Charming lakeside getaway with west facing windows, glitters with the glow of sunsets in every season. Peaceful secluded retreat on Lake Victoria, at the southern end of the chain, provides access to all the lakes without all the traffic. Rustic with a touch of elegance, The Jewel Box offers cozy furnishings, a sparkling, well equipped kitchen, gas fireplace and a large, private patio. With it’s own separate entrance, the guest suite occupies the lower level of our walk-out lake home.

The space
The central room of the cabin is lined with windows providing a beautiful, panoramic lake view. The backyard offers outdoor seating and dining space with an expansive yard that slopes down to the lakeshore. We have four kayaks available for guest use (2 sit-in, 2 sit-on). There is good wifi throughout the space. The bedrooms and the living room have TV’s with Roku, Netflix, Hulu and DVD players for indoor entertainment. In the library/media room, across the hall from the master bedroom, you’ll find a substantial collection of dvd movies, games, puzzles and books, as well as a spare twin bed and an extra TV.

Our property is situated in a somewhat secluded area, down a small unpaved road with no thru traffic entering from the other end. The house sits on an oversized lot, and it has a woodsy, unspoiled feel to it. It’s truly a peaceful spot for a relaxing retreat.

I'm an active person who enjoys good conversation. Although my educational background is in art and film, I’ve spent many years in the hospitality industry, owning and operating a small B&B in a Minnesota college town for nearly 20 years. Now I have migrated a bit north to the central part of the state to host a vacation getaway on the chain of lakes in Alexandria. I try to stay mentally and physically healthy; practice yoga, eat good food, drink red wine and study Romance languages. I’m loving the lake life and look forward to welcoming guests into our lovely little Jewel Box.

During your stay

My partner David and I reside on the upper level of the house. Our laundry/utility room is accessed downstairs through a separate door, so you may encounter us should we need to enter that space. We will also utilize the dock for our own boating excursions, but we can reach it without crossing through the outdoor guest area. So… although we are around should you need us or wish to socialize, we can also remain essentially unseen. We do also have three indoor cats. Although they have no direct access to the guest space, it should be noted that the house is heated and cooled by a vent system so those with allergies could be affected.
