Places to stay in Plevna
Stay in one of three unique, rustic little cabins at Mosque Lake: Hilltop, Pioneer and Lakeside. Each cabin has a kitchenette/dinning room, bedroom, living space and bathroom (toilet and cold water sink) in an open space style. All cabins have electricity but no heat sources. Nights start to get cold in late August . Bring lots of warm clothes for layers and extra blankets for sleeping (a winter hat for sleeping). Bring your own water toys, ATV and hiking gear. Fishing license a must!
Seasonal rental : typically mid April (depends on spring thaw) to mid October (depends on frost). Sleeping Arrangements - bunk beds - top bunk single - bottom bunk double mattress - bring all bedding, pillows and towels (we provide mattress covers) Each cabin has: - deck space - BBQ (we provide propane, utensils) - mugs, glasses, plates, bowls, utensils - coffee maker, kettle, stove (with oven), European style fridge/freezer (narrower and shorter than standard American/Canadian) - kitchen table, counter space and each cabin has a unique layout of extra living space - dish soap - nightly composting program - garbage and recycle collection - toilet paper (nothing else goes in the toilets as we are on septic system) - water from a well (safe to cook with, bring spring water for drinking to avoid the well taste) - access to a separate hot water shower (shared among the three cabins). What you can do when here: - hike the ATV trails - swim (beach shallow entry and deep dock entry) - bring a bike, canoe, motorboat or kayak (no we don’t have any on site) - fish (must have an Ontario fishing license) - explore the local area (closest town Ompah is 13 minutes away and Plevna is 17) - day trip to Ottawa - relax and enjoy the call of the loons and the amazing stars - yoga on the dock You should bring: - all bedding, pillows - towels (beach, bath and tea) - food - spring water - variety of clothes for different weather - card games (we have some) - flashlights for getting around at night - shampoo and conditioner and soap - bathing suits, sunblock and bug jackets or bug spray (sorry but that is a reality for May, June and July ... it’s why we can catch lots of fish) - whatever else you need to have an amazing vacation Extra information: - well behaved healthy dogs are welcome (not allowed on furniture) - dogs must be leashed when outside (except when swimming) - humans must scoop dog poop - ticks have started to arrive in the region. Be aware and check your dogs, children and self The owners and your on site hosts (Bob and Sue) live nearby and will welcome you and give you a tour of the area. Bob makes a mean bonfire and will start one for any guests. The bonfire pit is shared among all cabins for fire safety. This is not a party location.
Remote location. Yes there are neighbours nearby, however these cabins are off the beaten path!
  • 1 word, wow! The fall colours were amazing! We enjoyed every moment of our stay!! I can’t believe how absolutely amazing this place it! A small piece of heaven off the beaten path! Absolutely perfect! Thanks so much!

  • This little place is amazing. The bay provides beautiful sunset. The cabin is clean, quiet and very well-maintained. You can see that a lot of work is undergo to continue improving this corner of paradise - very hardworking people. We will ret this place again.

  • The hosts are the most welcoming and generous ones I've ever seen. Their cabin is a wonderful place you are looking for to experience relaxing and great moments. The place is cozy, clean with a fantastic view of the lake. I will definitely plan to visit them again.

  • This is one of my favourite destinations. A quiet, peaceful, beautiful spot not too far from Ottawa to enjoy the outdoors. Has everything you need and more. Is always spotless when I arrive. Sue and Bob are amazing.

  • We stayed in the Lakeside Cabin and it was AWESOME. So cute & cozy!!! The view is FANTASTIC. It’s very hard to describe how amazing this place is with words… You simply MUST go and see it for yourself! We stayed 4 nights my husband, our 6 years old son and our 2 dogs and I wish we would have stayed a full week. Bob & Sue are so friendly, they are GREAT host! You can see them walking around and always ready for a little chat. OH! Don’t miss Bob’s amazing bonfire, it’s a must! All in all, this place is basically a little piece of paradise. We can’t wait to go back again, and we would highly recommend this lovely place to everyone.

  • Our Lakeside cabin was terrific. It was cute, cozy and overlooked gorgeous Mosque Lake. We enjoyed meeting the other guests but were able to have lots of private time. (We were on our honeymoon)! We fished with our puppy in our canoe (with no luck) , enjoyed swimming and did a bit of scuba diving! The dock was lovely, peaceful and was the perfect setting to put our feet up and read. The location was great and we took a drive into nearby Perth to enjoy the quaint town and do a little shopping. Bob and Sue were terrific hosts and we hope to return next year for our first anniversary!

    Jacqueline2019-08-19T00:00:00Z
  • What a special place! Words can not describe how beautiful this lake is. The cabin was small, quaint and exactly what we needed. We can not wait to come back again.

  • This cabin was a nice clean and cozy getaway from the city. It is really close to the lake. We had a really good time as the cabin comes with all the essentials needed to make your stay comfortable. Will come back for sure!

