  • If you are looking for a true Sri Lankan homestay experience, this is the place for you. From a warm welcome, with freshly cut coconut, genuine hospitality really shone through our stay. We really enjoyed a delicious Sri Lankan home-cooked meal, and talking with Vimal and his family. Vimal has great knowledge of things to see and do in and around the local area. We fully recommend this homestay to all you future travellers to Mannar..

  • We had a lovely time staying at Vimal's place. He and his family go out of their way to make the stay of the guests as comfortable as possible. Their hospitality is amazing and so is their willingness to help. Highly recommended.

  • Vimalathasan’s place was a great experience for us. Beautiful home and such a lovely, kind, welcoming family! Very generous and accommodating. Vimal’s youngest daughter has a laugh and excitement that will brighten your days. We felt comfortable and safe. Here we at the most delicious meals we had in our two months in Sri Lanka! They were beyond delicious. Mannar is a lovely place to explore and visit. We highly recommend Vimal’s homestay.

  • Vimal & family served up a brilliant dinner and breakfast, and great conversation as well. Our private room with attached private bathroom were quite satisfactory. bed was comfortable and we slept well. This was a very personable homestay style place and we highly recommend it if you're looking to meet some really great down to earth local folks.

  • I would highly recommend a stay with Vimal. His family's hospitality is outstanding and the food sublime - some of the best cooking I've had in Sri Lanka. Dinners are cheap with huge amounts of food, $5 US. His children are cute and friendly, and his baby daughter is particularly adorable.

A quiet spot to hang out with a group and explore Mannar Island. Price is per double room with attached bathroom and there are ten rooms available.
Lawrence’s is a big place. Spread over 3 acres, it offers ten double rooms and two family rooms, each with private bathroom. There’s a big, common living room, a dining area and a garden full of fruit trees. When we were there we bumped into a calf that was munching on some mangoes, we saw guineafowls and many pigeons. A nice natural feel this place has.
Those to search for Mannar on travel website wikitravel will find… nothing. Cool. That's a Neverbeen location for you right there. Sure, Mannar is not a reason to fly to Sri Lanka, but it sure is worth a visit if you like a trip off the beaten path. Sri Lanka's bridgehead of the Adam's Bridge, a sand bank that connects India and Sri Lanka, Mannar was accessible by foot from India until a storm washed away parts of the bank a few hundred years ago. Famous for it's mules, Baobab trees, pearl fishing and remnants of early Portuguese and Dutch occupation, Mannar offers a good mix of cultural and natural highlights to spend a good few days. Do not expect luxury tourism options though, as this region was occupied by the LTTE until 2009 has only been opened up to tourists a few years ago. So it's all yours. When we visited Mannar was going through one of the worst floods in decades. We'll never forget the sight of that village in the distance, all it's pink houses rising straight out of the water... Lawrence's villa itself is located in Thoddaveli, some 8 kilometres North of Mannar town. Mannar Lagoon, the Railway station and Keeri beach are all a short drive away.
  • Mr. Lawrence is the place to be for bird watching. He knows his birds and where to find them. Spoonbills, Painted Storks, Scarlett Ibis. Great time with Mr. Lawrence.

  • Nice place to stay, good lunch, helpfull stuff, nice beach 3km away.

  • Perfect place to chill, rent a scooter or let Laurence take you on a tour of mannar island. Really good food and it is really nicely situated.

    Thibault2017-07-09T00:00:00Z
  • We had a nice stay at Thoddaveli Four Teess Inn, just opposite the station. The few trains that pass are excact in time an give less noise. Lawrence is a friendly host, man from the clock, helpful and a wonderful guide with his tuktuk. With his staff he served us all the meals we wanted. The surroundings are beautiful and we have NEVER BEEN on such a naturally special place in Sri Lanka.

