Places to stay in Finzean
Braeburn Bothy is a charming, well-appointed, yet traditional Highland cottage accommodating up to 4 people and set in the heart of Royal Deeside. Just above the small village of Finzean, Braeburn Bothy is situated in one of Aberdeenshire's most picturesque and tranquil locations.
Braeburn Bothy is 24 miles from Balmoral, Scottish holiday home to the Royal Family. The Cairngorms National Park boundary is approximately 8 miles from the Bothy. There are numerous golf courses within 25 minutes' drive, including those at Banchory, Aboyne, Ballater and Stonehaven. The Lecht and Glen Shee skiing areas are within very easy reach. The area offers a huge array of walks, ranging from the gentle to mountaineer standard. Cyclists will find there are hundreds of road and mountain/trail routes available close by. Naturally, the area's reputation for country pursuits such as salmon fishing, shooting and stalking is second to none. With reasonable prior notice and depending on availability and season, all of these can be arranged for guests. The wonderful Finzean Farm Shop and café is two fields away from the Bothy. This serves delicious daytime meals and stocks everything from fresh vegetables, Finzean beef and venison to local cheeses, whisky, beer and wine. With reasonable prior notice, daytime dog-sitting can be arranged.
  • We had a fantastic relaxing break at the Bothy. It was a beautiful space to chill out in and we enjoyed every minute.

  • Eoghan's Braeburn Bothy was a safe haven after a mad week of work. Albeit, only a 45 minute drive from Aberdeen, it felt like we were in the depth of the beautiful Scottish Highlands. Imagine "The Holiday", but make it Scottish. We fell asleep to the sound of a crackling fire in the wood stove each night, ate a hearty all organic breakfast at the Finzean Farm Shop just down the road and enjoyed hours of reading and boardgames with local beers in hand. Just bliss! I didn't want to leave!

    Ellie & Mike2020-02-23T00:00:00Z
  • We had a lovely 3 nights stay in Eoghan's bothy. Well prepared and warm for our arrival, set in the refreshing countryside, we loved our holiday here. Eoghan left plenty of tips and tricks for enjoying the area, and would definitely recommend finzean farm shop (short walk away) for breakfast. Wholly recommended, we would definitely book the bothy again, should we return.

  • Fantastic location and has everything you need and more. The wood burning stove makes it very cosy and it's great that it's dog friendly. This was our second trip here and I'm sure it won't be our last.

  • A perfect location to escape to and take a break. It was cosy and spotless. Will definitely be visiting again!

    Emma2020-02-11T00:00:00Z
  • We had a lovely couple of days in Eoghan's little house. It's a beautiful spot, with typically dramatic Scottish winter weather sweeping through the open glen. The house is charming; well insulated with an easy to use woodburner for extra ambience, comfortable sofas, hundreds of books on the wall and a spiral staircase up to the bedroom in the eaves. Directions, communication and information on the local area were all excellent. We hope to be back soon.

    Alex2020-01-27T00:00:00Z
  • A beautiful little home! Eoghan's place was sparkling clean and had everything we needed. Eoghan even left us some essentials- bread, butter, eggs etc. Stunning surroundings and plenty to do near by. We would definitely stay again!!

  • We had an amazing stay at Braeburn Bothy. The accommodation had everything we needed for our stay and the location was perfect.