  • The explorer cabin exceeded our expectations by a mile. My girlfriend and I booked the cabin when we were looking for a last minute cottage getaway and didn’t know what to initially expect, but we were blown away. Every penny you pay is certainly worth it for this cabin. You absolutely will not find a better deal for what it is. The actual cabin was much larger than we expected. The bedroom on the main floor was quite large and had a nice bed with tons of space to hang up clothes. The living area/kitchen had everything you could possibly need to cook any meal just like you do at home. The bathroom was huge and had an awesome shower with hot water that never acted up and stayed hot for as long as you needed. The up stairs loft was just an extra treat for us, since it was just the two of us staying there. It had more than ample space to host at least 3 other people, and was a nice addition to the interior of the cabin. For us it became a nice place to relax and play some guitar when the sun went down. The front deck was the perfect size for us, and came with an awesome and clean bbq which we did a lot of our cooking on. It also had a nice little dinner table with an umbrella when we could sit down and eat outside in comfort. The cabin was nicely nestled in a fairly shaded area so it was a nice temperature inside at all times even though it was hot outside. Both the back and front docks were amazing and we had a great time swimming in the lake and relaxing on our rafts. Overall, we recommend this cabin to everyone, it definitely checked all of our boxes and we would definitely like to come back again!

  • Great people to deal with. Fantastic fishing and ATV get away. Simple yet perfect.

    Mireille2019-08-18T00:00:00Z
  • We had a wonderful time at the Explorer Cabin. It is one of several nice cabins near the water. Extremely quiet and peaceful, with no motor boats to disturb the serenity. It was very clean and comfortable. We hadn’t read the fine print about the water not being potable so did a lot of boiling! You’ll also want to pack beach chairs as there isn’t much seating at the waterfront. The hosts were welcoming and always available to help when needed. The only other thing we would have wanted was a living space with somewhere comfy to sit. Other than that, it’s a great deal and we’d definitely come back!

    Gail2019-08-12T00:00:00Z
  • Such a beautiful place. Our hosts were welcoming and knowledgeable. The lake was warm and lovely. The kids and dog had the best time in and out of the lake. We bird watched, star gazed and had an all around great stay.

  • What an amazing place! The cabin was extremely clean and very comfortable. Bob and Sue were very helpful and we enjoyed their kind and pleasant personalities. The lake was beautiful. Defiantly a place we will return too. Thank you so much for an amazing few days!

  • Cozy, quiet cabin retreat. Gorgeous, quiet lake with the option of shallow or deep water. Excellent fishing! Next time we will bring kayaks to explore the lake. Our cabin was spotless and set up with everything you could need. Our son loved the loft! Great for kids and their imaginations! The property is well kept. All the adjacent cabins have been updated. Its a perfect spot to have a family reunion! We are already planning our next stay! A true gem and well kept secret! Best wishes to the owners!

    Peristera2019-07-12T00:00:00Z
  • A great place to go and see undisturbed nature. Both lakes are very healthy and clean with lots of fish and other marine life such as turtles. The night sky in this area is beautiful at night and a great change from the city. The hosts were lovely and accommodating. The other guests were super friendly as well. The chickens; Pale, Red and Attitude , were very welcoming. Our toddler loved wandering around and watching all of the frogs and birds. The cabin was very clean and beautifully built. The loft space is quite big and there was plenty of room for our family of three. My suggestions for future visitors would be to bring fans(!!), bring some serious bug spray, get prepared for a pretty long dirt road (but it's so worth it,) and make sure you have everything you need already with you because it's a bit of a trip into town. All in all, we loved our trip. If you're looking for an escape out of the city; this is the place for you.

  • Nuala's place is fantastic. I would easily recommend others to stay with her.

    Shehzad2019-09-17T00:00:00Z
  • Had a great time at Nuala’s bakery! Clean simple accommodation. Exactly what I was looking for. Nuala was super friendly and gave me free treats from the bakery!

    Tony2019-08-26T00:00:00Z
  • The Shamrock Bakery was the perfect launching pad for an amazing two days of kayaking at the nearby lakes and in Bon Echo park. Nuala's hospitality, baking, and story telling is second to none and we highly recommend others to experience this hidden gem even if it means that we have more competition for those incredible cinnamon buns! Thank you Nuala and we will be seeing you again .

  • A cozy nook with a comfy bed and the basic amenities you need to enjoy a night here. Very quiet and comfortable. Friendly hosts, great morning coffee and yummy smells of baked goods. A great jumping off point or quick overnight spot for nearby outdoorsy destinations.

  • The room was cozy and clean, and the area is gorgeous. The food was delicious, (and waking up the smell of baking is a huge plus.) The host is a completely lovely person as well. Very enjoyable stay.

    Audrey2019-07-28T00:00:00Z
  • Very cozy, clean, comfortable stay. The host gave a wonderful greeting, and even made us dinner as we checked in pretty late. We had the perfect amount of privacy. The host was very helpful with local tips and made sure we felt comfortable in her space.

