  • Justin's place is the perfect spot for a secluded weekend. A great sized place to spread out and enjoy some tranquility. I spent the weekend down there with my family (6 of us in total) and we had a wonderful weekend. A very short drive in the morning led us to Johanna beach which was beautiful. The outdoor shower was a great feature!

  • It was a beautiful journey to the great ocean rd, as well as a great experience to stay at Johanna Manor. Love the grand view and cozy lounge!

  • Excellent environment,nice and quite.

  • It's a very beautiful house. Actually we all shocked when we saw the house. It's better than the one you can see on the picture. The experience of staying there will be unforgetable.

    Charles2017-01-23T00:00:00Z
  • What a view! The house is perched on a rolling green hill looking out over the countryside and the ocean. Sitting in the spacious living room we could watch the weather roll in and hear the waves in the distance; very relaxing. The house is generally well equipped and was perfect for a group of six adults. The beds were comfy and the rooms a good size. Recommend BYO tea / coffee etc and if there is a large group of you, bring a couple of large eskys as the fridge is a normal size. If like us you are all cooks... you might find the fridge a bit squishy for longer stays. All in all a really welcome break from town.

  • Amazingly well designed house and beautiful scenery. Even the fireplace was ready to use :) Highly recommended if you're planning to do the Great Ocean Walk. Approximately 3km from the track.

  • Had an absolutely wonderful stay - beautiful place in a beautiful location - two thumbs up!

    Rohan2017-02-25T00:00:00Z
  • The river retreat was absolutely perfect. An amazing little house with everything you could ever wish for in a relaxing getaway. The sauna and spa were our favourites, and the local sheep kept us well entertained without our usual technology. Lisa was a great host and made everything run very smooth and stress free. We did not want to leave this little piece of farm-like paradise and can not wait to get back.

  • Driving through rain that felt biblical, coastal winds that sailors feared my journey had ended at the farm gate, driving down the track I felt like I was coming home, nestled in the comfort of the landscape was my escape. Door unlocked, fire set it felt warm lived in....amazing place to spend days....

    Carlton2016-07-28T00:00:00Z
  • This lovely little house is hidden away with panoramic views of the hills. Waking up to the sounds of all the animals is amazing. Highly recommend for an escape from the city. Close to twelve apostles and the otways for day trips. We loved staying here and didn’t want to leave. Thank you for such a beautiful stay

  • Beautiful location and a very special attention to detail made our stay a dream! Relaxing and blissful every moment. Thanks Lisa!

    Ella2017-06-05T00:00:00Z
  • It was an absolute delight staying here. Lisa is very accommodating with so many things to do around the Otways. The house is modern but still with a great influence of the country side. Everything listed on her brief was working properly. If you are looking for a secluded get away for you and your partner, this is the PICK OF THE BUNCH! Totally secluded, amounts cows and lambs, on a river, beautiful terrain in a valley with no house in sight, a really beautiful spot and will certainly stay here again, thanks so much again Lisa! Will be in touch Natalie and Thomas x

  • We have just returned from nearly a week at this amazing property. The photos don't do it justice - the views are superb! The wildlife, trees and the river are stunning. We were travelling as a couple with our little pooch, but the house is huge and would comfortably accommodate groups. Everything was really well appointed - kitchen, bathroom, gorgeous linen (heated blankets!) and plenty of firewood (much appreciated as we were there during a very cold spell!). Thanks Lisa, hope to be back soon!

    Tracy2016-06-29T00:00:00Z
  • Lisa was fantastic and her home is stunning. Just what the Dr. ordered to relax and unwind - enjoy the simple things in life without reception, play games, cook up a storm, eat drink and admire the wildlife and cosy fire. I went up with 4 couples and We just loved it! Lisa was so accommodating and greeted us there with the fire already roaring!

    Tamara 2016-06-14T00:00:00Z
  • Fantastic "Get away from it all" four days (No Mobile coverage = No Social Media, no emails, not Txts - Woo Hoo!). House is very well designed and appointed and easily and comfortably accomodated two families of four with Teenage children (They completed a Jigsaw puzzle, went Koala spotting and "Checked the fences" - My daughter commented that she couldn't believe how relaxing it was in the middle of a paddock!). Set in a truly beautiful location, we cooked up a storm for main meals in the very well appointed kitchen and spent the evening lounging in front of the combustion heater. Loved our stay, highly recommend it, Lisa was very easy to contact and communicate with. We'll be back.

