Escape the city and getaway to the Rockies.

Perched at 11,243 feet in the beautiful Valley of the Sun, our Park County 2 BR mountain home is family and pet friendly, has a welcoming open floor plan with walls of windows, toasty woodstove, vaulted ceilings and a large deck with a BBQ.

Enjoy everything Colorado outdoors have to offer and come back to a secluded mountain cabin, while having all modern amenities at hand. The cabin is tucked away, yet close to tons of activities!

The space
An acre retreat with lots of privacy & trees, and plenty of parking for families, couples, or friends. The two bedrooms are warm and inviting and there is plenty of closet space, and ***kids will enjoy the twin bunk beds in the larger room. The bathroom has washer and dryer, so you can travel light. Large living room for you to curl up on the sofa by the floor-to-ceiling windows, throw some logs in the wood-burning stove, have a family game night with provided board games and puzzles, or kick back and raid the DVDs (there is no cable). Enjoy your meals prepared in the fully equipped kitchen that has ample counter space to make a feast. In addition, the kitchen is stocked with cookware, bakeware, dishes, glasses, utensils, toaster, electric kettle, microwave, both drip and espresso machines, as well as an oven and dishwasher. The large dining table seats 6, plus there are 3 small barstools at the breakfast bar.

Our cabin comes fully stocked with the necessities such as toilet paper, tissues, paper towels, hand soap, dish soap and detergents (laundry and dishwasher). Please make sure to bring your own toiletries, which are not provided.

The cabin is accessible year-round by a county maintained road, the last 3 miles of which are unpaved. In the winter months snow can start out of nowhere and pile on FAST, so during this time you would need a proper 4WD or AWD car. Oct-April, snow tires or chains are highly recommended on AWD, as no one wants to spend the beginning of their vacation waiting for the tow truck. The reality of staying and visiting the Colorado Mountains is that many recreational areas are only accessible by dirt roads, so higher clearance vehicle, while not necessary, is recommended year-round.

The cabin sits at 11,243 feet and in the winter, Valley of the Sun averages 146 inches of snow. A county plow comes through the street whenever there is more than 4 inches of snow and our driveway is plowed within 24-48 hours of snowfall over 4 inches as well, but the path to the cabin and the deck may need some shoveling. There are shovels and a snow blower available, if needed.

Cell phone reception in the mountains can be 4G LTE on some networks, while limited on others. Free WiFi is available via satellite internet service for light browsing and email only. NO VIDEO STREAMING, as this will quickly deplete available data, for all guests. For this reason, if you are visiting with a child/teen who has access to mobile devices, please monitor their usage. As we are in the mountains, be aware that the internet can be finicky, so please plan accordingly by downloading offline maps and movies ahead of time.

The large deck has a gas grill and all the tools for you to use to make a great BBQ, or relax with your favorite beverage and take in the views on the Adirondack chairs. Kids will be happy playing on the playset or handmade cornhole, giant Jenga, ring toss and Tic-Tac-Toe, while pets will be safe on the gated patio. We adore our cabin and hope you will too!
Whether you come here for a weekend getaway or family vacation, we are positive you will have a wonderful time!

Pet fees:
We welcome well behaved and potty-trained dogs (sorry no cats)! We have a limit of 2 dogs per reservation, and PETS MUST BE ANNOUNCED AND APPROVED IN ADVANCE. If you choose to bring a dog, we charge an additional $50 pet fee (per stay) that must be payed within 72 hours of making the reservation. If you do not inform us you are bringing a dog with you and pay the pet fee PRIOR TO ARRIVAL, we will charge an additional $50 fee on top of the pet fee.
We understand wanting to treat your dogs like family, however, for the courtesy of our other guests, THE DOGS ARE NOT ALLOWED ON THE FURNITURE OR IN THE BEDROOMS. If there is evidence this rule was not followed, there will be extra “deep cleaning fee” of $100 charged to you on top of the pet fee. Our goal is to provide a spotless home to all our guests.
PETS ARE NOT ALLOWED TO BE LEFT ALONE IN THE CABIN (unless in a kennel), and must be on a leash and under supervision when outside (you can have them hang out on the patio, just close the gate to keep them safely in). PLEASE CLEAN UP AFTER YOUR PETS, besides the fact no one want to come to a yard covered in poop, dog excrement attracts wildlife.

*** If you are traveling with little ones, while not baby proofed, the cabin has most anything you might need: a pack ‘n play, a crib mattress, bedding, plastic dishes and utensils, a highchair (with infant insert, rated up to 50lbs), inflatable changing pad and baby tub. All the baby items (besides dishes) can be found in the master bedroom closet.

Where you’ll be

Fairplay, Colorado, United States

The Mosquito Mountain Range is the backdrop to Valley of the Sun and provides a backyard for endless outdoor adventures. U.S. Forest Service Office at the intersection of Hwy 285 and Hwy 9 in Fairplay, has free maps of trail heads for hiking and other information.

In the summer you can go Hiking, Fishing, Mountain biking, Horseback riding, ATVing, engage in Historical exploration: the area is full of mining and railway history, Kayaking, White water rafting, Wildlife observation or take Balloon rides.

In the winter you also have world-class Skiing/Snowboarding, Ice climbing and Cross-country skiing. Snowshoeing and Snowmobiling provide access to pristine backcountry wilderness. 5 world-class ski resorts are nearby: only 22 miles to Breckenridge, 40 miles to either Keystone or Copper Mountain, 42 miles to Arapahoe Basin, 47 miles to Loveland ski, and 58 miles to Vail.

Fairplay is also host to several fun events in the summer including the legendary Burro Days Race, a free summer concert series, and the unique South Park Arts Celebration. When not doing physical activities, visit South Park City (Old West museum town), take a Scenic Drive over Boreas Pass, or cross the Continental Divide at the Hoosier Pass on your way to Breckenridge. If you own a high-clearance 4×4 vehicle, take a drive over Mosquito Pass: a rugged route over to Leadville (please only attempt this if you have an appropriate car and are an experienced driver).

If you are lucky to be here in September-October, join the other leaf-peeping visitors. Drive with compassion and soak in the beauty. There is nothing like driving through a golden yellow tunnel of aspen on a dirt road on a mountain that is glowing with fall wonder.

Reminder, this home is at an elevation of 11,243 feet. The amount of oxygen here is much lower compared to sea level (about 66%). Most people can feel the effects of altitude sickness and if you are coming from much lower elevation, give your body time to adjust.

Recently moved to the beautiful Colorado where we enjoy spending time with friends, play board games, hike, laugh, and build things. One part artist, one part scientist. We love exploring, trying new foods and meeting new people.
