Places to stay in Salem
At this time of uncertainty we will no longer be listing our little place.
  • Scott's place was great. Cute and cozy and private. Scott was very responsive.

    Shirak2020-03-15T00:00:00Z
  • Scott’s place was very nice! Clean and easily accessible, with all amenities included. Our stay couldn’t have been better, and the heat was even turned up for us before our arrival!

    Jarrett2020-02-23T00:00:00Z
  • Scott's country country stay was a wonderful place. We felt very much at home and we'll be back again to visit.

    Robert2020-02-04T00:00:00Z
  • My boyfriend and I had a great weekend getaway at Scott's place. We went ice fishing nearby, so it was nice to have a cozy place to come back to. Scott was easy to communicate with, and it was easy to find the place and get in per Scott's directions. It's a cozy cottage, with good heating, a comfy bed, and fully equipped kitchen. We were happy to disconnect for the weekend, but wifi connection was spotty (if you are counting on it). We'd definitely stay here again, especially on another weekend getaway and outdoor adventure. Thank you!

  • Awesome little cabin, with plenty of room for two or more people. Well appointed, with lovely wooden details including the ceiling. Super clean too!

    Chris2020-01-26T00:00:00Z
  • The listing and reviews for Scott's place are accurate. This is a nice little, very clean, and friendly space, and thus it can't really be beat in terms of value for your stay. It is located just outside of the town of Salem, and navigating around the area is easy. Scott is very knowledgeable about the area, and is more than willing to help out if needed. We enjoyed our stay here, and wouldn't hesitate to book again!

  • Cozy little place up in Salem. I didn't spend too much time in the house but it was very comfortable and warm when I was there. Scott and Nancy are as nice as can be and I'd for sure come back if I'm ever back in the area.

    Andrew2019-12-01T00:00:00Z
  • Nice spot in a easy to get to location. Would definitely stay again when traveling in the area.

Our small above-garage guest suite in upstate NY is a retreat from the busy-ness of day-to-day life. The open floor plan (with a kitchen), airy apartment has windows on all sides, & overlooks our growing homestead, woods, meadow & animal pastures. The guesthouse is ideal for those looking to get away from electronics, and hike, bike, paddle the area’s trails, the Battenkill River, and area lakes. Or just sit on the deck with a book and cup of tea or glass of wine.
Guests have a parking space on our shared drive, and there is a short walk up steps to get into the guest suite. The apartment is surrounded on two sides by a deck (with chairs and small table). The space is best used by two people who do not mind sharing a queen size bed, though we do have an air mattress if needed. The bedroom and living room occupy the same open space. There is no partition between them (similar to a hotel room). Sheets and towels are provided. The kitchen has a mini fridge (no freezer), full range and oven, 12 cup coffeemaker, toaster oven, microwave, and is equipped with cutlery, pots/pans, dish soap, towels, etc. There is also olive oil and salt and pepper. The bathroom is small, with a standup shower. There is no sink in the bathroom, but as it abuts the kitchen, you simply walk out the door to use the kitchen sink. There is no wifi, but we do have a small tv with a DVD player so you can watch movies, and there are some games and books. Feel free to peruse! Cell service is spotty, though Verizon is usually good. There is no landline. If there is an emergency, you may ask to use the house phone. Our house is about 20 yards away from the guest suite. One side of the guest suite can be seen from our house, but the other three sides face the woods, and are private. Guests may bring up to two well-behaved dogs with them, but please let us know beforehand. We love animals, but know in new situations not every dog behaves as well as usual. Your dogs must remain leashed while on our property. We also have pets (one dog and three cats). *There are also farm animals on property: three goats, two pigs, and free range chickens.*
We live in a fairly secluded area, but you may occasionally hear cars up and down the dirt road, and some activity at the neighbors down the road.
  • Secluded and up a steep hill that might be tricky during the winter but is still really accessible considering. I loved all those traits, I didn't hear a single plane in the sky and zero traffic. Just the trees moving in the wind and the birds.

    Necole2019-11-01T00:00:00Z
  • This was a nice cabin up on a hill, clean, comfortable bed and plenty of chairs to look out at the views and to get comfortable with a book. We will put this cabin on our list for a return visit!!

    Joe2019-10-27T00:00:00Z
  • Great little place, very cozy and has everything you need for a stay.

    Zach2019-10-20T00:00:00Z
  • Wow! This is a gem of a place! The cabin-ish apartment had everything we could ever need for a wonderful weekend getaway. We loved having a full kitchen available to prepare our meals in. The bed is super comfy, and the entire place is extremely clean. We loved the homey style here-the pieces of art throughout, the welcoming property, and several little guidebooks about local areas to explore. The weather was perfect for us to enjoy sitting on the deck each morning and evening. Wow...the fall colors surrounding this place can not be accurately described with words. The location was perfect for exploring southern Vermont. We hiked trails in the nearby Green Mounatain Forest, visited the towns of Manchester and Stratton Mountain, and happened upon a terrific farmers market Sunday morning. Melissa met us for check in and answered all our questions, and she even checked in during our stay to be sure everything was as we needed. We hope to go back for a return visit, it was a fantastic stay. Thank you, Melissa!

    Michelle2019-10-14T00:00:00Z
  • Melissa’s cabin is just adorable, so perfect and pretty in gorgeous surroundings and 360 views of the forest. It was cosy and warm, we felt right at home and in a good spot to explore the area. Great for a proper getaway, Melissa is super helpful in what to do and see with even little guidebooks on the table. We had a wonderful stay.

    Michelle2019-10-10T00:00:00Z
  • Really cute place/location and Melissa is a really nice host who also let us have our privacy

    Shannon2019-09-21T00:00:00Z
  • It was simple, it was lovely, it was simply lovely. Great and quiet place for a staycation.

