The space

This is the perfect secluded getaway for romance or tranquil solitude. The Blue Moon Suite is located an hour north of San Francisco and 20 minutes from Santa Rosa in the western Sonoma County redwoods and Wine Country.

The Blue Moon Suite (approx. 360 sq. ft.) guest studio has a 10' ceiling, is heavily insulated so it stays cool in the summer, and has thermostatically controlled forced air heat when desired. The space features a comfortable sitting area/bedroom with king size bed and nine drawer dresser, kitchenette with table for two, private bath with shower, king-sized bed (linens and towels provided), loveseat, desk and outdoor seating with fire chiminea and Weber charcoal BBQ. Space is ideal for 1-2 people, but can accommodate a third person on a stow-away single bed (additional $25/night). Well-mannered dogs are possible.

Entertainment options include DVD/CD player, flat screen TV monitor and a small selection of movies and music. Cable TV and in room phone are not available. The kitchenette is equipped for short stays and contains a sink, small fridge, 2-burner stove, convection toaster oven, microwave, toaster, coffeemaker, electric and stove-top teapots (ground coffee and tea supplied), pots & pans, dishes, glasses, cups, flatware and some serving & cooking utensils. The Weber BBQ is located just outside the room. Additional equipment may be available at the main house.

The Blue Moon Suite is located on a 7-acre country estate and vintage apple orchard surrounded by a forest of redwoods, pines and firs. Stroll or bicycle on the surrounding quiet country roads and hiking paths. Relax in the stillness of nature with a glass of wine, local brew, picnic or book. Guests are invited to pick organic apples, blackberries, Asian pears and citrus seasonally available on the property. In the evenings, toast marshmallows on your own outdoor fire. On a clear evening, the stargazing is incredible!

Just a 5-minute drive west of downtown Sebastopol the suite provides comfort and privacy with country views undisturbed by traffic, city noise and lights. The location is just outside of the Sebastopol city limit and a few minutes drive from Occidental and Bodega Bay.

Solitude means that everything is a short drive away. Wine lovers have more than 50 wineries within a 5-mile radius of Sebastopol, and more than 200 wineries within Sonoma County's twelve wine appellations. There's even heirloom apple-made hard cider nearby at the Tilted Shed Ciderworks.

Foodies will delight in the Zagat-rated local restaurants within an easy drive including Farmhouse Inn, K & L Bistro, Gravenstein Grill, Corks, Backyard Restaurant, Fork Roadhouse, Pack Jack Bar-B-Que, Handline and Revibe; to name a few. Local nearby nightlife, live music and dancing can be found at Hopmonk Tavern, Lucky Star and the new Barlow shopping/dining complex (5 to 10 minute drive).

Bob is a retired and an avid motorcyclist, actively involved in the community (through Rotary, community activism, etc), who has lived in Sebastopol for over 30 years. Bob is a live music fan who appreciates the bounty that our local area provides, and looks forward to sharing it with you.

Teresa, a yoga instructor and former therapist/teacher working with special needs children, as well as a mom of two very active, fun kids herself, lives offsite, and takes care of reservations and operations. She is your primary hostess.

Moka is our Canine greeter. She is a Black Lab mix, that was rescued. She is a little afraid of people she doesn't know, but is great with adults, kids, and other dogs once she is introduced (doggie snacks are great icebreakers).

Meg, who also lives offsite, is a Certified Massage Therapist & Health Educator. She has done massage therapy professionally for more than 18 years and provides a variety of modalities and services. Her regular clientele include guests at the areas luxury resorts and spas. Pending availability, Meg can be booked for in-suite massage therapy sessions upon request. Please contact Bob or Teresa for more information.

Motorcycle riders, the area is perfect for scenic rides. Ask about favorite rides through redwoods, along the coast, or along river, vineyards and dairies. I may be able to act as personal guide, schedule permitting. Please contact for more information.

IMPORTANT: NO SMOKING INSIDE. No housekeeping is available. Laundry facilities may be arranged for stays of a week or longer. Please let us know in advance if your four-legged friends are traveling with you. They are most welcome!

Once every two or three years, two full moons will occur in a month. This phenomenon is known as a blue moon. Used colloquially it means - a rare event, as in the phrase "once in a blue moon". We've created the Blue Moon Suite to be a place of rare beauty and peace surrounded by the incredible nature of Western Sonoma County.

We look forward to meeting you. Bob, Teresa (& Moka)

I was traveling for work & the quiet and secluded location was relaxing for me after a long day. The suite is spacious with a small couch and separate desk if you want to sit and use a laptop, plus a small kitchenette. King size bed was a nice perk. Bob & Teresa were very attentive & communicative. I would have rated it higher but there was an issue with the hot water in the shower. Moka the black lab is a sweetheart.

Response from Bob & Teresa:
We are glad that you had an opportunity to stay with us and enjoy the suite. You may have missed the note in our written description that the suite has a 20 gallon electric water heater that does not recover at a high rate, so extended showers are not recommended. It has not been a problem for most guests, nor when I lived in the suite myself for a period of time. I'll add a label to remind future guests, in case they miss it in the write up. Bob

Great location in Sebastopol. Very quiet. We didn't get a chance to meet the host because of our schedule but they were very informative about directions, etc. Would stay again when we're in the area.

We had a nice stay at Blue Moon suites. It was very comfortable and the little kitchenette came in handy. If I had any complaint at all is the picture of the outside space wasn't how I imagined. Nice but it is on pavement and not private at all. This wasn't a problem though as it was pretty quiet. We met Bob our second day and he was very friendly and gave us some good tourist advice. We never met Theresa but she was very good at communicating info about the cottage. Sebastopol is a great location for wineries and all the towns nearby are very cute and happening places. I'd recommend it for sure.

Teresa communicated with us before we arrived to make sure we had all the instructions to get inside and was available to answer any questions we had. The apartment was easy to find and check in was smooth and easy as well. Bob was just getting home as we arrived so had the chance to chat a bit - nice guy! The apartment was clean and as described. It had everything we needed for a quick overnight and we appreciated the extra little touches like chocolates, a DVD collection (complete with Sideways to get into full wine country mode) and shampoo/conditioner in the bathroom. We were there during a crazy heat wave, but Teresa had kept the shades drawn and had a fan going for us, which kept the place a pretty comfortable temperature, despite the record heat. The location was perfect for us, and the grounds were quite serene - felt like we were away from it all, but still only a short drive from Sebastopol and plenty of wineries. Would definitely return, thanks for the hospitality!

Very tranquil and secluded location. Check in was easy. Good for visiting wine country in Sonoma and Napa as well as local Sebastopol wineries. It was so incredibly hot while we were there that Bob was nice enough to offer their pool so we could cool off.
