Grandma Js: A lovingly restored, Canada Select 4.5 star, oceanfront home with modern conveniences. Make it your own special retreat! The 100+ year old saltbox welcomes guests to magical Herring Neck. The 1st floor is an open great room with a dramatic ocean view picture window. Upstairs 13' foot vaulted ceilings welcome you to the bedrooms and a 2nd bathroom with an oversized shower. You're 1 hour 15 minutes from Gander Airport, 15 minutes from Twillingate and 45 minutes from Fogo Island Ferry.
The first floor is a great room with a stunning view through a 13’ long picture window. There is also a mudroom, a bathroom with a 62" clawfoot tub, and a utility area. The second floor is accessed by century old wooden stairs where you will find spectacular 13' foot high vaulted ceilings in both bedrooms and a second full bathroom with a soaring ceiling, a gorgeous skylight, and oversized shower.
  • I can’t say enough about this charming little saltbox style house; rustic charm and style yet with all of the modern amenities one could want and need. My girlfriend immediately claimed the downstairs bathroom with the claw foot tub for her bubble baths. No worries, I got the upstairs modern bathroom with a spacious shower large enough to do yoga in (which I did not, nor know how). Apple TV, satellite TV, heat in every room, stocked kitchen, bay views... what more could you ask for? The best host on earth you say? Done. Paul is exactly that and will take care of every detail and can give great local advice and tips. Do yourself a favor: stay here and thank me and Paul later!

    Jason2019-09-23T00:00:00Z
  • ABSOLUTELY FANTASTIC!! This is a wonderful place that, if possible, is even nicer than the pictures. The location is perfect for a quiet holiday with great access to local communities. Paul is a great host - helpful and knowledgeable and just a nice person. Without hesitation we believe this is our favourite AirB&B, and we have had quite a few stays in many locations. The combination of this place, its location, as well as our host made it exceptional. Thank you, Paul.

    Janice2019-09-19T00:00:00Z
  • Paul was a great host, he was very invested in us enjoying our stay in the house and the area! The house was wonderful, spectacular views and had everything we needed for a comfortable stay!

    Devin2019-09-09T00:00:00Z
  • Grandma J’s was such a beautiful getaway for us! The beautiful decor, comfortable furnishings, the wifi and options for TV are all first rate! The house is so charming with lots of antique furnishings coupled with modern appliances for cooking and relaxing . The beds are very cozy and comfortable with lovely duvets and many home made quilts to enjoy! The claw foot tub is so inviting and the oversized shower upstairs is another amazing addition to this house! We couldn’t have asked for a better place to relax and unwind after a busy summer . The views of the ocean and landscape calmyour soul! Our host , Paul was very considerate, courteous and helpful in checking in to make sure we had everything we needed . He also gave us some great advice for things to do in the area and we had a great time pursuing some of these things! We would highly recommend Paul as an Airbnb host.. ( we think he’s a Super host!).. and we thank him for opening his home to us! We love the Airbnb opportunities and look forward to our next vacation utilizing this option! Sincerely; Lorna and Rupert

  • Sometimes you find a place to stay that hits all the right high notes. I found Paul to be authentic in his interest to provide us a great stay. His cottage was supremely comfortable and had a jaw dropping location. I highly recommend you visiting this great part of the world and with Paul’s roof above your head.

  • Grandma J's is a amazing house with an incredible view. Paul pulled out all of the stops reviving an old Salt Box house to it's newfound glory. It has modern touches within a antique building. Grandma J's is so comfortable with all the amenities you would need. The kitchen is incredible to cook in, the bathrooms have a choice of a great clawfoot bathtub on the 1st floor and a great tiled modern shower upstairs. The beds are so comfortable. The view out all of the windows are amazing and sitting on the porch watching the sunset was a great way to end the day. Paul has great suggestions on local activities and takes so much pride in his house and for good reason. Paul, thank you for a true Newfie experience. Mitch

    Mitch2019-08-11T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful space, great communication from host!