    Andy2016-03-27T00:00:00Z
  • We had an amazing time. The house and surrounding area are stunning with wildlife right on your front door. Lisa was great to deal with - would definitely recommend.

  • One of the best AirBnb listings I have stayed at. Spacious, clean, comfortable, well equipped, and with great views. The photos don't do the place justice. Would highly recommend this space to anyone.

    Samuel2017-05-11T00:00:00Z
  • What an absolutely lovely experience. The house is magnificent in a great location. Very fun being a working farm and sheep around. The whole house is incredibly spacious and was a place we will never forget. Everything you need is supplied. Lisa is a pleasure and very helpful. Definitely recommend

    David2016-02-21T00:00:00Z
  • The property did not disappoint and lived up to the impression we had gleaned from photographs of the property and surrounds on the website. It was very clean and tidy, and there is ample room for many guests to stay. It is not too far to Apollo Bay, and is quite a pleasant drive to get there, and it's nice to be able to pop out for a day trip here and there if you wish to, but once on the property, you are very secluded and that's a good thing I think. Lisa was a very friendly helpful host. I would come back for sure.

  • My partner and I stayed at Jodie and Shane's sensational Chi Farm BnB in Glenaire as part of our 3 day great ocean road trip. Jodie and Shane were lovely, thoughtful and were such fantastic hosts. The room was modern and thoughtfully equipped. The bed sheets were wonderful and ensured an amazing nights sleep. In the morning we were greeted with hot coffee, a stack of pancakes with fresh organic berries and a warm smile from our hosts. We honestly wish we stayed 2 nights here; I really mean that. Definitely recommending this place to all my friends and family thinking of doing the great ocean road!

    Marty2017-03-18T00:00:00Z
  • Where do I start, this place is amazing. I cannot praise it enough. Jo and Shane are incredibly welcoming and friendly hosts, and a beautiful couple to blether with. The location was stunning and incredibly peaceful, overlooking lush green farm land and a few minutes walk from a wonderful and quiet beach. The room decor was perfect and the bed was incredibly comfy and cosy. Excellent for resting weary heads after long days sightseeing. We were given a choice of breakfast option and were treated to AMAZINGLY delicious pancakes. We booked to stay one night, but after a relaxing evening were keen to extend our visit. Unfortunately, the room was already taken. We recommend that you book now to avoid disappointment. Overall we highly recommend staying at Chi Medicinal!

  • There is no better place for a stay along the Great Ocean Road! We wish we could have stayed longer! The two nights we spend at this lovely space were like heaven. And we cannot recommend enough to stay here. Jodie and Shane are the perfect hosts. They really made us feel welcome and very comfortable from the first second of our stay. The room we had was perfect for us two - really tasteful furnished with stylish details! The ensuite bathroom is breathtaking with an amazing large waterfall shower head. The bedroom has a large flatscreen TV with Foxtel. Jodie had pre-recorded a lot of different movies and series. The bed is comfortable - we slept like on clouds. The included breakfast with delicious coffee was brought to our room and is a 10/10!! Jodie is a brillant cook! The food was beautifully prepared and tasted excellent. We highly recommend to take dinner at the Chi B&B! It is stunning tasteful. Jodie & Shane gave us so many great recommendations of things to see in the area - a day long round trip in the Otway NP - where we spotted Koalas - via some waterfalls and the Treetop Walk. All highly recommend. Thank you so much for having us Jodie & Shane! Hopefully we have the chance to stay at your place again.

  • Very welcoming host! The room has a private entrance and an amazing view overlooking the farm. That was a completely an unforgettable stay for my friend and I. We will definitely come back sometime soon. Hotes tres accueillants !

  • Amazing stay. Breathtaking ocean road retreat. Near beach and local walks, great if visiting 12 apostles. Dinner was superb. Haven't had a gourmet meal like that in a very long time. Thank you so much. Will be returning and recommending.

  • Perfect hosts and an ideal location for walking and cycling. Highly recommend dining in.

    Tim2017-01-10T00:00:00Z
  • Clean place with brand new furnishings that were tastefully chosen. Options to add soft drinks in the fridge to your tab. With all the care taken with fittings and furnishings, we were disappointed that the large glass front sliding door was not adequately covered by the thin blind for privacy at night. Once that small but necessary feature is fixed we wouldn't hesitate to recommend the place.