    Daniel2019-08-31T00:00:00Z
  • Dan and Melissa were fantastic hosts. The guest house was a delightful space, very open and inviting! We wished we had the time to check out the trails on the property, but we only stayed one night. We almost cooked breakfast before we checked out seeing as how the kitchen was stocked well enough with all the tools we'd need, but opted for coffee and a pastry on the deck instead. Comfy bed, everything we needed, and peace and quiet. Would absolutely return

Camp or stay in cabin on your own 100 acre mountain! The character of our landscape helps define the self-image of the people who inhabit it and gives us a sense of place. The Cambridge Valley is the dynamic backdrop of the New England lifestyle. This easy Colfax Mountaintop escape evokes the essence of our landscape and heritage, allowing one to experience valley farmland, lakes and rivers while witnessing inspirational New England mountain vistas.
This 100 acres estate has a well designed 4x4 road to the top of Colfax Mountain where there is a small cabin. This is carry in carry out camping, you are responsible for all amenities. You are renting 100 acres of nature with mountain top views. All garbage must be brought out with you.
  • This property is a beautiful rustic camping spot with lovely views of the Green Mountains. It is a very peaceful, quiet place to unplug and enjoy nature. It's close to the quaint little town of Cambridge for amenities and there are several local breweries to explore on the NY and Vermont border. The views of the sunrise from the mountaintop are stunning and the stars are very bright because there is very little light pollution. There are several old roads along the property that are fun to explore and hike. We thoroughly enjoyed our time on Jan's property, so much so that we are already planning a return trip in the fall. Jan was very quick to respond and communicated helpful hints and local recommendations. Be aware that if you plan to drive to the top of the property (where the best camping spot is) you'll need a trustworthy 4WD vehicle. I highly recommend the property for a rural escape!

    Jacqueline2019-08-12T00:00:00Z
  • This place is beautiful, quiet, and peaceful. The cabin is very minimal; it is more like a shed with a table and chair. Jan was helpful and available if I needed him. Note that it is a big advantage to bring an AWD vehicle to your stay, that way you can drive all the way up the cabin. If you don't, you will have to lug up your gear like I did.

    Justin2019-07-29T00:00:00Z
  • We had an amazing time staying at Colfax Gold Mine Mountaintop. The property is 100 acres of beauty. We parked at the bottom of the mountain on the property and hauled all of our gear to the top. We could have used the road, but preferred to go as low-tech as possible. We camped in a tent on the top of the mountain and used the cabin to store gear. The spot is perfect for tent camping, or camping in the bed of a truck, or you can even sleep in the cabin, which is outfitted with a small cot, a table, and a chair. The space is beautiful. The sun rises out over the Green Mountain National Forest, which you have a perfect view of from the top of the mountain. It is secluded, yet the roads to the top are well made. Jan was great about checking in with us regularly, and had plenty of recommendations for us of things to do in the area. This site was exactly what we were looking for: A place to camp in a remote, secluded area, yet one that was easy to access. There are other sites on the property where you can camp as well. On one of our last nights, there was a lightning storm, so we set up a camp lower on the mountain, which worked out really well. The location is secluded but at the same time, it is not far to Green Mountain National Forest, or to Saratoga Springs, or to the Battenkill River. Lots to do in the area. We hope to be back soon!!

Beautifully restored 18th century farmhouse, situated on 4.6 private acres within a 180 acre working farm. Five bedrooms, wood burning stoves, ample living space, and a cheery sun room with gorgeous mountain views make this house one of a kind. Our backyard features an in-ground, heated, salt water swimming pool (open May to mid-Oct), fire pit (open year-round), outdoor dining table for 12, gas grill, and a deck with lounge seating and jacuzzi (open year-round).
Everything you find in our home is available for use during your stay. We have a fully equipped kitchen with a soft pantry, including fresh eggs from our farm as a special gift to guests. The gorgeous sun room is a guest favorite and features a lounge area overlooking the property and a table that seats 10. It's the perfect place for a meal or a round of poker. We also have a rec area with wood burning stove, record player with a large selection of vintage records, pool table, table tennis and foosball table. Great for rainy days inside! Each bedroom is tastefully appointed with a mix of antiques and modern amenities. Our library boasts books from every genre and a wide variety of games, toys, blocks etc to keep your little ones occupied. We even have a TV with VHS player and a large selection of classic movies for all ages. We offer complimentary wood for the fire pit and wood burning stoves. The flat screen in the living room is equipped with Netflix, Hulu and Amazon. We have made countless, priceless memories over the years at our farmstead, and we hope that you’ll do the same.
The charming town of Salem, just a short walk or drive from our farmstead, boasts a couple of great restaurants and unique shops to explore. Visit the town library or community center, which is built in the newly renovated and historic county jail, for various activities and events. From spring to fall, the Farmer's Market takes place on Saturdays until early afternoon. Starting in March, walk through the town's Farmer's Market every Saturday where local farms sell and share their homemade goods. When in season, the impressive Ft Salem Theater offers a variety of plays and musicals featuring talent from all over the country.
  • Sarah's farm is absolutely delightful. The pictures don't do the place justice - it is an absolute gem stocked with all the creature comforts for guests, and particularly kids, with all the games and the cute playroom. We all had a wonderful time at the farm and can't recommend it highly enough. Thanks much Sarah!

    Zeenat2020-02-23T00:00:00Z
  • Sarah’s place is the perfect weekend getaway! We had a group of 12 adults from NYC for a long weekend in the winter and fit great and had the best time from playing pool and foosball to doing a puzzle and hitting the hot tub. The kitchen has all of the amenities for cooking which we did all three days! There are also hiking trails and mountains for skiing nearby. I cannot recommend this place enough!!

    Caitlin2020-02-17T00:00:00Z
  • This is our third time staying at Sarah’s house and it gets better every year! The house has a fully stocked kitchen and all the games your heart desires. The sun room is so relaxing and the hot tub is the icing on the cake. Definitely work in a barn tour to see the animals on the property!

    Hilary2020-02-09T00:00:00Z
  • This is a perfect place for families or groups. The house is spacious, charming, and full of all the amenities you’d want and need for a lovely time in upstate NY. We were there for a weekend with three adults and six kids (ages two through 10), and from the many board games, pool table, ping pong table, foosball and magnetic darts, there was plenty to keep everyone happy while indoors. Outside, the hot tub, grill, fire pit, and nearby stream were all huge hits. We were warmly greeted by Kristen, who got us set up right away and checked in on us via text in case we needed anything. Katie came by one day to take care of the goats, chickens, and bunnies on the property, and she gladly showed all the animals to the kids, letting them feed and pet them. The house is huge, with a great kids bedroom full of bunk beds, as well as another four sizeable bedrooms and two comfortable bathrooms. We cooked plenty in the well-stocked kitchen, and never left the property, as there were so many fun and relaxing things to do right there. Our kids were sad to leave, and I’m sure we’ll be back soon!

  • The farm and farmhouse were just what we were looking for for a Thanksgiving getaway. Thank you, Sarah and Krista, for the hospitality- we had a fantastic time and are alread scheming to return.