Light, airy spacious semi-detached cottage was the first to be built in the oldest village in Royal Deeside, Kincardine O’Neil. It's been lovingly refurbished with a warm & welcoming interior, with white walls offset by tasteful furnishings. A spacious kitchen/dining room & L-shaped living room both give way to a lovely south-facing enclosed garden with sitting-out area & lawn. On street parking, oil central heating. 1 pet allowed.
On the ground floor is the living room with patio doors taking you out into the south facing garden. Airy kitchen and dining area including utility room and toilet. Complimentary tea, coffee and sugar along with high chair and children’s dishes & cutlery supplied. Spare room with sofa bed on the ground floor. Upstairs is the bedrooms and bathroom. Bedroom 1 has king size bed, bedroom 2 has 2 single beds which can be made up to a king size bed. As mentioned, Travel Cot is available along with high chair. Pets - 1 dog is allowed and dog blanket and bowl is provided. The cottage is 45 minute drive from Aberdeen / Dyce Airport. There are many great cycle routes all around this area; cycle or walk to the café in Potarch, 2 miles, along a designated route which hugs the majestic River Dee - a magnet for salmon and trout fishing. Excellent walks abound both from the surrounding countryside and two from the village itself, one taking you around the River Dee and the other takes you towards Kincardine Castle. Royal Deeside is famed for sparkling rivers, wooded hillsides and heather clad moors. Ballater is 30 minute drive, where you can head to Loch Muick for a wonderful walk around the loch. Crathie and Braemar 50 minute drive. Within surrounding area there’s some challenging walks up several munros, including Lochnagar, where you may spot deer, ptarmigans and mountain hares, or if you are really lucky, golden eagles. The burn o vat is between Aboyne and Ballater and worth a visit to see the views and waterfall, depending on season.
The local Village Store is great for breakfast rolls or fresh sandwiches made to order. Gem shop which has beautiful jewellery and gifts. Good variety of local walks within the village. Plenty local coffee shops in Aboyne and Banchory, including pubs for lunch or dinner. There’s a large Garden centre called The Raemoir Garden centre with restaurant and cafe in Banchory. Golf courses nearby, Aboyne, Torphins and Banchory. Local supermarkets, Co op in Aboyne or Tesco and Morrison’s in Banchory. Lovely ice cream and chip shop over looking the green in Aboyne. The local Indian restaurant in Aboyne is a favourite with locals, take away also available.
  • Really well presented accommodation, spacious and clean. The stores opposite great for brekkie and packed lunches Chinese takeaway 2 mins away !

  • This was our second stay at The Grove and it was just as great as the first. If there's a better value Airbnb out there I'd be amazed. The house is excellent and superbly kitted out. Lots of nice touches that set it apart from usual holiday let's. Most definitely will stay again when visiting the area.

  • This was a very comfortable and clean home. We really enjoyed our stay.

    Jennifer2020-02-11T00:00:00Z
  • This is a delightful cottage - surprisingly spacious, very clean and warm and excellent equipped. Great location with walks, shops and a decent Chinese take away just across the road.

    David2020-02-02T00:00:00Z
  • The cottage is deceptively large inside and was clean and warm. Suzanne had provided not only a travel cot and highchair for my young children, but there was also plastic cutlery and plates provided which was unexpected and a pleasant surprise. Kincardine O'Neil is pretty quiet but you are only 5 minutes away from the larger Aboyne and we had a very tasty fish supper from the chip shop there!

    Francesca2020-01-27T00:00:00Z
  • We really enjoyed our stay here. The cottage was spotless and Suzanne was a great host with lots of great tips for places to go/things to see.

Close to great views and hikes, quiet and peaceful, this self-contained mini chalet is great for solo or couple adventurers, and those seeking a peaceful retreat. Glamping at its best, its not for the 5-star brigade. Clean + cosy with its own kitchen and bathroom – accessible from outside, adding to a feeling of being in the wild, yet retaining modern comforts you’re sure to enjoy your stay in this one-of-a-kind home. Rentals of one month or more from £495-£895 pcm!
Den of Allachlade (or Den of Marmalade as we like to call it - long story) has been "mine" (Vicki) since 1993 when I was pregnant with my daughter, Jessica. It has morphed through several stages, survived divorce, accommodated therapy, workshops, all sorts of weird and wonderful events and has seen the transformation of many beautiful folk. It really has a special vibe to it, a Scottish twist on a Laurel Canyon type commune! It somehow manages to be family home, therapy center and base for travelers, professional nomads, volunteers, holidaymakers, spiritual seekers... all in one go. Regular guests are my daughter Jessica when she is home from Glasgow, Kacper, provider of scrumptious food, blogger and intrepid digi nomad. Last but not least Felix the cat. And… my fingers are crossed as I write this, a Mummy deer took rest at the bottom of the garden when giving birth in the summer of 2018 and she and the baby are still regular visitors, it is quite lovely to see them so close. As for me, I am an author - 2nd book coming up! Hypnotherapist, NLP-er, etc, etc. I am an active meditator and Sanyasin. I work mostly from home and as little as possible in Aberdeen :) If you would like to join our motley crew, we take paying guests, part paying guests (house-sitters), karmic yogis and woofers, just get in touch! When we are at home, we love to provide therapy and teaching as optional extras go ahead and enquire if you’d like to know more. We do our best to make your stay special without getting in your face - tell us what you need. In the Fairy Penthouse you benefit from being totally detached from the main house and having your own access to the bedroom via the garden. The room has a super comfy double cabin bed and TV. In the nice weather you can lie in bed looking on to the garden and eat dinner on your own wee balcony The shower room and kitchen are downstairs accessed via outside from the drive of the main house. Kitchen has a mini fridge, microwave, 4 plate hob, George Foreman Grill, washing machine (shared with the main house), kettle and toaster. Let me know if you want a table and chairs for outside.
There are river walks a stones throw from the property, and plenty of longer woodland and hill walks and stone circles to see in the area. For the sporty, golf courses abound, and water skiing is about a 5 minute drive away. Alternatively pop along to the new outdoor swimming pool at Stonehaven, a beautiful harbour town along the East coast not far from Dunnotar Castle. In August and September there are several highland games taking place in the area.
  • Nice and cozy apartment, nice hosts, uncomplicated check-in / out.

