and Phil is at home, working the property (aka cleaning up the ivy and dead trees!) along with caring for our incredible kids.

During your stay

We live in the main farmhouse right beside the cottage and are on hand if you need us. The purpose of the cottage is a retreat though so we'll leave you alone unless you have any questions. It is a property we work on so you might hear us around.