  • Nuala's place was a wonderful place to stay. She was an amazing host. Had lots of great chats with her, and the locals who would pop in because her bakery is so gooooood! She is a great baker and everything from the cookies to the scones to the Jams were amazing. So delicious. Bought various things to bring back home. The room was good too and everything was as advertised. The bed was very comfortable. Had a great sleep on it each night. Nuala also gave us lots of great tips about the area and surrounding towns. I've stayed at 5 star hotels around the world and this was a great experience with wonderful service. Also, checked out the near by dark sky preserve and Bon Echo Park. Highly recommend.

This private 2+ acre retreat offers breathtaking views of Kashwakamak Lake and full day sun exposure on the lakeside dock. The cottage is on quiet road with a 150’ of clear, weed free water; there's even a canoe for exploring. The cottage offers modern amenities and is 15 minutes from groceries, gas & beer/LCBO. You won't be disappointed if you're seeking a tranquil vacation. NOTE: check in is Sat and check out the following Sat. Msg if requesting different or enquiring about pets.
This cottage is nestled among the trees like an adult tree fort. The cottage is open concept with lots of space for 7 guests to relax. Please note, there are stairs from the cottage to the lake (see pics)...but the exercise is worth the stunning views and fresh air. Pets are not typically allowed however, message us and an exception might be considered pending the type.
Cottage is 5 minutes south of Bon Echo Provincial Park. The lake is large (18 km long) and boasts clean, calm and warm summer swimming and fishing. Because the lake is 65% crown land, it is also a very peaceful and quiet retreat; you will not feel like a sardine in a can on Kashwakamak. The cottage is surrounded by 75 acres of private property, is located on a very large bay (Browns Bay) and is only occupied by approximately 16 cottages. There is also a rope swing (within a canoe ride distance) and a public boat launch (access on Brown's Bay Rd) on the bay. The local area has gas, groceries, restaurants, hardware stores, outdoor/fishing supplies, LCBO, Beer Store, pharmacy, golf course, petting zoo/animal rescue and more within a 15 minute drive. You are in the great wilderness but have everything you need within a short drive. Note: the dump is a short drive from the cottage so it is convenient for your waste disposal upon departure. Our neighbours are quiet yet very friendly. Often times, you won't even know they are there.

Wake up to the call of the loons and the sun rising over shimmering water. Explore the lake with our two kayaks and pedal boat. Relax indoors in our clean, well maintained, rustic space. Fire up the wood stove if it gets a bit chilly. If it rains, there is a shelf full of DVDs, puzzles and board games. Grill your meals on the BBQ, and roast your marshmallows over the fire pit by the lake. We are in a "dark sky preserve", so the stars shine extra bright. S'mores never tasted so good!
The drive in off the main road is a scenic 5-10 minutes on a windy dirt road through the forest. The road isn't illuminated, so use caution if arriving or departing at night, as you may encounter wildlife! We often see coyotes, foxes, wild turkeys, porcupines, etc. There are about 20 steps leading from the driveway to the front entrance. There is a "master" bedroom with a double bed, and a second bedroom with a double bed and twin bed above it (bunk bed style). There is also a toddler bed in that second room. Finally, the futon sofa in the living room also unfolds into a very comfy double bed. We hope you enjoy your stay!
You can't see the neighbours and they can't see you. It's very private.
  • This cottage is a real gem. It's surrounded by beautiful trees and is next to a stunning lake - this space is so relaxing! As it was raining the first night, we took advantage of the indoor fireplace and played board games. The next day, we were able to enjoy the outdoors and the amazing view, and even make a fire at night. Highly recommend!

  • Not our first time and won’t be our last. Great to see Bob and Sue again. Fantastic hosts. It’s a perfect family getaway. My son loves the cottage. It’s great that our dog is welcome too. Next year we’re considering a week. Thank you for another great weekend!

  • This is the second time we’ve rented this cottage and will definitely come again! The location is so beautiful and peaceful. With two points of access to the lake, the kids and dogs loved the sandy shallow side and the adults enjoyed swimming in the deep side. Bob and Sue (owners who live there) are so friendly yet very respectful of their visitors privacy. The cottage has everything you would need. Highly recommend this place.

    Mariana2019-07-21T00:00:00Z
  • Fantastic stay! Beautiful location! Excellent fishing! Spent 4 nights here and had a perfect time! Everything was exactly as described in the listing, no surprises at all. Our kids (5 and 7) absolutely loved it, between swimming, catching frogs, tadpoles and crayfish, and fishing for Lakers, Rainbows and Perch they were never at a loss for something to do. Bob and Sue are amazing hosts, very friendly and accommodating. They exceeded our expectations in every way. We are already planning a return visit this September, can't wait! Thanks again Bob and Sue!

  • Perfect summer cottage getaway! We had a fantastic time, thank you!