    Charis2019-08-05T00:00:00Z
  • First of all Paul is an amazing host. Prompt, fun, and gives great suggestions of what to check out (really helpful when in a smaller place!) Grandma Js is a slice of heaven. The views are spectacular and the place feels like home - if your home was impeccably decorated, had huge vaulted ceilings, and a clawfoot bath. But it still felt cozy! It was a great spot to do day stuff out of Twillingate - we primarily came for icebergs, nature, and a bit of an escape. We got it all and more - we had people seated next to us a dinner set us up with a fisherman the next day to catch cod! Me and my friend had an absolute BLAST! One night we literally stayed in and did hot yoga with 'Alexa' and the beautiful faux fireplace . A dream!

  • Lori's place was wonderful. It is a little less then 20 minutes away from Twilling Gate. Just far enough away for perfectly quiet sleep. Close enough to go back and forth in a day.

  • Beautiful quaint and comfortable cottage.

    Dan2019-09-13T00:00:00Z
  • Excellent little cottage with a gorgeous view. So tranquil. The cottage is well equipped and the beds and pillows very comfy. Close to sights and activities in the area. A really good place to stay.

    Allison2019-09-09T00:00:00Z
  • Nice quaint little cottage off the beaten path. Small community that has all the necessary things can be found close by in Twillingate. The house was an easy check in and not once were we bothered or even ran into other people for that matter! It truly is a secluded little place. There was a wifi repeater to get wifi to the house but it doesn’t really work so the internet kept disconnecting. That was really the only downside to this place. I highly recommend this Airbnb.

    Jason2019-09-02T00:00:00Z
  • Lori’s place is so lovely, all the little touches made you feel so at home. The view from the back is so something else and the area is nice and quiet. We really enjoyed our stay and would highly recommend staying at the cottage.

  • This was a very beautiful home and beautiful room to rent. They wete such a great hosts and let me know about the activities going on in town and where to find something to eat, where to visit and I formation about the town itself which was great to hear. It was a great place to stay and would definitely recommend this place to anyone who is visiting Twillingate. The view is just breathtaking! You have to see it to believe it!

  • Sharon and Edna have a beautiful, clean home. They were very accommodating to our late arrival and provided wonderful hospitality. It was a great place to relax after our travels/hiking in Gros Morne. Wish we could have stayed another night.

  • Lovely place to stay!

    Cindy2019-08-11T00:00:00Z
  • Sharon and Edna are wonderful hosts and such great people. They have a lovely home with a heavenly view of the cove. Their home is in a nice and quiet neighbourhood— a little away from the main stretch of Twillingate (7 min walk/1 min drive). It’s also walking distance to Captain’s Pub where there’s live singing and storytelling 6 days per week, a snack truck, and some beautiful walks and trails. My friend and I loved the room. It (and the rest of the kitchen/dining room/living room) was clean and decorated in their eclectic and artsy style. The beds were very comfortable. The washroom is large and clean. There were so many nice touches and kind and thoughtful interactions with the hosts! Highly recommend!

Bright and light filled cottage on the waters edge of Salt Harbour Herring Neck. Water views from every single window. We are 15 minutes from the town of Twillingate. Enjoy all the activities in town then relax on the dock and watch the boats and seagulls in utter peace. Stargazing is spectacular as there is no light pollution. Peaceful, serene and private - this is the spot to relax and refresh your soul.
This is a traditional saltbox home built in 1911. The house was actually floated to this location in 1957 and approx. 300 people helped to raise it to where it now sits. This was a traditional fisherman and family home. The wharf sits over very deep water where the 'Newfie Girl' longliner was moored. Spacious living/kitchen areas with stunning views, fully equipped kitchen, washer/dryer, big screen TV (for those weather days). Completely updated yet retains the old world charm.
The cottage is 15 minutes from Twillingate. Enjoy the many restaurants, boat cruises, kayaking, dinner theater, museums, entertainment. And of course the best hiking around!
  • If you are looking for serenity, then this is the place for you!!

    Reg2019-08-25T00:00:00Z
  • Absolutely lovely spacious home located right on the water on a small idyllic classic Newfoundland harbour. Communication was fabulous, amenities were great. Location is about 15-20 easy minutes from the center of Twillingate--easy access without being in the middle of the business hubbub. Lots of great hiking in the area. Great food as well.

    Louise2019-08-10T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful space, great communication from host!