    Daniel2019-11-30T00:00:00Z
  • Awesome place, and the hot tub is great. Was easy to find and we felt very welcomed.

    Zachary2019-11-03T00:00:00Z
  • Blind Buck Farmstead is a wonderful place to host an event. So many comfortable spaces to enjoy time together, take a walk, see the animals and be together.

    Sharon2019-10-13T00:00:00Z
  • This home is clean, spacious and comfortable! We were a large group of friends (14) getting together to celebrate a friends birthday after spending the day out in the Lake George/Glens Falls area. It was extra chilly yesterday so to be able to come back to a hot tub and relax was great! Everyone had a space to sleep comfortably, which is one of the best features of this house. The surrounding area is really beautiful and there is a gorgeous salt water pool right off the back deck. Unfortunately, it ended up being such a cold night, maybe 40 degrees, we weren't able to go for a swim! Most of our party mentioned that they would happily return and that its a great space for family and friends to get together! We loved it!!

Cozy apartment situated on a quite side street in charming Cambridge Village. The second floor apartment is the only unit in the house (downstairs is the owner's art studio). The apartment is completely separate from the art studio; separate entrance, heat, and amenities. Walk to restaurants, coffee shops, antique stores, farmer's market, library, parks, grocery store and more. The village of Cambridge lies within rolling hills, scenic farmland, and historic homes of NY.
The front of the house faces a grocery store parking lot, while the side and back of the house are shady and lush, with a small creek running through the yard. You can hear the babbling brook from the bedroom. It's quite relaxing and peaceful. All living space and bedrooms are on the same second floor level. There are 2 bedrooms and an open kitchen/living room area. The rooms are on the small size and the apartment is just right for up to 2 adults and 1 or 2 children. The main bedroom is 8'x11' and has a full size bed. The bathroom is accessed through the main bedroom. The second bedroom is 7.5' X 9'. It has a twin bed/sofa bed and is suitable for a child or single person. The living room has a sofa/futon if needed. Kitchen has a full size electric stove, fridge, microwave, coffee pot, cookware, dishes and dinnerware. The table seats 4. You'll find complementary coffee, tea, and breakfast items in the kitchen. The apartment has a dishwasher and a full size washer and dryer.
The home is located just off of Main St as you enter the village from the west. It is catty corner to the village's main grocery store and right next to the "New Life Christian Church". The brick Dutch Colonial home sits just at the end of the commercial zone and is the first home as you transition to a lovely tree lined street, with federal style homes, historic markers (Continental Road), Revolutionary war cemetery, and farms. Cambridge is a wonderful location with so much to do. Its also a short drive to Bennington, VT (19 miles), Saratoga Springs (24miles), Manchester VT (24 miles), Williamstown MA (28 miles), state forests, ski areas, and parks. Enjoy the Battenkill River, hiking trails, biking, mountains, museums, covered bridges, and much more. Cambridge is a eclectic and charming village, home to families, retirees, business people, artists, friendly and diverse people. Historic Hubbard Hall (within walking distance) is an education and arts center offering concerts, performances, shows, and classes. Adjacent to Hubbard Hall is Valley Artisan's Market, an art gallery staffed and managed by local artists. Round House Cafe is a favorite coffee shop right next to Hubbard Hall. There are antique stores, shopping, restaurants, coffee shops, library, and parks all within walking distance. We are also fortunate to be a short driving distance from the New Skete Monastry, just down the road. The Monastry is a beautiful and peaceful visit, also very interesting as they are world famous for the raising and training of German Shepherd dogs, and for making the best cheesecake you ever tasted! Cambridge is a very quiet, low key town, the perfect place to rest, relax, enjoy the people, history, and scenery of upstate NY.

  • We loved Luke and Joy’s place so much this is our second stay! Great spot on the lake, a beautiful house, thoughtful amenities for guests, and very clean. It’s great for a relaxing getaway.

    Courtney2019-11-26T00:00:00Z
  • Luke and Joy will immediately make you feel right at home. When we entered the home there was a personalized note welcoming us in and small welcoming touches throughout the space. Luke and Joy were very communicative throughout our stay if we needed anything and made us feel very comfortable. The home is very cozy and clean. If you plan to cook (which we did for every meal) you won't have an issue navigating the kitchen at all. The kitchen and bathroom are stocked like a hotel room, and you'll have everything you need (save for personal toiletries like toothpaste and such) but there is soap and shampoo if needed and dishwashing soap and plenty of towels. This space could easily fit a family of four or five or a pair of couples. We knew we chose the right place when our anxious pup settled in right away. The lake is right outside and it is a gorgeous view. We had the quiet get away we needed and would go back! Thank you Luke and Joy!

    Adrienne2019-11-07T00:00:00Z
  • This Airbnb is PERFECT. Every little touch was thought of in this house: small notes, extra electronic chargers, ease if use and access. Luke and Joy were patient with our communication during a hectic visit with family, with late arrivals and early departures. The home was immaculately clean, and easy to use. It was simple to be there, and very relaxing. This is truly how Airbnbs are meant to be, and we were honored to be able to stay here! Thanks so much, Luke and Joy!

  • 3 Pines Lake house is an amazing get-away in a superb location and is impeccably clean. It is furnished and stocked like home and you are guaranteed to enjoy every minute of your time there. Every question you have is answered and the lay out is intuitive. You are also very close to Vermont to see the lovely vistas there. For the area, you can not do any better.

  • Such thoughtful hosts with a cozy and clean space on a beautiful property (which you can roam around on)! My boyfriend and I arrived to a warm welcome hanging on the driveway and felt so comfortable here. The view is prettier in person. Perfect amount of space for 2. The family is so kind, respectful, and helpful if you need them! Quick drive to the Main Street and about a 30 min drive to Saratoga Springs. I highly recommend this stay!

  • The space is beautiful with the most amazing view to wake up to. My love and I really really appreciate the personal touch that greeted us at the gate when we first arrived ;) The location is great, we were able to have dinner in Saratoga and even went on a sleigh ride! There are snow shoes available that we made great use of and Douglas had already mapped out some great trails. This was a favorite stay for us! Douglas was so personable and friendly! We thank you kindly and look forward to staying again.

  • Douglas and Linda were amazing guests! They greeted us with warm hospitality and made us feel extremely welcomed. They even cleared up the snow from our car in the morning. We highly recommend staying with them. The views and hiking were phenomenal. A great romantic weekend getaway for anyone interested in exploring a beautiful area of New York.

