Last minute reservations OK! Yearning for some grounding in nature, stargazing and hiking? Mystic Canyon Tipi is the perfect relaxing getaway! We are far enough away from the city to be peaceful, but minutes from popular San Diego destinations. Come rest & rejuvenate your soul at your home away from home!

The space
Awesome tipi with amazing energy in the private garden of a rural Harbison Canyon pueblo style home, East San Diego County. Harbison Canyon is located at the east side of El Cajon, almost to Alpine. Come enjoy the countryside, where you can actually see the stars at night! You will hear roosters crowing in the morning, owls calling to each other at night and our local coyotes who can be heard "yipping" to each other. You will also hear road noise. (Earplugs are provided.) .

Our home is eclectic, country, relaxed and homey. We have chickens that freely roam the property and give us fresh eggs daily that are for sale. Cook the eggs how you like them on our outdoor guest kitchen! Our property has a wild, natural, laid back feeling. If you are looking for a sterile, manicured, pristine hotel environment, respectfully, this may not be the place for you! If you like roosters crowing, coyotes howling, stars shining, unique decor and a positive energy vibe, then you will love our place!

Our lovable lab/mastiff Reese and cat Aria also live here and love to greet our guests.

We have multiple listings with Airbnb, so if you need to accommodate more people,or want other options, please check out our other listings: Mystic Canyon Friends and Family, Mystic Canyon Cowboy Room, Mystic Canyon Cozy Room, Mystic Canyon Gnome Room, Mystic Canyon Retro Pop-up Trailer and Mystic Canyon Bunkhouse. All of these listings can be accessed by clicking on our photo, which takes you to our profile page and scrolling to the bottom of that page.

We are conveniently located just 30 minutes from downtown San Diego and popular tourist attractions like Comic-Con, Balboa Park, the beautiful beaches and the world famous San Diego Zoo. 35 minutes east you will find beautiful Mount Laguna, Cuyamaca Rancho State Park, Pacific Crest Trail access and the town of Julian. About an hour east brings you to the desert, where natural beauty and recreation abound. 13 miles away, Viejas Casino boasts a beautiful outlet center. 4 miles away, Sycuan has a casino with entertainment and the golf resort of Singing Hills. Come enjoy the slower pace of the San Diego backcountry.

Our Tipi sits on top of a wooden deck and we should note that the main photo here was embellished upon by the photographer, a dear friend of ours who used the photo in a calendar she made. We recently replaced the outer cover with a new one that has a pictograph painting of dancing horses on it. The tipi is furnished with a double futon bed and a table with two chairs.

There is a heater and a fan to help make the temperature more comfortable if necessary, but keep in mind that a tipi, like a tent, will mirror outside temperatures. While you won't feel wind or rain (ok maybe a couple of drops coming through the pole hole), you will feel temperature extremes. If it's hot outside, it will be hot inside especially during the middle of the day. If it's cold outside, it will be cold inside, especially at night. We do have very warm bedding including an electric blanket, so once in bed, you will be plenty toasty! We suggest you plan your stay accordingly. If you visit during warmer weather, plan an activity during the middle of the day, such as exploring, hiking or shopping. Come back when it's a little cooler, or you can play board games or just hang out in our air conditioned living room. There are also plenty of shady spots in our garden to relax and read a book. In colder weather, remember to pack your warmest jammies. We will do what we can to make you more comfortable, but we cannot control the weather!

We have electrical to the tipi and there is a fan, heater, electric blanket, lamp, and wifi. The Tipi is located about 30 ft the main house, where a Campers kitchen, bathroom facilities and showers are available off the back patio. You are also welcome to sit in our living room, which is a comfy place to read a book, use your computer, or just enjoy a glass of wine or cup of tea in front of the fireplace.

We offer you with bottled water, coffee or tea, fresh eggs, oatmeal and muffins in the morning, on the outdoor kitchen on our back patio.

If you are a hiker and need a guide, Randy is an experienced Pacific Crest Trail hiker, who will be happy to assist with drop-off and pick-up in the local mountains, or whatever your hiking/backpacking needs are. Bikers of all kinds, frequently go by on Harbison Canyon Road, which is part of a larger biking loop.

So, hike, bike or drive yourself to our little haven and say goodbye to the hustle and bustle!

Guest access
Guests have access to a downstairs powder room. Our Campers full bathroom is on the back patio. There is a Keurig coffee maker in the entryway of the house, which we supply with coffee and condiments. There is also a tea kettle and an assortment of teas available for our guests in the outdoor kitchen on the back patio. Our downstairs living room is a comfortable spot to relax, socialize, read a book or play some board games in a more temperature controlled environment!

We have recently set up a Camper's Kitchen on the back patio. There is a two burner camp stove, microwave, toaster, coffee maker, barbecue and sink.

Other things to note
This being a more rural area, residents here do have animals and there is wildlife in our canyon. You will probably be awakened by roosters crowing, dogs barking or vehicular traffic hum from the main road. At night, you may hear coyotes and owls. Most people enjoy these "nature" sounds, but if you don't, we provide disposable ear plugs! As with the temperature, the tipi walls do not insulate against noise!

Verizon wireless service is spotty.

We allow well behaved dogs with a $25 cleaning fee, payable upon check-in. We ask that you keep your pet leashed and clean up after them!

We are a married couple who have lived in the same spot for over 30 years. Randy is a handyman/painter and Barbara is a Holistic Health Practitioner and massage therapist. We rebuilt our pueblo-style home in 2005. In 2010 we added an 18' (diameter) tipi. After discovering Airbnb and successfully hosting in the tipi, we added our three spare bedrooms, our retro Pop-up trailer and converted an out building into a Bunkhouse where two twin beds are listed separately, dorm or hostel style for a very low price. Our most recent additions are a smaller, 12' tipi, our Mater Bedroom and our Friends & Family grouping of the three bedrooms which can sleep up to 6 people ! Animal lovers enjoy our friendly mastiff/lab mix, Reese and our tabby cat, Aria. Outside our free ranging chickens can be observed through a fence....and sometimes having escaped...roaming the garden! We have found a special niche that we truly enjoy: hosting! We love meeting new people and making new friends. People love where we live, they feel safe here and find they can afford to travel more when the lodging prices are reasonable. Scroll to the bottom of this page for easy access to all our listings. We love to travel, go hikiing, see movies, read good books, listen to music and try to eat healthy food. We enjoy a more relaxed atmosphere at home and when travelling.
