The house is beautifully designed with HUGE bathes in the ensuite bathrooms. The views from every bedroom are honestly breath taking and the sound of the river cradled us to sleep every night. Filipo who works on the farm who lives a few meteres from the cottage was amazing and made us feel safe. I would advise not driving on the dirt road with a loaded car. An unloaded car will make it easily though.

Our stay at the Owl Cottage of Tig and Phil was an experience and place that I will not forget. Such an nice place and Tig and Phil are just great! They are very accommodating and very nice and warm people. Willing to help were they can and you want. The house itself is very cosy and everything you need is there: a nice pool to swim in, a 'braai' to barbecue and last but not least a stunning view over the valley. The surroundings of the house are beautiful, with water pods, beautiful flowers and forest. Round Tzaneen and Heanertsburg is also a lot to do: from mountainbiking, having tea and pie at Pekoe View Tea Garden, having a nice cheese platter at Wegraakbosch Organic Cheese Dairy and visiting the beautiful Debengeni Falls to name a few. I can recommend the stunning Owl Cottage and the lovely hosts Tig and Phil to erveryone!

Owl cottage has got to be one of the most beautiful places on the planet. Tig and Phil are incredibly hospitable, and so much fun to chat with. Spacious, homely and well-equipped cottage with beautiful views and nearby there are lots of things to do (though you do need a car to get around). The cottage interior is just like the photos. Tig and Philip were welcoming and very thoughtful hosts. We had a very enjoyable and relaxing stay.

We really loved out stay at Owl Cottage! Both the place and the hosts were fantastic. Tig and Phil made us feel welcome at any time, they are very knowledgable about the area and gave us good advice. The views from the cottage are magnificent, the house is extremely spacious and cosy and provided everything we needed. It felt like a home away from home. It was a paradise for our 3 year old with monkeys, birds, chickens and dogs around, let alone the beautiful garden - and what a beautiful part of the country Magoebaskloof is with plenty of things to do. A highly recommended retreat for everyone who's looking to escape the city. We will certainly be back!

Our stay at Owl Cottage was very relaxing. We did not get to meet Tig, but Daniel waited for us and he was a great host. The cottage had all the amenities you could hope for and more, including board games, magazine and books. The rooms were clean and everything was very neatly arranged. You can even braai and swim there, perfect for summer! The gardens and mountain valley view was stunning. As Tig was away her little dog would come sit by us and ask us to rub her belly. We are looking forward to our next stay at Owl Cottage, hopefully this year still.

On the weekend we stayed there happened to be a cyclone about, and we couldn't have asked for a more cosy, romantic, or warm place to be. Myself and my partner thoroughly enjoyed the beautiful misty nights and great view when the sun came up. Tig and Phillip were great hosts and we would definitely recommend a stay here for anyone in the area.

It is a huge apartment, with its large windows offers beautiful views of the trees, the flowers of the kind (URL HIDDEN) is also very present with birds and monkeys that sometimes jump on the roof. A note also the friendliness and efficiency of the gardener Daniel and his colleague used home. It is a peaceful location that allows many discoveries in the surrounding mountains but also to go to Kruger and 120 km in Venda country to 150 km starting early matin.A highly recommended!

Another great week at Owl Cottage. Tig and Phil always make you feel so welcome and the Cottage and location are just perfect for a relaxing holiday. The local scenery and wildlife are outstanding too.

A glorious home away from home with an enthusiastic host who just could not do enough for us! This is a beautiful big house which is comfortable and welcoming. Highly recommended for a relaxing getaway. Easy drive from Johannesburg. Lovely village nearby.

Amazing house in a beautiful location! It was very spacious, spotless and well appointed. Our family of 7 had space to spare and enjoyed the fireplace and the views from the beautiful garden. We look forward to visiting again soon!

I'd love to stay here again. The house is more enchanting and the area more beautiful than the photos show. The view from the garden is all the way to the Tzaneen damn! (Frans and his family stay in the house across the pool, but we weren't bothered at all.) Frans was welcoming and left us a bottle of wine and a stack of firewood. And he kindly lent us the olive oil we'd forgotten. Stick to the check-out time (we didn't, quite). And think about traffic if you're driving from and/or to Joburg on a long weekend.

My big family and I love the outdoors and Diggers' Rest gave us this and a touch of home at an amazing price. We had use of an entire house in top shape, beautiful gardens and vistas, fresh mountain air, amazing walking and cycling trails. This has certainly been added to my at least twice a year list. Frans & his wife were warm, welcoming and ensured we had all we needed. Thereafter if in need they were available to assist. Thx Frans.

This was one of the most incredible places that I have ever stayed. It was absolute paradise! The house is large but still manages to feel cozy, and it's perfect for a large group of people. We woke up to the sunrise over the open valley with the most incredible view. Frans and his wife were such wonderful hosts. We made our request just a day before we wanted to stay, and they were very welcoming. They drove up to meet us and greeted us with some delicious South African wine. He built us a fire in the fireplace, and made sure that everyone had coffee and tea in their rooms. They also had lots of advice for sightseeing in the area. They are very genuine people. The area is absolutely amazing. We had no idea what to expect, but there is lots of hiking to do and some amazing waterfalls right now the road. We had lunch in the village right near by, and the local people are extremely friendly. Not just the shop keepers, but even people working in their gardens and walking down the street greeted us. This was a very wonderful vacation, and exactly what we needed as a weekend getaway. The area itself was unreal, but I know the experience would not have been the same if we hadn't stayed with the Westervelds. The view from their place and their hospitality was the best part of our trip.

We spent a very relaxing two days in Magoebaskloof at 'Cottage with a View' hosted by Frans and his wife. Wonderful atmosphere and our hosts were extremely friendly and welcoming. We had access to a two bedroom cottage sleeping four and we had all the facilities for self catering. Lots of nice eating places within 15 to 30 minutes and also nice sight seeing opportunities and walks.

Frans and Mirjam were wonderful hosts who went out of their way to make me feel at home. The cottage was not available for the full time required so they offered me to stay in their home during that period which I accepted. Great conversations were had over many a glass of wine. Their hospitality is the kind that makes the Airbnb community the best means of fulfilling ones accommodation requirements... Oh and the views of Magoebaskloof from the property are magnificent too:)

A long weekend spent in this beautiful setting! Fantastic location with impressive views. Lots to do in the area; cozy villages, friendly restaurants, hiking, sightseeing etc. We felt very welcome in French and his family slept with fun in the cozy cottage. Very quiet and spacious property with amazing views. Frans is unfailingly accommodating and is a great communicator. We had a superb long stay in the mountains at Diggers' Rest Lodge. No option for laundry on site however, which was the only down side as it is a very secluded spot and a lengthy drive into town.