Located in South Western Victoria and stretching from Anglesea in the east to Princetown in the west, the Otway Ranges, encompassing the Great Otway National Park, is a diverse and special place. Rising from the flat agricultural plains of the Western district, the Otways reach a height of 600m, cascading south through rolling green hills down to the ocean, framing a large portion of Victoria's world famous Great Ocean Road. In the lush hinterland of deep, dark myrtle glooms, over half of all Victoria's pristine waterfalls exist here, as well as remnant patches of cool temperate rainforest. Stands of tall, old-growth forest, waterfalls, fern-lined rivers, cool rainforest and occasional sweeping views over the hills to the ocean make the Otways a walker's paradise. Here, too, exists the heritage-listed Aire River, the tract of pristine water that gives Glen Aire its name. The Otways are bordered on the south by Bass Strait and feature the oldest operational lighthouse on the Australian mainland at Cape Otway. Construction of the Cape Otway Lightstation began in 1846 and the light, which has been in continuous operation since 1848, is perched on towering sea cliffs where Bass Strait and the Southern Ocean collide. For thousands of immigrants, after many months at sea, Cape Otway was their first sight of land after leaving Europe. Unfortunately, the lighthouse was built for a reason – the years preceding its operation saw a large number of shipwrecks, and hence the stretch of coast running from Cape Otway to Port Fairy is known as The Shipwreck Coast. It offers another amazing opportunity to discover the rich history that abounds the South West Victorian Coast.
  • Bruce made sure everything was set and it was a great place! In a good quiet location if you need some time off.

    Darrell2016-12-31T00:00:00Z
  • Bruce's place is a lovely secluded place to stay just off the Great Ocean Road. Clean and had most of what we needed including a little basket full of breakfast goodies and bread in the fridge which we appreciated. Only downside is that there is no reception or WiFi but we managed okay without it. Thanks for the lovely stay Bruce.

  • Thank you for a lovely stay. The home is well designed with great (but simple) finishes. We really enjoyed the use of the BBQ (even in the wet weather) and fire was a treat. We had great (unfamiliar) experience going off the grid which was still very accessible to the great ocean walk and we even tried the board games. Would definitely come back and recommend to others :-)

  • This gorgeous getaway was everything we wanted and more. It was secluded, cosy, and nestled in nature. Moon Rise Cottage had excellent amenities. It had the charm of a rustic cabin with modern luxuries. The dog friendliness of the cabin was lovely, and our pup was very spoilt. Fire was lovely, spa was fab, plenty of info about what to do in the area. Saw a koala and a few wallabies around! We recommend it and we will be back.

    Rosalie2015-07-06T00:00:00Z
  • Loved everything. Beautiful secluded little place. Dog had a ball. Thanks :)

  • A truly lovely place in a lovely location - the cottage is delightful and perfectly located between beautiful walks and amazing coastal views. We loved the fireplace and making our own bread - thanks for sharing your space! Would visit again.

  • We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the cottage! Set amongst the trees, with views of beautiful lush bush land from every window. Sharon was very helpful and made our stay a breeze. I wish we could have stayed longer! Definitely recommend & we ourselves hope to be back again.

    Nathan2016-09-11T00:00:00Z
  • Our stay was absolute perfection. Thank you Sharon for creating such an incredible experience. The Otways are such a special part of the world and what a wonderful way to spend our time there. Thank you again.

  • Remote (but not too remote). Beautiful inside and out. The pictures do not do it justice. We must return.

  • A+ Property! It was super amazing. Great experience! The views were amazing! The bed was very comfortable, and the bathroom rain shower was relaxing. The living/dining/kitchen room has TV speakers in the ceiling, so you are always connected with the house activities. It is very quiet day and night, and at night you can witness the most beautiful sky full of stars ever. It is a house that you will enjoy looking at and taking pictures of. It's ideal for a couple of nights to share with a couple of friends or family or only with your better half. If you want to escape your daily routine, and want two or three days of heaven views, this is it.

  • The perfect peaceful getaway. We were completely mesmerised by the view. It was so fabulous to wake up, open your eyes, and have the ocean, the coast, and the rolling green hills as the first thing you see. The house is beautiful and very well equipped, from the comfortable beds, the comfy lounge, to the outdoor shower. We were pleased with how the kitchen was set up with all the equipment you could need. I would recommend this to anyone who wants to get away from their busy lives for a while.