    Charis2019-08-05T00:00:00Z
  • Salt Harbour is wonderful and peaceful. Adeline's home is beautifully decorated, fully stocked and close to everything. I often took walks by the house, there is church nearby with a very old graveyard. You can hike up behind the church and get an amazing 360 of Herring Neck. The house has a dock. My kids (9 & 11) had hours of fun catching Sea Perch and just being outside! Adeline is a great host. She is available whenever you have a question, but gives you the space to enjoy the home. I had forgotten a bag while staying and had moved on to St-John's before realizing. She arranged with someone in Twillingate who was going to St-John's to bring it to me. Doesn't get nicer than that! Twillingate, which is 15 mins away from the house, has great restaurants, fishing sites and awesome hiking trails that are not busy. All in all a wonderful stay and we are eager to get back!

A cozy cottage nestled in Muddy Cove of Cobb's Arm, this place offers a beautiful view of the ocean. A bright, open space, our cottage has all of the necessary amenities to make your stay enjoyable. 15 minutes from nearby Twillingate and Iceberg Alley, you are sure to see whales and icebergs in May and June while enjoying warm Newfoundland hospitality throughout the year. 5 minutes from Pikes Arm Lookout and other beautiful hikes. Easy day trip to Fogo Island! Kayaks for use at own risk.
Pets will be considered. Please don't hesitate to ask.
  • Dave's place was amazing! The view outside was beautiful, it's exactly what we needed. Herring Neck is very close to Twillingate and not too far from the ferry if you want to cross over to Fogo Island. The spot was just perfect.

    Vanessa2019-09-26T00:00:00Z
  • The house is beautifully situated on the waters of Cobb's Arm. It looks newly renovated inside and has pretty furniture and nice seaside decorations. The kitchen is well equipped - just remember to go shopping beforehand because there is no shop in Cobb's Arm. All this is described in detail in the information that Jen and Dave provide with the check-in instructions. We highly recommend this cute little house!

    Thorsten2019-09-17T00:00:00Z
  • Great destination! The space is beautifully clean and decorated. The view is spectacular and after daily excursions it is a cozy and quiet place to call home. It is spacious and well equipped with Netflix!

    Eric2019-09-13T00:00:00Z
  • A lovely cottage that is about 10 to 15 minute drive from Twillingate. It was very clean and tastefully decorated with all the necessary amenities.

    Monica2019-09-03T00:00:00Z
  • We stayed at this cottage for 3 nights with another couple and really enjoyed it! The place is very well appointed, with everything you need in the kitchen and bathroom, even q-tips and band-aids! The beds are super comfy, and there are plenty of bed and bath linens available. Nice little touches like cards and a cribbage board were great too. Outside there is a gorgeous deck, firepit, and 2 kayaks available, as well as a lovely charcoal bbq (our steaks were delicious on this grill). We enjoyed touring around the twillingate area while returning to the quiet and tranquil cove each afternoon and evening. If you walk just past the cottage you will find a trail that takes you to a lovely little cove with 2 horses! So much to see and do in this area, we are already planning to return next summer! Dave and Jennifer are great hosts, and they responded to any questions we had promptly. Thank you for a wonderful vacation spot!

    Lauren2019-08-30T00:00:00Z
  • The cottage has a gorgeous view, and shows exactly what it looks like in the picture. We had a very comfortable stay.

    Colette2019-08-25T00:00:00Z
  • Am absolutely incredible house. The view, the quiet and the house. All superb. Thanks Dave and Jen for the incredible stay.

    Mitch2019-08-03T00:00:00Z
  • This was a perfect place to stay and it fully met our needs. It was quiet and we loved the available kayaks to have early morning paddles before heading out to tour some of the villages. It was about 18 minutes to drive into Twillingate. Dave had excellent recommendations of what to see/do/eat in the area and we followed pretty much all of them. A highlight was definitely Pike's Arm lookout, which was literally 5 minutes away and we had the lookout to ourselves on a beautiful day. Thanks much to the hosts! We would stay again in a heartbeat.

