The house is beautiful, bright and spacious. It an old family house in the centre of Reykjavik.
It has five bedrooms and two bathrooms, private entrance and private parking. The location is superb- right in the heart of the city centre.

The space

There are five bedrooms and two bathrooms. A cozy back garden as well as a private parking space if you decide to rent a car.

Three of the bedrooms and one bathroom are on the upper floor but one of them is railroad style. There is a washing machine in the upstairs bathroom as well as a dryer. Two of the upstairs bedrooms have a double bed and the third one two singles.

One bedroom downstairs has a double bed and the other has two single beds. The bathroom downstairs has a shower.

The kitchen is on the lower floor. It is open plan and very spacious, designed for a chef - by a chef, fully equipped with a gas hob, two large ovens, fridge/freezer and a dishwasher.

There is a large dining table with 8 dining chairs (extra can be added if needed), and the living room is adjacent, with two sofas.

The stairs to the upper floor might be a challenge to older or younger guests.

The house is historic and once belonged to Iceland´s most famous composer Jón Leifs and plays an important role in the city´s history. It has been carefully restored over the last few years where the focus has been on replacing as little as possible, paying homage to its historical and cultural significance.

Other things to note

Smoke outside. Shoes off please. Respect the neighbors and it should be quiet between 24:00 - 07:00. It is a quiet family neighborhood, but if you are in the mood for a party, you are only a two minute walk away from Reykjavík's finest nightlife. Please don't bring the party home!

The good outweighs the ongoing renovation. The inside of the home is artsy, large, historic, and well-appointed. We passed the house twice when we arrived because the entire outside is covered in scaffolding. The home is still under major renovation. The inside was largely finished sans nails coming through the main bathroom ceiling. The front door lock sticks--check that you have the correct key. The location is perfect and it's in a quiet residential neighborhood. Some of our friends stayed in a hotel and were up all night due to the bar next door. Once the house is finished, it will be 5 stars. We traveled with two adults and five teenagers and there was plenty of room (2k sq ft) comfortable beds, stylish interior, espresso machine, full-size kitchen (American standards). There are 5 full bedrooms but tow of them are attached (you have to walk through the master to get to a bedroom). Given the scaffolding and the lack of description on the site, I gave it less stars. The hosts were very responsive and kind. I would stay here again, yet a better description is appreciated, so I'm leaving details for future travelers. Ask the hosts about the full history. It's fascinating! We love Iceland and will certainly be back!

We were with 6 men in this very old (1887), supernice house in the centre of Reykjavik. We understand that Thora is renting it out temporarily since she is almost ready with the renovation. So you have to be quick if you want to experience this.

Where to begin....Thora and her family were friendly, helpful, responsive and willing to assist at all times. The house is perfect for a large group with an amazing kitchen and tons of space & bedrooms. In a perfectly central location you would be very fortunate to stay here on your trip to Iceland!

I rented this place for friends for my wedding in Iceland. They raved about how comfortable and well stocked and well decorated the place was, particularly the great kitchen!

The hosts were great, very nice and very responsive to any questions or requests. This home is a very unique historic home in a great, convenient location, but the exterior is undergoing renovation and therefore has an unfinished and unattractive appearance. There is also scaffolding around the entire exterior, as the listing mentions. One of the five bedrooms upstairs is "railroad" style where you have to go through another bedroom to access it. We didn't use that room, but this arrangement could create big problems for some renters and so should be disclosed. Had we known one couple had to sleep in twin beds in order to have a private bedroom entry, we might have selected a different property. There was also no TV in the living area, only in the upstairs master bedroom -- no reference was made to TV's in the listing either way, but we expected there to be one in the common area of a house like this. We were using the house for three days leading up to my daughter's wedding. The kitchen and dining/living areas were great for completing some last minute wedding preparations. It was overall a very comfortable property, but until renovations are complete we feel the price should be discounted. It should also be noted that even though this house is in a residential area, it is still close to a busy downtown road and therefore during business hours there is a good bit of traffic noise.