  • My wife and I were lucky to have found this gem in upstate New York! Doug, Linda, and Chris were wonderful hosts. From the time we got there and until we left we could not have felt more welcome. There are plenty of things to do around the home but our favorite part was the room itself. The view of the green mountains from the large window is a must see, the cozy King size bed, and the additional touches to the room have us planning a return trip! Thank you again Doug and Linda!

Come stay on our farm! The guesthouse is well appointed with a full kitchen, laundry room, two bedrooms, and a dining area. Our farm has hiking trails through the woods, and is a beautiful place to escape city life. This serene setting is just 5 minutes from Cossayuna Lake, which offers ice fishing in the winter, and plenty of boating opportunities in the summer. We are 30 minutes from downtown Saratoga Springs, 40 minutes from Lake George, and an hour from Bennington, VT.

  • Liz‘a place is great! We’ve stayed several time and each time there are new touches that make the place better than the last! We’ll definitely stay again next time we’re in the area!

  • My girlfriend and I had a great stay on Liz’s beautiful property. The place was clean, neat, and perfectly located close to an event we had tickets to. Although we didn’t get to meet Liz in person, she was a pleasure over messaging and communication was clear and timely. We were however, greeted by her sweet horse as we arrived. Would definitely stay here again and recommend!

  • Great place to stay to get away for a little while.

  • This place is gem to stay and it’s really best place to get out of the city hustles. Really loved the cute little goat. The house was all set for us and it was really clean, it had all the fruits and food that was needed already in refrigerator which I never expected.

  • Quiet, clean, and comfortable. Our boys enjoyed meeting the goats! Would definitely stay again.

  • It was such a AMAZING experience. We had such a good time, the place is a cute place, definitely homey vibe, it had a wood stove to cuddle by. The best suprise was the sleds next to the building, with a big hill! the kids had a blast and even the adults were able to act like kids again. Ashlee recommended a few places to go which was helpful, so on our down time we were able to adventure out.

  • We stayed two nights, so see my previous review. Bottom line: great space, excellent hosts, perfect!

    Chris2019-08-10T00:00:00Z
  • Jay and Heather's place was extremely clean and comfortable, and in very idyllic landscape. The guest area is very spacious, with incredible views of the beautiful countryside. Jay and Heather are wonderful hosts, they had fresh bread, milk and eggs for us, and they even made a fire for us while we sat outside stargazing. They went out of their way for our son- they made a little bed for him, and even had books and toys for him to play with while we were there. Our son also loved seeing the horses and getting to feed the chickens. We were given terrific recommendations of things to do nearby. Our only complaint was that our stay was too short. We would love to come back to this beautiful property in the future.

  • What a lovely place to stay, Ashlee is a great host. There is a cottage on the same land that she also rents out so there may be others staying near you. We were told when others would be staying there so we were not alarmed. We were able to walk all around their land and received quick responses from Ashlee. The house was clean, there is WiFi, and we had no issues. I would highly recommend staying here!

Gramp's Old School is a newly renovated one room schoolhouse built in 1850. Be one of the first to stay here! We've done a meticulous rehab and worked hard to preserve many historic features including the original chalkboards, hardwood floors and windows. We've updated the space with a modern kitchen, bathroom, and cable internet in our 760 square ft. Located in the countryside just outside the village of Greenwich and 25 minutes to Saratoga. We're 1/4 mile to a Battenkill River public access.
Gramp's Old School is very near and dear to my heart. My grandfather attended the school in the 1940's and my father and I have spent the last 2 and a half years rehabilitating it. Now we're looking forward to sharing it with you all! We're eligible for the National Register of Historic Places and expect to be listed next year. You'll find many original items in the schoolhouse that the students once used, including the bathroom sink, chalkboards, and coat hooks. The exterior is exactly the same, including the sign that reads "District No. 11 Established 1850." We've repurposed much of the original building materials. The large kitchen island is clad in barn board from a shed that once stood on the property. You can find children's initials and dates if you look closely! The shiplap feature wall in the bathroom is from shiplap that was originally in that room. All the trim in the main room is original. There's even a drawing of an animal signed by a former student on a piece of trim that we couldn't bear to paint over. The floor in the main room still holds the imprints of where the desks were bolted to floor and the indent where the coal stove once stood. Historic details abound!
We love our country neighborhood. The views are beautiful from every window. We're across the road from a working cattle farm, moo! The Battenkill River is very close and a public access point for fishing and kayaking is a 1/4 mile down the road. For winter sports we are 15 minutes from Willard Mountain and near a snowmobile trail. The schoolhouse is located right off a state road so no worries about snowy roads in winter!
  • Our stay was great. It was so much fun cooking breakfast in the schoolhouse and watching the cows on the farm across the street. I would recommend this air bnb to anyone looking for a nice get away.

    Tabetha2020-03-22T00:00:00Z
  • Jill and her crew did a fabulous job renovating this old schoolhouse. We loved that it had all the expected amenities, yet still so much of the schoolhouse charm. It's adorable and extremely comfortable. The bedroom isn't too big (was it the office, I guess?), but the living space is very generous, with lots of thoughtful touches. Jill was very east to communicate with, flexible, and kindly left a few treats (including a carton of half-and-half for the coffee, making my husband very happy). It's a good midway stopping place between NYC and Canada so hopefully we'll come back again. Thanks for a lovely stay!

    Cindy2020-03-08T00:00:00Z
  • Jill and family did a fantastic job restoring this cute schoolhouse outside of Greenwich. It was a great setting for a focused work retreat and is a short drive to dining in Greenwich and Schuylerville.

  • Peaceful, Cozy and private . This property is great for relaxing and unwinding while also getting out to explore the gorgeous property . Vasili was a great host , answered our questions promptly and the grounds were very well kept. The sunroom is to die for , an amazing staple in the farmhouse for morning coffee and a good book.

  • Our whole family loved the house and the grounds around it. As we arrived in a snowstorm in the dark, it seemed a bit remote- but soon the roads became familiar and it was a quick jaunt to friends in Saratoga, Glens Falls, Granville and all places in between. The house seemed like a friend- not just welcoming but a friend to come back to after trips out. The layout, the furnishing and all those wonderful windows are awesome. Walks around the grounds were so enjoyable. It was an adventure to appreciating nature and a serene respite from a rather hectic days leading up to our trip. By the way, the heat was great throughout the house and there was plenty of hot water for triple showers- both essential creature comforts. We will definitely return.