  • What a magnificent house capped off with a spectacular view. Do yourself a favour and spend some time recharging the batteries in this wonderful location. Thanks for having us, will be back for sure. Ben

    Ben2017-09-04T00:00:00Z
  • The house is spectacular. The owners have done an incredible job equipping the house to have everything you need. I did not however enjoy any of my interactions with the rental accomodation rental property manager. They were aggressive, rude and push upon company policies that are a direct violation against Airbnb rules - specifically requesting for additional bond authorisation outside of the Airbnb platform, despite the security deposit I acknowledge as part of the listing. 5/5 for the house. 1/5 for the property manager.

  • Geoff was there to greet us when we arrived, and even had the fire going so the place was nice and toasty! Excellent spot to explore Cape Otway, very comfortable with everything you need to make yourself at home.

  • We had a fantastic stay at this property while exploring Cape Otway and its surrounds. Waking up to the sounds of wildlife was amazing. Geoffrey was a wonderful host who even had a warm fire ready for us upon arrival. I would recommend this place to anyone interested in coming to the area.

  • Geoff lives in a lovely, private location that enabled us to have a wonderful weekend away. We were able to walk to the beach from the property as well as a close drive to the Cape Otway Lighthouse and Blanket Bay. We saw koalas, wallabies and kangaroos each day we were there. The accommodation was clean and neat and the kitchen well equipped for us to cook. It is around a half hour drive to Apollo Bay for dinner if you do not have your own food. We saw Geoff on our second day who was very helpful.

    Amanda2016-01-27T00:00:00Z
  • Geoff's little shack in Cape Otway is the perfect escape for a couple wanting some naturally orientated time away. The sunsets were beautiful, Geoff (although we didn't get to meet him) was constantly communicating with us and making sure that we were comfortable. Completely self-contained and wonderfully cosy. I would highly recommend this weekend getaway to all.

    Jack2015-03-10T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful Place - we saw Kangaroos and Koalas directly in Front of our deck. Spotless clean and with all needed things you expect - only small issue - no wifi and no mobile connection. Geoffrey is a wonderful host and a very nice Person to talk. Unfortunately he was not there on our first evening so we only had one evening to ist together and talk - what wie enjoyed a lot. If you are looking for a unusual place to stay in a beautiful surrounding - this is what you will get here. Would we return - for sure yes....

    Michael2016-03-17T00:00:00Z

  • Thank you Nicole for sharing your house, I had a great time. Your communication before our arrival was great and it was very east to find and access the property. The house was very clean and tidy upon arrival also. I think what I enjoyed the most was having the fire burning to warm up the house so it was cozy after staring up at the bright night sky on the veranda.

    Kris2017-07-23T00:00:00Z
  • Nicola's place was exactly as shown in the pictures. It is very private and great for big groups/family, she had provided board games, movies etc for in-house entertainment and the yard is great for picnics. Staying a day was definitely not enough to enjoy the house. However, to get food/petrol it would be most preferable to get it before the nearest shop closes as the next one is relatively far. Her place is about 45mins drive to twelve apostles as well as Apollo bay. And 6mins to johanna beach.

    Amanda2016-12-11T00:00:00Z
  • Nicola's place is a perfect place from which to explore the great Ocean road. It's a very cozy cabin with lots of space and the most fantastic views. We all wished we had booked for a week not just 2 nights and we will definitely be back! Comfortable beds, well equipped kitchen, heaps of space, masses of stunning birds.

  • This was the most beautiful and tranquil place that we could have stayed at in the Johanna area near the Great Ocean Road in my opinion. The house was spotlessly clean and there were plenty of places to sleep as there were two queen sized beds and two sets of bunk beds. She was even kind enough to leave a complimentary bottle of champaign! There was a guidebook for how to get around the area, how to use the facilities in the area, etc. This was a wonderful place to stay and I would definitely come back here if I were to ever to return to the Great Ocean Road. The area surrounding Muxy's Place is awesomely beautiful. Really, nothing but beautiful, giant rolling hills with nothing but sheep, cattle, and sometimes kangaroos (which was amazing as an American who's never seen them!) I would recommend this place to anyone thinking about visiting southern Australia. Thank you letting us stay there!!!

    Kathleen2015-11-07T00:00:00Z
  • Very child friendly place - toys, trampoline, outdoor picnic spaces, animals and rolling fields! We went with 4 kids - ages 1-5 years old. A great way for family to enjoy countryside.

