Outstanding hospitality

This cosy and quiet guest room has a comfortable, double bed, with hanging space, and directly opens out onto the pool from a large sliding door. The house is clean, well furnished and open. We are friendly hosts with a well-behaved dog, and his smaller friend, our affectionate cat! :) Our home is on the outskirts of Inner Brisbane in a quiet and safe suburb, making for a 10 min drive to the city centre. Some public transport is available, with a car space on the property on request.

The space
This guest room in our house has a super comfortable double bed, with a memory foam topper, where the mattress and pillow protectors, and all linen are thoroughly cleaned in between each stay.

There is some hanging space with hangers and some drawers in a stand-up wardrobe. The use of towels and shower products are, of course, included with spares available on request. Extra blankets and linen are also available.

Our home is unique in the neighbourhood, and was built in the early 2000s as an eco-build project, and is based on mid-century modern architecture with some Japanese influences. It's designed to encourage natural airflow through the house and light access, with extraordinarily high ceilings, and louvres at the top to expel hot air in Summer. Guests often describe staying with us like staying at a retreat.

There is another guest room at the back of the house across from this room. Your hosts, Peter and Jaie, stay in the main room at the front of the house. During your stay, there may be another guest/s in the other guest room as well. All three rooms in the house share two well-maintained bathrooms. Both bathrooms have a toilet, and one has a shower, while the other has a bath.

Our kitchen is a pleasure to cook in, as it is large, has a dishwasher, and is very well kitted, with good quality appliances, pots, pans, knives, crockery, etc.

In the laundry, we have a washing machine, dryer, and a washing line outside you can use.

Guest access
Other than your room, guest access includes a parking space in the driveway if arranged (uncovered), use of all common areas, such as kitchen and living, pool, gym set-up, washing machine, and dryer. You may use the house computer too on a guest account if you'd like. We have very fast wifi.

A multitude of tea and coffee are available in the kitchen. For longer stays, we can make room in our fridge and pantry for storage of your own food.

Other things to note
1. If you intend to do lots of travelling around Brisbane and you don't have a car, please consider the transport options near our house. Depsite there being light public transport available from our house, a room in the centre of the city might be better for you if you are relying on public transport. If you have a car though, then are are very well located and you will have no problems. We have an uncovered driveway to park in, and space on the road. But not a lock-up garage. See our notes under 'Getting Around' for more information.

2. We have a playful dog and an affectionate cat! Both are very friendly, and well behaved, and are kept clean. Our dog does not jump up onto furniture and beds, and is trained not to go into your room unless you ask him to. Our cat, however, does whatever he likes!. If you have a dog/s yourself, you are welcome to bring them along. The property is fenced, with a small grassed area at the front.

3. The house does not have air-con, but the house has a pool, all the rooms have fans, and the house has been designed to allow a very pleasant breeze to travel through. If air-con is essential for your stay in Brisbane, please reconsider this property.

4. Our two bathrooms are shared by everyone. There is not a private bathroom for this room. The bathrooms are kept very clean, of course.

5. Note on cleaning: because this is an active household, with long-term tenants living here as well and other guests, we do expect guests to be tidy, and to clean-up after themselves in shared areas such as the kitchen and in the bathrooms. The $10 cleaning fee covers the cost and time of thoroughly laundering the sheets and light cleaning in between stays in the room, and is not a substitute for cleaning general mess created by guests. We appreciate guests who respect this.

Location

Toowong, Queensland, Australia

Toowong is an attractive, safe, and pleasant neighbourhood, and is very close to the city, within 10 mins drive to the city centre. We are close to amenities, such as shops - both Toowong Villiage and Indooroopilly Shopping Centre are within 5 mins drive - and close to neighbourhood favourites, such as the Mt Coot-tha Look-out, local cafes, the Botanical Gardens, and all the city attractions. Our street is a well established, older street, with tall trees, and little traffic. We are close to the Mt Coot-tha National Forest, and so hear a lot of birds in the mornings and evenings, as well as having a beautiful forest walk about 5 mins walk from our house to enjoy. A lot of well-to-do families and young professionals live in this area, on account of the location relative to the city. We are also close to the Paddington and Rosalie district, known for their great cafés and restaurants. We can, of course, recommend our favourites.

I work in building design and run art classes on the side. I live with my partner, Peter, who work in environmental science. We are in our late twenties/ early thirities, and we, and our border collie dog, enjoy hosting people from around the world in our home, which we usually share with other housemates when we aren't Airbnbing the rooms. When we are not home, we are travelling to new and known places and always look forwards to staying with and meeting other hosts. We are all friendly and socialise, but we are also respectful of space and noise. :) We love drinking wine and home cooking, and are especially good at doing both! (We speak English and French)

During your stay
Peter and Jaie, your hosts, are sociable, and often hang out in the kitchen and living room socialising with guests if they please, if time permits. But if independence is prefered, that's not a problem.

Jaie is an art teacher, so if one of her classes coincides with your stay, you are welcome to come along! Or if she is painting in the house to prepare for a class, you may also wish to join in.

Otherwise, guests sometimes enjoy taking our dog with them on a walk through the near-by bush-forest, which is a 5 min walk down the road.