    Jane2019-07-01T00:00:00Z
  • What a wonderful, peaceful place, in spite of mosquito, midges and flies. Many wild animals, trout, many beautiful birds such as hummingbird. From the back of the cottage is a wonderful dock from which you can dive into the water and catch fish. The hosts are friendly and always ready to help in any situation. Stock up on water as water is not very good quality and you have to use your own water drink or wash dishes. Grocery stores 15 minutes away. A good place to relaxed by soul and body, avoiding the city rush.

    Natasha2019-06-25T00:00:00Z
  • This was our second time in 2 years that we have rented this cottage. This cottage is clean, well kept, in a perfect location and very spacious. We had a great time and appreciated How Bob and Sue were always close by. Thanks Sue for the unexpected surprise of freshly smoked trout. See you again next year.

Come enjoy our slice of paradise on Palmerston Lake. This is our family cottage where lots of wonderful memories have been made.
Your rental includes full cottage and boat house access. Parking for your own boat is available. The dock can accommodate boats on both sides of the boathouse.
The public boat launch is right next door! The public beach is only a few doors down from our property. Approx a 5 minutes walk.
  • couldn't ask for anything more, beautiful place, easy to find, great view, clean and warm lake, and we had great weather for our stay

    Peter2019-08-13T00:00:00Z
  • This cottage was amazing. Jen was responsive and proactive in sending me information when I needed it. The property is quite large. The views from inside the cottage were breathtaking. The windows are massive and the breeze from the lake flows into the house, which was nice. The water is crystal clear and extremely clean, perfect for swimming or kayaking. The boathouse had everything we needed for the water (life vests, floaties, pool noodles). The property has a good balance of shady spots and places to soak up the sun. Inside was beautiful and was stocked with everything we needed (coffee maker, cups, plates, pots, pans utensils, towels). If you're looking for a place to escape the city, and enjoy some amazing views, this cottage is for you. Can't wait to return to this gem!

    Hardehn2019-07-21T00:00:00Z
  • Awesome spot to enjoy the lake from either the dock, the various watercraft or from the postcard perfect view from inside the cottage.

    Bruce2019-07-19T00:00:00Z
  • Thank you Jenn for offering your beautiful home to my family and I. We had an incredible time. It was exactly what we were looking for and more, clean and private with serene views! The space was large enough for my family (5) and our little dog. We enjoyed using the kayaks and canoe. The lake was warm, shallow and clean. Jenn was also incredibly quick to answer any questions I had! Definitely would want to visit again!

  • Fabulous location, clear lake and cozy cottage :)

    Nina2019-07-13T00:00:00Z
  • We could not have asked for a better weekend at Jenn's cottage. It's an easy drive from Ottawa. The cottage is spacious and has a very nice lookout over a beautiful lake. There is only one neighbour beside the cottage and they are separated by thick trees, so there is tons of privacy. We were there on a hot weekend and were still comfortable without A/C. The water is super clear and great for swimming. The cottage comes basically fully stocked except food and drinks. Jenn was always easily accessible and was a great help when we were looking for nearby golf courses and boat rentals. Thanks Jenn!

    Dane2019-07-08T00:00:00Z
  • This spot truly is paradise. Beautiful cabin, big windows onto the gorgeous clear lake... kayaking, canoeing, great fishing. Firepit by the shore, boathouse docks great for swimming and catching fish. Truly a special spot

  • This cabin is for nature lovers who want to get off the grid. The location on Palmerston Lake offers one of the best views from one end of the lake to the other. The fishing is good and local amenities help with any additional items you may have forgotten. If your looking for a quiet week on the water this is the place.

The kitchen was fully stocked with everything you would need to prepare your meals and we enjoyed our time outside by the fireplace and sliding down the hill to the cottage. The host responded to all messages very quickly and went out of their way to provide us with more information/tips.

  • Debbie’s place was exactly what I needed for a secluded quiet place to relax and write. Her Tiny House was set up perfectly and had everything I needed. Debbie even laid a fire in the pit so that it was a breeze to get it going. I will definitely be back!

    Jenn2019-09-08T00:00:00Z
  • The place is amazing, so private and gorgeous. There are high rocks fairly close to the cabin so be careful with children or dogs if you arrive at night.

    Jennie2019-08-25T00:00:00Z
  • We had great stay at Debbie's place! A definite highlight was canoeing on the lake and discovering places for rock jumping. Sparkling clean glamping experience.

    Eric2019-08-13T00:00:00Z
  • My husband, daughter, dog and myself stayed at Debbie's place. We really wanted a secluded and peaceful stay, and Debbie's place really delivered. That being said, there was great fishing, and canoeing and a really large sandy beach great for swimming not too long of a walk away. Waking up right overlooking the water in our tiny cabin was exactly the kind of family bonding we were looking forward too. We look forward to coming back again. The hosts were very helpful and quick to respond. I highly recommend.