    Douglas2019-11-30T00:00:00Z
  • Great location and beautiful farmhouse. Plenty of space, felt really warm and welcoming. We had such a peaceful and relaxing few days, unwinding in front of the open fire. Picturesque location on farmland with views of the mountains. We are a micro farm. Wake up and watch the sunrise and go for a short hike on the property, and get to know the animals. We are located 35 minutes from Saratoga Springs and Lake George, NY and 45 minutes from Dorset and Manchester, VT. Hike the Adirondack or Green Mountains, paddle the streams or go to a nearby small city for a play, a festival, or a concert. There is a long list of things to do and see within an hour of our tent.

Accommodations include a small cookstove, a picnic table, a queen size air mattress with two twin air mattresses also available upon request, a fire pit, adirondack chairs, a solar shower, a 5 gallon potable water container, and an outdoor toilet. The tent sits on a platform with a deck in front so is never wet or uncomfortable.
We live in a very rural setting, but a 35 minute drive to Saratoga Springs withits museums, horse racing, night life, music and festivals, or Manchester, Vermont for sight seeing, outlet shopping and wonderful food, and short drives to Hiking in the Adirondacks or Green Mountains, fishing on the Battenkill, canoeing and kayak rentals.
  • The tent space was an amazing place to escape and relax. Our host made us feel welcome. It is a great option for those looking for a unique camping experience. It was also perfect for our 2 year old. Bonnie put thought into what you would need whether you were an experienced camper or if it was your first time. Not to mention the views are priceless.

    Nicholas2019-10-13T00:00:00Z
  • We stayed at this place at the end of our week long vacation and it was perfect. Even though we never physically met Bonnie, she was a pleasure to communicate with. Her thoughtful touches to the yurt style tent were amazing, including lemon water, beautiful flowers and a delicious chocolate cheesecake. She provides a lot of necessities which was also great. Our favorite part about our stay was how peaceful and relaxing it was. On top of that the views were fantastic! We would highly recommend staying here!

  • One of the most picturesque views I’ve had the pleasure of glamping besides! In short, you can easily over pack when coming to Bonnie’s. She has everything you could possibly need (water, firewood, cook stove, outhouse) and the homemade chocolate zucchini bread, iced lemon water and French press coffee really show how much love Bonnie puts into the campsite. The yurt was perfect and foam bed was a nice touch! I usually sleep on air mattresses at other campsites so this was one of my favorites aspects. Did I talk about the view already? Well, you get the picture. Stay at Bonnie’s, you won’t regret it!

    Susan2018-08-16T00:00:00Z
  • Very nice cottage on a clean and quiet lake. We enjoyed our stay and found the location to be perfect for the day trips we had planned for the week. Only an hour to Lake George, 35 min to Saratoga and 25 min to Bennington VT. So much to do in those places. And when we wanted to just relax, we sat by the lake or took the paddle boat out. Sue’s mom is the sweetest. Only a few steps away if you need anything but otherwise leaves you to relax and enjoy yourself. Our little Shih Tzu loved it too! She got to meet Sophie who lives on the property. Very nice dog!! The accommodations were perfect for what we needed. We would definitely stay again if we were to return to the area.

    Mark2018-08-10T00:00:00Z
  • We really enjoyed the peace and quiet at the cabin. It is close enough to several areas of interest to have some fun but private and quiet enough to relax. The teens enjoyed the paddle boat and bumper pool table. It was truly an enjoyable time.

    Tonya2018-08-04T00:00:00Z
  • Our stay at the cottage on Hedges Lake was amazing and relaxing. Sue’s mom, Betsy and son met us upon our arrival and she had homemade cookies waiting for us. The cottage had a great shower/tub with awesome water pressure. The style was country though had all the necessities for cooking and the beds were comfortable and the cottage was clean. Betsy showed us around the property and explained everything to us. Make sure you stop at the local grocery store, Yushaks. Best meat in town and has everything else you might need. Food was also great at the Burger Den. We also stopped at the Argyle Brewery in an old train depot in Cambridge. Open Wed through the weekend. Food truck also available if want food while drinking great craft beer. Fishing on the lake was amazing. Lake is sparkling clean and caught pumpkinseeds, crappies, large mouth bass and bullhead. Fish was plentiful. It was great riding around in the pattleboat. This was the best and most relaxing honeymoon we could have asked for!! Thank you!! Beth P.

  • Virginia was a wonderful host and her property is a revitalizing get away. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay

  • Nature's Gate is truly a very special retreat, beyond my expectations. The waterfalls are magical, the woods are deeply peaceful, the beds are comfortable, and Virginia is an incredible host. I will definitely come again and again.

  • Staying with Virginia was a lovely experience. She was wonderfully hospitable and her beautiful property is perfect for a remote getaway. I would have loved to explore her hiking trails but it was freezing and overcast the next morning. Accommodations were comfy and I wouldn’t hesitate to stay again.

  • Virginia is wonderful. She is extremely kind and thoughtful. We come every year!

    Jody2018-10-07T00:00:00Z
  • Everything is there! Beautiful and quiet surroundings, deers in the wild, comfortable house with a great kitchen, and above all, a warm and hospitable host. Virginia is an amazing person, and we wish we could stay longer with her, to learn more about healing and... well, so many things she knows and shares. This is a perfect place to spend several days and explore the region. I do hope we can be back, some day...

  • Quiet and airy, these modern home with its big mown lawns is surrounded by forest. Inside, it's tasteful and comfortable. The night is quiet except for woodland sounds. The nearby village of Greenwich boasts a farm-to-table restaurant; and local brewers are about as well. I cell signals are spotty here, making it a sweet retreat from workaday life.

    Sara2018-07-22T00:00:00Z
  • Virginia was an excellent host--warm, accommodating, friendly. She had great suggestions on places to eat in the area and was extremely interesting to talk to. The accommodations were just what I needed--clean, spacious, quiet. The property is beautiful, with paths through the forest and a large deck to relax on. Would definitely stay again.