The Boomerangs at Johanna: Great Ocean Road luxury accommodation which is quintessentially Australian. Three award winning boomerang shaped cottages, each with 2 bedrooms and all with fantastic ocean views. Sorry, no pets.
Nothing like this in the rest of Australia!
The Great Otway National Park is a treasure and we are in the middle of it.
  • The Boomerangs are truly one of a kind. We stayed two nights on our way from Melbourne to Adelaide. There was so much to see along the way between Melbourne and Johanna (where the Boomerangs are) that we arrived well past 8 pm. Mark and Roz, who live in the "4th boomerang" right on the property, checked us into Cottage 1. The cottage was clean and well kept. Make sure to wake up early to catch the unbelievable views outside, around sunrise. Rolling hills, cattle on the pastures and the ocean beyond. This is pure, unfiltered, natural bliss --- with some unforgettable flora and fauna. We cooked breakfast and dinner in the cottage and had lunch outside in one of the cafes around the area. Mark gave us some dvd's for our children and also showed us around the garden. Our kids, aged 6 and 3, had fun cutting flowers around the property to make a bouquet and Mark even let us cut some herbs and zucchini for our meals. Their pet dog Hannah is also very friendly and well-behaved. Johanna beach is a nice secluded spot about a 5 minutes drive away, however the sea is quite rough if you want to swim. We also spotted one kangaroo near there. The Boomerangs are a good resting place to explore the area, such as the waterfalls, 12 Apostles and other natural wonders within an hour's drive. The spa bath is also a relaxing experience after a day of exploring --- our kids did not want to get out of their bubble bath! The wi-fi signal is a little slow, but we had our own Telstra data plan that worked great (not sure if other mobile carriers work or not, but Telstra had a very strong signal) Also, this is rural Victoria, so not much in the way of gas stations (or petrol pumps as they are called in Australia) or grocery stores. So do your research to find a Coles or Woolworths and bring groceries with you --- plus, it is fun cooking with the incredible views. Overall, a very pleasant and refreshing stay.

    Nauman2015-02-14T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful view. Very relaxing. Mark and Roz were perfect hosts

    Seth2015-01-15T00:00:00Z
  • Had an absolutely great time at Boomerangs. The place is impeccable, super clean, with everything you may need, from the A/C and fireplace, to a cozy electric blanket! Mark & Roz are super nice and friendly, and you find lots of useful tips in your chalet. The place is beautiful and you get to pick some plums for a snack right from the orchard!

    Lizandra2016-02-08T00:00:00Z
  • We had some lovely views and the property was cosy and warm. Location is great as we wanted a secluded place and boomerangs was perfect.

Johanna Green is located on the Great Ocean Road, 5km from Johanna Beach. Set on 12 acres of green hills and gum trees, the beautifully landscaped gardens provide many spots to just sit and relax or play with the kids and dog
  • Johanna Green is a big, very well appointed, clean house. The rear of the home has a fantastic large verandah overlooking the scenic hills and valleys of the Otway Ranges. The house is set in a pleasant garden, and while there is a bit of traffic on the Great Ocean Road it is still a great spot, only 5mins drive from Johanna Beach. Joy and Liam were very helpful and easy to contact. A perfect place for weekend away.

  • It was a beautiful country style home. Spacious rooms, thoughtfully equipped and very clean. Heaps of clean towels were provided. The view of hills and cattles as well as sunset in front of house was very enjoyable too. Special thanks for finding my partner's rolex watch which he left at bathroom and brought back to us in Apolo bay. We were very appreciated.

  • We had a lovely and comfortable stay in this spacious well located bluestone house. We were extremely impressed by how tidy and scenic it was, with a luxuriously large kitchen and lovely open lounge room with a fireplace overlooking the rolling hills and trees.

    Lucy2017-06-12T00:00:00Z
  • We picked the property due to its location. It's 30 minutes from Otway Fly, 30 minutes to the Otway Lighthouse, 40 minutes to Apollo Bay, and 1 hour to Twelve Apostles. The property is large and has a beautiful view of the mountains, trees, with a distant view all the way to the ocean on a clear day. We were lucky to have clear days where we can enjoy the sunset from the large deck. We've seen plenty of birds around the property, including Rosellas. Sarah is a thoughtful and considerate host. Everything we could possibly need is available and prepared. The beds and the pillows are nice and comfortable, the kids have trampoline to play with, the kitchen is equipped for meals for 6 people or more, there is washing machine and dryer as well. Little touches like having Nespresso machine with capsules available is appreciated. Thank you Sarah - we enjoyed our stay in your property!

