Idyllic Grade 2* listed rural limestone cottage in grounds of a lodge to Burton Hall, close to historic cathedral city of Lincoln. Set in 1.8 acres of mature woodland grounds. Wood-burning stove and seasoned logs included; well equipped kitchen.

The space

This is a tastefully refurbished estate worker's cottage and stores, built of local limestone. It is situated in the grounds of, and completely separate from, Dunster Lodge, which was built in 1868 as a lodge for Burton Hall. All buildings including the cottage are Grade 2* listed.

The cottage is fully equipped with a modern kitchen and appliances (including washer, dishwasher, four ring gas hob, built-under oven and extractor fan), set at one end of the living area. There are plenty of pots and pans, utensils and crockery. Coffee making equipment includes Nespresso machine (with a few capsules!), and Mocha express machines.

There is a drop-leaf table and four folding chairs in addition to two other wooden dining chairs.

The other part of the living area has comfortable seating, television and DVD player and wood-burning stove.

In addition to a comfortable double bedroom (Note: the bed is 4 feet wide), there is a "corridor" bedroom with a single bed.

Modern shower-room with WC and wash basin, heated towel rail and additional wall heater.

Heating is by wood-burning stove (seasoned logs included) and each room has independent thermostatic electric wall heaters. Hot water via immersion heater. No additional charge for electricity.

Guest access

Guests have a completely independent cottage and access to the 1.8 acres of grounds. There are some beehives, visible from the cottage. Ample parking beside cottage, near stables (no horses)

Interaction with guests

We will meet guests at the start of the stay, and may or may not be resident in the main house of Dunster Lodge during the stay.

Other things to note

We will provide a breakfast welcome package, including tea, coffee, milk, bacon, eggs, bread and butter. We will leave a few Nespresso capsules for the machine, and there are also Mocha express machines, a cafetière, and ground coffee. There are basic condiments and olive oil. Our beehives give us the chance to offer complimentary honey to guests! There is a Bose Sound Dock and an DAB/FM radio. Internet access is unfortunately slow - as it is to the whole village - but the wifi works well throughout the cottage!

Unfortunately Wednesday check-in may not be possible, although including Wednesday in the rental is!

Peter was a fantastic host. Really friendly and really helpful! He provided local information and was very clear on how to use all the appliances! The lodge was clean and tidy, and in a beautiful area! I would definitely recommend this lodge to others!

Lovely little cottage that felt very welcoming and homely, which, was perfectly clean and tidy. The grounds were fantastic, the dog had great fun chasing around outside.

A lovely cottage. Only 3 miles from centre of Lincoln but also in the middle of the countryside. So peaceful. Will definitely go there again.

Peter was a great host and the accommodation was perfect for our needs. It had everything we needed all set in beautiful surroundings. The dogs enjoyed being able to explore the garden (we had to keep them away from the bees) and our daughter also loved having some space to run around. Great to have a stable door at the front and enjoy the fresh air whilst keeping the little ones in. We would highly recommend.

A wonderful place to stay, I booked this fantastic cottage for two nights whilst attending my sons graduation , The owner Peter and I kept in contact throughout the booking he then greeted us when we arrived at the property and showed us around the beautiful cottage explaining everything as we went. The setting is stunning and peaceful better then I expected. A kitchen with everything you need including bacon, eggs, bread, butter, tea/coffee etc also delicious honey from the hives in the garden. A cute lounge with wood burner ( which we didn't need to use ..very warm) bathroom with shower , bedroom and single bed area ...their are also wall heaters in each room which were excellent and enough for us. Everywhere was very clean and tidy. We had the best nights sleep because it's so peaceful. Taxi service was excellent taking us into Lincoln and back only about 15 mins drive, the whole area of Burton has no street lights which isn't a problem but just remember a torch though Peter does supply one. I cannot fault this lovely cottage and highly recommend booking it ..we will be returning to Lincoln this year and will definatly be booking with Peter again ..if available ..Thankyou Peter for letting us stay in your wonderful little gem of this cottage.

A beautiful little cottage - peacefully situated in a lovely orchard, with great walks and of course Lincoln very nearby. Peter has thought of everything to make it welcoming and cosy - and the honey from his bees and fruit from the orchard were delicious. Thank you very much for a great weekend break.

I love the outdoors, mountains, skiing - and our beautiful property and its grounds. We are keen hobby beekeepers. Indoors, I am a keen pianist, concert-goer and cook!
