Hawaiian Paradise Park Holiday Rentals

Just booked in Hawaiian Paradise Park

Red cinder leads you through the dense jungle to your secluded bamboo treehouse. Nestled on top of stilts 15' up in the canopy of the local flora, ascend to your retreat via the trapdoor or begin your adventure in Volcano National Park 10 miles away.
Upon arrival, let the red cinder path be your yellow brick road as you are lead through the jungle to your personal paradise. At ground level you will encounter a hanging bed, suspended beneath the floor of your new living quarters. Stop and relax or continue up the staircase to the trapdoor. It is through this trapdoor that you are allowed access to the lanai amongst the canopy of trees. A beautiful wrap around lanai allows for a 360 degree view of the lush jungle, while two sliding glass doors grant access to the bedroom. Upon entering, you will notice that the generous windows and doors allow for natural sunlight to flood into the house, complementing the bamboo fixtures and vintage 1970s wallpaper that backs the bed. The white bed linens reflect the light giving a dreamy, cloud-like aura to the space. There is counter stocked with a local coffee and snacks nestled into a corner of the house and overlooked by the handcrafted porthole windows. Bamboo backed cubby holes and hangers furnish the wall behind you and create an elegant, minimalist closet space for you to store your personal items for the duration of your stay. Just past the closet is a sliding door that accesses one of the most fun areas of the house: the bathroom. The bathroom jalousie windows stretch from the floor to the ceiling and the horizontal glass plates open up, creating an indoor-outdoor effect. Naturally caught rainwater cascades from the large shower head above before disappearing into the floor boards below. You'll notice that the natural theme spills over into the bathroom with sustainable cork board backing the shower and air plants intermittently growing throughout. The toilet and hand-made rock sink in the corner make use of grey water eco-principles by allowing you to wash your hands with fresh water before it goes on to fill the bowl. One of the most fun aspects of this property is that it allows you the opportunity to experience true off-grid living without sacrificing any of the comforts of normal life. Natural lighting, solar power and rain water catchment are the three principles that have been integrated into this tree top design, making it almost like a living organism itself. The beauty of this high flying haven is in the details. I spent the better part of three months personally constructing the building as well as the accessories inside. My goal was to create a customized and secluded space for your occasion. The chandelier, hanging lights, port-hole windows, rock sink and platform bed were all DIY projects that I specifically created to enhance your experience. The bamboo pillars that 'support' the lanai and the moss carpet under the hanging bed were harvested from local areas on the Big Island. IMPORTANT CONSIDERATIONS BEFORE MAKING A RESERVATION Don't worry, the capital letters are just to emphasize importance. I'm not mad at you. But please read this entire section before making a reservation. As lush and inviting as the Dreamy Tropical Treehouse is, there are inevitable 'challenges' that come with staying in an off-grid treehouse in the Hawaiian jungle. My goal is give you an experience that combines adventure and luxury so I want to make sure that you are aware of the following things: 1. The treehouse is about 15-feet off the ground and is only accessible by the 'ladder-stairs'. 'Ladder-stairs' is just another way of saying 'very steep' stairs. There is a hand railing and none of my visitors have ever had a problem going up and down. There is a pulley system for hoisting up your bags. Only those who believe they are physically capable should book a stay. Just remember to go up and down facing them... like a ladder! 2. The running water comes from the rain falling on the roof and is not treated; therefore, the water is not potable. I will provide several bottles of drinking water. 3. The electricity you use is generated by sunlight and is stored in a battery. Once the battery runs out of power it has to recharge. This shouldn’t happen but just be mindful not to leave lights or power hungry items running for extended periods of time (No hairdryers). The windows allow for plenty of light during the day. 4. This is the rainy side of the Big Island so expect some showers! Realize that the pitter-patter on the roof is the rain's first stop on its journey to the water tanks and then to your shower. Also notice how warm it is. Don't think of rain as a trip ruiner but instead an asset to be enjoyed! 5. There are bugs but this isn't the Amazon. For such a tropical climate you will be surprised at how few bugs there are. The main things you will see are moths, fruit flies (due to fruit falling off of the trees) and mosquitoes. Bug repellent is provided but it never hurts to bring your own. They really don't get that bad but their presence increases after a hard rain and during the twilight hours. Luckily, the hanging bed has mosquito netting that drapes down to encompass it. 6. Noises. Living off-grid in the jungle also brings about its own set of noises. The water pump and solar inverter will make soft noises throughout the day as they are used. The falling fruit from the vivie trees can also be alarming if you don't know what it is, and at night you are going to be serenaded by the sweet chirping of coqui frogs. Rustling branches, grunts and squeals typically means that the cute family of wild pigs is nearby. They are harmless and will runoff as soon as they sense your presence. Quietly grab the binoculars and, if you are lucky, may catch a glimpse of them! All of these aspects are what makes this place so unique and, with the right mindset, only enhance your overall experience. Guests have free range to fully utilize every aspect of the house. The hanging bed, wrap-around porch, indoor-outdoor shower and closet are at your full disposal. I have recently installed a kitchenette that has a sink, cooler for storing food/drinks, and a coffee maker (also capable of heating up water). Any and all goodies stocked in the house are there for your enjoyment. Here is a more comprehensive list of amenities and features that will be available to you: •Indoor/Outdoor Shower •Toilet with Overlaid Sink •Organic Shampoo/Conditioner •Towels •Ample Parking •Tiki Torch ‘Flashlights’ •Hanging Bed •Table and Chairs for Lanai •Binoculars •Several Books •Outlets (3-prong and USB) •Kitchen Sink •Coffee Maker •Clean Linens •Gramophone Music Player for iPhones •Cooler for Food/Drink •Card Game Guest interaction can be tailored to your needs. My goal is to make sure your stay is unforgettable so you can always contact me via phone or email. Because I do not live on the island year round, a local neighbor can assist you if you have any problems that need tending to. Upon your arrival I can arrange to have someone greet you and show you the property or simply stow away the key for your convenience. The choice, of course, is yours. Even though I am not on site, I can always be reached. Feel free to call/text/email me at any time during your stay should the unlikely event that a problem arises. I will immediately contact the proper authority to have the problem remedied. The treehouse is located at the end of a neighborhood street making it very private. It is set about 50 yards off the street behind a windy, jungle path further adding to your privacy. There are only about five full time neighbors scattered throughout the neighborhood so don't expect to see a lot of people. The treehouse is about 20 miles from Hilo, 23 miles from Pahoa, 12 miles from Keaau and 8 miles from Volcano. Volcano is the closest place for laundry, good restaurants and groceries, though you will pay a little more for the groceries than in Hilo or Keaau. I recommend you stop on your way in from Hilo. When you book I will include a guidebook that has the locations, hours and prices of local restaurants and grocery stores. There is quick access to highway 11 and it is 10 miles from Volcanoes National Park. Numerous opportunities for sightseeing and adventures are within a 40 minute drive of this treehouse paradise and they will be included in my guest guidebook as well. This is the ultimate spot for couples seeking romantic seclusion in the middle of a tropical jungle or individuals who want to escape the world. Unless you feel like hitchhiking, you will definitely need a rental car to comfortably explore the surrounding areas and access the treehouse. While nothing is 'far' on the big island, everything is just a bit out of reach by foot... except of course for those lovely, yet dense, jungle strolls. • The tree house is a great spot! Kristie has done a great job of creating and decorating the place, and it's very private, peaceful, and comfortable. I definitely recommend. Mark

  • What an amazing, relaxing, inspiring place...we stayed in 3 places during our 10 days on the island and nothing was as impressive as this one. Why? It's the care that went into this place coupled with fit and finish, 20ft in a tree feeling the breeze, hearing the rain and feeling above it all!

    Scott2015-08-23T00:00:00Z
  • The treehouse was easy to find, even though the house is a bit off the grid and it is a bit unusual than most of the airbnb house we've stayed, it is very easy to find our way to check in. Kristie replies my message very promptly.

    Jason2015-12-01T00:00:00Z
  • Very well designed treehouse! I was so impressed! Every detail has been considered in this place. Arriving late was no problem, everything was fairly easy to figure out. The shower was a little tricky so best to watch the YouTube video and read the book. Also, didn't quite realize there was a way to pull the luggage up ... Very handy once I figured that out! Loved staying here, was amazing to wake up in the forest In such a thoughtfully designed place.

  • The most amazing airbnb experience I have ever had. The tree house is exactly what you see in the pictures. The treehouse has anything you will need during your stay. We had a great night there. It is very quiet along the night, and both my boyfriend and I had a good sleep. The hot water for showering is a little bit tricky. Other than that, I will strongly recommend staying in this tree house.