    Wieslawa2019-08-08T00:00:00Z
  • Great place to relax and enjoy the lake. The view and the night sky are absolutely stunning. The cabin is small but has all the necessities. Debbie and her husband were really accommodating. We'll come back

Beautiful, clean cabin with everything you need on Big Gull Lake. Stylishly decorated, great views, amazing swimming area, screened in porch and hiking. Get away from it all. Enjoy your morning coffee while watching the sun rise and the loons swim around the island. The cabin is right by the water there are two docks and great dinning area on one off them for outdoor dinners and refreshments. Two double beds, one pull out couch. Access to canoes and kayaks, lifejackets and paddles.
Canoes and BBQs (bring your own charcoal)
Sharbot Lake is 30 minutes away, great hiking trails and camping available nearby. Day access to amazing campsites on the lake, but permits are needed for over night camping. There is a public boat launch nearby if you want to bring a larger boat.
  • Our family with kids enjoyed an amazing weekend at this charming cottage that exudes Canadian "Up North" authenticity. Above-average across the board but standouts were the excellent canoes, the great fire pit, the comfortable dock dining area, the swimming, and more. The beds were comfortable, the kitchen well equipped, and the screened-in porch was down-home cozy with a giant view. We saw beavers and loons up close from the property (Canadian, eh?) and anglers both young and old had lucky times from the dock. Overall, we can't compliment William and his rental enough. We will return!

    Ken2019-09-23T00:00:00Z
  • Myself and 3 friends came up to fish and relax and that is exactly what we got. The fishing was ok, quite a few bass and a couple walleye. The cottage had everything we needed, a complete kitchen and comfortable beds . Great location . Cottage owner was only a text away when we had a question with a quick response. We are considering returning next year.

    Kent2019-09-16T00:00:00Z
  • William is always ready and available to help with any questions or concerns you might have while you’re at his cabin. The property is one of a kind and offers great views of Big Gull Lake. You feel at home when you’re there, and you’ll wish it was your home as well. Will definitely return in the future!

    Mario2019-09-11T00:00:00Z

  • Cute and cozy...everything you need for a real rustic cottage feel. Lots of amenities available...great access to lake, wonderful view and great response from host.

    Heidi2019-08-24T00:00:00Z
  • Williams cottage is nicely located on the lake. We liked all its amenities and the fact that you have a private dock. Communication was easy and check in spotless. We'd love to stay again.

    Maurits2019-08-18T00:00:00Z
  • Will was an excellent host and made booking and accessing his place easy! Local flowers, coffee and cookies were a great treat upon arrival. The cabin is beautiful with all the rustic charm you want with all the modern amenities in place to make your stay easy. The dock beside the boathouse is a great place to sit and watch the cottage life all around and take in the wildlife. The included canoes and kayaks were wonderful ways to explore the lake and take in the great fishing. Thanks for having us! We’d love to return sometime.

    Ryan2019-08-08T00:00:00Z
  • We loved our stay at this cabin and had an absolute blast over the weekend. The screened in porch was the perfect place to watch the lake, have coffee and save ourselves from the bugs. We spent all day down by the dock and used the canoes and kayaks provided to explore out on the water. The lake was so warm! Would definitely go back again.

  • Kevin's Cottage in Northern Frontenac is one of the most beautiful, relaxing and tranquil properties I have ever rented. From the lovely lake running behind the property to the incredible trees and surrounding forest, the entire area is an adventure waiting to be explored. The cottage itself is well equipped equipped with a proper BBQ, kitchen, large living room, massive master bedroom, a smaller kids room and a ton of extra bedding for additional guests. The living room also has basically every movie you would want to watch, a ton of board games and a game cube with Super Smash and a bunch of other classics. One of the highlights for me as well is the lack of cell reception. It's nice to have an excuse to just turn off, escape and embrace the beautiful outdoors that is the Northern Frontenac. The only small issue you may incur is water pressure is sometimes a little slow but overall you will not be disappointed with this cottage!

    Cameron2019-06-24T00:00:00Z
  • We stayed at Kevins cottage for the first time over the May long weekend with our friends and it was everything and more. There was tons of space for us to use. It was super clean. There was board games, movies, a game cube and books for when it was raining. There were tons of chairs provided and a bbq to use for outdoor space. There was camp fire wood for us. There was good communication on what you need to do on arrival and departure. In all it was an amazing ling weekend on the water. We had a blast.