Truly the best of both worlds Experience Sri Lankan colonial touch in a double room overlooking a leafy garden and a spotlessly clean private bathroom. The house of this Sri Lankan-Polish couple offers easy access to the beach, Mannar Fort and other tourist attractions. Bikes are the best way to explore the little town, meet its residents and feel like a local.
Truly the best of both worlds. Sri Lanka was once the Indian Ocean’s emporium. And Mannar, renowned in ancient times for pearl fishing, was its trading center. After a century of obscurity, Mannar is again reconnecting to the world. This AirBnB-run by a Sri Lankan– Polish couple living and working in the area for a long time -is a testament to that transformation. The double room is basic, tastefully decorated, spotlessly clean and includes a private bathroom. The room overlooks a garden with 4 leafy mango trees where you can relax, hear the birds chirp and enjoy a warm, breezy tropical weather. Located in a quiet little corner of Mannar, the house offers easy access to the beach, town, Mannar Fort and other tourist attractions.Giant Tank in supposed to be one of the best places in South-East Asia for bird watching. Possibility of arranging cooking classes, motorbike tours and saree draping lessons. Bikes are the most convenient way to explore the little town, meet its residents and feel like a local.
Eating places and a bakery round the corner. Can offer meals or connect to other Sri Lankan families in the neighbourhood where one can experience truly authentic Sri Lankan cuisine( less spicy if desired)

Built over 50 years ago as one of Mannar town’s most prominent homes, Sam’s may have lost some of it’s shine, but none of it’s character. A nice place this is, with a comfy room for guests, plus a garden, balcony and a kitchen for you to use. No wifi though.

Adams Bridge Kitesurf resort is located at Mannar Island. The natural bridge of sanbars between Sri Lanka and India makes it a perfect kite spot. The wind season runs from June until September with 20 plus knots, flat and waist deep water. In our eco cabanas we offer shared as well as private accommodation. The price of the accommodation is full board.
The resort is surrounded by a protected wild life area. Off water activities include Walpittu National park, Mannar and Anuradhapura.
Great for nature lovers and water sport.
  • Marc was an excellent host. Made us feel very welcome and went out of his way to show us around this beautiful and remote location. The grounds were rustic but beautiful and had everything you could want, including peacocks and a sweet dog named Stumpy, who joined us one day on a long walk to Adams Bridge. Marc has done an amazing job building beautiful Cabanas with thatched roofs and keeping it all tastefully simple. We feel very lucky to have visited this island in its infancy as a tourist destination (we seemed to be the only tourists there!). Highly recommended!

  • We were very curious about our visit to Mannar in Marc. The reports of lots of space and excellent wind conditions were not exaggerated! The camp itself is still in the development stage, but we were there even before the "official" opening. The bungalows are simple but clean and very airy, so that you can sleep on comfortable mattresses super. It is completely undisturbed and has a lot of space. And I love the Outdoor Showers in the open air (but it is good before all eyes protected). A French / Portuguese chef prepares great food, what does not come naturally to such a remote place. Unfortunately, he was not willing to betray us a few of his great secret recipes (maybe later ...). Marc and his team took care of around the clock around us. He showed us 2 great spots for kiting + windsurfing (there's more ...). For beginners this is an ideal entry-level ground, as you can endlessly be far in the water. On the south side there are also waves. We were just very briefly there, but we come as soon as possible.

During your stay, you will be taken on a guided village walk, watch the sunset over a tank filled with lily pads and listen to stories of village life. We make tailored programs for each guest based on how long they wish to stay.
The rooms are simple; comfy sleeping mats and pillows with a big insect net. There is an indoor shower, but the outside one is our favorite. There is nothing quite as nice as showering under the branches of a wood apple tree. All your meals will be prepared locally by families in the village. Traditional breakfasts and barbecues are guest favorites.
Not far North of Wilpattu, hidden away from the tourist action, you will find a village called Kunchukulam. By day, the streets of Kunchukulam are filled with local people going about their day to day life: visiting neighbours, going to school, collecting water, grazing their goats. By night, the streets of Kunchukulam are taken over by elephants, out looking for a juicy banana or wood apple to feast on.
