The space

Our home is a contempary barn conversion in the rural fringes of the popular Transition Town of Totnes and very close to Dartmoor National Park. This is a 3 bedroom house which has been created by the conversion of stone farm buildings. The property has a number of character features including ceiling beams, oak flooring, deep window sills and log burning stove. There is a well equipped kitchen and spacious open plan living room and dining room downstairs. Upstairs there is a large bathroom including a bath and shower, and a smaller cloakroom/bathroom downstairs. The garden catches the afternoon sun and there is garden furniture for a mellow evening times. There is free wifi internet.

The area is unique because it combines the proximity of Totnes with easy access to areas of outstanding beauty. It is ideally situated between some wonderful beaches on the south coast only 13 miles away and 7 miles from Dartmoor National Park. Totnes is a buzzing market town with music nights, many restaurants and open minded and alternative people. There is a popular food market once a month and a weekly market on Fridays and Saturday selling everything and anything! You can drive to Totnes in under 5 minutes, cycle to the high street in 5-10 minutes, or walk in half an hour along the back lanes.

It's a very quiet area with only a few houses nearby, and you can often wake up to the sounds of the tweeting birds and lambs bleating in the morning. There are some beautiful walks in the hills around the house and a lot to do in the area including good restaurants, surfing, canoeing (we can put you in touch with a great instructor), fishing, and some yoga and massage if you fancy spoiling yourself in the many alternative therapy clinics in Totnes. There are some good bike rides through the hills and by the RIver Dart that can take you through to Sharpham vineyard and beyond with some gorgeous pubs along the way. There is easy train access to the rest of the country and we are close to Plymouth and Exeter and a direct 3 hour train ride from London Paddington.

This house would also be perfect for families with children. We have a stair gate that can be put up and there are many child friendly activities nearby such as Pennywell Farm, the Butterfly Sanctuary and the South Devon Steam Railway.

Wonderful place for a quiet weekend away from London. Totnes is a wonderful town and the house is lovely. If arriving via train you’ll need to take a taxi to the house and to get around the area, which we did. You can also walk into town though it is a proper hike. Highly recomm…
