My parents, sister and I are on a trip together after more than 30 years and we couldn't have asked for more than 'The Brye at Limeslake Farm'. The area is serene and scenic, and the cottage is very cosy and fairly well stocked to cater for unprepared travelers. Beds were comfy, toilets were clean and kitchen was well equipped. Do take Wendy's advise on how to get here. For unseasoned country lane drivers like myself, it was quite an experience driving along these narrow lanes and into Exmoor. Perfect stay and a wonderful host!!!

We spent 3 nights at the Byre for a short family vacation in Exmoor. The cottage was perfect for our family of four, warm and cozy, fully equipped kitchen for cooking, and with enough space to lounge around and relax too. Staying at the farm with really friendly animals was really lovely, and we spent some time playing with the dog, and hanging out with the cats, chickens, sheep, goats, ponies... truly awesome. The Byre was a 40 min drive to Lynton and 45 min drive to Dunster, so visiting the Exmoor national park was easy. And with a Sainsbury just ten min away in South Molton, we easily whipped up dinner every day. Thanks Wendy for the wonderful stay, and we miss Tex the sheepdog already!

Welcoming hosts and a comfortable cottage in a beautiful setting. Our 1 year old enjoyed the books and toy farm animals and the real farm animals.

We had a lovely time staying at The Bryer. The views from the cottage are fantastic and our kids loved visiting the goats and playing with Tex the sheep dog who was happy to come on walks with us around the farm. Great zip wire in the woods which the kids also loved. Wendy and Ged are great hosts! We had an unfortunate accident in our car (written off) and they were very kind and helped in every way they could, Wendy went to the shops and kindly gave us a bag of groceries as we had no transport. The house is lovely and cosy with everything we needed and very comfortable beds. Would love to come and stay again one day. Highly recommended! :)

Having trawled through over 50 adverts, The Byre really stood out to me, when looking for a break in the countryside from the city. And, in short it completely exceeded expectations - I cannot recommend staying here enough. Wendy and her family made us feel incredibly welcome, checking in was smooth and the directions perfect. The cottage is in a lovely condition and had everything we needed - including spare wellies! There is so much to do in the surrounding areas, whether you want to stay close to home or venture further afield to the beach this cosy cottage is exactly what you want to come home to after a day exploring. We shall most definitely be back!

What a lovely place! So relaxing and beautiful location, my family and I really enjoyed our stay and would love to return very soon for longer. My children loved being able to say hi to the animals and get up close to them, they especially loved Tex the dog and the baby goat! Great communication and directions from Wendie also, many thanks for being such a great host

Interaction with guests

On our smallholding we have children, horses, ponies, goats, chickens, cats and a dog. You are welcome to visit the animals if you wish. Or you can stay completely separate from us and enjoy the tranquility of your own space.

About Wendy

I live at the farm with my partner and 3 children. I have worked as an academic all my life and am now spending more and more time smallholding. I work part time now and mostly focus on getting the smallholding up and running and looking after the animals. Ged, my partner works in film or is here doing local stuff. The children make the most of every minute living here and we feel very lucky. We're from London originally but have lived in Devon 7 years or so.

Its great having The Byre. All the people who have passed through so far have been absolutely lovely, bringing us different views on the world and stories of all sorts that we wouldn't otherwise hear. Its nice for us to share this beautiful place.
