WHERE TO SNACK, EAT AND DRINK IN VENICE

CASTELLO:

Food & Drinks

Pizzeria Ai Tosi Piccoli(lunch/dinner)

Address: Castello, Calle Secco Marina, 738, 30122

Family-run business, easy going place serving delicious pizza. Booking recommended, especially during the weekend! Here you will really savour the local culture, this small pizzeria is always crowded with locals and can be quite noisy. And that's what I like about it! Excellent prices.

Al Refolo (snacks/drinks)

Address: Castello, Via Garibaldi 1580, 30122

Small wine bar in Via Garibaldi, located in a beautiful position, offering a wide assortment of small panini, the taste of which is simply amazing! They always heat them so they're crispy in the outside and soft in the inside...

My review

Salvmeria (cicheti and wine)

Address: Castello, Via Garibaldi 1769, 30122 Venice

Located in front of the above mentioned Refolo, Salveria is a brand new cicheteria offering a delicious assortment of fish and vegetable nibbles, cured meats, small sandwiches and very good wine. Great value for money, particular location. Love it.

Le Spighe (eatery/take-away)

Address: Castello, Via Garibaldi 1341, 30122 Venice

Vegetarian eatery and take away close to the Biennale Giardini area, ideal if you are looking for vegan, vegetarian and organic food. It closes at around 7:30 pm, so great for lunch or for take-away food.

Al Covo (traditional restaurant)

Address: Castello, Calle de la Pescaria, 3968, 30122 Venice

Excellent traditional restaurant in a beautiful and elegant location, offering local seafood and a very interesting selection of wine. Very good service, highly recommended. Medium/High price range.

CoVino (slow food/gourmet restaurant)

Address: Calle del Pestrin, Castello3829 - 30122

Lovely restaurant with absolutely amazing food. The manager has a bubbly personality, is incredibly knowledgeable about wine and food and is always there to make sure the service is top quality. This small restaurant is part of the Slow Food movement and all ingredients come from sustainable sources. I highly recommend it! And don't forget to book.

Local (high end gourmet)

Address: Salizzada dei Greci, 3303, 30122 Castello, Venezia VE

Absolutely excellent high end restaurant that pays great attention to regional and local ingredients, modern design and never fails to leave its clients astonished with the beautiful platings and the creative and successful combinations. Great wine list, high price range (consider the lunch menu for 40 euros that includes starter, 2 mains and a dessert). Highly recommended.

Trattoria da Jonny (family-friendly gourmet)

Address: Castello, Campiello delle Gatte 3210, 30122 Venice

Lovely restaurant offering traditional food presented in a modern version. Fresh and seasonal products, excellent quality, beautiful plating, generous portions and great service. With regard to wine, don't be afraid to ask, their list is long and really well selected. Mid/High price range.

My review

Aciugheta (for pizza)

Address: Campo SS. Filippo e Giacomo, 4357, 30122

This is the place if you want to have pizza! The pizza dough is the best one in Venice, honestly! Unfortunately they don't take bookings, so you just have to pass by and hope to find a table...
If, instead, you just want to snack (but you should be saying cichetarby now), try the fried arancini, round fritters made with risotto with peas and meat ragù and a mozzarella heart (do I need to add more?) and their baccalà.

Birreria Forst (snacks/drinks)

Address: Castello, Calle delle Rasse 4540, 30122 Venice

Snack bar close to Saint Mark's offering delicious tramezzini, toasted sandwiches and small rosette (a soft type of bread shaped as a rose) stuffed with cheese, mortadella or prosciutto. Ideal for a quick budget break in this area.

Al Portego (cicheti + lunch/dinner)

Address: Calle della Malvasia 6015, 30122

In this small osteria it's possible to sit down for a nice traditional meal or to enjoy a plate of cicchetti standing  chatting with the locals and the numerous travellers. Often crowded, it's a great solution for lunch. At around 12:30 they offer freshly made risottos at he excellent cost of 6 euros per portion (standing)!

My review

Alle Testiere (traditional restaurant)

Address:  Calle del Mondo Novo, Castello 5801, 30122

This Venetian restaurant is renowned for the use of high quality ingredients and for the take on traditional dishes. It's very small and cozy, which means that the staff pay attention to every detail. Great wine list and amazing food!
Medium-high price range...but totally worth it!!!!

Coffee & Ice-Cream:

Caffe La Serra(snacks/teas/coffees)

Address: Via Giuseppe Garibaldi, 1254, 30100

This beautiful glass and iron greenhouse has been recently renovated and transformed into a recreational area with a greenhouse with plants and laboratories and a gorgeous cafeteria with a chilled and relaxed atmosphere. Delicious freshly squeezed juices and sandwiches.
My review

Pasticceria Bonifacio (pastry shop)
Address: Castello, Calle degli Albanesi 4237, 30100 Venice

Tiny traditional pastry shop offering lots of pastries and mouthwatering savoury pizzette, made both with a pastry and a bread dough! In winter I suggest trying the fried cream or a piece of Dogaressa cake.

Il Pinguino (ice-cream shop)

Address: 2141 Castello, Venezia, VE 30122

Delicious homemade ice-cream, I suggest the ricotta and fig flavour and -of course- if you come to Venice you MUST try the famous "Panna in Ghiaccio".

La Boutique del Gelato (ice-cream)

Address: Salizzada San Lio, 5727, 30100

Artisan ice-cream, delicious flavours and friendly staff. Generous portions and excellent price! Love it!
