A riverside Scandanavian 'hus' with ensuite facilities nestling in the grounds of a private house, Heron Cottage. Just walk from the garden to footpaths leading through the surrounding woodland and up onto the open moor or just relax by the river.

The space

The garden room is a triple glazed Scandinavian hus. It's a warm, bright space with large windows looking across the river to the woods. Private and quiet, it's the ideal place to unwind, take a walk in any direction or just enjoy sitting by the river to read a book or paddle your feet.

Dartmoor is still an easy drive to the south Devon coasts and we are superbly placed to explore the West Country. We are also right on the "Two Moors Way" so we are a perfectly situated for those who love to walk!

We provide tea and coffee making facilities and there is a radio with a docking station as well as WiFi but no mobile signal which could be considered a plus if your trying to get away from it all.

The garden room has a large feather cushion sofa, ideal for reading or taking a nap and a table should you feel compelled to work.

The bed is a very comfortable super king size and can also be split in 2 making two generous singles beds if you prefer. There is room for a cot or childs bed, if you would like me to provide a futon and bedding please let me know in advance, there will be a small additional charge.

The bathroom is en-suite and has a shower, sink and toilet. All towels and toiletries are provided.

The garden room is self contained but please do let us know if we can help with anything, we want you to enjoy your stay with us and see the best of Dartmoor.

Guest access

You have access through Heron Cottage garden and please feel free to enjoy the lower garden and river as your own space.

Breakfast can be taken in the cottage but if the weather is fine you can enjoy a delicious home-cooked breakfast in the garden. Please get in touch for more details.

Interaction with guests

I work part time but will make myself available to answer any questions you may have. If you are staying more than a couple of nights and need to use an iron, hairdryer or a washing machine I can make these available to you.

Murray or I will be around to make breakfast for you and offer advice on where to go and what to do. There are plenty of guides available in the garden room as well as books for you to borrow.

Other things to note

We have a very friendly border terrier, Treacle, who gets on with everyone including other dogs.

If you bring your dog I would request that you bring their bed or basket, avoid allowing them on the bed or sofa and clear up after them. Sorry, any damage will need to be paid for.

The room is not set up for self catering but we can recommend some excellent places to eat out.

Murray and Issy have a lovely, clean, quiet room at the bottom of their garden. They serve a delicious breakfast in the house and were really helpful with tips for local walks and restaurants. Highly recommended!

This is a superb place to stay, the room is beautifully furnished and spotlessly clean, and feels wonderfully secluded in the garden. Izzy and Murray were perfect hosts, friendly and welcoming with lots of local information. Breakfast was delicious. The location is great for walking on the moor. We would highly recommend a stay here.

Our stay at this beautiful location was everything we were looking for - quiet, well presented, comfortable and picturesque. Isabel was the perfect host, very friendly, warm and welcoming, giving us great guidance to enable us to find this secluded spot near Widecombe in the Moor easily. The Scandinavian hus is tucked away at the end of the very pretty and well kept garden, offering the warmth of the cottage home with the seclusion of a separate space to have a quiet and uninterrupted break. Even with consistent rain we had a fantastic weekend, with wifi to keep us entertained (with our own laptop) and we loved watching the blue tits and squirrels at the bird feeder in the garden from the large windows. If only the sun had allowed us to have a cup of tea at the table provided by the stream outside the hus! Inside you will find a giant comfy bed, sofa and good en suite facilities, all supremely clean. Tea and coffee facilities were also on hand with fresh milk each day from the house, and toiletries and towels provided. A real getaway and many great areas of the Moor accessible - Isabel gave us great recommendations for walks, provided maps and gave local info on the local towns and places to eat. Breakfast was a real highlight each day - a lovely home-cooked breakfast, fruit salad, range of coffee and juice kept us filled up all day, all presented with attention to detail and nothing was too much trouble. We loved our stay and would definitely return to enjoy more of the Moor that we love.

We had a perfect and fantastic stay at isabels place. The room was so lovely and the garden a dream. It was so hard to leave after 2 nights. We had good weather as well and enjoyed the garden very much. Mina our dog loved sleeping in the garden and was so happy to enjoy the peaceful and calm area. The breakfast was absolutely delicious and made with love in isabels house. We did a great circular walk -recommended by isabel (widecombe in the moor, hookney tor and back over the bonehill rocks). It was a lomg walk but the view is great and our dog was very happy. At least the bed was the best bed we ever had in holidays. A kingsize bed with perfect pillows and duvet. I slept like i heaven! Thanks for all

This is a gorgeous room next to a running stream. I was made extremely welcome and Issie and Murray both made me feel very much at home. Their place is in the heart of Dartmoor, from where you can take many long walks - and do not have to go back into the car once arrived. Treacle is a lovely addition and also makes you feel very welcome. If you are looking for a walking or touring holiday - this is a great stay to really get the feel of living in Dartmoor!Would definitely hope to return one day.

lovely location and kind host. It certainly is a "magical" spot! Lovely retreat from the chaotic world! Thank you very much for looking after us so well. Our dogs also go on well together, Edgar made a nice friend. I enjoyed a full English breakfast, in your beautiful home. Thank you again.

We are both open and outgoing, Murray and I have travelled extensively for work and pleasure and decided to settle in this beautiful and unspoilt quiet corner of Devon.
We really love where we live, enjoy sharing it with friends and family and are happy to help people make the most of their stay. We love long walks, good food made with fresh local produce.