  • We had a wonderful, unique, adventurous, and romantic experience at Kristie's amazing treehouse! It was like nothing we had experienced before. This is the real deal - a cozy, classy, clean, and beautifully-appointed living space surrounded by a real island jungle. It's all in the details here - from the walkway to the windows, the tiki torches to the toilet tank. It all comes together to deliver a full experience from dusk till dawn. We woke up to the sun peeking through the trees, and slept to the sounds of the frogs and the rain. Be ready for fishbowl living - including the shower! But with no one around but nature, we soon learned to love the openness. My wife and I enjoyed watching movies at night (BYOiPad), visited the nearby volcano park, and star gazed on Mauna Kea. The treehouse is comfortable for a few days - it's a bedroom, bathroom, and tiny kitchen after all. Ladies, you may need to get creative with your hair drying. You may start to get a little homesick after a few days since this is not your average vacation rental - but that's the point. From communications to amenities, the treehouse delivered on what it promised in every way.

  • Kristie made sure we had EVERYTHING we needed to know about the tree house well ahead of time - videos, details about the house, her contact information - and it was even better than described. It was the best place we stayed on our trip for charm, privacy, functionality and uniqueness. The tree house is such a fantastic place to stay, we would do it again in a minute. The road to get in is paved, but definately rough. We had no problems with our little sedan. There is a counter/sink area (cute) with paper plates and a good knife provided, but since there's not means to do any real cooking, plan your food ahead. It's also a trip to get groceries, so load up in Hilo. Did you notice it has a trap door, hanging bed, wonderful mattress and a pully for raising up your baggage? So worth it.

  • Staying at Kristie's Dreamy Treehouse on the Big Island was a highlight of my Hawaiian trip. I wish we could've stayed longer but it books up quickly! Kristie was extremely quick at responding to our needs and also provided a fantastic guidebook to help with our experiences. Nestled in a secluded patch of rainforest, the treehouse felt like our own private getaway. The steep set of stairs leading up to the house made me feel like a kid again, climbing trees. The decor was amazing and the bed was very comfy. It's also within a reasonable driving distance to Hilo and Volcano National Park. I would recommend this treehouse to anyone!

  • My stay was for 2 nights. She is located about equal distance between Pahoa and Hilo so easy to get anywhere. Bed is comfortable and room is clean. Beautiful scenary with fruit trees and chickens. The frogs are not that bad. I slept like a baby. She has a very friendly dog who likes to play catch. I came in after 9pm but the room was ready for me and her place was easy to find just follow the directions. Overall great experience for my first Airbnb!

    Nikki2017-01-07T00:00:00Z
  • She gave us a tour of her property and told us about her garden and fruit trees. She was very friendly.

    Greg2017-06-13T00:00:00Z
  • Nice and special place, very relaxing atmosphere. Check in and out was flexible and easy. The host was kind and the communication was very fast. Good value for the low price!! I truly recommend this place!

  • Comfortable room in a beautiful setting. Very quiet location surrounded by trees. Lots of things to do nearby ans we wish wehad more time to stay. Check-in was very easy especially because we arrived after 10pm.

    Daniel (and Molly)2017-05-09T00:00:00Z
  • Access from a separate outside door was nice. The bed was comfy. The dog was sooo sweet. The wildlife is very loud there, bring heavy duty earplugs. There was a sign on the toilet that said not to flush it at night due to its noise that made me feel weird...I sure wouldn't want to walk in on an Unflushed toilet in a shared bathroom, so that made me uncomfortable, but aside from that, it was a fine place to just sleep and leave from. We never saw the host, but we arrived late and left early.

  • All good: room and bathroom were clean, bed was very comfty, good communication with the host, flexible check in, wifi works.

  • This place is a hidden gem. We arrived later then usual at around 7pm instead of the 3pm check in. Mark had the keys ready for us to just move all our stuff in. My girl is high maintenance so when I booked this place she was real iffy. She fell in love with it instantly especially the shower. Place was sparking clean and the ac blew cold. Mark was there If we needed but was real respectful of our space and we only saw him when we needed to. The power went out one night when we weren’t home and he had lamps and flashlights ready for us to use! I can’t recommend this place enough especially for that price. Thanks again Mark your place is phenomenal!

    Juan2017-10-31T00:00:00Z
  • Great, quiet place close to Hawaii Volcanoes National Park - around 40 minute drive. Close driving to other places like the famous black sand beaches (just over an hour). The room is comfortable and clean with your own bathroom and lovely garden surrounds. Mark is very accommodating. Highly recommended to stay here if you want to explore the volcano area.

    Thu2017-09-02T00:00:00Z
  • This place is cozy, clean, good value, and close to the cute village of Pahoa. Mark provided a binder with local trips that we enjoyed using. We were impressed! It's a small space but everything a couple could need. Very quiet and comfy.

  • The ad says "Luxury" and the true is Mark wasn't kidding about that. Everything is brand new, excellent decoration, own kitchen, a/c, tv, wifi, a lot of lights and so comfortable bed. On the night table a book with the main places to visit in the island... It was the best place, best price in the whole island so far. Mark was very helpful and answered my texts very fast. I loved staying there!

    Kristel2017-07-27T00:00:00Z
  • This place was way better than what we expected, and for the price, it's definitely a steal! The place is clean, bed is supersoft, shower was nice. Everything was great for what you pay. Location is 30 mins away from the lava viewing (by kalapana) and 40 mins from hawaii volcano national park, 3O mins to hilo. Shelley is a great host, she messaged us all throughout and was very accomodating with our late check in. She even gave us a list of recommendations of things to do around the area. We'd definitely stay here again.

    Francesca2017-06-17T00:00:00Z
  • I really enjoyed our stay. The location is beautiful and clean. Everything is perfect. Thank you Shirley!

  • Mark was a fantastic host. He was very communicative and responsive from the time of the reservation all the way until check out. His place is very clean and comfortable. It had all of the amenities we needed for our 2 night stay on the Big Island. It’s a 25 minutes drive from Hilo but a pretty easy drive. Would highly recommend this to anyone wanting something a little different from the touristy hotels.

  • Thank you for letting us stay in your paradise getaway. Your guest guide was very helpful in our decision making, i.e. Kapoho tidepools. A lovely property, peaceful, and not too far from Hilo.

  • When we arrived, Heather was there to great us into her house. She was really welcoming and overall a great host. She provided us with tips on what to do and even lent us an umbrella on a rainy day. The house was neat, clean and the bedroom was comfortable. The house is a bit in a remote area so we needed to drive up to Hilo to eat out and such. Overall, we had a great experience at Heather's place

  • Heather's airbnb is extremly clean, comfy and beautiful :) Heather is a really friendly openminded person and gave us a lot of Great recommendations on where to go and what to do. She has the cutest pets and the surrounding is just stunning! One of the beste airbnbs we stayed at so far :)

    Julia2016-07-13T00:00:00Z
  • Our stay here was excellent. One of the best AirBnB experiences thus far, actually. Heather and her son were incredibly accommodating and sweet, and I cannot recommend her highly enough. We shared several meals together, and she had many helpful recommendations for making our way around the island and sightseeing. The location is quiet and semi-rural; having a car is helpful in this area. It was easy to feel at home in Heather's abode.

  • Great location and very good setting. Heather is a super nice host and was very accommodating. Very close to the volcano and minutes away from Hilo. We really enjoyed our stay and interaction with Heather.

  • It was a great stay, perfect for going to the volcano national park. The room was exactly as in the picture and very clean. Heather was very helpful with her suggestions and gave us some great tips for eating out in Hilo.

  • We stayed with Heather for a week, and found her beautiful home to be even more charming than the photos. Everything was above & beyond the basic listed amenities. Heather was a perfect host- loaning us her snorkeling gear, offering us unique island fruits to try, & giving us tips on some incredible local places to visit. Her home is located in such a beautiful, lush area- and yet it's still a relatively short drive to so many scenic areas & shopping centers. We loved our stay here & would definitely recommend it to anyone!

    Laila2016-08-31T00:00:00Z
  • Heather and Christ are very nice and knowledgeable. They gave us many suggestions and comments about the beautiful spots around Hilo and the Big Island. My Dad and I really enjoy staying in the place. I myself love the Paradise Dr. where we felt like going to a roller coaster every time we drove back home, lol.

