Yanyong's place was really great for us in Bangkok. We ended up not using the Skytrain as much as expected because Taxis are so cheap, but if you are travelling solo it could be more worth it to take the Skytrain. The neighborhood is great. There are a couple 7-11s right by the place, plus a giant supermarket/food court called Big C which is a cultural experience in itself. There are many street food stands selling all sorts of delicious foods. There is a small coffee shop just a few doors down (if you are facing the building, it's to the left) that actually serves real espresso drinks, lattes, cappuccinos, americanos, and they are super nice and have Wifi, and the best part--coffees are all about 35 bhat. The rooftop pool was very nice after a day of exploring, though be aware it doesn't get sun until around 1:00pm onward, at least not in June. The thing about the building posting scary signs about it not being a hotel...well, it's true, there is a lot of scary signage. But from the moment we arrived, the security guards, front desk people, cleaning people up at the pool area--they all were super nice and made us feel welcome, even though it's pretty obvious we don't live there and are doing an AirBnb thing. So I guess just ignore the signs! Building is very safe, two security guards out front at all times, plus you need a keycard to enter and to use the elevator. Room we had was small but nice, cool view, great shower, bed was a bit soft and springy, but we slept great on it. Fridge was stocked with a few bottles of water and two cokes when we arrived--exactly what we needed after 30 hours of flying!