This all-season cottage in the township of North Frontenac is situated on Missassagagon Lake, a hidden jewel in the heart of Eastern Ontario's cottage country. It's an idyllic setting for couples, friends and families who are looking to relax, have fun and appreciate the great outdoors.
The cottage has a great open concept design that flows nicely from the kitchen, dining and living area. The floor-to-ceiling windows provide great views of the lake - a perfect setting to socialize and unwind any season of the year. On the main floor, the living room has comfortable seating, a soaring wood-burning fireplace, a 55' TV with cable and DVD player with surround sound. The master bedroom includes a queen size bed, ensuite bathroom, walk-in closet and sliding doors that lead to a private deck where you can sit and enjoy the view of the lake. There's a 2nd bedroom with queen size bed and 3-piece bathroom. The dining area seats 8 people comfortably. The kitchen (with adjoining laundry room) is fully-equipped with everything you need to make yourself feel at home. The adjacent sunroom has additional seating where you can enjoy the fresh air, even when it's raining. The spacious loft overlooking the lake provides additional sleeping space, including a queen size bed, sofa bed and a single over double bunk bed. For indoor activities, there's an assortment of board games, puzzles, books and DVD movies for all ages. The outdoor area has an expansive deck with propane BBQ and patio furniture for dining al fresco. The large grassy front yard is flat for outdoor activities and easy water access. There are two picnic table for additional seating; a gazebo for shade; a fire pit for a real Canadian cottage experience; Muskoka chairs and loungers for relaxing; and an assortment of lawn games for outdoor play. With almost 200-ft of waterfront (shallow water entry), spend time in and around the pristine water. Provided for your enjoyment are 2 kayaks, a canoe and a non-motorized boat. Don't forget to bring your fishing rods, bait and license. Mississagagon Lake supports a warm water fishery, in particular; lake herring, yellow pickerel, northern pike, smallmouth and largemouth bass, yellow perch, rock bass and pumpkinseed. In the evenings, watch the stars come out and enjoy the darkest skies in southern Ontario. Fun fact is, that North Frontenac was the first municipality in Canada to receive Dark Sky Preserve status from the Royal Astronomical Society in Canada. Stay with us any season of the year and enjoy the natural beauty of Missassagagon Lake!
Mississagagon Lake is known as one of the premier headwater lakes in the Land O'Lakes region. The sparsely populated lake is entirely spring fed, making its clarity and cleanliness second to none. Once you boat, swim or fish on this spectacular lake, you will feel as though you've been transported to a lake in the far north. Local conveniences are within a 15 minute drive away: LCBO, Beer Store, grocery and convenience stores, emergency and medical services, gas station, restaurants, banking services and more. There's a general notion behind the Township's slogan "Four Seasons, More Reasons". The expansive, natural, and undisturbed wilderness boasts a variety of outdoor activities: - Explore the beaches, nature trails and park area at Bon Echo Provincial Park - Play golf at Hunter's Creek Golf Course - Attend an organized event at The Dark Sky Reserve observational pad - Visit the Land O' Lakes Rescue Petting Farm

  • This place lives up to the description and pictures. A beautiful cottage - the huge windows provide so much light and beautiful views of the lake. Home is beautifully decorated and there are all the amenities you could need. Outside is so beautiful - nice flat walk to the lake, large fire pit, kayaks, canoe, etc. We appreciated all the outdoor sitting areas including reclining chairs, Adirondack chairs, Gazebo, etc. This was a perfect place for a mother and daughter weekend. Jason kindly let us check out later as elderly mom has a mobility problem in the morning. Awesome weekend

  • What a lovely space. Two comfy chairs by the dock let us watch a beautiful sunset and enjoy the stars until the most amazing full moon rose and lit up the beach. In the morning I sat and watched the water from a spacious front deck and listened only to birdsong. The lake is so clear you can see the bottom even when out in the canoe. We also brought our kayaks and we could drive right to the dock to drop them off. I also loved the well appointed kitchen and in the evening the large selection of videos to enjoy. Comfy bed put the entire stay over the top. Many thanks to cedar retreat

  • We had a wonderful experience at the Cedar Retreat! All amenities, clean and comfortable, we will definitely be back. We were surprised by how large the property is and by how incredibly private it felt the whole time. The kids loved playing at the beach, there were lots of places to sit, play, or just hang out. This cottage is ideal Canadian “cottage country”. Cute, nicely decorated and more than enough space. Thanks again for a great summer holiday!

  • We have a nice week in family 'has 5 people, the cottage is spacious, the lake is beautiful. Only negative point, the fact of bringing back the trash and recycling, finally Jim came Sunday morning and told us to let them that he would go to wear it was very appreciated, a card should be cons poured cons to have access to the waste center . If not just positive, I recommend the cottage.

    Alex2019-08-18T00:00:00Z
  • We had a lovely time at Buckshot lake. The cottage is beautiful and was well suited for 2 families travelling together (1 couple and 1 family of 4). We loved the boat with the electric motor and enjoyed the evening by the fire. We would definitely rent again.

    Dana2019-08-11T00:00:00Z
  • We had a lovely stay here at Buckshot lake. The lake was beautiful, clear and great for swimming. We could see the bottom while standing at the end of the dock. However, the water is shallow so jumping from the dock was a bit risky as we did hit the rocks beneath. We also enjoyed taking out the canoe daily and fishing. Plenty of wood for burning the perfect fire. The cottage itself was clean, huge and we could of easily fit another family in with us. The two full washrooms and laundry machines were very convenient for us as well. The days were hot but our nights were cool. We made out very well with the ceiling fans and open windows. We also were incredibly amazed by how few bugs were out during our time there (end of July). We had everything we needed during our stay in this lovely cottage. We’d love to come back again next year! Thanks for the wine Jim!