Sometimes in this crazy world you need to unplug and just relax! Well the Cottage provides a place to do just that. At night you go the bed to the songs of the coqui frogs and you wake up to birds singing. This house was built in 2007 but was seldom used. It's light and airy and truly just a happy, positive place. Staying here you really get to feel like you are apart of this magical Island. This is truly a unique adventure and it may not be for everyone. You may find some bugs and a gecko or two on the wall when you walk into the house. But this is a part of staying in the Hawaiian jungle, there is no way around it. You just never know what you're going to find and that's what makes Mother Nature so amazing! What you will find is a nice comfortable queen sized bed with clean sheets and a clean bathroom with a large shower and a jacuzzi tub. Bath towels, shower gel, and shampoo and conditioner are also provided. The kitchen has only been used a handful of times and comes fully stocked with pots and pans and plates as well as cutlery. Just recently the whole house has been refurnished with beautiful Hawaiian style furniture that was refurbished by local artists who appreciate the the importance of preserving the beauty of each piece as close to its original glory. The house sits on a large corner lot that provides easy access to the ocean, which is 8 blocks away and to the main roads that will take you into Hilo and to Volcano Park. You will also have beach towels and umbrellas for those afternoon showers.
I love the Aloha spirit of my neighborhood. When you sit out front and people drive by they will wave to you and some may stop to say hello. It's a special feeling that's for sure!
  • Great getaway close to friends in same area loved the bath tub and cooked all meals at the cottage has a full size fridge.. private but heavy traffic in the morning and evenings on the cross street

The Bungalow is situated on a 1 3/4 acre of jungle in rural East Hawaii. We are located between Hilo and Pahoa and close to whale watching, perfect for long walks along the cliffs at Kaloli point and for listening to the Hawaiian birds singing.
The Bungalow has a covered Lanai for enjoying the outdoors and looks out to a Banana grove. There is a small refrigerator, microwave and coffee maker with tea, sugar and coffee for the guests to use. The bedroom is large and the on suite bathroom has a tiled shower with a window where you can view nature while you shower. Every window has a view of the jungle outside and the bedroom has a large closet and a queen bed. You can lie on the bed and look out the French doors onto your private lanai.
The neighborhood is quiet and very green with palms, flowers and no traffic or traffic lights.
  • Diana was very communicative before we arrived and greeted us when we checked in. The location is in the rural area and we were definitely glad to find it during the daytime. Diana went out of her way to provide extra toiletries for us after our baggage was delayed. The fresh fruit and water was also appreciated! The location is off the beaten path but great for relaxing - you can hear the birds and enjoy the tranquility of the space. There is another single unit on the property but no one was there while we stayed and there seems to be enough privacy if they did. The location is a bit further from Hilo but easy to access and a good starting point for the volcano park and 61g east access viewing. Overall we were very happy with our stay! Thank you!

  • Couldn't imagine a better setting for my boyfriend to propose to me! Lovely, quiet and very romantic place. It felt like we are in the middle of the jungle! Only 10 minute drive from the main town Hilo with many restaurants. Highly recommend!

  • To get to this Airbnb, we initially followed our gps by typing in 15 railroad ave, which was a mistake. Definitely use the written instructions provided by Diana to get to the accommodations. It makes things much easier, especially after sunset. We were very impressed with the accommodations. Everything is brand new. It was very clean and they even provided chocolates for Valentine's Day. A nice thoughtful touch. They also provided fruit and water, along with brochures for local attractions. When we first walked in, I was worried because it was quite humid, but after opening the windows and turning the fan on, it cooled right down. The only minor issue I had was that the metal bed frame was creaky. Other than that, everything else was perfect. We would definitely stay again.

    Michelle2017-02-14T00:00:00Z
  • Located on a quiet lot along with another slightly larger bungalow. The entry to the house wasn't easy to spot. Recommend to go to the apartment before it gets dark. The bungalow is exactly as described. No air conditioning and definitely requires all windows to be opened to cool down. There is a fan though above the bed. Other than that clean and simple. About a 40 minute drive from Volcano NP and 20 to 30 minutes to Hilo depending on traffic.

  • I needed a place close to Volcano National Park and didn't need a ton of space. I wasn't staying a very long time and I would be out most of the day at the park so the size and location was ideal for me. There is a Foodland about 15 min from the house and on the way to the park so I was able to stop and grab food for the day driving around the park. The place feels very secluded especially at night because it gets very dark as there is little light pollution. Arriving late at night and in the dark the place was easy to find because it was clearly marked and there was great directions from the host. I had issues with my flight so I landed 6 hours after I was supposed to. Diana was so great and genuinely concerned about my arriving since it would after dark. There was fresh fruit from their property waiting for me that is the perfect way to start the day. I would definitely stay here again.

  • This cottage has everything you need, and the hosts have added little amenities that make it the perfect retreat. So quiet and serene - I highly recommend it.

  • The bungalow was comfortable, had all the needed ammenities and it truly was a quiet and serene place to stay with a lot of privacy. The bungalow is very well kept and clean. Diana and lando even had snorkeling gear, towels and beach chairs for us to use. Everything looks very new. Diana and Lando are the best hosts I've encountered when booking air bnbs. We received a warm welcome when we arrived and she gave us great advice on what to go see and where to eat and even had fresh fruit for us . I would definitely recommend this place when staying in the Big Island.

  • Kealoha's apartment is the perfect base for all kinds of activities on the Big Island. We arrived in the late evening and were impressed by the starry sky. Kealoha welcomed us very warmly and we felt at home immediately. The apartment itself is great, especially the outside area which is mosquito free. The bed is really comfortable. We would love to come back one day!

    Tanja2016-06-01T00:00:00Z
  • The apartment has a pleasing high ceiling and refreshing screened porch with dining table looking at surrounding rain forest. Kealoha was very friendly, and kindly gave us drinking water and cooking ingredients. The kitchen stove and pots are of low grades but understandable given the bargain rate per night. The towels and the pillow cases both had strong odors (from decaying residual protein and oxidized residual fat, respectively), though.

Our jungle get away surrounded by an acre of fruit trees and tropical landscaping is the perfect place to unwind and enjoy all the Big Island has to offer. Individual pods separated by walkways and decks create living spaces as unique and beautiful as the surrounding jungle, allowing you to feel a true part of the outdoors.
There are three separate living areas connected by decks and walk ways. Large open living room with TV and DVD player. Double doors from the garden into a cute rustic kitchen with a bright breakfast nook. Both the bedroom and living room feature large floor to ceiling windows, giving you a wonderful peak into the jungle setting. Sleeping commodities include a comfortable full size bed in the bed room with convenient mosquito netting, and sleeping mats in the living room for extra guests. The lovely soaking tub is a favorite spot to relax and look out over the garden, through the surrounding windows. Outdoor shower for quick convenient rinse offs. The lush tropical landscaping includes numerous citrus, mango, lychee and starfruit trees. The pond feature which leads over a small bridge to a zen like garden makes this a calm and beautiful getaway that is not to be missed.
Featuring great local farmers markets, delicious food and tempting shops in nearby Pahoa, and a short drive to historic downtown Hilo you wont want to miss all that the area has to offer. A less than five minute drive gets you to the ocean where you can take full advantage of coastal hiking trails.
  • I can't express my feeling about how much I love this house. I was stunned for the entire day that how beautiful and stylish this home is! The layout is very unique and brings you closer to the natural surroundings of their property. Walking around the home over the pahoehoe lava flow surrounded by lush tropical foliage and even a guava tree, makes you not want to leave their property the entire stay! I can not recommend this place more enthusiastically. It is hands down the best Airbnb to stay at!

    Sophia2017-09-25T00:00:00Z
  • Peace of Paradise indeed! What a unique place to stay. From the lava in the surrounding gardens to the separate structures connected by the walkway it was an experience. For those staying during the week be sure to check out the night market on Weds night in Kaimu Beach Park. Bookmarking this location for our next visit for sure!

  • Very beautiful location, great garden space. Quirky room buildings and walk-ways, definitely for families ok with feeling "out in the middle of nowhere". Lots of gecko friends and rustic feel. Definitely for the adventurous at heart. Queen/Full size mattress is very comfy!

  • Eyons place is conveniently located in the heart of east side of the big island. We were easily able to drive to many sights each day. There is shopping located not even 15 minutes, including a Walmart in case you forgot something. When you arrive you will be greeted by Sharon who is very knowledgeable of the area and is more than willing to help you out. There is also a binder inside that has custom designed excursions if you aren't exactly sure what to do around the area. We took advantage of the binder and were able to see some "hidden gems" of the area. The property itself is tucked away from the view of any neighbors. There are three separate buildings/rooms all connected with a beautiful composite deck. This was great for putting our baby to sleep and staying up without waking her. The setting of the property was perfect. Ancient lava, many plants, chickens, all made this place perfect for us. We would definitely stay again if we ever return.

    Alicia 2017-07-26T00:00:00Z
  • The home is beautifully designed and well decorated. However the low water pressure was an issue and unfortunately we weren’t able to enjoy the beautiful bathtub scenery. The nighttime frogs and stars were lovely but the daytime construction not so much. It is indeed secluded from the road with beautiful gardens but is unfortunately close to the neighbors. Set your expectations right and you’ll enjoy this unique home.

    Debbie2017-10-19T00:00:00Z
  • Peace of Paradise was a very cool jungly hidden gem which felt deeply in the forest, but not too far from amenities. The house feels so secluded tucked away in a lush forested area. We had a great time and would stay again!