Travel through time as you enter this newly restored Old Salt Box home with all the modern conveniences. While taking in the ocean view, imagine nearly a century ago when ten men and a horse pulled the house across the ice from nearby Ship Island to where you now stand in Pike's Arm. You'll discover original artifacts from decades past, reminiscent of when the house was a family home and a community museum. Add a stay at The Museum to your list of Newfoundland adventures.
PLEASE NOTE: THE MUSEUM IS LOCATED IN THE COMMUNITY OF PIKES ARM (not in Herring Neck as incorrectly shown on the Airbnb 'Location'). Our home in Pike's Arm is about 25 minutes from Twillingate and an hour from the ferry to Fogo Island, both popular tourist destinations. View the ocean from the front and back of the house and, depending on your luck, catch sight of a whale and maybe even an iceberg! A beautiful lookout where you see breathtaking views of the surrounding area is only a five minute walk from The Museum. Our home is a completely renovated one bedroom, two storey Old Salt Box home with the modern conveniences of a new home. The loft bedroom has a queen size bed with a spectacular view of the ocean. There is a three piece bathroom ensuite and a two piece powder room on the main floor. All main living spaces have a view of the ocean.
The Museum is an ocean front (and back) home located in Pike's Arm, a small outport community. A tiny collection of homes dots this beautiful outport ocean landscape. If you need a few basics, there is a variety store located in Cobb's Arm about a ten minute drive from Pike's Arm. The town of Twillingate (about twenty minutes away from Pike's Arm) has two grocery stores, a bank, pharmacy, liquor store (The Mercantile), and a post office, as well as many sights and attractions. Take a walk through Twillingate and visit the gift shops, craft brewery, museums, art galleries and fish market. Perhaps you'll take a whale watching tour. The restaurants and coffee shops in the area offer a variety of traditional Newfoundland delights. Maybe you're in town for the Fish, Fun, and Folk Festival. Take in the Dinner Theatre or other musical events in town. It's worth the fifteen minute drive from Twillingate to the town of Crow Head to savour the view at the Lighthouse. Hike one of the many beautiful trails in the area while you're there.

  • Fantastic location!

    Angie2019-09-21T00:00:00Z
  • We loved our stay in the loft / "hobbit room". Although it was tiny, the room felt very cozy and comfortable. There is shelving for all your gear and a window overlooking the water. The location is great! Right across the street from Split Rock Brewery. Would absolutely stay again!

    Lauren2019-08-28T00:00:00Z
  • Quirky place! They really do mean that the ceiling is under 5 feet! Super clean and great base for exploring the area.

    Kathryn2019-08-26T00:00:00Z
  • Very clean, bright place. Super easy checkin. We stayed in the loft, which only has a 5 foot ceiling, but it didn't matter at all because we didn't want to spend much time in the room other than to sleep. There is plenty of common space - a big living room and nice kitchen.

    Lorna2019-08-08T00:00:00Z
  • Very good location any super clean.

    Jay2019-08-02T00:00:00Z
  • We stayed in the "loft" room. Very low ceiling as advertised but with so much to do in Twilingate and surrounding areas we barely used the room. Nice little window with a view to the pier. Right beside a full bathroom. Theres a full kitchen in the main floor. Restaurants, bars, and tour companies a few steps away. Communication with the host was great! Would definitely recommend staying in the loft room if your trip to twinligate does not exceed 2-3 days. However, they have other bigger rooms and I will be sure to check them out next time I am there.

The room has a full private bathroom, which is very nice. The hosts were very welcoming and knowledgeable! We only stayed for one night unfortunately but would highly recommend and will probably return in the future for a longer stay. Thank you John and Addie! Ps. The breakfast was also fantastic!

  • Thank you Kevin and Karen for the pleasure of staying at Ches's cozy house on the sea! You have created an enduring family legacy by preserving your family home for others to enjoy. We had everything we needed here and more. Most special of all is being on the sea, the beautiful views and spectacular nearby hiking trails. We enjoyed all the photographs depicting life in this area over the years. You have created a warm and welcoming sojourn for your guests.

  • Kevin’s place is lovely—lots of charm and an absolutely incredible west-facing view of the ocean. He’s got lots of local info, plenty of room in the kitchen to cook, and is walking distance to boat tours, restaurants and a brewery. Great base from which to enjoy some beautiful hiking in Twillingate.