  • We really enjoyed this cottage lots of privacy having a boat to use was an added bonus our daughter also caught a couple bass right off the dock. Overall we really loved this very spacious property and reccomend especially if you like fishing!

  • Jim is a great host, fast with responses and had recommendations. Was not disappointed with our first experience renting on here. His place was in perfect condition by the lake, we had a nice quiet family time. We didn't catch anything in the lake but we did have fun boating and canoeing!

  • Chuck s place is a wonderful restful haven. Uniquely decorated....welcoming, cozy, fully equipped , very clean & private . • This place is AMAZING and Chuck is a fantastic host! We only stayed one night but we will be back for sure. His dogs Chloe and Piper are total charmers. Don’t skip the breakfast. Chuck is a fantastic cook and very generous with the bacon.

  • The facilities were artistically neat and tidy, perfect for cottage country, a century old residence with a rich and varied past. Thankfully given the heat A/C in the accommodation's was most welcome, as was the breeze in the screened in porch. Chuck was a most gracious and attentive host, friendly and accommodating. The German Sheppards Piper and Chloe were gentle, enegetic and friendly. Overall a fantastic stay, relaxing and attentive, highly recommended. Thanks Chuck, Piper and Chloe. Dan and Mary

  • Beautiful rustic upstairs and a giant (can fit 50 people) protected wrap-around porch full of decor and whimsy downstairs. Bed was great, washroom had everything, whole place was very clean, TV and couch were great because there is netflix but also a huge DVD collection. Chuck's breakfasts were so delicious and clearly prepared with attention and care and they kept us full for a long time. The property itself was really nicely maintained and the little town of Ardoch is very small but has a cute bakery and a restaurant. If you like star-gazing, there's the Dark Sky Preserve 3min away, for swimming there's a clean lake nearby at Sand Lake, and Bon Echo provincial park is about 45min drive. Would definitely recommend Chuck's place for anyone visiting the area for a few days or just passing through and need a break. We felt very refreshed and recharged after staying.

  • Our stay at Larry’s cottage was so wonderful. The cottage was clean, comfortable and had everything we needed for a group gathering. The surrounding property was perfect for a winter walk to see what animal tracks we could find. After spending time outside, it was so lovely to cozy up by the fireplace. Larry was so welcoming and responsive leading up to and during our stay. I will definitely be back next time I’m looking for a family-sized cottage getaway!

    Julia2020-02-02T00:00:00Z
  • Larry's cottage was phenomenal! It's secluded in the woods, and really feels like your own place to enjoy. There were water toys (kayak, canoe, noodles etc) for use, every kind of kitchen utensil/item you could imagine, board games, movies, and lots of space to hangout with friends. The cottage was so nice it felt like home! Just gotta watch out for all the bugs at night! (but don't worry, Larry has bug spray provided)

    Justin2019-09-22T00:00:00Z
  • We had an amazing time at this cottage! Larry provides us with information including directions, FAQs, and tons of great tips. He was very attentive and quick to answer all of our questions. The cottage was beautiful and although our stay was a little short we were able to enjoy the canoe/kayaks, the fire pit and the pier. Will most certainly recommend this spot!

    Valentina2019-09-15T00:00:00Z
  • Larry was a generous and hospitable host, and the place worked perfectly for our stay. The location is amazing, feel like you are in the middle of heaven. Nice and sparkly water. We did canoeing and I could say it was one of the best moments of our visit. The place was really clean (linens, bathrooms.etc). I would give 5/5 stars to our stay and we will definitely come back again. Thanks Larry!!

  • We went to this cottage with 4 couples and 3 kids and absolutely loved the place. We had plenty of room for all of us and it had a big property. I recommend this place to anyone hoping for a nice cottage in a peaceful lake. The cottage had a canoe and two kayaks, only unfortunate thing is you have to bring your own life jackets which not everybody can have at home. Other than that, this is a great place and Larry was a great host.

    Sebastien2019-06-24T00:00:00Z
  • What an amazing weekend we had at Larry’s cottage. It was so gorgeous and the cottage was wonderful. I would go back any time!

    Travis2019-06-16T00:00:00Z
  • This was a lovely place for our group of 10. Perfect location, gorgeous in the mornings. The kitchen area was great for cooking and dining. Having two lounge areas (living room and extra den) was really nice as well. There are 2 kayaks, 1 canoe, a basketball to help occupy yoir time. The host was quite responsive via text message. Highly recommend this place. Lots of extra linens for sleeping on couches as well.

    Navneet2019-05-20T00:00:00Z
  • Several friends and I traveled from Ottawa and Toronto for a mini-reunion, with some young children in tow. We found exactly what we were hoping for - a splendidly appointed cabin on a lake. We enjoyed canoeing, swimming, the fire pit, barbecue, and games of capture the flag on the large lot and in the trees. It was an extremely relaxing weekend and the children couldn't stop talking about it afterwards. Larry was a very responsive and proactive host and clearly cares about the guest experience. We spent a very special weekend there!