  • This listing was perfect and even better than the pictures. We found the host very kind and informative on our check in and the place is conveniently located with a 20 minute drive to Hilo, Kalapana Lava Flow and thermal pool beach to the south. One of three lovely cottages on a six acre tropical estate is waiting for you. Enjoy the solar-heated, saline pool or regulation tennis court. Listen to the birds settling into the giant banyan tree each evening at sunset. E hele mai.
If you are looking to get away from the hustle and bustle of touristy areas, we invite you to stay with us for a taste of rural island life. You will find us on the eastern, and more lush, side of the Big Island of Hawaii, just 20 miles south of Hilo (between Kea'au and Pahoa in Hawaiian Paradise Park). We are centrally located, an excellent base for visiting the world’s most active volcano, lovely botanical gardens, thermal hot pools, black sand beaches, tropical rainforests, spectacular waterfalls and much, much more. It is just minutes to picturesque lava cliffs perfect for whale watching and turtle sightings, to little known hiking trails, or to the historic village of Pahoa with its quaint shops and choice of ethnic restaurants. Our family, long time residents living on site, will be very happy to point you in exciting directions. Three comfortable, one bedroom and studio size, family style cottages, a beautiful, forty foot, saline pool...a private regulation tennis court ... a picturesque gazebo..and a mini playground, all on our six acre estate, are available for your family’s use. NAKUKUI COTTAGE, our lovely studio and perfect for two guests, is set amidst large lawns and graceful palm, near the solar heated pool and tennis court. It has a half sized but fully equipped kitchen, washer/dryer, cableTV/DVD player, private phone, ceiling fans and a full bath. There is a king sized bed in the single room as well as a sitting area. All linen is provided. The dining area is a private screened lanai. Barbeques are available. An assortment of breakfast delights including fresh eggs laid by our chickens, an assortment of local fruit as well as an assortment of tea, coffee, or fresh juice will be stocked for your enjoyment. Children love us and are very welcome (We run a homeschooling program August to May)..... Sorry, pets are not. However, we are happy to share our large assortment of animals with you. Our favorite garbage disposal is our large sulcata tortoise, Nunui.
  • The cottage was great and Cynthia is a fantastic host. We were very comfortable and we loved the fresh fruit and eggs she provided! The cottage is in a great location for getting to the Volcanoes and for exploring the east side of the island. We didn't end up using the pool or the tennis court (we were only there 2 days and there is so much to see on the island), but both looked very inviting. A young family staying there at the same time as us were having a great time running around, playing tennis and swimming (in between the rain showers). I definitely recommend Cynthia's for a laid back country experience on the Big Island!

    John2014-07-23T00:00:00Z
  • Cynthia is a great host. Her knowledge of the area is very helpful. The cottage is private and very comfortable in a wonderfully peaceful location. We felt at home the moment we entered. We woke each morning to the singing of birds. We wish we could have spent more time at his location.

  • We thoroughly enjoyed our stay! The cottage was lovely and the grounds were stunning. The Greenlaws were fantastic hosts! We enjoyed the close proximity to everything that we wanted to do. We loved it so much that we are looking at possibly buying a house right down the street! We recommend this cottage to anyone wanting to get away in paradise. We will definitely keep them in mind for when family comes to visit us and we need overflow space. Thanks for making it such a great time for us.

  • This was such a fun, hidden gem of a place. The cottage was just the right size for two people. There were a bunch chickens on our porch to hang out with us in the morning. The pool was nice and clean, and not crowded. It was cool to see all of the kids going to school in the mornings.

    Rozalyn2013-08-18T00:00:00Z
  • This little studio-cottage sits on a large property with the host's house, a couple of other guest houses, a private home school, and some sheds and barns. The place is great for kids as there are animals on the property: roosters and hens, several sheep, dogs, and cats. My kid played with them for hours leaving me in peace, which was an unexpected bonus. Cindie had a thoughtfully prepared folio with info about the local attractions, places to each, flora and fauna. We got a 10% discount at Kaleo's in Pahua when mentioned we were staying at Cindie's Paradise. There is a very nice pool on the property and a tennis court with the wall. (It could use some upkeep, but unless you are a pro it works fine. The cabin could also use a few upgrades: furniture, carpet, window shades, e.g.) There is so much to do for kids, and feels so peaceful for an adult, that we felt like spending a few hours on the property every morning before venturing out to see places. This location is great to explore the Puna corner of the Big Island as it is centrally located in this south-east corner of the island. Cindie and Michael are great hosts. They let us book on a very short notice and probably had to scramble to get the cottage ready for us. At the moments notice she gave us another pan when I asked for one (having not found the one already in the kitchen right before me.) She left papaya, a dozen eggs, coffee, cream cheese and bagels for us in the kitchen. (The latter is a rather tiny kitchenette, well stoked with everything one may need. But the scarce counter space makes it a bit of a joggling challenge to cook there.) The bed is huge, and easily sleeps three. There is a TV with cable, wicker loveseat, and a recliner armchair. The dining space is just before the entrance, enclosed with a bug screen; it's a very nice place to seat. The cabin has a washer/drier right outside, which we much appreciated and used - after having spend over a week on the island. Not every place has this luxury. The WiFi was there as advertised but the internet connector was patchy because of the local telecom company experiencing problems. I highly recommend staying with Cindie and Michael in one of there guest houses. Next time I would try to book an adjacent house, which is more spacious.

  • My daughter and I enjoyed our stay at this family Oasis. It was a great fit for us. Nice room and clean house on a lovely property in a quiet residential neighborhood. Easy to find and really in a great location to explore the area. Pauline and Ted are warm and welcoming, easy to connect with as well as helpful and respectful of privacy. They have pets that are friendly and well behaved, which added to our experience. Thank you so much Pauline, Ted and Keo!!

  • I had a blast here, with Pauline, Ted and Keo. I stayed 2 weeks with this wonderful family and I did not want to leave. I felt myself part of the family. They're such a loving, caring and friendly people. I am glad that I found their listing and was able to stay with them. The house is big, beautiful and is very well taken care of. I enjoyed absolutely everything about my stay - from Ted's and Pauline's recommendations on where to go and what to see to conversations at the end of the day. Other guests that I met during my stay with Ted, Pauline and Keo were very nice people too. This by all means was one of my best Airbnb experiences. I highly recommend staying here.

  • What a fantastic stay! Ted is a friendly, gracious, relaxed, and enormously helpful host in terms of suggesting beautiful and awe-inspiring sights and activities. As a first time visitor to the Big Island, I did my research before arriving, but Ted helped me take my trip to the next level, armed with knowledge only a local can provide. The other guests staying in the house were equally kind and outgoing, and it was a blast to swap stories and photos of our adventures on the island. I also fired up the bbq one night to grill some steaks and vegetables, and enjoyed a wonderful dinner in the lanai without having to pay exorbitant restaurant prices. The room was cozy, but exactly what I wanted: a place to crash at the end of the day after driving to cool spots all over the island.

    Liton2017-04-12T00:00:00Z
  • Ted, Pauline, and Keo were amazing hosts. They shared all their knowledge with us and helped us plan out our trip, both the things on our list and their personal recommendations. Their help allowed us to see everything we wanted to on the Hilo side of the island without having to spend the entire day in the car or miss out on anything. When we returned to their home each night we were greeted and spent time chatting about our day. Their home is very cozy and they allowed us to make it our own during our stay, including morning coffee and use of their kitchen, grill, and back lanai if we so wished. We're so thankful for their hospitality; it made our vacation go smoothly.

  • We stayed at Ted's, Pauline's and Keo's house for 8 nights. It was the best decision! :-) We had a wonderful time with this family, they know whats important in life. The room was comfortable, x-large bathroom and a great kitchen to use. You can get the best tips for your stay on big island. We will never forget our stay in their home. :-) Ps.: if you want a wiener Schnitzel, ask Ted :-)

  • Thanks again Ted, you were a perfect host for us. We couldn't have done a better trip without everything you shared with us. I suggest to everyone who are looking for a place to stay on Big Island to seriously consider this offer, you'll enjoy your stay. Merci beaucoup Ted! Cet hôte est très sympathique, toujours prêt à aider et a une connaissance très bénéfique de l'île pour quiconque y voyage. Our comfy 1 bedroom cottage is your tropical home away from home, with vaulted ceilings, fast wi-fi, Smart TV, comfortable pull out couch in the living room and 2 full sized beds in the bedroom. It is fully stocked if you want to cook, and is also wheelchair accessible!
Very open and spacious house. Please be aware there are Coqui frogs on this side of the island, they sound like birds chirping at night. This is a tropical rainforest environment, so if you are a light sleeper you may want to bring earplugs. Also, there are chickens on the property and at times neighboring roosters come into the yard and crow.
This is quiet neighborhood, the house is in a very jungle-like tropical setting.
  • Again, wonderful place to stay! This was our second time staying there and it met all our needs! I especially love that there are no red ants in there compared to other places we've stay at. Great location!

