Welcome to Ríaluz, our intimate luxury hideaway beside the ocean with a secluded ten-mile stretch of beach. Nestled within the federally protected biosphere of Ro Lagartos, you will share the land with birds, beautiful seasonal flowers, and a breathtakingly secluded coastline, while high-speed satellite internet will allow you to continue to work and study from the beach as needed. Our off-grid and solar-powered luxury villa sustainably coexists with the environment and the untouched landscape.

The space
Due to the pandemic, we have instituted thorough, disinfecting deep cleans between all reservations. This is a wonderfully secluded location inside of a national park, far from civilization but with all the comforts of home.

Ríaluz is bright and airy, with windows facing the sea and the abundant flora and fauna of the reserve. The space is open, comfortable and connected to the sea, the sky, the stars and the birds. Our villa is perfect for adventuring lovers, naturalists, and families looking for a unique place to explore. The secluded location offers a wonderful opportunity to unplug from our busy lives.

The house is comprised of two buildings, carefully designed to give our guests ample space and privacy. In the main structure is the living room with a fully equipped kitchen and a master suite with a king bed. The living room has two sofas that can be converted into twin beds. Outside, a bridge connects the deck of the main structure with the adjacent one, where the second bedroom suite can be set up with either a king bed or two twin beds. The beach is accessible from all rooms by sandy footpaths leading 65m to the shore. Above the main building is a lounging terrace with an outdoor stargazing bed and a bar. From everywhere in the house, there are spectacular views of the sea.

There are numerous activities in the nearby area that we recommend. Guided nature, fishing and birding tours, paddle boarding, kitesurfing and kayaking, and nearby Mayan ruins with a cenote are all easy to arrange and we provide detailed information to all guests. Over 395 species of birds call the reserve home, one of the highest species densities in the world. The village of Rio Lagartos is lovely to visit, and the fresh fish caught by its residents feed all of Yucatan. Miles of open beach and a warm ocean are magical to explore, and you can wrap up your day by star-gazing at night from the terrace and taking in the brilliantly clear night sky.

Our wonderful caretakers will be on hand 24/7 to welcome you to the beach and assist you with any needs.

Our villa is completely solar powered and is recognized as the most environmentally friendly coastal development in the Yucatan. The villa is deep within the national park, and it is important to keep in mind that you will be sharing the area with mother nature. During your stay you may see dolphins, foxes, eagles, flamingoes, snakes, turtles, butterflies, and many species of exotic birds. Detailed information on the local wildlife is sent to all travelers to ensure a safe and pleasant stay. If you treat the surroundings with respect, Ríaluz is calm sanctuary.

Guest access
The entire house is available for guests, except for my painting studio.

Other things to note
• You will be asked to sign a rental agreement
• Our home is not child proof and is not suitable for toddlers (age 12-36 months).
• Our home has elevated walkways and balconies and is not suitable for elderly or handicapped guests.
• Ana's painting studio on the upper floor of the second building has a separate entrance. If travel schedules coincide, Ana may be at the beach quietly painting here during your visit.

What is travel to the villa like?
Cancun is a 3.5 hour drive from the house, and Merida is 2.5 hours. The drive will take you off the beaten path and into the beautiful countryside of the Yucatán. Rio Lagartos is 40 minutes driving from the house, or a 10 minute boat ride right from the beach. Detailed driving instructions are sent to confirmed travelers.

Are there grocery stores or restaurants nearby?
There is a grocery store on the drive in from the airport which is noted in the directions. There are several restaurants in Rio Lagartos as well. Oil, salt, and other cooking staples are provided.

Is there cell reception at the house?
Yes, with stable 3G (if not 4G) reception.

Is there wifi at the house?
Yes, we have high-speed satellite wifi which runs at 25mbps. We have a monthly quota of 35gb, after which the wifi drops to 10mbps. We also have a second internet network that runs at 10-15mbps and allows larger groups to spread out across the two connections. Satellite internet can be affected by weather so heavy cloud cover or rain may cause speeds to slow.

Is there seaweed on the beach?
Occasionally yes. The tides will bring seaweed to the beach as part of the natural cycle of the Yucatan’s ecosystems, but the beach is generally clean for most of the year. If there is seaweed on the beach during your stay, you can simply wade through it to get to the clear waters, or visit our other nearby beach which is 5 minutes away and faces a different direction. The beach can change drastically from day to day.

Does the house have beach furniture?
Yes, there is a bench with shade on the beach, a portable umbrella, and beach chairs.