  • A great cottage on a big lake. Quiet and tranquil, “getting away from it all” was easily accomplished. Clean, clear water and great spots to fish made the week great for all. Could easily go for hours on a boat ride, and having Camp’s Bay Marina 5 minutes away across the lake was really convenient too. Great fire pit for fires every night.

    Chris2019-08-17T00:00:00Z
  • Host was very responsive and great to work with. The house was very clean, well appointed, well built, stylish and much larger than expected. It easily slept 8 persons and the large modern washrooms were an added bonus! The water from the taps were not only potable but tasted much better than Kingston water. The outside property was built for cottage life, a great deck, long swim dock, large fire pit and a fantastic shoreline seating/viewing area. The water was deep and clean and the onsite boat launch was a perk! We had a great time, thanks Ashley!

Welcome to our Northern Retreat - a beautiful lakefront getaway on Malcolm Lake, North Frontenac. Enjoy canoeing or using a rowboat to explore the quiet lake, reading on the dock, morning coffees overlooking the water, and evening bonfires with friends and family. This very private cottage offers tons of room for cooking, eating, playing, and lounging.
Our three story cottage is modern and bright, but has a very warm and relaxed feeling to it. The rooms are clean and comfortable, with enough space throughout the cottage to easily accommodate a group of 6. The 1.5 acre property ensures plenty of privacy from the only neighbouring cottage. A canoe and rowboat are available to launch from the dock, and there is a large fire pit area for bonfires.
There are many things to explore within a short drive from the cottage: An Alpaca ranch, the North Frontenac Dark Sky Preserve, Bon Echo National Park, and Sand Lake public beach. There is a large grocery store 15 minutes from the cottage, as well as the popular local diner: 'North of 7'.
  • The cottage is cute, clean, spacious and well equipped. What really sets this place apart is the view of the lake. Sit on the dock and listen to the loons! It is one of the nicest views I can remember. It is also a very calm and quiet lake. No loud boats or yahoos!!

  • Our weekend at Cameron's cottage was wonderful. The location was great, deep in the woods and a beautiful view. VERY spacious home, we had 6 adults and it didn't feel cramped at all. The basement was naturally cold which was a great escape in the extreme heat we had this weekend. Everything you need for cooking is available in the kitchen and plenty of things to do with board games, dvds, boats and a fire pit. Lake is very shallow and has a yucky bottom but we brought floaty toys and had a blast on the water anyway. Cameron was quick to respond to all messages and checked in to make sure we were okay, would definitely recommend and hope to return one day.

  • Cameron's place is in a truly glorious spot, perched on the edge of a quiet lake. It's tucked away in the woods...there's a canoe and rowboat (we had lots of fun canoeing out to a small island) and you have loads of space in this open-plan house. Big kitchen, fully equipped, heaps of games, life jackets etc. we never turned on the TV but there are two with heaps of movies. The screened-in porch is a huge plus...of course it's lake country so there are mosquitoes :) Fabulous fire-pit, dock and deck...it's impossible to describe how picturesque this spot is! Bear in mind the house is open-plan so in terms of noise separation there are two bedrooms, then a loft and common areas. Having said that, there is loads of room and it's great having two different living rooms for kids and adults. We went to a nearby sandy beach for swimming (the lake near the cottage is swimmable but a bit mucky) but mostly hung out around the dock, boating and sunning. We had a fantastic time and were really sad to leave. Cameron is a super-attentive host, keen to do anything to make your stay more comfortable.

  • Definitely by far the best cottage rental, Cameron was very quick at messaging, I would suggest the cottage to anyone who wants a nice relaxing getaway with no one around to bother them

  • cameron was a great host, very organized and responded right away to our questions! the house rules were straight forward and easy to follow. despite having rain the entire time, we had a relaxing cozy stay. we relaxed in front of the indoor fireplace and played board games that cameron had left. we loved sitting out on the deck enjoying the view. it was the perfect little getaway for us! we were even able to make it out on the water the morning we left (rain had stopped) and got to see how beautiful the lake is and we couldnt help but wish we were staying just 1 more day!

  • My father and I stayed here for a fishing weekend in late May. It was the perfect base-camp for us as we explored a number of the lakes in the North Frontenac area. The cottage itself is beautiful: open- concept living area with a large loft plus a finished basement. The place was clean and well-appointed. As a host Cameron was attentive and thoughtful. He provided very detailed instructions on checking-in and was always quick to respond to any messages we sent. We had an excellent stay and would highly recommend this cottage for anyone interested in spending time in the spectacular North Frontenac region.

  • Sue and her husband Chris were great hosts. They welcomed us as we pulled in and checked in regularly to see if they could do anything for us. The location of the cottage on the lake was beautiful and the fact that we were able to bring our dog along was a huge bonus to us. The cottage had everything that was in the description and was clean. We would surely go back here if we get the chance to visit the area again. Thank you for a great Vacation Sue and Chris!