  • My wife and I felt very comfortable staying at Rachel's place. She was super responsive and we appreciated her taking responsibility for making our stay pleasant. You can tell the difference when a host is doing it only for the money and when they really want to make you feel comfortable. That's what Rachel does. The place itself is simple but has ample space and everything you need for a Big Island holiday, including lots of chickens walking around the garden waiting for some papaya seeds and skins from your breakfast.

    Laure2017-05-19T00:00:00Z
  • Rachel is an exquisite host. The cottage provides an authentic experience of the true Hawaii. The location is great for seeing Hilo/volcanoes side of the island. Picking fresh fruit off the trees for breakfast was a very cool experience.

  • Rachel's cottage was basic but comfortable. Her mother, Kat, was an amazing host - she even showed us how to pick avocados and papaya!

Aloha Margaret has been hosting for year. Paradise Raku Art Studio vacation rental located In Hawaiian Paradise Park. On the East side of the Big Island. Convenient location at the top of sub division on paved roads. A creative place to stay.
This is a private studio with its own bathroom and entrance. There is a fridge toaster oven, coffee maker. Set on a lush tropical acer.
  • Nicely private room with its own bathroom, kind of like a motel room. Margaret provided coffee and a refrigerator and microwave which is great. Check-in was easy and flexible. Good value. Many thanks.

    Jt2017-08-24T00:00:00Z
  • The bed was super comfy! Got a great night of sleep here. Pretty simple place, good value though for the location being close to Pahoa and Hilo!

  • Our first Airbnb experience. Very nice room, very comfortable. We would definitly come back.

    Richard2017-05-25T00:00:00Z
  • Place was tight for the price, Margaret was very cool as well

    zach2017-09-08T00:00:00Z
  • This place had clearly not been cleaned in a long a time. There were many spiders in literally every corner of the room and bathroom. There was hair on the bathroom sink. There was a very thick layer of dust under the bed, along with many spiders/spider webs underneath the head of the bed. There was one tiny desk fan providing very little airflow, causing the room to feel more humid inside than outside. The chairs had stains/spills on them. We ended up having to stay at a hotel room because of the bad experience. However, Margaret was a very nice and understanding person when we let her know of the situation.

  • There are 3 family of us in our trip. It was not best house in Big Island, The the price is very worth it. I think it was suitable to family travel. Everything is good but 3 things. 1stly, Because new decoration, you can smelled a bit new painting taste. 2ndly,Perhaps the house's local adjacent beach, there are a few insects in the house. 3rdly,the household is quite a bit friendly and kindly.

    XIERZHATI2017-07-27T00:00:00Z
  • Great space for large group. Beautiful view but not a beach access. Four miles from main highway. Good spot for activities divided between Hilo and South beaches, tide pools and warm springs.

    Kristen 2017-10-31T00:00:00Z
  • Was an amazing space. You can hear the ocean from the Lanai and the Koiki frogs sing you a lullaby to put you to sleep. My family of six had more space than we could ever want and If there was something you needed it was problem already there.

    Joseph2017-07-10T00:00:00Z

    * Looking for a private chill-out place located in the hub of all major Hilo side attractions? * Love to be lulled to sleep by the ocean? * Want a "clashing waves" show first row seat? * Ready to observe the rising sun from your bed? Seek no more - and book your stay here now! Aloha
Enjoy your privacy - it's the only house on the lot. No second house, no hosts living there - only you and the ocean! Sunbathe in the backyard, relax or have your meal in the lanai and get mesmerized by the view of the ocean and the waves clashing onto the cliffs (I call it the 'waves theater'). Big sea turtles (honus) are often guests along the coastline, plus you might be able to see dolphins and whales (might be not without patience ;) ) The kitchen provides you with all utensils and gadgets needed, while the dining room ensures your view is stunning! The queen bed arrangement of the bedroom can be changed to two twin beds upon request; a queen air mattress is available, if there're more than 2 guests. You'll find snorkeling gear, a boogie board and other beach supplies and maybe that's what you're going to use first of all! *** Please read about the additional tax charge in Other notes section *** Aloha!
The name of the subdivision you'll be staying in, Hawaiian Paradise Park, speaks for itself. It's beautiful wherever you go. The easiest destination from your house will be just walking/jogging/biking along the coast line, following the cliffs and enjoying the picturesque views. There're a few popular lookout spots as well as the hiking trail down to the Secret Beach (aka Shipman beach), about a mile long, to a rewarding white sand beach with azure waters and often guest stars - turtles.
  • We had a wonderfull time there. Good location for visiting east side of the island. I recommend it

  • I enjoyed my stay at Irina's place very much. Irina was a friendly and helpful host and helped me with informations. The house was very clean and had everything I needed. I loved to hear the sound of the waves and birds and to have my privacy. The house is located in a very quiet area. I would love to come back.

    Susanne2017-05-06T00:00:00Z
  • Irina's place is fantastic. Location is great, check in is easy, house is well equipped.

    Abel2017-08-09T00:00:00Z
  • House was great and it was right on the ocean. It's close to Kalapana lava viewing area and uncle Roberts. it is 20 miles from Hilo so a little of a trek but not terrible if you have a loose schedule. It's nice that it has ac because without it the house can get quite warm during the day. I had issues with the Internet on arrival and there is limited cell signal (att) in the house so it took a couple attempts to get a message through the Airbnb app to contact the Irina. I would definetly make sure the Internet is working before booking. Once the Internet issue was sorted irina was easy to reach and quick to respond. The kitchen is equipped with everything you really need and more. And it was nice being able to do a couple loads of laundry.

    Donnie2017-04-23T00:00:00Z
  • We decided to book this house because it was about 30 minutes from our sunrise lava boat tour. We arrived and couldn't believe the view and backyard. You're literally right on the edge of the ocean and what feels like the world. Irina was great with communicating and the place was neat. If you're up for it, get up for sunrise here, you won't regret it. Was also nice to eat breakfast out on the patio in the morning and listen to the waves all night.

    Brian2017-06-02T00:00:00Z
  • This is a lovely place - the house is very well situated on the cliffs and well equipped. You will want for nothing. It's a quiet neighbourhood but you don't feel isolated at all. A good base for exploring everywhere, and good shops for provisions are quite near. The night sounds of the ocean and the frogs are very pleasant and the view across the lava garden is great for breakfast or sundowners. An excellent place to stay.

    Amanda2017-06-19T00:00:00Z
  • Its small but very nice. The view is very beautiful. The home was clean and communication was very good. The only down fall is there is no cable tv

    patrick2017-05-15T00:00:00Z
  • We loved our stay! It was perfect to be in a private and somewhat secluded place, to hear the waves on the cliffs and to watch the sunrise over the ocean from bed. Irina gave us a tip to watch for sea turtles off the cliffs, and it was fun to watch and spot them. The house is centrally located between a lot of the different places we wanted to visit. We highly recommend it. Irina also gave great recommendations on where to visit.

Private room for 2 very close to Hilo. Comfortable real queen bed with a private bathroom use of a full size kitchen in a fairly large house only 30 minutes to all the greatest sites to see on the big island. Plus there's two massage therapists.
I am an amazing intuitive healer, so not only do have a comfortable environment, you can choose to experience massage while at Retreat In Style during your stay. There are two massage therapist here to receive excellent bodywork from. Guests of our home get a special discount on massage. The space is clean and private in a lush Hawaiian Oasis on a 1 acre lot. We are centrally located so there's plenty of site seeing & beaches, farmers markets, restaurants, bars, art galleries, and the volcano national park, etc...all within 30 mins. The airport in Hilo is approximately 20 minutes away. So you could plan out your vacation moving about the island into the three different directions all from one comfortable home. You'll have access to a full kitchen for whatever meals you'd like to prepare and eat during your stay. This home is large enough to sleep 6 to 8 people so let me know if you're interested in planning a fabulous family vacation. We can happily accommodate you in this lovely private residence.
I love the convenience of my neighborhood; it is generally a very quiet family neighborhood. The 1 acre lots are private and separated by the lush tropical plants of Hawaii. It is a great neighborhood for walking or bicycle riding. Ocean views are not that far away. If you happen to be traveling without rental car I can assist you with catching public transportation into town for shopping site seeing and swimming at local beaches. This home is in Keaau and Hilo is close. My favorite beaches there are Richardson ' s and Carl Smith Beach Park. Or you could go other direction to Warm Ponds or the famous Kahenna Beach or down to Kalapona. Then of course on another day you could also go other direction to Volcano National Park. All these lovely locations are about 30 mins away. Kona is approximately 2 hours away.