  • My family and I loved this place! Perfect location in a great town. The home was great, authentic Newfoundland house with a great view and right on the water. Better than we expected! Would definitely recommend to anyone!!

  • Great place! Very clean, comfortable and spacious! The view is breathtaking! Highly recommend:)

    Diana2019-08-20T00:00:00Z
  • Kevin’s place has lots of character and has an incredible view over the water. I would definitely stay here again. The ceilings are very low, I’m just under 6 feet tall and had to watch around the doorways. I didn’t have any issues and really enjoyed the house, but if you are taller than 6 feet, you will have to watch your head.

Our Newfoundland home can be your own private home away from home. Comfort and coziness abound here! This charming fishing village home features three bedrooms, one with a queen bed and two with double beds. All bedrooms are upstairs, one with an ensuite washroom and the main bathroom is located downstairs. Catch the beautiful sunsets that light up the sky and kick back feeling the worries of the world just melt away!
The house sits on a fenced property in the quaint town of Durrell; on Twillingate Island. All of our neighbours are wonderful and one of them is a shipyard where you can watch boats coming and going. We’re located on the South Island of Twillingate in Durrell. One of the most picturesque outports in Central Newfoundland. Famous for it's reputation of being the 'Iceberg Capital of the World'. As early as May these massive ice sculptures literally drift in and around the island. We often see them entering the bay from the windows and side deck. In town there are several ocean charter boats that offer different daily tours for icebergs and whale watching! Just up the street is the Auk Island Winery which produces award winning wines from local berries and is also home to a family restaurant. Be sure to visit the art galleries, gift shops and coffee shops all within a short distance from the Pumpkin House. Quite a few restaurants are open from May to September. From fine dining to good old fish and chips there’s something for everyone. A local micro-brewery serves up several varieties of quenching craft and iceberg beers on tap. The dinner theatres serve up culture, music and a good meal ! There are also several museums and the Long Point Lighthouse to visit. Learn more about the history of the wooden boat builders of Newfoundland and their museum. For outdoors adventure, there are plenty of breath-taking hikes that lead you through wilderness to the ocean's shoreline. Twillingate is about an hour and a half from the Fogo Island ferry making it quite easy to be able to enjoy a day trip to Fogo, Joe Batt's Arm and Tilting. Twillingate is in the heart of your road tripping paradise, not too far from secluded beaches and day-trip adventures!
  • Not only do you get the comforts and luxuries of home, you get an experience. The house itself is a reason to visit Twillingate. The view is stunning, and even if its cold outside, a warm cup of tea in the cutest kitchen will do you good (and of course the very efficient heaters in every room and warmest of beds) Nancy and Charlie go beyond to make sure you have the utmost best stay!

    Keith2019-09-27T00:00:00Z
  • The Pumpkin House is a one of a kind house nestled into a fishing harbour. It is in a great location for exploring the area. Nancy is a very helpful host who shares her excitement for the history of her house and the area. Her enthusiasm and welcoming touches were appreciated.

    Claire2019-09-20T00:00:00Z
  • A fabulous experience staying at the Pumpkin House. The house contains the history of the area so that in itself is a treat. The house is clean and tidy and has lovely views. Nancy is a sensational host. Outstanding hospitality and kindness.

    Jennifer2019-09-09T00:00:00Z
  • Nancy has clearly put a lot of thought and time decorating her beautiful home. Her hospitality was outstanding, as she baked fresh scones and left us a nice bottle of wine. It’s the extra little touches that make your stay extra special. She also gave us lots of great tips for what to do in the area. The beds were very comfy and all decorated in a stylish way. Would definitely love to come back here again. Thanks Nancy!

    Jenna2019-08-28T00:00:00Z
  • We loved staying at the Pumpkin House! The home is truly a wonderful step into the local culture and history of the area. Charlie, Nancy and Family have done an extraordinary job preserving the history in their restoration of the home. Nancy is a perfect host - very welcoming upon our arrival and taking the time to share the beauty of the house. Her homemade biscuits and jam are mouth-watering good! The house is perfectly located close to everything - beautiful view, lots of hikes, arts and crafts and nice restaurants. You’ll love it!