    Luzelle2019-12-01T00:00:00Z
  • I came here in the middle of November after an impulse booking, and absolutely loved it. It was freezing outside, but the cabin was nice and toasty, had all facilities for showering and cooking, and was very quiet. There are some cute cafes around Aboyne too, and lots of nice walking trails. Very nice for a quick getaway when you need a moment to yourself! Thank you!

    Toni2019-11-17T00:00:00Z
  • Great little place to stay in a very peaceful part of Aboyne. We stayed there for one night as a short stopover and Vicki's place was everything we expected. Very comfy and cosy. 5 minutes walk from the town.

    Murray2019-10-27T00:00:00Z
  • Had a lovely stay at Vicki's place, even though we were only there for a short period of time. It was super clean, well equipped and had literally the comfiest bed I've ever slept in. Also loved all the personal touches.

  • This is a lovely quiet retreat in the garden. The facilities are excellent and everything reflects Vicki’s attention to detail. A warm welcome rounds off a really nice stay. Thanks

An excellent base for exploring Royal Deeside - walking, biking, fishing, canoeing, nature; standing stones, Pictish crosses and castles.

This beautiful self-contained annex has been described as a small hotel. Creatively designed to give its narrow shape a ship like quality it is clean, cosy & close to great views & hikes, offering a peaceful retreat for quiet souls & country lovers. Ideal for 2, with potential to sleep 3 - a couple & child or 3 close friends (the shower is inside the bedroom) & the 3-bed set up inhibits the living space. Kitchen is & fully equipped & there's lots of choice for eating out. Enquire for long term.

We do our best to make your stay special without getting in your face - tell us what you need. In the East Annex you benefit from your personal porch with a small table and chairs which opens into a lovely seating area, which leads into the well-equipped kitchen. There's a lovely sunroom with a window-seat, strewn with comfy cushions and the double bedroom has en-suite shower inside on open plan. The window-seat area can work as a make-up single bedroom, and we can also put up a fold-down bed in the porch seating area or you can use the red chaise lounge, however, we have no window covering there, so a no-no for anyone who needs blackout! Please be aware that the main house will be rented out over Winter to guests also, so please be aware of noise levels so as not to disturb other guests.
Aboyne is a quiet village. Enough so that in the morning it's quite common to see grazing deer in the fields or even in our garden. Have a look at the guide to see the local points of interest (there's way more than in here). It's a great place to come and relax, far away from the hustle and bustle of cities. Aboyne (Scots: Abyne, Scottish Gaelic: Abèidh) is a village on the edge of the Highlands in Aberdeenshire, Scotland, on the River Dee, approximately 26 miles (42 km) west of Aberdeen. It has a swimming pool at Aboyne Academy, all-weather tennis courts, a bowling green and is home to the oldest 18 hole Golf course on Royal Deeside. Aboyne Castle and the Loch of Aboyne are nearby. Outdoor pursuits include golf, walking, cycling, and gliding from the airfield just outside the village. Aboyne has become popular with gliding enthusiasts from Britain and Europe due to its suitable air currents (due to the surrounding terrain). The airfield has two parallel tarmac runways running east-west, a webcam and small weather-monitoring centre on its premises.
  • Great location; very nice and helpful host: great and clean accommodation.