  • Very beautiful and quiet location. So close to the nature. And in the same time so close to all the Great Ocean Road attractions! So many rooms which is important for us as we have 4 childrens (even a trampoline in the garden!). The house is very clean and spacious. And furthermore very well equiped with brand new equipment! Sarah and David are very nice and were very easy to communicate with and very helpful. Definitely we will back here and we recommend the location!

  • This place is absolutely beautiful. We had been a bit worried when we booked the house because it didn't have many reviews yet and as it was our wedding weekend get-away for our families, we really didn't want this to go wrong ;-). But truly, we couldn't choose any better, the house is beautiful, clean and spacious, all equipment look new. Four bedrooms are separated from the living area and kitchen thus all people can find their privacy and quiet spot if they need it. There is a beautiful garden as well. I didn't want to leave after three nights we spent here. Sarah and David are very nice, we haven't met them in person but they were very easy to communicate with and very helpful. Even if I did not mention the bottle of champagne and lovely card waiting for us after our arrival ;-). Thank you for everything!

    Martina2017-01-15T00:00:00Z

  • The sea eagle retreat was located in a perfect location on Cape Otway with the most beautiful views of the ocean. We were surrounded with wildlife that never stopped to amaze us. It had a well equipped kitchen, endless supply of firewood and priceless mattress heaters in every bed of the house. As we were there during winter, the house was colder than expected and disappointingly we were not able to use the pool or spa as the water was not warm enough for which the indoor pool was a drawing card for us picking the place. Amber was a gracious host that replied promptly and accommodated to all our needs and further. Thank you.

  • We had a great little stay at Seaspray cabin! wonderful location. We could see the see from the main room and living room, and we sighted kangaroos in the mountain in front of us. Also a wallaby beside the house! Very clean house, full of little details that you love like having salt, pepper, oil, coffee and tea sachets, milk and cream in the fridge, dishwashing soap, bathroom toiletries, etc. The living room reclining seats are wonderful! Location is excellent: isolated, but close to the great ocean road and to twelve apostles. It's great that you can arrive at any time as the keys are kept in a safe. However, beware that on a very hot night like the one in which we arrived, it's massively full of flies, mosquitoes, etc. Nothing biting though. We hope to come back!!!!

  • Had a wonderful stay at beach view in Johanna. Spectacular location with amazing ocean views. Was a really lovely weekend to wind down and relax... very cold so take warm clothes if going in winter but Vanessa provided plenty of extra blankets. The house was spacious & the bedrooms too. Plenty of activities including walking along beach, through the bush, driving to the 12 apostles, ping pong & a huge selection of movies to choose from. Fantastic stay will come back again just for that view !!!!!

Welcome to The Hill House. The Hill House is a light and airy four bedroom holiday house, set on a big block, on top of the hill at Lavers Hill. It is next door to one of the best cafés on the Great Ocean Road, The Shoppe. This large, sunny house is well designed and has a newly renovated interior. It is the ideal place for a group or family to base a trip to the Great Ocean Road or the Great Ocean Walk. Close to waterfalls, glow worms, beaches and the 12 Apostles.
The Hill House has undergone a full renovation, completed in September 2017, so it feels brand new. The interior has been decorated simply to create the perfect ambience for a holiday home; the bathrooms are fresh and bright and the bedrooms, roomy and comfortable. The Hill House is right in the middle of Lavers Hill, the highest village on The Great Ocean Road. The area is outstanding in its natural beauty, it is quietly buzzing but thankfully well away from the big crowds. Just a kilometre down the road is the beautifully well-kept secret of Melba Gully State Park. Melba Gully has pristine, untouched natural rain-forest by day and the most wonderful glow worms by night. It is worth a trip in the evening where you can use the free BBQs and wait for darkness to see the glow worms shine like out like diamonds. Johanna Beach with its pretty rock pools and spectacular scenery is close, but for a really safe swim in the sea, head to the award winning beaches at Apollo Bay, 45 minutes away. Here you will also find more great cafes, a prizewinning Ice Cream maker, a foreshore market on Saturdays and fresh seafood at the Harbour Co-op. Starting from nearby Beech Forest is the Beechy Rail Trail, this is perfect for cycling or walking safely in a family group, and also in that direction are some of Victoria's most stunning waterfalls; Triplet Falls, Hopetoun Falls and Beauchamp Falls as well as The Otway Fly. Another great place for a visit is The Redwood Forest, known as The Redwoods on Binns Road. Take a picnic and enjoy being among trees of fairytale proportions! There is The Great Ocean Walk in both directions from The Hill House and the shuttle bus runs right past the front gate. The whole walk takes 6 days but it can be done in stages and this house is ideally placed as a base. The iconic Twelve Apostles are just 35 minutes away towards Port Campbell by car and on the way there we can recommended visits to Gibson's Steps for the scenery, Apostle Whey for the cheese and G.O.R.G.E for the chocolate.
Lavers Hill is a village on the highest point of the Great Ocean Road. It has a great pub called Otway Central, a post office/petrol station and a 'surf board strewn' cafe known as The Shoppe. Opposite The Hill House is a candle maker's shop selling beautiful handmade candles and scents. Walks can be taken through the village to pretty forest tracks and there are a multitude of beautiful places to visit that are just a short drive away. Highly recommended are the glow worms at Melba Gully at night and the stars here are just incredible. (We provide torches in the house to go and see the glow worms at night).
  • We had a lovely stay in this well equipped and new house.

