Private and luxurious, 500m to the Three Sisters, minutes to cafes, galleries & bush walks.
Welcome to the private, spacious apartment which is part of my large, heritage-listed Katoomba home.
We are in the heart of Katoomba's tourist area but in a very tranquil setting with fountains, ponds and water features and a beautiful frog pond.
*10 minutes walk to Echo Point, the Three Sisters and major bush walks , 15 minutes to the village centre and 20 minutes walk from the station.
* Extremely popular and highly rated restaurant (Pins, #2 on Trip Advisor) directly opposite.
The apartment consists of:
*Your own private entrance with sunny porch and garden terrace.
*Spacious designer bedroom with comfy brass DOUBLE bed (memory foam mattress).
*Walk in ensuite 'wet room' with monsoon shower.
*Private deck and courtyard with comfy chairs and barbecue.
*Large private living room with bar fridge, microwave, tea and coffee, kettle, 40" screen, Netflix, Apple TV and popcorn for serious movie nights. (Please note: no free-to-air-TV and no other cooking facilities.)
*Open fireplace (for atmosphere - decorative only) and central heating.
*Two free bikes, one hybrid, one town bike. Just ask.
The apartment is completely private with a solid, lockable door and walls between it and the back of the house. I am at the back of the house should you need anything. (Please note the apartment is not a separate building, it is attached to my house - you have the whole front section.)
Before booking please read the house rules and note that LUSH is for adults over 18 only. It is not suitable for children.
Oi, Casper and I may be able to accommodate your well-behaved, adult dog by arrangement. Just enquire before booking.
See you soon! Jilea, Oi and Casper
Your private area is a spacious apartment in the front part of my house. It adjoins the house but is completely separate and private from the rest of the house. I live at the back with my two lovely lurchers, Oi and Casper. If you wish to use the rest of the house you are welcome to share a glass of wine with me and will find a wrap around back deck and the garden with large water lily pond - frogs included.
Interaction with guests
I live here and I like to have friendly conversation over a glass of wine with my guests. However I completely respect my guests' privacy and if you don't wish to chat, just a friendly hello will do.
Other things to note
Two lovely, large lurchers live here. You will only see them if you want to meet them as they live with me in the other section of the house.
If you do wish to meet them, please be assured that Oi and Casper, although enthusiastic, are very friendly and gentle and will not hurt you.
Here you will find everything you need to know to make things run smoothly during your stay. There is a secret phrase at the end of the house rules. Please text or email it back so I know you have read them.
Firstly, LUSH on Lurline is a private apartment but it is part of my home, separated by a solid, lockable door and a wall. You have your own entrance and there is complete privacy between the two sections. However, it is a hosted property and I live at the back of the house. So no need to ask how you pick up the keys! You will see me on check in and I'm here if you need anything. Other than that you may occasionally hear a small amount of noise from the kitchen at dinner time.
Please also note the following: the bed is a DOUBLE bed, not queen or king sized.
There is no toaster or kitchen facilities other than those specified in the listing, ie: kettle, fridge, tea, coffee, microwave oven & bbq from October to April. You may of course borrow my toaster if you need one.
In winter the heating goes off around 10pm. After that there are several other options to keep you warm. Heated throws, electric heater, electric blankets etc.
House rules. Here are the things that are not cool:
* Leaving the front door open when you go out and not bolting it when you come in. (If you know you are checking out early, ask me where to leave the key after you lock the door.)
* Leaving lights on when you are not in the room. The house is solar powered and if you waste electricity by leaving on lights and the bathroom fan, there will not be any hot water for the morning.
* Smoking or taking drugs anywhere on the property including the grounds.
* Not cleaning the barbecue (in which case a $50 barbecue-cleaning fee applies). BBQ months October to April only.
* Eating or drinking in the bedroom. Water is fine of course.
* Texting me before 8am unless it's really, really important.
What is cool? Everything else! Now, anyone can say they've read the house rules, but I will know you have if you text or email me: "Who put the Oi in very annoying dog?"
PS If you are bringing your dog, this must be pre-arranged. It must be an adult, not a puppy. You need to bring proof of vaccination and flea/tick treatment, its bed and your dog must have had a bath in the past 24 hours. No smelly dogs allowed!
I've had the world come to my door through Airbnb! Each guest just makes me want to do more of this. I love the friends I've made, the stories we've shared about the places we've been. I love the meals we've had together, the insights into each others' lives and experiences. I've heard about the whirling dervishes in India, the midnight sun in Alaska, the music festival in Rajasthan and the min min lights in remote Australia. I've had people stay who just needed space, young lovers looking forward to their future and people in inspiring, respectful 30 year relationships. Musicians, poets, ship wreck divers, Hollywood actors, airline pilots, marathon runners .... each time hear that little "harp" sound on my phone I get a thrill of anticipation about who it is who might be wanting to come and stay with me!
So about me: I am in my 50s, a writer, journalist, editor, designer and gardener! I love my friends, partying, having a great time whether it's work or play and welcoming people into my home. I love to cook, I LOVE to make people happy and relaxed!
I also feel passionately that this country is big enough to accommodate anyone seeking shelter or asylum.
My other passion is for the native Australian environment and I try to live as sustainably as possible without sacrificing all the things I love in life. The garden at LUSH is designed to attract native wildlife, including frogs, possums and native birds. It's visited by those raucous vandals, the sulphur crested cockatoos, laughing kookaburras, king parrots and wattle birds. I also have a big, boofy, gentle, friendly dog called .... "Oi!" who I adore!