  • Vicki is a warm and welcoming host and will give you local tips for things like places to eat if needed. The accommodation is the perfect size for two and has all the facilities that you could need! Thanks for a lovely stay!

  • A very good value stay in Aboyne. We slept two adults comfortably, one on the double bed and one on the couch with a mattress in the front room.

    Howard2019-10-20T00:00:00Z
  • Hospitable host, quiet and private annex to the host's house. The host is welcoming and has a set of strict houserules that work very well to make everyone's life easy. The sitting area of the annex has a window to the host's lounge, so that area is not completely private. Be aware that the host occasionally needs access to use the washing machine in the annex. Good value for money for a stay in Aboyne.

    Joris2019-10-05T00:00:00Z
  • Amazing place, cosy and lovely perfect for solo travelers exploring around Aberdeenshire nice places from castles and Lochs. Vicki is amazing host and her place super cool. To all my friends and those who like to visit Aboyne and discover tremendous places in Aberdeenshire, Vicki’s place is highly recommended.

  • We had everything we needed and felt right at home. We were unsure about getting around by public transport, so we were pleasantly surprised to find the bus stops right out front! Some walks nearby would be easier to access by car, but we found plenty to explore. We would absolutely recommend staying here.

    Lydia2019-09-09T00:00:00Z
  • We stayed overnight for a wedding. The east annex is a lovely little space. Everything you could want and we’ll thought out. Vicki is a warm and welcoming host.

  • The small appartment next to Vicki’s house was exactly what we expected : clean, cosy and comfy ! Vicki was very helpful and she even made a table appear just like magic. Perfect to explore this side of Cairngorms !

  • Easy to find and get into Elaine left the heating on which made for a cost first night. Perfect proportion for a night away for two. Great communication. We would love to come back again soon especially to see the horse and pony again.

  • Elaine was wonderfully helpful and communicative throughout the booking process. She thoughtful left lights on for us as we were arriving late and worked around our schedule. All round a five star stay.

Beautiful surroundings and spotlessly clean exactly like the photos! Really hope to come back sometime, our first time using Air BNB certainly didn’t disappoint.

  • This was my first experience of Airbnb so admit to being a little hesitant before hand. For my first booking I believe I would struggle to get any better! Me and my family had a great few days to chill after a hectic festive period. The lodge has everything you would need and more! No phone signal but the WiFi was excellent and we had no problems with this. The lodge was very clean and hot tub was fantastic! We are already looking at the availability calendar for dates throughout the year to return! Thank you for a great few days away! X

Whitehill is a studio apartment, situated in Finzean and boasts stunning views of the hills across the valley. We are in a great location in the heart of Royal Deeside so our guests can explore all the local countryside has to offer.
There are some steps/stairs leading up to the aparment. It is not suitable for wheelchairs and may also be difficult for those with mobility restrictions.
  • Luke and Kerry are very fantastic hosts. The pack provides very useful information and helps you plan. Milk, bread, butter, cornflakes we were not expecting. Moreover, the place gives huge space which allows you to relax easily. At the same time it's very private. Loved our stay and when we visit highlands again, Luke and Kerry would be one of our preferences.

    Rahaman2019-12-28T00:00:00Z
  • This accommodation was excellent. Everything was available in the kitchen area should you want to cook. Lots of hot water for washing dishes and showering. The place was immaculately clean. The king size bed was very comfy. The place was nice and warm too. Luke & Kerry were very helpful and kind, even brought us supplies of bread, milk and biscuits on our arrival. There’s a few nice walks literally on the doorstep, we walked across the road and walked for approx an hour round the Finzean Farm Estate, calling in at the farm shop on the way back. Couldn’t fault a thing, would thoroughly recommend this accommodation 100%.