    Tracey2019-08-26T00:00:00Z
  • We loved the pumpkin house. We had an amazing experience staying on this beautiful, nicely decorated house while visiting the lovely village of Twillingate. Nancy is a great host and we delta very welcome in her house

    Denise2019-08-23T00:00:00Z
  • Pumpkin House is spectaculair, not only on the outside, with the terrace and the view. The interior is like a little museum, but with all modern appliances you might need. Muffins, wine, iceberg icecubes(!), a well equiped kitchen, these are just a few things that made us feel very welcome. If you are into something special, look no further!

    Winnifred2019-08-19T00:00:00Z
  • Words can't describe how lovely Nancy and her son Charlie are. They welcomed us with open arms. Before booking, I noted I had two small children. With their home having so many vintage pieces, they fully warned me that we are more than welcome, but to know that there are some delicate items. I was a bit nervous at first (because of the kids and wanting to be extra cautious), but having met them, they're warm welcome with homemade jam, a bottle of local wine and cookies for the kids quickly put me at ease. There is a reason why everyone gives this place great reviews! It's a beautiful home to some great hiking, quick drive into town and lovely wrap around terrace to sit wherever you like. My only regret is not staying an extra night. Thank you again Nancy and Charlie! Keep up the great work!

  • Wow! What a view! You feel like you're in the edge of the world, you won't be disappointed. Not to mention the outstanding hospitality Kevin and Ziomara offered. If you like to hike please get recommendations from Ziomara, the hikes around Twillingate were some of the best I've ever done. Thank you so much, we hope to make it back some day and see the icebergs roll in.

    Carrie2019-08-25T00:00:00Z
  • This is the best spot to stay if you want to relax and have a quiet few days. The view is just spectacular. You are right on the water and have a great view for the sunset. However looking at the view at anytime of day is amazing. It is quiet and peaceful and there is a wrap around porch that you can sit on to enjoy the view. It is very peaceful and relaxing to be here. There are hiking trails close by which you can do and very close to the restaurants and shops on the main street. Ziomara recommended Annie's to us which was a tasty place to go for dinner! The space is much bigger than my wife and I expected which was great. The washroom is modern and clean. I would definitely recommend this spot!

    Kevin2019-08-23T00:00:00Z
  • Zee and Kevin are gracious guests who excel in making sure their guests are comfortable. The lovely huge kitchen was very pleasant, with every amenity you could need. The beds are super comfy. The large wrap around deck offers beautiful views in every direction including the ocean where we would sit and watch all the activity on the water. Lots of beachcombing and hiking right outside our door without having to drive anywhere. Heat pumps in kitchen and livingroom keep the house temperatures perfect. We did not have one complaint and would return without hesitation.

    S.2019-08-18T00:00:00Z
  • Great location-walking distance to the pub and other shops, museums. Fabulous view off the large deck overlooking several small fishing docks. Nice large, well laid-out space with big kitchen and separate living room. Perfect for 2 couples. At the right time of year you might be lucky enough to find some iceberg ice in the freezer for your drinks!! Thanks so much, Kevin & Ziomara, for sharing your little piece of heaven with us!

    Mary2019-08-11T00:00:00Z
  • Ziomara and Kevin are excellent hosts! Ziomara warmly welcomed us into their spotlessly clean and charmingly appointed suite the minute we arrived. She kindly provided us with a sampling of freshly baked traditional Newfoundland pastries. A quick tour of the house, and we were on our own with our hosts close by to answer any questions. This AirBnB features a big deck with a gorgeous view of Back Harbour, which is a quiet and rustic area of Twillingate, easily accessed from the property. We were lucky to have warm, calm summer weather, and so we could better appreciate the walking trails and beaches nearby. We took advantage of the well appointed kitchen and laundry facilities, and found our bed to be very comfortable, affording us some of the best sleep we’ve had on our trip, so far. The entire suite is bright and airy, featuring many windows that look out to all directions, with emphasis toward the Back Harbour view. We would love to return to enjoy this property and setting on our next trip to Newfoundland, with thanks to our wonderful hosts. They are among the very best of Air BnB hosts we’ve had the pleasure of meeting.

