  • This place is a gem! Lawrence designed the whole house himself with sustainability in mind! Lawrence was extremely accommodating and made us feel right at home! It gets a little chilly in the winter so bring an extra sweater and fluffy socks :) Lawrence also personalized some recommendations for us! The night sky’s from this place was magical and we wouldn’t hesitate to come back and stay for longer next time!

  • Great place, amazing views!

    Deepikaa2020-03-17T00:00:00Z
  • I really loved this place and the town Highly recommend as a place to stay if traveling to death valley.. It is just on the other side of death valley. I saw some AMAZING views on that drive that I wouldn't have if I wasn't heading to Lone Pine. I also stopped to get dinner at their cute downtown strip at seasons which was in the hosts guidebook. Really cute comfortable place and I would go again!

    Michelle2020-03-11T00:00:00Z
  • Perfect location for Death Valley and Mt. Whitney excursions if you’re trying to go for both. The cabin is in a quiet and secluded area and perfect for 2 people. The couch will fold out to accommodate 1-2 more if needed. Kitchen is fully equipped and the bathroom is also good. The only downside was the hot water situation - it seems to be just enough for a real quick shower for two people. It’s workable if you shower very fast. Overall, a great place to stay!

    Mardan2020-03-09T00:00:00Z
  • We had a great time visiting Eastern Sierra staying at Kevin's cabin. Everything was great about the place.

Welcome to Darwin. We are a remote desert town located in S. Inyo County with a population of 30-40 residents. We are a friendly town with displays of art work all around. We have a post office and land lines, no cell or wifi (you can read about that when you scroll down). Sitting on the porch at Buck's cabin there is desert as far as you can see in every direction. Come bring your bikes and ride out in the desert. The wild flowers are beginning to bloom. Come spend a week and relax at Buck's.
We have a one bed (queen), one full bath, with shower that is wheel chair friendly. All door ways are 36" wide. Fully furnished kitchen with appliances and cook ware. Microwave, toaster oven, four burner stove top, coffee maker, refrigerator. Tiled floors throughout. Radiant heating under the floors with each room having it's own thermostat. It has 6" double insulated walls and double paned windows, which makes the cabin an warm and cozy place to hunker down in the winter. It has cooling fans, cooling system and a wonderful afternoon breeze. Also a beautiful view of the high desert in every direction.
You can buy a postage stamp in Darwin as far a businesses this is the only one. A must is a walk around town to look at the many artistic displays by locals. A chat with a local, everyone is friendly. A morning cup of coffee on the porch in a rocker chair and a view. Their are many old machines and cars located through out town. Enjoy!
  • I’m realizing that I will probably be the last guest to stay at the cabin for a while due to the Corona virus pandemic. That is a shame because I would come back to stay here in a heartbeat. The cabin was spacious, warm, clean & bright & the view from the kitchen sink/covered porch was to die for! Loved all the handcrafted elements, the doors, walls, cabinets & other unique touches. The sunsets, starlight nights & utter peace & quiet save for the odd jackrabbit hopping across the street were glorious. I really enjoyed meeting some of the local artists, you can see their work scattered around town. This place is seriously off the beaten path. No cell or WiFi service & nearest gas/stores are in Lone Pine. Bring all your food with you, the kitchen is amply equipped for cooking.

  • Jody's cabin was perfect for our weekend trip to Death Valley. It's quiet, clean, and cozy. The view of the night sky was beautiful and you can watch the sunset from the porch. Jody was a great host. It was lovely to get away in the little settlement of Darwin and enjoy the high desert.

    Eva2020-03-15T00:00:00Z
  • Good Death Valley alternative to expensive hotels. Easy check in and nice interior. As Jody mentions in the description, don’t expect cell service, WiFi, gas or restaurants nearby.