One of the best views you will find on Royal Deeside. Walk into the welcoming kitchen with its dining table for up to 12, the room opens up to an oak floored salon & family room looking on to the fields and valley beyond. Through the patio doors there is a huge area of decking where you can enjoy nature at its best, while turning the BBQ and enjoy your evening G+T. The 2nd public room with office facilities & a comfy bed settee & the master bedroom with patio doors are also south- facing.
The views from this home are unblocked and unrivalled. Hay fields with regular visiting deer and pheasants lead to the River Dee and the hills beyond. The decking area is a superb entertaining space and the garden has a newly built, fairy lit, pergola area to enjoy a fire and a drink in the evening. The main house also has 3 additional self contained units available separately if required for larger group bookings, one which is accessible via a locked door directly from the house please ask for availability.
  • Vicki’s place has stunning views and a very special ‘ambience’. It was spacious and light but also warm and cosy. We found everything we needed, the place was very clean and we had a great holiday in Aboyne. Food at The Boat is recommended!

You will be surrounded by beautiful countryside, walks and cycle trails, as well as a great range of eating places and coffee shops. For those of you with children, please be aware that there is no designated play area on site. However there is a nice play park ten minutes away in Banchory and a couple of smaller ones nearby.... but not in walking distance. The village of Banchory is about a ten minute drive. It is a bustling village with shops to browse in as well as a Tesco, Morrison’s and Co-op. Lots to see and do in the area. Lots of choice when it comes to eating out.
  • We loved our time in Irene's cabin! Communication with Irene was extremely easy and fast, she welcomed with a warm lodge and the hot tub ready to be enjoyed! The place is big, comfortable and very well kept. Everything was very clean and we found all we needed in the kitchen. The location is also great for walks and enjoying the Deeside. Thanks!!

  • Ideal lodge for some peace and quiet with friends. The lodge is set on a farm with approx 1 dozen other lodges, breath taking views, spacious, good showers, big kitchen and all the required utensils for cooking breakfasts and dinners etc Hot tub is very warm! Fantastic on a cold winters night.

    Jamie2019-11-18T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful modern lodge with all required amenities for comfortable living. Very clean and has use of linen also. Hot tub is an extra bonus and is a great spot for star gazing on a clear night. Also well situated for travelling around the local areas with plenty to see and do all within 15-30 min driving times. Will definitely stay again if we’re visiting the area. Thank you

Glencommon is a quintessential basic farm cottage, just outside Banchory, overlooking the Dee valley. The cottage has two spacious double bedrooms and a family bathroom on the first floor. Downstairs there is a cosy living room with a wood burning stove, a kitchen and a second bathroom with shower. The cottage has a lovely view over the valley and Scolty Hill, a local landmark. The area is a popular location for road cycling, mountain biking, hill walking, kayaking, fishing and playing golf.
Glencommon was our main home before we built a contemporary house close by the old cottage. It is an old farm that can be found on Ordnance Survey maps of the mid 1800’s. The cottage is still mostly in it’s traditional basic style. Cooking and central heating of the property is done by an Aga style stove which is located in the main kitchen. The second kitchen has recently been updated and has a washing machine, a dishwasher and an electric cooker. Both bathrooms have also been updated. Both bedrooms and bathrooms have central heating. A walled garden surrounds the cottage. There are two more mattresses in the cottage which can be used for additional guests. The cottage has two good size double bedrooms. If you would need more space we also have the stable for rent (£45.-). The stable can be found on Airbnb too. From the house various castles, amongst which Balmoral Castle, whiskey trails and the Cairngorms national park can be visited. Glencommon cottage and garden is fully available for guests during their stay. The property offers ample room to clean, dry and safely store outdoor equipment.
The cottage is in a rural area. The inchmarlo golf course and the river Dee are closed by. Dogs can be walked from the house.
  • Glencommon cottage is a terrific property set within a farm. The facilities are very good and its pretty spacious for a family group. Its very quiet and the beds are very comfortable. Nicely located to Banchory which is a nice little town with some great eateries. Its good to have the hosts living next door and they are very helpful and hospitable. For navigation make sure you set Glencommon Farm Cottage on Google maps.

  • Glencommon Farm it's really a beautiful place to stay, much much more beautiful than what you could expect from the pictures! It's peaceful and quite, rural but with all the comforts you might need and perfectly clean, and the view from the cottage it's wonderful. The kitchen is fully equipped and the cottage it's tastefully furnished. We had a great time in the cottage and we really hope to come back!

  • We had a really lovely stay at Glencommon Farm. The cottage was very welcoming, clean, and well stocked with the basics. The beds were comfortable and the wood burner gave a nice atmosphere in the living room. The location was perfect for our planned activities and offered easy access to Banchory for anything we needed. Chicken watching was most entertaining and the views across the valley are stunning. We highly recommend this property!

