Papo offers guided yoga and meditaton classes every morning at 9:00am. Suggested donation is $10/person. When he brings you into Casa Kadam be sure to let him know if you wish to attend either or both classes. When both eco-cottages are occupied Sana offers Meditations for World Peace from 7 - 7:45 pm in the Peace Pavilion free of charge. Let Papo know if you are interested in participating.
Interaction with guests
Sana & Papo, musicians by trade (both fully bilingual), live and work on the Finca(farm) and are always available to answer any questions or address any concern. They are well versed in all the local customs, local flora and fauna (Papo is a trained forester) have a close relationship with their neighbors, and will be glad to recommend short excursions from the farm (1 hour or less) to visit local points of interest.
When our cook is available we offer custom, catered meals of traditional, local food using organic, local farm fresh ingredients (truly farm to table!).
Our local friend and caterer, Daly, when available, will freshly prepare and serve in your kitchen traditional Puerto Rican dishes and she offers one curry vegan dinner. All her platters @ $18 per person.
Megan, a professional gourmet vegetarian chef, when available, will travel 2 hours from her home to prepare Farm-to-Table exquisite platters @ $25 per person. It is important to note these cooks are not always available.
Both caterers request that you make your inquiries via email directly from your personal email 2 weeks prior to your stay. Occasionally they can accept reservations with only one weeks notice (but less likely).
(EMAIL HIDDEN) on all correspondences with Daly & Megan
Daily morning Yoga and Meditation classes are available by senior Kadampa
meditation instructors. We offer private guided meditation instruction for both beginning and experienced meditators. The cost is $10 ( 45 min. class)
Other things to note
IMPORTANT ARRIVAL INSTRUCTIONS: You must do all of your grocery shopping (there are no stores or restaurants where we are. It is supremely remote and beautiful!) and arrive in Peñuelas in time to start up the mountain at 3:30 pm. At this time call Papo (PHONE NUMBER HIDDEN) (he does not text) to let him know where you are. This is very important as Papo will be meeting you in barrio Barreal to guide you up the last hills into the mountains at 4 PM.
GPS's do NOT provide accurate (non maintained, treacherous roads) or complete directions to date.
DIRECTIONS: (Even if your map shows shorter routes from the south, west or mountains to the north be sure to use the following directions)
Take Salida #213 into Peñuelas. You will pass a mini-mall with a supermarket and Walgreens on your left. Go through 2 lights, continue over a bridge and left at the T into the pueblo. You will pass the plaza and church on your left. Continue on the main street up a gradual incline and you will see SELECTOS supermarket on your right. At this point call Papo (he does not text) (PHONE NUMBER HIDDEN) to let him know you are about to start up 386.
Go RIGHT onto Ruta 386 that will take you up the windy road through barrio Jaguas. Drive on that road BEEPING YOUR HORN AROUND ALL CURVES TO ALERT CARS DESCENDING ON THE BLIND CURVES) and you will drive about 15 minutes until you reach the Welcoming sign for bo Barreal where you will see a cement bus stop on your left.
Call Papo again at this point.
Go straight over the hump and continue another 5+ minutes up & down winding curves until at the end of a long incline passing houses you will see a chapel directly in front of you.
Papo will meet you there at 4 pm and guide you up the last leg of the journey.
We will park at Casa del Mundo and then guide you along the path to Casa Kadam---a pleasant 10 minute walk. Please bring flashlights, day packs and appropriate foot ware for hiking. We will escort you to the Casita. Guests need to purchase in town all the food (we provide organic coffee, sugar ) you will need for your stay prior to arrival, but if you're booking an extended stay, you can always journey down the mountain to Peñuelas (30 minutes) for more supplies or to eat out. We recommend quests to bring flashlights, flip fops and a warm shirt or sweater for the sometimes cool mountain breezes. Best to carry your belongings out in day packs. Wheeled luggage will not roll over the trail.
Please note: this space is appropriate for children ages 7 and up.
And, most important, be prepared to immerse yourself in the tranquility and beauty of this unique high mountain valley.
There are 3 eco-casitas located on this model farm--Finca Caminos y Moradas--dedicated to ecologically sustainable cultivation of cacao, coffee, vegetables and diverse tropical fruits. Depending on the season Papo usually has organic produce available for sale. He needs a days notice in order to harvest for you.
The Finca also provides a space and healing environ for various retreats including meditation/yoga workshops. This ecotourist offering is associated with the not-for-profit entity ECOSECHA. And check out our website puertoricorainforestretreat`.

You need to plan well your trip to Casa Kadam.
We will meet you at the chapel in Barrio Barreal ( 30min. from Peñuelas center ) at 4:00pm.
Please read "Other Things To Note" in the Description section.
For guests whose flight arrives later than 12pm we suggest you book a night in beautiful Old San Juan the day of your arrival. That way you will have plenty of time the next day to grocery shop and make your way to Peñuelas in time.
From where you park here in the mountains, it is a 10 minute hike to Casa Kadam. Be sure to have good footwear, rain gear and daypacks for carrying out your groceries (suitcases on wheels don't handle the trail).
Pure mountain spring water will quench your thirst upon arrival. We prefer no smoking on the premises but we have allowed guests to smoke outside on occasion.

My husband, Papo, and myself are musicians by trade but here on the Finca we are establishing an alternative small scale agriculture with terraces, cacao forest, and an ecotourism integrated with the local community and environment. We are meditation teachers that have been practicing Kadampa Buddhism for 18 years. We sponsor retreats of all kinds here at this tranquil corner of the island. Guests are invited to participate in both these retreats, or Finca activities but, of course, just hanging, exploring the jungle trails, or a quick trip to the Guanica beaches are also great options.