  • This is a fantastic place to stay for traveling on the Great Ocean Road. It's definitely a place for couples or those travelling without children which is exactly what we wanted. Virginia was a great host from start to finish.

  • Spent a wonderful night at Virginias beautiful home. Everything was just right, comfortable and homely. Virginia also has a sensational garden

    Erica2017-01-20T00:00:00Z
  • My arrival at Virginia's lovely home was through thick fog and lots of rain and her welcome with a most excellent pot of tea and slab of fruit cake and her attention to helping me get dry was very much appreciated! Sadly, the weather prevented me from seeing the glow worms at Melba Gully (the reason for me staying with Virginia) so I had an early night in the very comfortable bed - again, much appreciated! Breakfast was brilliant and I very much enjoyed sampling the many different home-made jams. I would wholeheartedly recommend staying here!

    Johanna2017-03-21T00:00:00Z
  • Virginia's place is in a lovely quiet, secluded location with easy access to a beautiful little walk in Melba Gully but also really accessible to the other great things to see and do in the Otway National Park and the Great Ocean Road. Everything was as advertised, a good sized private clean room with ensuite and Virginia is very welcoming.

  • Great stay with a beautiful secret garden and spacious yard with lots of plants and even a mini-lake with ducks. Super friendly host prides yummy fruit jams for breakfast. Neat, clean, private bedroom with good view of the yard. Two lovely greyhounds were so well behaved! Would like to bring families back here in the future.

  • We highly recommend Virginia's house in lavers hill. Everything there is eco and Virginia and her husband Bob treat us very well! It's the best airbnb I've ever experienced! If you look for something different, you should definitely visit Virginia's!

  • Virginia & Bob were lovely hosts. The place was exactly as expected, charming and clean. The dogs were friendly and the gardens were gorgeous. The nearby glow worms were a great night time adventure! Thank you for a wonderful stay.

  • We have a nice stay in the Sue's house! Sue is a well-knowledge, kind lady. She tells a story of platypus to my daughter, plays the jump game, introduces farm works to us. and her husband ,Mr. John, a busy man, looks for platypus with us in his farm, shows us their all kinds of cows. And the view of their farm is also beautiful, altogether it is recommended to you, hope we will have a longer stay there in some days!

    Tongyang2017-01-24T00:00:00Z
  • This was a 'last minute' trip organised from Geelong. We couldn't be happier with the place we chose. Both Sue and John were extremely welcoming. The house was extremely clean and relaxing, with 2 large living areas to kick your heels up away from the kitchen area. Sue & John made us feel extremely welcome and our 2 little boys (5 & 2) had a brilliant time as well. They especially loved the little guided tour of the farm, seeing the Cows, Platypus and Waterfalls. The sunrise and 'moonrise' over the hills (from the kitchen table!) were to die for. Definitely recommend.

  • This is an excellent b&b but the description on line doesn't do it justice. The hosts are very accommodating and made our stay a memorable one which we will always remember.

    Raymond2017-01-17T00:00:00Z
  • Sue and John and the most welcoming hosts I have ever experienced. The accommodation is lovely and the farm tour in the morning is not to be missed. We also enjoyed Sue's and John's lovely dinner in the evening with other guests which turned out to be a very fun night. We will be back again and next time bring our family. Great people and great stay.

    Helen2017-03-12T00:00:00Z
  • A comfy place to stay, thanks Sue and John for showing the cow farm :)

  • John and Sue were AMAZING hosts! We stayed for 1 night in the farm house! Wish we could've stayed longer! They are very hospitable and we are looking forward to our return visit! Highly recommended!