    Sean2020-03-08T00:00:00Z
  • Jody’s cabin exceeded our expectations in every way. It was extremely clean, comfortable, and had many personal and cute touches. It was a perfect location for our short stay in Death Valley. I didn’t have the chance to meet Jody, but she was an excellent communicator and prompt with responding to emails. I highly recommend staying at her cabin and I would definitely stay there again.

    Rebecca2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • The cabin is cozy, quiet, clean and provides a remote oasis. Jody is a fabulous host and makes sure everything is understood and ready for your visit. I recommend staying in Buck’s and Darwin to explore this unique part of California. Make sure you make time to enjoy the stars and enjoy some meals in this cozy cabin.

    Erika2020-02-19T00:00:00Z
  • My boyfriend and I stayed at Buck’s cabin while visiting Death Valley natl. park and it was great! Darwin is a really cute town and so is this cabin. There’s a full kitchen, heated floors, and lots of charm. The only thing I’d change would be the cell service, this was a little too much disconnect for us! But obviously that’s out of Jody’s control. Anyway, I would definitely stay here again! Great proximity to the park.

    Kelsee2020-02-10T00:00:00Z
  • Jody's place is well situated next to Death Valley. It's the perfect location to stay when visiting the national park. It's spotless and charming. The checkin process was smooth and painless. Jody responded to every question and request very quickly. She provided everything that we needed for a comfortable stay. I hope to have the opportunity to stay at her cabin again in the future. Thank you, Jody!!

  • Buck's cabin is a great place to stay at a base for exploring Death Valley. Only about 30 minutes to Darwin Falls and 90 minutes to Furnace Creek/ heart of the national park. Great star gazing and very quiet place. Very cozy and comfortable. All basic cookware at the house. Loved the heated floors made it a perfect indoor temperature in the winter.

The family is super friendly and helpful. The binder with the tips made such a difference on out travel. if I did not read it I would have never discovered Alabama hills or Japanese detention center museum. Highly recommend!!

  • The Bohemian Blue was a great base camp for a three generation, grandfather, father, son trip! We visited the Cerro Gordo silver mine, trekked to the Mt Whitney trailhead and did a ski day at Mammoth! The location was great and the house was perfect. A stop for breakfast at the Alabama Hills cafe is a must while you are in Lone Pine!

Nearby attractions include: Death Valley - 1 hour (Trona is the nearest town on the California side) Trona Pinnacles - 30 minutes Red Rock Canyon - 1 hour Randsburg Mining District - 30 minutes Mt Whitney - 2 hours Off Roading - everywhere Numerous other local attractions including the annual Gem & Mineral Show.
  • Staying in Trona is a good option before a visit to Death Valley. This home has three large bedrooms and two large bathrooms. Three couples could easily use it, at a small fraction of the cost of lodging within the park. We found it to be tasteful, extremely comfortable and clean. We had no problem checking in and out using a lockbox and the combination provided by the owner with the reservation confirmation. The kitchen was large and comfortable; a nearby market had basics but if you want to cook you might be best served bringing food with you. The yard is very large and my young son happily played in it for two hours. Patchy grass, but it is a near desert! A recent January 2020 reviewer expressed concern that there was no carbon monoxide detector. That was a legitimate concern, but it has been remedied. A brand new CO detector is installed and it is apparently working fine (I tried the test button). The January reviewer also found the garden cluttered; that was either picky or related to a now resolved issue. The January reviewer also did not like the firewood; I find that fairly picky....I would not generally expect to be provided with firewood of any type. If you have time, you might visit the Trona Pinnacles, a federally protected 'natural monument.' Google it. From Trona to the main attraction (Death Valley National Park) is a beautiful drive of 45 minutes to an hour. "Trails Drive In" restaurant is just a few blocks away from the house. It has the appearance and menu of a fast food place, but is actually quite well reviewed online so we tried it out. The chicken burrito was lean and delicious. The pastrami cheeseburger was quite good, too. There was a chicken salad special. Try the place. Founded 1958.