  • My wife and I just came for the night before flying out of Hilo airport. We got in around 8:30 PM and left at 7:30 AM. This venue is about 25 minutes away from Hilo Airport. April is a wonderful host. It was too bad that she wasn't there when we arrived because she was out at a concert but we did get to see her for a couple of minutes before we left. When we got to April's place, there was an incredibly loud, irritating & repetitive sound that was in the air. We tried to close all the windows and lock ourselves into the bedroom, but we couldn't shut the noise out because it was too loud and the windows don't close shut. This meant, we got a pretty shitty night of sleep. When we chatted with April the next morning, we found out that this was the local frog colony doing their 'normal' nighttime singing and that if you slept there enough nights, you would get used to it... well we were just there one night and we couldn't sleep too well unfortunately. I like April and the place is exactly as described in the pictures, but if you are a light sleeper, please beware. One star for location, One star for April, One star for cleanliness.

    Ankit2016-03-21T00:00:00Z
  • Very nice place. You have your own sleeping room and a private bathroom over the corridor. The kitchen may be used and is perfectly equipped. The landlady is very friendly and helps with all questions. You can also get massages there. We had a pleasant stay.

  • It was a pleasure to stay at April's place. She was so nice and so kind. We got there late evening and she told us that she will wait to meet us until we get there. Her house was easy to find and everything was exactly she described it on Airbnb. She made us feel so comfortable about our stay and I personally feel like home. She even offered about taking us around the area. I can't not say enough great things about our stay at April's place and I would highly recommend to anyone who is looking for a room and stay in that area. Lovely lovely lovely

  • We loved his Maia suite!! It was super cute and comfortable, everything you need. Sam and his wife were veryyy nice && friendly, he sent us a bunch of links to local attractions && food. His house is a good location to stay on the hilo side, a little bit more inland. The place was nice and clean and welcoming, we would stay again!

    Sarah2016-11-07T00:00:00Z
  • Sam's place is fantastic. Since you need a car to really see everything on the island, it is a perfect home base. Easy drive to Hilo town and Volcanos National Park and I was also able to easily make it to the Kona side of the island for a couple days of scuba diving. Both the northern and southern routes to the Kona side were fantastic. Very easy to take day trips from this location. The suite was very clean and comfortable and nicely designed and Sam was very easy to communicate with. I would definitely stay here again if I ever make it to the Big Island again, and I hope I do!

You get a lot of space to stretch out for your money, great for keeping your vacation in your budget. She was very helpful with helping us grocery shop, travel around and stay safe while we were there. We stayed for a week with 2 children and had a blast.

  • This home is spacious, clean, comfortable and in a quiet neighborhood. Wifi is good. Brenda has taken care to provide many amenities such as beach towels, chairs and a cooler. She is friendly and informative about area attractions while providing you with all the privacy you want. We love her plants especially the beautiful orchids.

  • Brenda's place is nice and clean.

    Eugene2017-07-19T00:00:00Z
  • Brenda is a sweetheart and her place is very cozy. I visited areas as far north as Honomu and as far south as Volcano and Kalapana, with Brenda's place being conveniently placed right in the center. Although I failed to communicate my arrival time, Brenda was right there to greet me as I pulled into the driveway. Brenda is very friendly and would be happy to share with you information about the island. She is also very happy to give you your privacy if that is what you prefer. While the 2 bedrooms/living room/kitchen/bathroom are not exactly "separate" from the other area of the home (they are connected and closed off from one another with a room divider), this was not a problem for me. In fact, I found it comforting to know that someone was nearby in case I needed them. Knowing that Brenda was on the property also made me feel that my belongings were safe there. Brenda is full of aloha spirit and takes pride in providing her guests with a safe and clean home to relax in after a long day of "vacationing". Hot water was always available, and water pressure in shower was strong. The bedrooms are spacious and the beds large and comfortable. There are coqui frogs to sing you to sleep and roosters to make sure you don't waste the morning in bed. This was my first Airbnb experience - thank you Brenda for making it a great one!

  • The stay was amazing. Charles was a very friendly person as is his wife Kathy. They made us feel right at home and our questions were answered immediately. Thank you for letting us stay in your home.

    k2017-07-20T00:00:00Z
  • Charles and Kathy were excellent hosts, and their guesthouse was the best! Both Charles and Kathy were very accommodating and helpful. Our flight got in extremely early and they were able to link up with us for the keys. They also provided us with a lot of great information about the island. One of their suggestions was the lava viewing at the observatory at the Hawaii Volcanoes National Park. Their guesthouse was like a dollhouse! Absolutely cozy! The futon in the living area was so comfortable, just like the bed in the bedroom. After a long day of exploring, it was nice to come back and dive into bed after a shower, of course. The kitchenette was also super helpful and allowed us to prep for breakfast, our lunches and dinner. We also loved all of Charles' photography on the walls. They were so beautiful! I definitely recommend Charles and Kathy's guest home.

    Kimberly2016-07-03T00:00:00Z
  • Charles and Kathy were exemplary hosts. They answered our emailed questions promptly from the start, and welcomed us to their home with bananas and papayas from the garden, as well as a detailed talk on where everything is and how it all works. The house is lovely: spacious, comfortable and well-appointed, full of good quality furnishings, gadgets, gizmos, and pretty much everything we could need, right down to shampoo. It is separate enough from the main house to feel completely private, and the two covered lanais, surrounded by the peaceful well-tended tropical garden and incessant birdsong, are ideal for relaxing. There is no AC, but the fans and openable windows are enough to cool cool it down nicely in the evening. The nights are filled with the usual Hawaiian cacophony of crickets, coqui frogs and over-achieving roosters, but there is little traffic noise. Bear in mind that Hawaiian Paradise Park is essentially an extensive tract of suburbia, with no real centre or services to speak of. It is a half-hour drive, with traffic, into Hilo for dinner, although there are also a handful.of restautrants in the smaller towns of Pahoa and Keeau, which are much closer. However, all in all, Charles' and Kathy's place makes a great base for exploring Hilo, the volcanoes, and the Puna region.

  • Charles and Kathy were wonderful hosts. Their home as well as their beautiful garden exceeded all of our expectations. Would definitely recommend staying here.

  • Hale Pama is in such a beautiful, tranquil, and picturesque setting. The space is super really comfortable, well kept, and all amenities are practically brand new. When I return to this side of the Big Island I just hope Hale Pama is available. Just a wonderful, clean, comfy, and conveniently located accommodation.

  • We cannot express enough how much we thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Hale Pama. The house has everything you could ask for and Charles and Kathy are lovely hosts and were extremely helpful. Charles also provides his own tours which we took the opportunity to explore Mauna Kea with his help. An experience not to be forgotten. The house is also a great location for Volcano National Park, Kalapana and other many attractions Hawaii has to offer.

    Brooke2017-06-22T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful guest house and welcoming hosts! We enjoyed our stay at the house of palms. It was very clean and nicely decorated, and had all the amenities. We especially enjoyed the kitchenette for being able to have breakfast prior to heading out for the day. We thought it was a great location for visiting Volcanoes National Park!

    Kimberly2016-06-30T00:00:00Z
  • I stayed in Hale Pama for two nights with my boyfriend and another friend of ours and had a wonderful experience. Charles was very hospitable and keeps a lot of information available in the house for your reference. The place itself is beautiful- lots of space, clean, comfortable, a little kitchen to cook in & a grill outside, a beautiful yard, and convenient to both Hilo and Hawaii Volcanoes Park. Thank you Charles!

This private room includes a comfortable queen size bed, a full closet, and a shared bathroom/shower just down the hall. The yard is full of tropical trees and is the perfect setting to drink in the peaceful Hawaiian rain forest. Feel free to enjoy the living room, kitchen, and large deck. Two small dogs do live here but are kept in a separate area to promote our guests relaxation.
This space is straight forward: the room has a comfy queen-sized bed that can easily fit two, with freshly washed sheets and comforter. There's a writing desk nook with a couple of drawers of storage. The full sized closet can easily fit a travelers wardrobe with additional storage provided by lifting up the lid of the ottoman seat in the room. The dark drapery can close out light when sleeping-in, but can also be opened to enjoy the tropical Hawaiian rain-forest the property sits on. The room is finished with a fan for the mid-day heat and a night stand side-table with a lamp that is perfect for reading under and setting your tea cup on while planning your next adventure. Just down the hall is a shared bathroom.
Our home is a 5 minute drive from the Maku'u cliffs which is a great place to walk along the beautiful Puna coastline while watching the turbulent Hawaii waters pound against the rugged coastline. We are also 15-20 minutes from Isaac Hale beach park, Ahalanui warm ponds, and Kahena beach; as well as Kalapana which about a 30 minute drive away which are all must-see destinations. Historic Pahoa town is located only 5 minutes away and is filled with a great range of restaurants for such a small quaint town.
  • This is a very distinctive wooden house. The place is very natural, and get a lot of fresh air. From there to go to vocano and the mauna kea is very closes. From this location drive just 15min can find market to buy or eat. It is also close post office. Landlord never bothers u, and you have enough private space. The room is lovely and nice.