This will be a rustic get-away but a very quiet and peaceful stay. The Roost, located in Norman Rockwell country, is 45 mins from Saratoga/ Racing season; The best butcher and small grocery store (Yushak’s) is 7 mins away in Shushan; Manchester, VT is just 20 min North with ORVIS and great shopping options. Trout fishing is just 50 yds out the back door of the Roost! Best fishing is early or late - when all the tubers/canoes & kayakers are off the river. Pets welcome. No heat or A/C.
There is a fire pit to enjoy cookouts, s’mores or both. A woods to explore and a trail along the Battenkill to walk. A good place to take a dip in the river, too. Nearby white water companies to rent kayaks, canoes or tubes from for a day on the river putting in along 313 towards Arlington.
No other homes can be seen from the Roost. It is set back off the road so very private.

  • A spacious and comfortable cottage in the country. Loved the high ceiling and huge screened in porch. Be sure to take a walk to the marsh up the grass trail behind the house.

  • Janna's house was exactly what we were looking for our weekend away from the city. It is a beautiful, spacious house with an old timely feel to it. The patio area was definitely our favorite as we would wake up to the sound of birds in the morning and enjoy watching the fireflies at night before bed. The location is absolutely perfect for anyone looking to get some peace and quiet. The house had everything that we needed and the host made sure that we were comfortable. The town of Salem was also very charming and had great food. Highly recommend this!

Come enjoy a lakeside getaway at, newly constructed, High Oaks Lodge on Cossayuna Lake! Situated 25 miles from Saratoga Springs, NY and 33 miles from Manchester, VT. Amazing views of the lake from the spacious open-concept living room. Relax on the lower deck and make s'mores around the outdoor fire pit. Grab a homemade breakfast sandwich at the Lakeside General Store just around the corner.
  • Our stay was wonderful. Gary was very helpful and responsive. The view of the lake was beautiful. Perfectly met our thanksgiving weekend needs.

  • This house is so special! There were 7 of us staying at the house comfortably and we easily could have fit more. It's on a secluded lake and has everything you could ever need. Well equipped kitchen and outdoor grill, fire pit, deck and dock, lake toys, the list goes on. On top of that, the host we interacted with, Mardi was an absolute pleasure! From the moment we got there, Mardi was attentive yet let us do our thing. She was so generous and kind which made the weekend that much better. 10/10 experience.- will be back for sure :)

    Caitlin2019-09-22T00:00:00Z
  • We enjoyed our stay and would definitely come back ! Gary, Mardi and Mike are very responsive and friendly. They allowed us to stay longer after check out so we could enjoy the great weather. We used their kayak on the lake and it was perfect. The house is beautiful and spacious. However there are only 3 real beds and the couch and the camp bed we found were not comfortable. So if you plan to be 8 adults, 2 may have bad nights. Also there were no curtains downstairs or any ways to block the day light. All the rest was perfect.

    Nicolas2019-09-15T00:00:00Z
  • We loved your home. Gary, Mardi and Mike were so wonderful and responsive to our questions. Thank you for allowing us to enjoy it. Everything was clean and bright. My son, daughter-in-law and granddaughter thoroughly enjoyed using the kayaks. We had fun cooking our meals in together and just looking out at the view. The house was beautifully designed. Thanks, again!

Cozy lakefront cottage. Enjoy beautiful views from the deck. There is a dock and paddle boat for lake access. Great fishing right off the dock! The large yard has plenty of room for activities and there is a firepit near the lake for evening s'mores. The cottage is only 30-40 minutes from Manchester VT, Saratoga Springs, and Lake George. Although we offer many comforts of home, please keep in mind this is a seasonal cottage and not a plush hotel.
  • Aaron is a great host and the place is very cute.

    Helen2019-09-29T00:00:00Z
  • Very beautiful location. We couldn't stop taking pictures of the awesome lake! Caught plenty of fish. Very enjoyable, peaceful and serene.

    Ronald2019-08-29T00:00:00Z
  • If your looking for a trusted host and beautiful scenery without walking far; this is the spot. Fishing, s'mores by the fire, paddle boat across the lake, and grilling. Exactly what we were looking for. Basic amenities. In between camping and a hotel.

    Deidra2019-08-13T00:00:00Z
  • Clean, quiet and WONDERFUL!! My grandchildren adored our stay. The lake was the high point and they spent a lot of time swimming. The cottage was clean and exactly as described. We plan to go again next year.

    Eileen2019-08-08T00:00:00Z
  • Aaron's cabin is peaceful, with a beautiful sunroom. It is tiny and has just enough emenities to be comfortable and cook. So, it really encourages you to enjoy nature and connect to the people you are with. The backyard firepit and available paddle boat are also really nice touches. Aaron is incredibly responsive in case you have any trouble. He helped us out in getting the well water pump restarted after briefly losing power during a severe thunderstorm. Just an fyi, the lake has very thick vegetation, which makes it less ideal for swimming than we had imagined. But, it's beautiful to look at and fun to boat in. The location also puts you within in an hour of a lot of different things, like Lake George and Equinox Mountain in Vermont. All in all, Aaron's cabin is a great value and I would definitely consider coming back with my family or friends.

    Dominique2019-07-31T00:00:00Z
  • My family truly enjoyed this cozy cottage and it’s location on the lake. My husband & son did a lot of fishing and were very successful! The cottage is serene and peaceful, but also not far from more tourist areas if you need a change of pace, like Lake George or Saratoga Springs. We really had a fantastic week!!

    Kelly2019-07-20T00:00:00Z
  • Great view from the back porch looking over the lake. The fishing was also good for my son and I.

    John2019-06-20T00:00:00Z
  • Aaron’s place was clean and as it appears in photos, a great low key place to get away. We saw lots of wildlife during our stay on the lake.

  • It is a beautiful, quiet, relaxing spot. The apartment is one room, like we see in the pictures, but very spacious and comfortable. It felt like luxury camping because you are out in the woods, and you have a beautiful outdoor shower. I was sitting outside watching the stars and enjoying the quiet. They have a bbq for cooking meals, microwave and toaster in the room with coffee machine and plenty of plastic plates, cutlery and cups. Michele and Chris are truly a pleasure to deal with and actually greatly help me and my family by driving me 40 minutes away to rent a car when we had car trouble and found ourselves without a car to get back home. They provided some great board games that my family and i enjoyed and i they also have great little touches in the apartment such as breakfast bars and snacks, oatmeal, plenty of bottled water and i saw some toothbrushes as well in case you forget your own. They were truly amazing to deal with and the stay was one of, if not the most relaxing one that i have had with airbnb.