  • Great location in the heart of Trona, CA. Large kitchen area and eating space and very spacious bedrooms that could easily be shared with people. Jerry and his property manager were very nice and communicative when we had issues with the bathroom, and were very prompt to respond.

    Christine2020-01-17T00:00:00Z
  • Jerry’s home was a comfortable stay for the night for our family with three small kids. We stopped for the night before our next day trip into Death Valley and it was a great location for access there and neighboring Darwin Falls. No cell coverage in the area but the house has fast internet. Comfortable beds, clean living space, plenty of space to relax. Do yourself a favor and take a moment to enjoy the night sky from the enclosed backyard!

This family-friendly motel features a horseshoe pit and fire pit for guest enjoyment. Mount Olancha is 25 minutes’ drive away. Rooms offer mountain views. A small fridge is provided in the rooms and microwave in the lobby at Rustic Oasis Motel. A barbecue area and a picnic area are onsite at the Motel Rustic Oasis. Guests can enjoy mountain views while relaxing with their family. Sequoia National Forest is less than 2 hours’ drive from the motel. Owens Lake is 10 miles away.
This motel is about as close as you can come to authentic western Americana. The Rustic Oasis Motel is a family owned motel with just eight rooms. It has survived when a lot of places like this were torn down to make room for bigger motels and concrete parking lots. Our Rustic sign out front next to Hwy 395 is a testament to this motels survival, it has gone through rough times, the sign has been battered, but it still stands tall. People pull over on the side of the road daily in their cars to get a photograph of it, it is a landmark for this area. We have beautiful mountains in front and behind us. We have no smog and the sky is blue, and at night you can see the stars. We are in the high desert and it is beautiful here. Some people think this area is spiritual or magical, we think it could be both. We are a simple motel and a peaceful place. The most special thing about our motel is the guests. They are the adventurers, lovers of nature, searchers , and weary travelers. With out them we would not exist.
  • Lovely place, really felt like a place with a soul. The room was clean and cozy. The bed was super comfortable! Beautiful and strategic location near Death Valley.

  • If you need privacy, a kitchen, room for a family, and a view of the Sierras for your trip to the Lone Pine region and Death Valley, I recommend Keeler House without qualms. Be prepared for an an authentic experience, not a slick corporate package. Spotlessly clean and homey, a kitchen furnished with a miscellany of equipment and a big coffeepot and plenty of mugs. I only regret we could not stay longer to take more advantage.

    Tereza2020-03-16T00:00:00Z
  • The Keeler house was an excellent choice for our trip to Death Valley. It is on the way from I-395 and much more reasonably priced than the resorts in the park. We're happy with our stay and would recommend this place for other folks visiting the park.

    Charles2020-03-12T00:00:00Z
  • Sharon's space is very cozy and comfortable and heats quickly when the furnace is turned on. The local magazines and brochures she leaves on the coffee tables are quite helpful. The views of the Eastern Sierra are amazing! Groceries and gas are available in nearby Lone Pine, and the hikes in the nearby Alabama Hills - especially Mobius Arch, with Mount Whitney and the Eastern Sierra hovering overhead - are amazing!

  • Sharons place is great, it’s very close to the western entrance of Death Valley and about 13 minutes from the nearest town. The house itself was very nice, it had everything you could need. The view of the mountains outside was simply stunning. I would highly recommend Sharon’s place to anyone looking for a place to stay in the area.

  • Sharon’s place is very cozy, and it’s a great bonus that you can see the breathtaking starry night sky right in front of the house! Wish we had more time to spare at this lovely place. Sharon has been very considerate to keep the heater and light on for us since we arrived quite late.

  • We stayed at Reo’s Ranch previously and had such a great time that we came back again for a brief vacation. Mike & Diana’s place was perfect for the six of us. Their home is very spacious and allowed each couple to have their own bedroom and bathroom. The large kitchen was well stocked and roomy enough to let several people work in it at the same time. The living room was great for watching tv, playing games, and listening to music by the cozy fireplace. And the downstairs game room with ping pong and pool tables made for lots of fun times. The Alabama Hills location is fabulous, with spectacular views and lots of things to do outdoors, and numerous sites to see and explore. And it’s not too far from other wonderful sites. Definitely would come back again!