  • Nice place in the rain forest. Convenient place to visit Volcano, Mauna Kea or Puna. The house is very comfortable. Matthew responded to our questions pretty quickly.

    Michael2017-04-23T00:00:00Z
  • It was a pleasure to stay three nights at Matt and Annie's place in the rainy rain forest. The room was nice, clean and comfortable. And we pretty much had the whole house to ourselves. We could use the whole kitchen and a private bathroom. Location is also great if you wanna check out the area. We would come again :-)

    Tikva2016-08-29T00:00:00Z
  • Matthew is a great host and gave us useful advice on places to visit around the Big island. We really liked his lovely house and would strongly recommend anyone visiting the Southeastern area to consider staying here! The amazing volcanoes park and beautiful Kapoho tidepools are just a 30-40 mins drive away from his place.

    Zhi2016-11-09T00:00:00Z
  • Good location- you will need a car to reach the house, but you definitely need a car for the Big Island anyway. The house is really lovely, comfortable bed, super clean, everything worked great. Matt and Annie were really nice hosts - very helpful and friendly. Would highly recommend!

    Patricia2017-02-07T00:00:00Z
  • We arrived late in the night and Matt and Annie were very accommodating. They left lights on and stayed in contact with very clear directions. They have a lot of great advice and tips on the area. This was our first Airbnb experience and they made it very comfortable. Arrive in the daylight because the drive can be tricky if you're not familiar with the area. There's a very small town feel with access to everything you need. Highly recommend!!

    Nick2017-05-22T00:00:00Z
  • Nice place surrounded by trees and joyful frogs singing whole night. It is a bit further from places but it is quiet and good for relaxation. Matthew was a knowledgable and friendly host.

  • David greeted me on arrival and kindly familiarized me with the place even though he needed to be somewhere. Cozy place and great deal!

    Kurt2014-12-06T00:00:00Z
  • David is very nice and helpful when we asked him for sightseeing advise. The house is surrounded with trees and birds.

    Victor2015-11-10T00:00:00Z
  • The house is very clean and has everything you need for your stay. The bed is very comfortable and the shower is very good. It's a little far (about 30/20 min) form the center of Hilo but for us it was an ok distance. We didn't get to know David but he let all the instructions for us as well as his number to any emergency. I highly recommend this place if you don't bother to be a little bit far from the center of the city.

    Rafael2017-08-29T00:00:00Z
  • Quite place to explore the area around Hilo. Everything you need is there in the cottage...cooking would be no problem with fully equipped kitchen. Highly recommended.

    Oliver2016-12-26T00:00:00Z
  • We highly recommend the lemon cello cottage. David is such a wonderful, thoughtful host. He is super-fast at communicating and is so accomodating. The cottage is clean, simple and has a super comfortable bed. Fans are available if the heat gets to you. The back lanai is perfect, beautiful view, quiet neighborhood. His dogs are just so sweet and well-mannered. We have absolutely no complaints and would definitely stay there again!!

  • Very nice budget-friendly option for staying on this side of the island (great location especially if you are interested in exploring the lesser-traveled Puna area, as we were) — reasonably clean, private, and thoughtfully outfitted (we especially appreciated the snorkel equipment provided). Everything was plenty comfortable for us, but I'll echo sentiments that if you're looking for the Ritz, you might want to look elsewhere. Didn't get a chance to meet David but he left clear instructions that made it easy for us to orient.

    Jenn2016-04-30T00:00:00Z
  • The cottage was very easy to find even when it's rainy and dark. We arrived around 9-10pm and could enter the neat apartment with no issue thanks to Dave's instructions sent to us 1 day prior. Dave lives in the apartment next door and welcomed us upon our arrival. The place is as beautiful as written in the description and reflected by the many positive reviews, which I can only support without any hesitation. It was the best accommodation I had in Hawaii (including some 2 star hotels) and one of the best AirBnBs I've ever had. And all that at a very very reasonable price. (There were quite a lot of birds singing outside in the evening, which I was first concerned with, but they were no longer a problem after all windows are shut. )

  • Analeah is just lovely! I came to Hilo as a travel RN and I wanted a safe retreat as I explored my options for housing. The Ohana retreat was the perfect place for me to start my Hawaii journey. It's a bit of a drive into Hilo, but the peace at night is spectacular. The shared kitchen and living room space is really great- met new friends from all over our beautiful planet. It's dark at night so if you are getting in late print a map in case your GPS doesn't work. Enjoy!!

  • Amazing place! It was so convenient for me to see the Valcano national park and visit Hilo. Analeah was so helpful, she made all the arrangements and was very good with her detailed messages. I enjoyed the nature around and pleasant sounds of frogs and bees all night.

  • I just loved this spot tucked away in the trees. Great sleeping, a warm communal atmosphere, and so many thoughtful touches by the hosts. It's a perfect location for your east side adventures - and I can see how fun and easy it would be for a large group to stay here together. Definitely check out the spa services - just what I needed! And don't be shy about asking for advice. Thank you to Analeah and forefeather for a rejuvenating, safe spot for this solo traveler! I would definitely stay here again.

  • I love this retreat, amazing vibes and the aloha spirit is alive and well. Room was clean, as was bathroom and kitchen. Hosts are amazing, Forfeather is a great tour guide. I got to see sacred sights as well as amazing landscapes with him. He is very knowledgeable about the land and culture. Analeah made me an amazing organic coconut cream coffee that blew my mind. Stay here, as you will not be disappointed, big island ohana retreat embodies the aloha spirit.

  • This place was pretty cool!! The House looks like a big tree house but much nicer. The land is beautiful, lots of palm trees which makes it feel like a private jungle resort. Hosts were great; they gave us our own privacy. Suite is much bigger than I expected since it is connected to an outdoor kitchen with an outdoor shower which makes the space a lot bigger than it looks. Lots of outdoor space to lounge. Its a short walk to the ocean. The ocean view is rocky but there are secret spots to hike and jump in the ocean for people who are adventurous.. We felt safe in this neighborhood and will be back next year.. Centrally located to Downtown Hilo and close to airport!!

  • Christina's place was better then expected. It was hard to tell with her 3d pics what we were actually going to get. Place was beautiful, property was beautiful, Location is close to everything. It is in between Downtown Hilo and Volcano. We had our own private Guest suite Below and Owners did not bother us in any way. Very cool couple and fun to talk to. They let us know this rental is a new listing and so we got a great discount and a free night. We will definitely be back again. This home is very unique with all the logs and has a treehouse style. For anyone looking to stay in something different this is your place. Beautiful, Affordable, Great hosts!!!

  • It's a nice experience staying in Liz place which has large space and everything we need. The weather is humidity in Hilo and there were some small animals in the forest shared the place with us.

    Nikki2015-12-28T00:00:00Z
  • The Jungle Hut was a unique place to stay on the Hilo side of the island. Liz did a great job with decorating the hut with all the amenities you need for a stay at guest home. You are truly staying in a rain forest surrounded by lush greenery, birds, and daily rain showers. You're only 10 minutes away from a cute town with local food ad 20 minutes drive to Hilo. The only thing that bothered me was the mosquitoes. Even with Deet and citronella candles, we both have bites all over our bodies. Just be prepared and it shouldn't be an issue. Our overall stay was comfortable and relaxing. Liz also gives a great list of things of activities on the island. She practically helps you plan your whole trip.

    Alice2013-10-21T00:00:00Z
  • Liz was a great host. She was very communicative. Before our trip, she asked what we were interested in doing while in Hawaii and sent an enormous list of suggestions and events. During our stay, there was a problem with the water and she not only let us know about it immediately, she also got it fixed in less than a day. Her space was a great home base for stuff on the Hilo side of the island. I have nothing but great things to say!

    Alex2016-01-16T00:00:00Z
  • We really enjoyed our stay at the Jungle Hut. The location was both away from everything and close to everything. We enjoyed the rain forrest atmosphere while the house itself was secure and critters were never seen inside. The house was perfectly located between Hilo and the Volcanoes National Park with minimal driving needed to get to all the sites. Liz provided great suggestions and advice on what to do and see and provided all the equipment we needed including snorkel gear, flashlights and umbrellas. The house had a well equiped kitchen and was clean and well decorated. Thank you Liz for a great stay!

    Susan2013-05-22T00:00:00Z
  • We loved staying at the Jungle Hut! It was very secluded and peaceful. You could hear the birds during the day and tree frogs at night. You could also see a lot of stars since the neighborhood is in a rain forest. Liz was very responsive in answering our phone calls and made the whole process very easy. The house was clean and we got chocolates and wine upon arrival, which was a great house warming gift.