I do have wifi up at my yurt, if needed. NOTE: This cabin, with the screened in porch does reside near my yurt/residence...I do respect privacy, but the cabin is not as privately situated as my other cabin and tree house! I suggest reading reviews to help decide which is a best fit for your stay... * I do have 6 friendly cats that wander the property, and have been in the cabin (in case of allergies), also I have two wandering Guinea Fowl (the clowns)!...that roost in the tree over the screen porch ( they are quite amusing but can be loud at times, they call them the farmer's watchdogs! *****PLEASE READ BEFORE BOOKING: I encourage you to not to be alarmed by the occasional presence of flying pests, it is a cabin on wooded country property, and they are a part off experiencing, and being in nature! (please know that field mice are a part of country living, there is no guarantee you will never spot one...harmless, but rural life is all about co-habitating with nature. ***PLEASE READ BEFORE BOOKING IN WINTER: Although the woodstove makes for a warm and cozy winter getaway, when temps dip really low, teens and single digits, it can be chilly in the coldest of temps...please consider not booking if you are not prepared to deal with a rustic, minimally insulated, rustic cabin in the winter!! Please check the local forecast...and book accordingly. These cabins are rustic cabin/camps... *Guests myst also keep the woodstove going, as it is the only source if heat! The best and coziest heat in my opinion :) *Winter/mud/early spring season access: Parking is at top of driveway (easy walk), outdoor shower not available. Can either wash up with basin the old fashioned way. Being a rustic cabin, one does need to keep the wood stove going. Cabin can get chilly to cold in the coldest of temps...please consider not booking if you are not prepared to deal with a rustic, minimally insulated cabin in the winter!! please pick up some bundled dry firewood. ***Now available! A "Tiny House" on wheels is on the property!
My neighborhood is a quiet rural spot on a country dirt road with great, but barely ever seen neighbors. Out here everyone is busy tending to their property, be it farm animals, gardening, or just doing all the chores that are required living a rural life! If you listen you can hear the horse whinny at the landowner next door, or the sheep herd (baaa) in the back of the land! The area is teaming with wildlife. At night, the abundance of stars against the dark night sky, will amaze you! Fireflies magically illuminate the summer nights! And when it's the frogs mating season, which are abundant along the ponds edge, their chorus will sing you to sleep! Great sunsets as well! I love where I live, when there is something needed the neighbors are always ready and willing to lend a hand! And when we can we get together for some socializing, we all catch up on each others lives. Out here we respect each others privacy, but think nothing of walking up to each others door and saying hello, or asking for a hand.
  • Victoria’s cabin exceeded our expectations! We had a great time. Great location and very cozy!

  • This cozy, private and enchanting getaway is so lovely I almost don't want to share it with the rest of the world. For anyone who wants to escape New York city by yourself or with a partner I encourage you to spend at least 2 nights here. All the cabins are just as good as the next and the host, Victoria is absolute amazing! Truly grateful for meeting her and the time spent talking.

    Adam2019-10-01T00:00:00Z
  • My friend and I were looking for a relaxing escape, and we could not have picked a more idyllic setting. The leaves were changing the weather was gorgeous so we enjoyed spending time outside with a fire in the evenings. The cabin was cozy and beautifully decorated. We loved playing Otis Redding (one of the many choices provided by Victoria) on the record player. We were confused, because there was only one bed although the listing said there two. There were some very comfortable couches, but they were not long enough to operate as a bed for an adult. We really didn’t mind sharing a bed, but it might be an issue for some. That being said, it was an amazing getaway, and just what we needed. Thank you, Victoria!

Charming Stone House built by the original owners with stone retrieved from the farm. Wide board floors, wood beams, large windows and a stone patio/porch with views of the fields and the barns. The 2nd floor is Loft Style with a Queen bed a sectional sofa and a futon. Bright and airy. The bathroom is on the second floor with a shower. X country skiing 40 minute drive to Lake George and 10 minutes to Vermont. $60 per pet fee must be paid at time of booking. Ask host for method of payment.
The original owners developed this successful farm in 1776. The exact date of the Stone Cottage is uncertain, but what we know is that the stones and timber used to erect this Cottage was from this land. We have worked very hard in designing the interior to compliment the warmth and richness by choosing rich leather sofas and library cabinets and hutch to blend harmoniously with the wooden beans and wide board floors of the cottage. There are three Maria Therese Chandeliers. One above the Dining room table and two in the Living room. The space is open. There is a stair case to the 2nd floor where you will find a Queen bed, a sectional sofa and a futon for those extra guests. This property is an ideal wedding venue.
This a very serene area with slopes and fields on a very quiet road. Washington County was once a thriving farming community. As you drive through you will still see many active farms. Vermont is under 15 minutes from us. Lake George is about 40 minutes from and Saratoga is about the same. Albany is about 9 minutes. We have several Lakes nears us such as Lauderdale Lake. The Battenkill River is also very close to us where you can kayak and fish. It's our county's destination.
  • The cabin is lovely, very stylish and well-equipped if you plan to do some of your own cooking. The farm land around the cabin is beautiful, with several ponds and some fields, it is very quiet and the stars are impressively sparkly there! We went there with our dog who also enjoyed the country holiday and fields around the house. Definitely recommend for a romantic get-away! A short note to other pet owners: make sure to use tick-treatment before you come to the cabin (and may be some repellent there, too). We had to remove a few from our dog's fur after our walks in the fields around the house.

Bring a speaker with you if you enjoy listening music in evening, bring food and tea if you get hungry as nearest store is 7 miles away. Clean house with nice wood floors and brand new appliances. WIFI works well so enjoy your work and quiet air with nice view.

  • My friends and I were looking to book a stay as we were skiing at Okemo Mtn for the weekend. Absolutely nothing was reasonable in the VT area so we started looking in NY and Naomi's place was AMAZING! The space was so comfortable and the house is adorable. Super reasonable and honestly, next time I go skiing in VT, I would stay here over somewhere closer to the mountain. The drive from NY into VT was absolutely gorgeous and would recommend it to anyone. This space is perfect for a group of 4, couches and bed were extremely comfortable and full kitchen. Everything was excellent!

  • The apartment was spotless and beautiful, just as described. We came in around 9 pm and the house was well lit so we could find it easily. We were greeted when we came in. :) We will stay there again, if we come back to the area.

  • The AirBnB was great! We stayed here during a wedding and found the place amazing. The hosts were great and helped us get set up as well as find our bearings.

