About this listing
Jawi House & Painter is our much-loved modern bed and breakfast homestay in the center of Ubud. We have three private, spotlessly clean, beautifully decorated and newly built rooms on the upper levels of our home (please see our other listings).
This spacious and picturesque room, on level one, has everything you need for comfortable stay. Sunlight filters in through the large windows and trees, and there’s a sizable balcony surrounded by our tropical garden – a good spot for mediation or reading. The Garden Room is beautifully finished and has a king sided bed, ensuite bathroom with bath / shower, a cupboard and sideboard, and a small sitting room space that leads on to the balcony. This room, amongst the trees, has enough floor space for additional bedding or yoga practice.

The price quoted on the calendar is based on one person, per room, per night. If two people, there is a small increase per night.
Here’s a nice blog post about us:
"...Then when you are back in Bali and hit Ubud, you should stay with Jawi House and Painter. You get a degree of loveliness which is hilariously superior to the other places along Monkey Forest Road, a few of whom were offering me discount rates of $110 US for tattered old rooms in their oversized resorts. I know you can get accommodation much cheaper than this (we stayed in another place for $12/night on our last trip) but for what you get, this place was lovely– air con and fan, bath, a sitting area, a welcome drink (I love Indonesian welcome drinks, yummy), free wireless, and brekky. And down a quiet laneway off the main drag. We were sorry to stay only one night, because they were so awesome, and we had that experience that you have pretty regularly in Indonesia, when someone is so delightful and wonderful to you and you wish you could just apologise directly for not being able to personally sustain their excellent business model, which probably goes largely unappreciated because they don’t have a very big sign, nor an advertising budget. And please (I say in imaginary monologue) don’t stop asking people if they were just ‘walking walking’ a la the way one would say ‘jalan jalan’ in Bahasa, because that is really quite adorable and somehow more accurate in tone to describe the kind of meandering one does in Ubud, than the singular version. So keep it up Jawi House and Painter."

Our home is located in the heart of Ubud on Monkey Forest Road (Jl. Wenara Wana). It’s tucked away down a laneway behind the street front. Access is via our courtyard with a staircase up to level one or two. Your room has it’s own private, lockable door and you can come go as you please.
Interaction with guests
We can have as little or as much interaction as you like. You can call or sms me anytime you need something. I am usually at home or in the area so I’m close by to give you advice or help with anything you need. I also enjoy sharing our local culture and customs if you’re interested in learning more about the Balinese life.
We’re conveniently situated right near restaurants, bars, cafes, spas, and shops but positioned back from the street amongst Balinese homes. There’s a laundry a few minutes away, convenience stores, ATMs and a couple of resorts on the street that allow you to access their pools for a small fee. The Royal Palace and Ubud Market is a short walk up the street, and The Monkey Forest and Hubud Co-working space is a few minutes down the street. We are also walking distance to Yoga Barn and other yoga studios.
Ubud is an excellent central base from which to explore Bali. It is about a one hour drive from Kuta, depending on the traffic and the Ngurah Rai International Airport in Denpasar is a one and a half hour drive away. We can organise airport transfers for you.
Most of central Ubud is within walking distance but hiring scooter is a cheap and easy way to get around. There are also plenty of taxis you can pick up on the street to get you around town for about IDR. For longer distances or day tours, my nephew (also called Putu) is an excellent driver and tour guide . You can see his reviews on TripAdvisor.
