I stayed in one of Laura's Amara gardens appartments/rooms alone for 1 night because I was in transit to catch another flight. Good things: - it was very clean - the appartment is independent (has its own: entrance, kitchen, toilet, shower, laundry line, washing machine, etc.) practically a house on its own. - there is a detailed manual for the appartment and things to do. - The appartment is surrounded by a nice garden with the sounds of birds, frogs and crickets. - It has airconditioning and also a lot of windows with musquito nets. - Wifi is fast enough. - the appartment is fully equipped with everything you can imagine: pots and pans, stove, microwave, fridge, dinner table, washing machine, fire extinguisher, first aid kit, emergency lights, shampoo, sunblock, soap, detergent, television, coffee, tea, toilet paper, kitchen wipes, insect repellent, what not? - There is hot shower water - Laura can take you on a tour (local fruit and vegetable tour, historical tour, etc., hiking tour) - The neighbours are friendly and help you out if your lost. Development points: - the last 100 meters to the appartment are not asphalted - the appartment is not in the center of the tourist area - the front neighbour has a lot of cars in his garden - There should be a identification on the entrance door like "Amara gardens", "Tropical homestead", or even just "Laura" would be enough identification that your know you are in the right place.

Amara Gardens was the perfect place for me to land in Antigua. It's near Hodges Bay, which is why I chose it (I was born on the island and my family lived in Hodges Bay). I did not know beforehand that it would be such a private refuge- I felt very safe as a woman traveling alone. And it is incredibly beautiful- I loved the chickens and baby chicks! Also, a treat to find papayas, cherries and all kinds of other edibles growing there waiting to be eaten :) Laura is a *perfect* host, available if you need her, otherwise unobtrusive. The apartment was lovely and spotlessly clean. She generously picked me up and delivered me to the airport AND took me on a short detour to the grocery store. The softest sheets and delicious smelling hand soap, too! Thank you, Laura!

All communication with Laura was so easy and she was super quick to respond to all questions. She even picked me up, went to the supermarked with me to make sure I had everything I needed - and offered to take me again later on. She is very pleasant and easy to talk to. I only stayed two nights but I had everything I needed. It a short walk to a small local beach - which I had mostly to myself. I loved being off the beaten track in a place with plants and nature. The space was private. I had a small kitchen with everything you: sink, fridge/freezer, cooker. Bath room, a comfortable bed, wifi, aircon and outdoor space to sit and to hang wet towels from the beach. I would definitely return.

Laura's place was wonderful, clean , cozy , comfortable and bug free! Laura was an amazing communicator and helped us throughout our 4 night stay. She took us to the grocery and out to eat we really enjoyed her company! The only "critique" is that the village is a little bit away from town so if you're not comfortable taking minibuses (we were) you'll need a car . Also a few popular tourist attractions were across the island but this wasn't a problem for us. Overall highly recommend this location :)

Laura's place was awesome. A bit out of the way but I enjoyed my stay there.

Laura User ProfileLaura is a superhost.

An avid gardener and reader and consider myself an off the beaten path traveller. Outdoor activities like hiking and exploring what destinations has to offer are on my top list of things to do. I am still working my way through my list of destinations and plan to see a lot more of the world in the upcoming years.

I started hosting on the recommendation of a friend and am enjoying meeting people and being a part of their adventures. As a host I love showing travelers what my island has to offer from a local perspective and not just what is seen in the tourist guides.