    Laura2017-01-27T00:00:00Z
  • Amazing spot to get away from the city and really soak up the country air. Incredible location, highly recommended.

    Cale2016-11-19T00:00:00Z
  • Sue and John were outstanding hosts making sure we were comfortable and adding extra treats, such as a lovely dinner (paid extra) and a tour of their farm property to see the pond with platypuses and the waterfall. We felt completely at home. They are such interesting people. The room was spacious and spotless with a lovely ensuite bathroom. Although it is a bit off the Great Ocean Road, it was well worth the distance to find such a welcoming place. I have to say that after many years using AirBnB, this stay rates in the top 3 that I have experience. A little jewel in the countryside!

  • Selvi was a perfect host with a perfect house. 7 of us stayed for the night in comfort and had wished we were able to stay longer! Selvi has left pretty much all basic provisions making it easy to enjoy everything the house has to offer. We enjoyed a BBQ, wood fire and a game of scrabble in the evening. 100% recommend this place and would happily stay again when in the area.

  • This stay was perfect, Selvi was an amazing host, she left us food provisions and even made a cake for the family for our arrival. The house is immaculately clean, warm and cozy; the kitchen was great for cooking, plenty of bedding and places for our family to sleep and relax. We only stayed one night, but wished we had booked for 3 or more nights, as the house was a perfect place to stay and explore. Thanks Selvi.

    Andrew2015-12-31T00:00:00Z
  • Selvi was an excellent host who went the extra mile to fulfil our needs. We were welcomed with complimentary wine and snacks, and the house was well equipped with coffee, a sizeable DVD collection, board games and a Bluetooth speaker that Selvi purchased for the home. The Bluetooth speaker came in very handy for my teenager son. Selvi also made the trip to deliver us water during the last day of our stay. The location of the house was quite close to popular tourist areas and was a pleasant place to stay overall. Selvi kept us up to date with news such as road blocks and niche tourist destinations which was very helpful. Despite a communication error on our end, we managed to resolve the issue. Overall, Selvi was easy to work with and made our stay enjoyable. Thanks for being a great host. 8D Catherine, Alan, Emily, Lawrence and Phillip

She does dinner & breakfast so you don't have to go out, you can just relax. The place is secluded and is a short walk to a great view of the coast and the Great Ocean walk. A short drive from Apollo Bay, Cape Otway & Lavers Hill. Last but not least, Jodie & Shane are lovely hosts.

Jodie and Shane were wonderful hosts, delivering gorgeous food and providing lots of locals tips to make our stay even more enjoyable. We got decorating ideas from the comfy, stylish rooms! The food is delicious and there is lots to see within a (scenic!) 1/2- 1hr drive in different directions. Don't miss the Melba Gully Glow worms, it is a magical way to spend an evening in this part of the world.

Both Jodie and Shane were super friendly both via communications beforehand and in person - the instructions re finding the place were brilliant and if you do take them up on the offer of dinner, you won't regret it. The food was freshly made, delicious and restaurant quality. I can't eat gluten and Jodie offered me several choices for main and dessert. Similarly, breakfast in the morning was beautiful. The pancakes are a must!

The Otway region offers a multitude of amazing natural wonders and magnificent natural flora. The Great Ocean Walk Retreat is your base to enjoy all that the area has to offer, most without the use of your car! The apartments are located within minutes of Sand Road, the Great Ocean Walk, Castle Cove Beach, the Old Ocean Road, beautiful beaches, tree ferns, forest giants and Bass Strait.
  • Guests should note, there is the necessity to use external stairs to access the kitchen/dining area from the bedrooms.

  • Walker's Lodge was a lovely and relaxing place for my partner and I to get away and disconnect. Bruce and Angie were lovely hosts, full of advice and recommendations on the local breweries, places to eat and visit. We didn't have reception at Walker's Lodge, but we found pockets along the Great Ocean Walk during our time.

  • Bruce is an amazing host! The place is lovely, clean and its ideal to truly disconnect during your holidays. Its centrally located to drive around great ocean road and has a great beach walking distance to see the sunset, also couple minutes drive you can see wild koalas! Bruce personally drove us around his property showing us his sheep farm... I totally recommend this place to stay!

Great weekend escape in the surrounds of Ballarat, leafy outlook and private. Close to the sights and township of Ballarat but far enough away to be peaceful and with a feeling of wilderness.