  • Stayed here for two nights with my sister and dogs for our birthday— it was fantastic! Such a beautiful property with amazing views out of every window. Super peaceful. We spent a day at Death Valley NP— perfect base for that!

    Ashley2020-02-26T00:00:00Z
  • Spectacular views and hiking right out your backyard! Very close to town but far enough away to escape the noise to enjoy privacy and peace. This house was very well-stocked and labeled for easy navigation throughout. Very clean inside with ample space and plenty to do on site. I didn’t mind cooking every night on vacation with the gorgeous kitchen and views outside the kitchen windows! We can’t wait to come back to this exact house year after year!

  • We had a great stay. The view is beautiful and the house was sparkling clean! Mike and Diana were very accommodating and quick to reply! Would definitely recommend

  • A magical place! The house had so many thoughtful touches. We highly recommend.

    Amanda2020-02-13T00:00:00Z
  • As you can tell from the rave reviews, this is a wonderful place to stay!! The house is equipped with everything you could want-- the pool table was our favorite. We also really appreciated how easy it was to be in touch with Mike and Diana with any questions. A couple of things that we would like to add for future travelers: if you enjoy OHVs, there are areas to ride off of Movie Road (really close by) that are absolutely beautiful! There is also something particularly magical about walking quietly at night, under the stars (or in our case, a full moon!) around the property. We saw jack rabbits, quail, and doves during our stay. Our dogs LOVED the home and property and give it a solid 5 stars!

    Haley2020-02-09T00:00:00Z
  • This house is in such a beautiful location and has everything you could need to make your stay comfortable. We had planned to visit Death Valley from there, but decided to stay in the area to see the local sights in the Alabama Hills. You could simply sit on the front deck or on the property and never feel the need to leave. I can't say enough good things about it - and such a great value.

Offered here is a gorgeous modern retreat situated amidst three acres of rock spires, huge boulders and stunning views. Across the street is open space and hiking trails where you can wander and explore for hours. It's a magical place with artistic flare and utter serenity, close to Mt. Whitney. The house offers sprawling decks, Wi-Fi, Wolf range, gas BBQ and gas fire pit.
The house is a pristine prefab modern home on three secluded acres set amidst rock spires and huge boulders from the Jurassic, between 140-200 million years ago. It's located at 4,600' elevation where spectacular desert meets the eastern escarpment of the Sierra Nevada. The elegance and comfort you'll find inside make for a welcome contrast to the rugged surroundings. Creature comforts include a new heating and A/C system and electric fireplace. All glass is double-pane. The home is wrapped by a sprawling deck - every room has a sliding door leading outside, so indoor and outdoor living flow together. The flooring is hardwood floors except in the bedrooms, and the deck is made of a soft synthetic material that you can walk on in bare feet. The bedrooms and living areas are well-appointed with stylish furniture. The kitchen has a Wolf range, dishwasher, microwave and coffeemaker and French press. There's a separate laundry room with washer and dryer. Outside features a gas fire pit and built-in gas BBQ. The home has free WI-FI and a large-screen TV with a Roku device for Netflix or Amazon streaming, and a collection of DVD's (cable TV isn't available in Lone Pine). As you look out from any room your gaze will be captivated by magnificent rocks and towering mountains - the Inyos to the east and Sierra to the west. Across the street is parkland. There's fishing withing a 5 minute drive. Whitney Portal is only 20 minutes away. Some of the most beautiful rock formations are those on and around the property. From the front deck you see Whale Rock, a spire that looks like a breaching whale. At the edge of the rear deck you’re standing beneath Massive Rock, an 80-foot monolith. Stroll up the hill and you can sit on a boulder and look at Mt. Whitney, highest point in the 48 states.
Amazing location in the Alabama Hills above Lone Pine. Across the street from parkland. Great trout fishing within five minutes. Only 15 minutes from Whitney Portal - perfect base camp for a mountain trip. Close to Movie Flat, where hundreds of films were made.
  • Doug is an amazing host! Quickly answers questions and gives great local tips for things to do/see. His place is one of the most thoughtful Airbnb’s we’ve experienced. The scenery is absolutely amazing and amidst these trying times in our country, during COVID-19 my husband and I were able to feel like we could get away and still feel safe.