Cute & quirky self-contained studio offering a peaceful retreat close to great hikes. It has a comfy double and the floor space is tiny with only 2 chairs at the table inside. The wet room is small & kitchen facilities basic but idyllically beautiful, quiet & peaceful. t really depends on what you want, but there are few places this serene and peaceful and with your own area of decking and outdoor dining. You are also welcome to enjoy my garden.
Regular guests are my daughter Jessica when she is home from Glasgow, Kacper, provider of scrumptious food, blogger and intrepid digi nomad, and… my fingers are crossed as I write this, a Mummy deer took rest at the bottom of the garden when giving birth in the summer of 2018 and she and the baby are still regular visitors, it is quite lovely to see them so close. In the Garden Studio you benefit from being the most southerly facing room giving you a feeling of total detachment with only the hills to look back at you. You have your own access via the garden. The room has a super comfy double cabin bed and TV. In the nice weather you can lie in bed looking out and eat dinner on your own area of decking. The wet room is very small but sufficient as a basic shower and toilet and kitchenette just manages to squeeze everything in that you need to cook a proper meal.
  • We had a lovely stay in the little garden studio. it was perfect for our weekend away and had all we needed. the view into the cairngorms is lovely, and there was many nice walks nearby - we would recommend the standing stone circle, burn o vat, and glen tanar national park. there is also an earth house nearby from the bronze age that you can drive to and walk into. We were a little under-whelmed by the local leaflets of things to do nearby provided in the studio - the leaflets were all quite old and also of things that were far north, we ended up adding our own found in a local pub. The spider on a bicycle cafe was nice, as was at 'the sign of the black face sheep'. The extra duvet was needed at night as it was freezing, and even during the day in the studio we had to wear layers of jumpers and scarves to keep warm. "

  • The Garden studio was a lovely, comfortable, peaceful place to stay for the night, I loved the style of the cabin studio, the terrace and the view. It was just great to pull back the curtains in the morning (after a very good rest) and let the light flood in and see the fields and forested hills. It was a tight space, but that was clear on the description and I found it very cosy. I would definitely come back and stay for more than a night :)

  • Exceptional Airbnb. It really is as beautiful as the pictures with all the little finishing touches that makes a stay so special (including scones and tea cakes on arrival!!!) The place is only a short walk into Aboyne and the Boat Inn. There is also a few lovely walks including our favorite which followed the nearby river. You won’t be disappointed staying here. Greenlands is a converted, traditional, farm steading built from local granite. This cosy property is set in a tranquil position surrounded by lush trees and fields and is located on the south side of the estate, near the River Dee. It has been tastefully decorated and furnished to a high standard and is an ideal base for touring Aberdeenshire. It is also within walking distance of Potarch Cafe and Restaurant.
  • We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this charming cottage and estate. We simply wished we had more time! My family loved walking along the path (picking raspberries and brambles along the way) to the Potarch Hotel for ice cream and a play in the sand pit as well as wonderful meals. Was great to be able to wander down to the bank of the Dee and throw stones and play in the green. The cottage was appointed perfectly and was so comfortable and bright. The wildflower meadow out front was a delight! We would stay again in a heartbeat. Thanks for making this special place available.

  • This two bed cottage is beautiful appointed, we had a fabulous stay! The secluded location is beautiful - seeing deer in the garden was a highlight, as was being able to access the river Dee quickly. The beds were super comfortable. The kitchen was well stocked and had everything needed to cook a meal and eat in. The cottage was also very clean upon arrival and the welcome basket a lovely treat. Would highly recommend The Greenlands if visiting Aberdeenshire.

  • Lovely cottage for 3 couples. Well situated to get away from everything but still driving distance to many attractions. The place had many books and activities to do if the weather is not good. Will be coming back soon!

  • Fantastic cottage on the Ballogie Estate. A little tricky to find from the map, but worth the wait. Beautifully furnished, with a lovely bright lounge overlooking a small garden. Great views across the hills and a short drive to both Banchory and Aboyne. Modern bathrooms and comfortable bedrooms. We enjoyed our stay and were lucky enough to see deer on the drive to the cottage from the main road.
