Mid-century Mountain Lakehouse is true to its name. A newly built mid-century style retreat sited to showcase stunning views of Taranaki Maunga and our landscaped gardens and lake. If you love mid-century style and vintage design, you'll be in retro-heaven discovering what's here for you to use and enjoy. We have curated a collection of vintage pieces that evoke Kiwi holidays of yesteryear and added modern luxuries. The Lakehouse is self-contained and private, perfect for a relaxing getaway.

The space
Boutique accommodation for adults, the Lakehouse has a queen bed, plenty of storage for your things in the bedroom area and a fold-out double sofa/daybed in the lounge for an extra guest. The bedroom and living area are open plan with a low dividing wall.

The kitchen has a full-size fridge, gas hob, microwave, dishwasher, toaster, kettle and electric frypan. We provide a range of teas, a milk frother and an espresso machine for leisurely morning coffees, so bring your favourite beans!

There is no TV, but the free wi-fi is reliable and fast enough to stream video to your devices. There is excellent 4G phone coverage, as there is a phone tower at the back of the property.

Where you’ll be

Rahotu, Taranaki, New Zealand

Coastal Taranaki is beautiful, with beaches, forests, mountain creeks and rivers to explore. It’s called the Surf Coast for a reason. And it’s one of those rare places in the world where when the conditions are right you can surf in the morning and ski in the afternoon!

History buffs will enjoy the many pa sites, memorials, old dairy factories and abandoned houses you will come across driving around. There are excellent museums in Hawera, Patea and New Plymouth and at the replica Cape Egmont Lighthouse that narrate Taranaki’s Maori and pakeha history.

We are about a kilometre from the head of the Kahui Track, which leads up to Kahui Hut and joins the Round the Mountain Circuit. Let us know if you are planning a long walk - depending on our other commitments we may be able to pick you up from the end of a one-way trek and bring you home.

Together with my partner I live on a beautiful lifestyle block in coastal Taranaki. We bought this property in 2017 and have been sprucing it up and developing the lakehouse ever since. Neither of us ever dreamed that we would end up as custodians of such a beautiful place. We share:
• a love of the earth: its plants, animals, rocks and waters
• respect for tangata whenua: their history, their culture, their mana and their futures
• a strong sense of social justice and fair play
• love for the quirky little furry, feathered and woolly beings that live with us and return our love and care many times over.
We love welcoming guests to our special property.