    Trish2020-03-20T00:00:00Z
  • Dougs place was not only beautiful, but it’s location in the rock formations was a beautiful back drop for the perfect place for our family of 5. It was very clean, open, bright, and comfortable. It was also nicely decorated with views from every room. The wrap around deck was perfect to enjoy the views of both the Inyo and Sierra Nevada Mtns., along with the amazing rock formations. The deck was safe enough to let our 2 yr old twins to run around and we could step off the deck and let the kids climb the boulders. We felt it was less like an Airbnb and more like a friends home. Everything was well stocked from kitchen essentials to extra towels. The communication with Doug was prompt and he had great recommendations. We feel lucky to have found this place!

    Krista2020-03-15T00:00:00Z

  • Perfect retreat. Quiet and private. So close to the beautiful Alabama Hills. Being able to bring my dog was such a great bonus. Loved this place!

    Deanna2020-03-04T00:00:00Z
  • This is a great house...very clean, very comfortable and in a spectacular setting. The house is across the road from a really gorgeous hike, and very close to town. The location is very private and very beautiful. And Doug was very responsive and helpful. We loved it!

    Mark2020-02-23T00:00:00Z
  • Exactly as described. We expect to return here - though it tends to be booked much of the time.

    Brian2020-02-21T00:00:00Z
  • Dougs place will knock your socks off. Views of the Eastern Sierras from the property make this a brilliant stay. House is spotless and we used the well-equipped kitchen to make every meal during our time here. Late afternoon snacks by the fire pit watching the sunset were followed by dinner in the dining space with stunning boulder views. The bathtub in the master suite with skylight & views a must-do. We went to the local visitors center and were helped by a very knowledgeable guide-hiker—there is a great walk in the Alabama Hills a short drive from the house. Amazing country. We hope to come back to Doug’s place!

  • We really enjoyed spending a night in this great chalet. The environment is fantastic, the silence and the rocks inspired us. The chalet is furnished with love, a fully equipped kitchen, comfortable beds and a great view from the balconies. The nearest town is easy to reach by car. We had a great stay. This is the perfect base for all your Eastern Sierra adventures. A ten minute drive from the charming town of Lone Pine. Our two bedroom house is equipped with everything you'll need for a weekend away or an extended stay. The one acre garden with mature trees offers many private hangout spots and wonderful views in every season.
Every detail of this artist's house has been carefully chosen.
The Alabama Hills neighborhood may be the most beautiful place to live in the Owens Valley. Perched 1000 feet above the valley floor it's bordered to the North and East by the Alabama Hills rock formations. To the West are unobstructed views of the majestic Sierra Nevada range, revealing many of its tallest peaks including the highest mountain in the contiguous United States, Mount Whitney. From the property, you have walking access to miles of trails among the boulders of the Alabama Hills in an area seldomly visited by tourists. Diaz Creek, Tuttle Creek and many other creeks traverse the landscape, drawing ribbons of green through the desert chaparral. The charming town of Lone Pine is a 6-minute drive down the hill, and is the place to go for coffee, food, gas, and supplies.
  • Sarah's house is truly an oasis. It was clean, cozy and really felt like a home away from home. We loved our stay, and wish we could have stayed longer. Over the course of three days, I didn't drive once - Just hung out at the house and birdwatched after hiking from the house. Also the backyard is EPIC! Thanks, Sarah!

