We welcome all kinds of guests and not just artists or writers. However, all are expected to respect the sanctity of others during their stay with us, as The Art Ichol foundation is firstly a platform for creating, sharing and showcasing the creative arts.
Art Ichol is a meeting place for like-minded people, yet one can easily find sanctuary in one’s own company. The name for the foundation is inspired by the neighbouring quaint village of Ichol.
With its specialized infrastructure and varied venues, Art Ichol poses itself as an unmatched artists’ residency and work space. It is therefore ideal even for long term and extended stays.
The foundation offers the unique proposition of its 3 estates, each having their own experience. The Ichol Art center has uniquely re-imagined interiors. It comprises of an art gallery, metal casting workshop, an open air sculpture park, fiber glass studio, stone & wood carving work space, painters’ room and art café. There are 4 cozy rooms in the art residency with a fully furnished kitchen for one’s convenience. Strategically located on the Maihar highway it is accessible and well connected yet unperturbed.
The second is the Maihar Heritage Home that basks in quietude and comfort. On sunny mornings among chirping birds one can sit in its many corners or dabble with clay at the ceramic and pottery center. The bungalow is in the middle of an ancient town brimming with folklore and sanctimonious temples. Maihar has an old palace and is the hometown of the famous Baba Allauddin Khan and his legendary band.
These apart, the writers’ cottage Amariya is a glorious getaway. Set on the idyllic banks of the river Tamas one can drown in its blissful silence and stillness. Here the aged mango groves, nearby bridge and watch tower are all one’s companions. Its meandering river turn is the perfect fishing spot and a photographers’ delight at sunset.
Maihar is nestled at the edge of the Deccan plateau. This is a land rich in cultural heritage, diverse in landscape and verdant in scenic beauty & wildlife. Two hours from the Khajuraho temples, Maihar lies within the reach of several worthy destinations. The Panna and Bandhavgarh Tiger Reserves are world wildlife hotspots, famous for their flora and fauna. A town seeped in cultural antiquity, Maihar is unique in topography with plateaus, rivers and hillocks. It is famed for its Sharda Devi shakti-peeth temple. There are many hidden treasures to be explored in and around here. Ichol lies 8 kms from Maihar on the highway. Tranquil in its surroundings, it’s an ideal getaway for relaxation, rejuvenation and creative inspiration.