Change Islands, NL Its a magical place! Accessible by coastal ferry, time stands still in this beautiful , rugged, historic place. The song Squid Jiggin Grounds was written here and we have icebergs, whales, hiking trails for all levels of hikers, a museum, an interpretation centre, the Change Islands Newfoundland Pony Santuary, the Tickle full of red stages and stores. We are 11.9 kms from the boat. Left hand side of the road. Blue bungalow. Just past the small helipad Orange Windsock
Quiet and quaint on an Island off an Island....peaceful....
Change Islands is an outport community of approximately 300 residents in the Canadian province of Newfoundland and Labrador, located between Notre Dame Bay and the Labrador Sea, on the northeast coast off the island of Newfoundland. Change Islands actually spans three small islands of the same name, two of which are populated. Each island is separated from the other by a "tickle", which is a narrow strait in Newfoundland English. The northern island (unpopulated) and middle island are separated by the North Tickle. The middle and southern islands are separated by the Main Tickle. The South Island is larger, containing more marshes/bogs, and wooded areas. The Middle Island is smaller, mostly barren, and the Northern Island is smaller yet, but unpopulated and difficult Change Islands was first settled in the early 1700's by European settlers as a series of random settlements around the islands tied to seasonal fishing activity. The town as we now know it developed into a cohesive community in the 20th century as the population gravitated towards the main tickle due to such things as resettlement, access to government services and changes in technology (ie. motorized boats). The community peaked in size in the early 1900's when it was the hub of the schooner fleet working the Labrador fishery. The residents of Change Islands have preserved many of their traditional homes, stages, and stores (fishing sheds); most of these landmarks have disappeared in much of coastal Newfoundland and Labrador with the collapse of the ground fishery. Known for its beauty, cleanliness and preservation of the past, Change Islands is the perfect place to hike, to kayak and enjoy the outdoors on an island in the ocean.
  • Friendly and very willing to help with whatever you might need.

  • Our 2 day stay at Dennis and Paula's place was as good as it gets and we've stayed in Airbnb places all over the world. The room was perfect for us. The bed is comfortable and the bathroom and shower were just fine but, what will make your stay on Change Islands even more special, is the hospitality, friendliness and kindness of Paula and Dennis. We were there on my birthday and, after a full day of exploring the island and hiking the beautiful Squid Jiggers trail, we came back to find that Paula had put up birthday decorations, baked a cake and made a fresh cod dinner for us to celebrate my birthday. Their generosity and kindness made my birthday one of the most memorable I have ever had. We fell in love with Change Islands during our brief stay there. It is quaint, picturesque, friendly and very much still a small fishing outport that is delightful to explore. Be sure to visit Pete's Olde Museum too. You'll be entertained beyond your wildest imagination. Our only regret is not having stayed longer. We would love to return and we would stay at Dennis and Paula's place again without any hesitation. Highly recommended!

  • Paula was a wonderful hostess!!! Her directions made it very easy for us to find her house, the room was very clean & comfortable, she made herself available, if we needed anything & was very welcoming & friendly. Felt like staying with friends😀😀

  • Our experience at Off da Tickle was amazing. The host went above and beyond our expectation and went out of their way to ensure our comfort during our stay. Will definitely recommend this place and we certainly will be back again.

  • Change Islands is a place to totally forget your troubles and relax in a carefree and slow paced environment. It's also exquisitely beautiful!

    Margaret2019-07-08T00:00:00Z
  • Paula and co is why I choose to use AIR BandB - Never was in doubt or question - was well cared for and thoroughly enjoyed exploring the tickle - a photographers paradise - while making some new friends

    Jane2019-06-24T00:00:00Z
  • We wish we could give Paula and Dennis more than five stars. They are thoughtful, warm, very cool and talented people. Their encyclopedic knowledge of the island and its stories added a depth to our adventure that we couldn’t have anticipated.

    Hazel2019-06-17T00:00:00Z
  • Paula and Dennis took us into their home and into their family and made us feel like we had known them forever! They took care of all of our needs and saw that our days with them were memorable in many ways!

Location within the town is great, with a nice pub across the road and convenience store.