  • A true hidden gem. It’s a bit of a hike to get out to Lone Pine and then to actually get out to the home hidden in the Alabama Hills, but it is WELL worth it. I almost don’t want to tell anyone about it it’s so good. The aesthetic is incredible, WiFi signal is strong, views are beyond. Can’t recommend it more highly.

  • We had a great weekend at Sarah’s place. Nothing can beat the unobstructed view of the sunrise over the snowy Eastern Sierras... from your front yard. The house is warm and comfortable, full of thoughtful details. We loved spending time in the garden, and how close it was from the main street in Lone Pine as well as from the Alabama Hills and Whitney Portal. Absolutely recommended!

  • Every once in a while, we come across an amazing place, this was one. Mt Whitney is a beautiful mountain. The Alabama Hills are magical. If you're into exploring mines or ghost towns, Cerro Gordo is a hop skip and a jump, and Big Pine is just North of the area. The views from the house are breathtaking! Highly recommended!
  • Great place to stay.

The property is located at 6000' at the base of the Sierras. It's 8 miles from town on 400 acres. This is a county-approved short term vacation rental. The Mount Whitney trailhead is 10 miles away. The views are amazing and the Sierra are in the "backyard." It is nature at its best. Visitors leave feeling refreshed and nurtured. Off the grid. Map available.
This house is located on 400 acres in the Eastern Sierra foothills outside of Lone Pine. It is close to Mt. Whitney, the tallest mountain in the contiguous 48 states and a destination for climbers. Other local attractions include Horseshoe Meadows, Cottonwood Lakes, Lake Diaz, Death Valley, and Onion Valley. There is access to the Pacific Crest Trail at several points in the Owens Valley. The house is large and comfortable. This is the perfect place to make a base camp for exploring the area, or to have a quiet retreat. The views are beyond compare. This is a very rural area and wildlife abounds. You may see deer, quail, or bobcat.
The house is at the end of a mile long dirt road. There other full-time residents on the acreage but no neighborhood to speak of.
  • Great old-school place! Love the DVDs

  • Our 4 family members stayed here 3 nights, visiting Death Valley, Alabama Hills and the area of Lone Pine. The location of the house provides incredible views. And the starry night sky was breathtaking in the totally dark sky. The house was very comfortable and clean. The kitchen had everything we needed to prepare meals and mornings & evenings on the porches were pleasant. Our visit occurred during the record heat wave and we’d been concerned that the listing indicates no AC. However, there is an Evaporative Cooler that works very well at keeping the house comfortable during the day until the outside temperature cooled in the evening. Then open windows were perfect. I communicated multiple times with Jessica and she was always quick to respond. We enjoyed our stay here.

  • Great location for a getaway. It’s very serene the night views are awesome! We were here to hike Mt Whitney and being higher elevation than town certainly helped. We had all four major cell carriers represented in the group. T-Mobile had great reception while the others were spotty. I’d stay again for sure!

  • Doroethy’s place was one of the most incredible homes I have been to. The land alone is just breathtaking, right at the base of Mt. Whitney, only a stones throw away from lone pine town and Alabama hills. Doroethy and Jessica went above and beyond accommodating us so we could have an amazing time. The home itself took us so off guard, it was so much better than we expected, the pictures do not do it justice. Being able to wake up and watch the sunrise over the mountains without even leaving bed was really cool, that A-Frame room Is so darn cozy! The views from every room of the house are beyond words, the couch and beds were super comfy and the house was decorated with such tranquil and thoughtful touches. You can really feel energetically how much love does into this space. But above everything our favorite part of the home was that GIGANTIC T.V. And VHS player!!!! Ending our night with ET and Edward scissor hands by the fire after a long day hiking was such a treat!

  • Doroethy’s place was an excellent home base for our group before hiking Mt Whitney. It was clean, spacious and had amazing views!