    Veronika2015-02-26T00:00:00Z
  • Hawaiian Jungle Hut is a spacious open plan studio attached to Hawaiian Jungle Hangout (which takes up the second storey of the home). The comfy and colourful interior has a strong Japanese/ Hawaiian influence. The Hut is set amongst lush tropical forest including passion fruit, star fruit and coconut trees. You will not meet Liz but she will give you plenty if advice via email and we had everything we needed. This is the perfect based to explore Puna, Volcano National Park, Mauna Kea and the East of the Big Island.

    Finn2013-10-17T00:00:00Z
  • I had a great time in the Hawaiian Jungle Hut. It is a good place to explore the island and to get a feeling of what the Hawaiian jungle is like. Liz is a awesome host, reponds fast and gives you a lot of information and personal advice what to do on the island.

    Simon2015-09-21T00:00:00Z
  • PRO: calm & nice neighbourhood, very good price quality ratio, quick and responsive host who will provide you with a lot of tips in the area and already on your drive towards the jungle hut. CON: coqui frogs can be really loud in the evening (I was glad that I'm not too sensitive to that), the hut has a bit of a damp smell but don't get me wrong this comment and as well the one about the coqui frogs is not meant as negative criticism against the host. it's more the area on the east coast of big island which is very rain foresty and wet.

This house is on Kaloli Point, a small part of the area that protrudes into the ocean. This is the "sunny banana belt." Often, when it is raining north, south, and west of our location, it is sunny here on Kaloli Point. Sometimes, you can drive all the way from Hilo Airport in the rain, and when you are about 6 blocks from our street, it will start to clear up. When you arrive at our house, the sun is shining. It is common to rain hard at night and be sunny most of the day. The temperature usually can be in the 60s or 70s at night, and in the 80s in the day.

The list is in detail and made in a way that you can't do it wrong. The listing was accurate and the place looked even better than the pictures. We stayed for 7 nights and got used to frog sounds so much that we now miss it on Kauai. The neighborhood is quiet and great for when you need to stay in for relaxing or retreating. • Our stay at Jim and Carol's was absolutely brilliant. They were beyond helpful and gave us some excellent tips on things to do on the island. With Jim's direction, we managed to find an exposed lava tube from the volcano- incredible! We also loved cooking outside in the fully equipped, open air kitchen listening to the rain and frogs singing. We would definitely return!

This oceanfront paradise getaway overlooks a spectacular ocean view where you'll spend peaceful nights listening to the surrounding waters and wake up to a beautiful eastern sunrise. You'll feel the Hawaiian saltwater on your skin when you arrive, be within 15 minutes from eateries, and 30 minutes from snorkeling. This home provides complete convenience, comfort, and serenity with a full kitchen, Wifi, and basic cable available, or the ocean wave's lull and quietness you've been searching for.
You'll be enamored by the spectacular ocean view and the magnificent whale sightings when in season (Nov - Feb ). We can also arrange for a massage therapist with a reservation (separate fee).
This is a quiet neighborhood with residents and visitors who maintain a high respect for peace and quiet.
  • Love the great scenery when sunrise and at dusk. The sighting is better than many parks.

  • Kanani was an incredible host. Very timely with her interactions. The house was gorgeous and perfectly located out of town right on the water. Great trade winds off the ocean blew right through the house keeping everything very cool. The house was well stocked with what you would need and located in a very quiet part of paradise park. We slept with the windows and doors open and you can hear the waves crashing while you laid down for sleep. We were extremely happy with our stay and would recommend this airbnb to anyone going to Hawaii island.

  • This is a great place to stay - a short drive to volcano natl park and many waterfalls and good hikes. Enjoyed the ocean views and loved falling asleep and waking up to the ocean. Great house!

  • The house and location are very beautiful and idyllic with panoramic ocean views. The house itself was modern, clean and spacious with plenty of room for the three of us. The kitchen was well equipped with the basics for rustling up simple meals. Kanani was incredibly helpful both prior to and during our stay, she was truly the perfect host. Special shout out to the lovely neighbour next door! A top notch Air Bnb overall!

  • We spent eight wonderful days at Nene's Nest. We saw a couple of Nene birds after a brief, torrential rainfall. The "Nest" is a beautiful two bedroom, 2-bathroom gem on the ocean on the eastern side of the Big Island of Hawaii, near Hilo and Keaau. We were lulled to sleep each night with the sound of ocean waves crashing the lava rock cliffs. The upstairs queen size bed is comfortable and the bedroom downstairs has a twin size bed. There is a washer and dryer available for use which we found handy and allowed us to pack lightly. The kitchen has a microwave, refrigerator, stovetop and oven, and a drip coffee maker and is equipped for light meals. This property is ideal for 2-4 adults. The "Nest" is easy driving distance from many points of interest such as Hilo town, Ahalanni, natural hot pool, Pahoa town, Kalapana and Volcano. We had wonderful massages at Hale Ho'ola Hawaiian Healing Arts Center & Spa Volcano and we loved dining at Kaleo's in Pahoa, where we enjoyed the Lilikoi cheesecake. We would highly recommend Nene's Nest!

  • Amazing view! This place sits right on the edge of the ocean. It's beautiful to see and hear the waves crash against the rocks. The sunrise is relaxing, quiet, and breathtaking. The house is clean and has good space to hang out. Ideal for two couples or one family. Kanani was a gracious and helpful host. Many thanks for making our stay on the Big Island so memorable!

    Michelle2017-05-21T00:00:00Z
  • This was one of our favorite places on the Big Island. The views were stunning and the house was very well equipped, there was a kitchen with cookware, thermoses, an umbrella, towels and everything. The place was very large and the ocean was wonderful to wake up to every day. The host/caretaker was also very responsive and friendly.

  • Sandy's yurt ranked among the most comfortable yet unique airbnb experiences I have had. Modern, clean, well-appointed, and very beautiful, her home was the perfect place to stay for our Big Island trip. In addition to being a lovely home, Sandy's place was very eco-friendly without cutting corners on comfort and style. Quiet, peaceful setting that's isolated enough to let you truly relax, but close to Hilo, Pahoa, and tons of stuff in between. This place will change the way you look at modern living.

    Andrew2017-07-10T00:00:00Z
  • If you wonder who invented the concept of Aloha hospitality, it was Sandy. She and her husband built an incomparable retirement home, and they let us (and you) enjoy it even before they do. The only thing that would make it more perfect would be if St. Peter stood at the gate to welcome us in.

    Rog2017-09-15T00:00:00Z
  • This was one of our best experiences!

    Sagar2017-09-05T00:00:00Z
  • This is a lovely and unique home! The location worked for us and it was very peaceful. The effort to anticipate the guest's needs are obvious and appreciated especially in the kitchen and bathrooms. Beds were very comfortable and the grounds beautiful and well maintained.

  • Sandy's round house is fabulous with everything you could possibly want plus a few extras such as filtered water. Highly recommended

  • Beautiful clean home in the country but still within 30 minutes of Hilo. Loved the koa wood cabinets and doors. Cell phone reception is not very good (at&t) but wifi is great. Household amenities are there. Shampoo conditioner body wash laundry soap etc. I would recommend this house to anyone seeking a quiet getaway.

  • This place is amazing!!! The house has everything you need and even more!! Very nice and unique place! Great price for what you get and definitely will stay there again!

  • The apartment is bright, spacious and sparkling clean. The bed was comfy and everything so convenient and nice. So much nicer than a hotel. Quiet and peaceful location. We will stay there again on our next trip to the Big Island. Thank you.

  • The home is very cozy and open. The kitchenette had everything we needed for our stay. Our hosts greeted us personally with a delicious box of chocolates. It really felt like home!

  • Our stay at Vances place was great. We were welcomed very friendly by Kanoe and Vances and got helpful information on stores close by. The flat is very clean, comes with a great shower and a well equipped kitchen. We were even able to dry our tents in their garage, much appreciated! Would for sure recommend to stay here!

    Maja2017-03-03T00:00:00Z
  • The host was kind, easy to communicate, and very welcoming/friendly. We arrived at this place relatively late (after 9pm), and Vances and her husband welcomed us in person with a big smile (and even a gift bag)! The apartment was super clean and very spacious. It was well equipped with Wifi, TV, towels, and a first aid kit, etc. The location was also easy to find and close to Hilo and Volcano National Park. We'll definitely come back to this place. We highly recommend this host.

  • Kanoe & Vances are extremely kind, and extremely sweet. Their home is a little out of Hilo town and it makes it that much better. It's quiet with no sounds but nature. They were always there to communicate with, and literally would respond right away. If you're looking for an affordable-beautiful home, please book with them. You can't ask for a better home :) I also loveeee the fact that it's off the grid and eco-friendly

  • Vances and her husband are great hosts and show great aloha. Their place is clean and offers amenities to help make your stay more comfortable. A great and safe choice to make!

  • Vances' place was really nice, spacious, and clean. We had 2 couples staying there and it had everything we needed. The beds were really comfortable and the kitchen is well stocked. Would definitely recommend this place if the volcano flow is in your itinerary.