Our tent is situated atop a hill in a pasture with a beautiful view. Our animals will be grazing below you, and you will see mountains in the distance. Accommodations include a small cook stove, a picnic table, a full size air mattress. Available outside is a fire pit, Adirondack chairs, a solar shower, a 5 gallon potable water container, and an outdoor toilet. The tent sits on a platform with a deck in front so is never wet or uncomfortable.
We live in a very rural setting, but a 35 minute drive to Saratoga Springs with museums, horse racing, night life, music and festivals or Manchester, Vermont for sightseeing, outlet shopping, and wonderful food. We are also a short drive to hiking in the Adirondacks or Green Mountains, fishing on the Batten kill River, canoeing and kayak rentals.
  • Bonnie is an absolutely fantastic host. You will not be disappointed whatsoever booking a stay at Runamuk Farms. From the incredible views, to every attention to detail on the glamping site, you are more than taken care of. We loved that fact that we could bring our 2 dogs with us. They LOVED being there. It was such a relaxing weekend and the surrounding area, Cambridge included, is so beautiful. If you're looking for a relaxing getaway...this is it. We took a few walks around the property and it just felt great not being in a rush to be anywhere... and just take it all in. Thank you so much again, Bonnie! We hope to be back soon!

    Anna2019-10-14T00:00:00Z
  • The tent was located on a peaceful farm, surrounded by grazing cows with gorgeous views. The bed/bedding was very comfortable and stylish. Bonnie was a lovely host who provided lots of extra touches. Inside the tent, she had lemon water, glasses, mugs, coffee and a French press. Both the outside and inside fires were “set” and ready to go. The outdoor washroom was clean and convenient. Our 2 young daughters (2 & 3) loved our stay and didn’t want leave! Highly recommend a stay at Bonnie’s place!!!

  • Two Octobers ago, I stumbled upon Runamuk and was blown away by the view and all the little touches Bonnie adds to make it feel like home. I've returned every October and just finished my 3rd stay, this time in the new Tent #2, which I think I like a little more than Tent #1 (and I love Tent #1). This is truly a magical place.

    Rich2019-10-06T00:00:00Z
  • This is by far the most scenic and pleasant experience I’ve had on Airbnb. The pictures don’t do justice to the feeling you get when waking up with such a beautiful view, hearing, smelling, and felling nature at its best. It’s a magical spot and Bonnie was an exceptional host, taking time out of her morning to allow my children to meet with her farm animals and start the day off right. Thank you.

    Rion2019-09-30T00:00:00Z
  • Very thoughtful host. Beautiful views. Very comfortable bunk beds.

    Anna2019-09-08T00:00:00Z
  • This was our second time staying on Runamuck Farm, and we loved it just as much as the first! There was actually a bit of a mix up with the tent and other guests, so we ended up staying in Tent #1, but a tent’s a tent and Bonnie was so quick to respond and resolved the issue seamlessly. We cooked over the fire before heading to bed under the stars, and awoke in the morning to a magical fog sitting atop the rolling hills. We loved the thoughtful touches of flowers, coffee and a sweet homemade treat waiting for us when we got there. Will definitely be staying again if we find ourselves in the area!

    Allie2019-08-29T00:00:00Z
  • What a great place for our family to stay. Very private! Great for our dog. My two girls loved it!! The amazing bed, the nice place to eat. We really enjoyed our night at Bonnie’s place!!

Very clean, well kept, 1 bedroom country cottage with an infrared sauna. Hardwood floors in bedroom and kitchen. Propane heater for winter months and AC in the summer. This a very quiet place, great for a relaxing getaway. There is a fire pit on the property, right near the cottage, for evening fires. We recommend AWD or 4WD or vehicles with snow tires during winter months. The cottage is located on a hill, can be slippery in the winter.
This space best fits 2 people, but can accommodate 4. There is a futon in the living room, which we please ask you to put a sheet on, you will find extra bedding and pillows in the bedroom closet. We have chickens on the property, which we do provide fresh organic eggs with every stay for breakfast.
Wooded and secluded. We live on a well kept gravel road. If you are looking for quiet and peaceful get away this is your place.
  • Beautiful, calm and restful. Great hosts!

  • Perfect place for a weekend getaway! Brian and Samantha were very kind and welcoming, and the place was perfect.

    Molly2020-02-02T00:00:00Z
  • Brian and Samantha’s house is absolutely wonderful, it is warm and cozy. Also, it is fully equipped and we spent 2 amazing days to read, walk and enjoy the sauna. Definitely a must go!

  • Samatha and Brian's place is clean and cozy. It was easy to communicate with them and they were flexible. We appreciated everything so much!

    Abigail2019-12-23T00:00:00Z
  • Brian and Samantha’s cottage was such a nice space. It was close enough to various towns and Saratoga which made it perfect. Response time was great and they were able to assist with any questions we had.

    Jordan2019-11-11T00:00:00Z
  • This place is lovely! We highly recommend it for a quiet, relaxing get away. The hosts are gracious and accommodating.

  • Brian and Samantha’s guest house is adorable, perfectly clean and cozy. Brian and Samantha were easy to reach, friendly and even turned the lights on for us before we arrived and turned on the wood fireplace/furnace so when we walked in the guest house was cozy and welcoming. It was the perfect place to stop for a night on our way to Boston. Thank you!! Highly recommend!

    Isabelle2019-10-14T00:00:00Z
  • Exactly as I hoped it would be. Very communicative and accommodating hosts. Location is just far enough from establishment while also not being too isolated. Had a great view of the stars and use of the fire pit. The space was very clean and is the perfect size. Would most definitely stay with Brian and Samantha again!

Our Birdhouse Retreat is one of the most sought-after destinations for couples and individuals seeking to reconnect with nature. Nestled in the valley of the Taconic and Green Mountains just 30 minutes from Saratoga Springs, NY, boasting quiet solitude. It sleeps 1-3 people. 1000 acre wetland, easy access, unbelievable wildlife viewing. Fish, Ducks, Geese, Blue Heron, Otter, Bobcat, and beaver may be seen in this environment. Watch National Geographic's Building Wild Video: Float My Cabin!
The cabin is right on a wetland preserve. Inside you'll find all the basics, including camp cooking equipment. Above the cabin is an "eagles nest" perch to gaze at the natural beauty. Just a short walk inland is an out-house. The cabin was built to view the bird life in the area. Because of that, there are birds nests build right into the walls of the cabin. There is a grill provided. ** The Birdhouse is totally off the grid, no electricity, and no wifi. There are also plenty of blankets...
Privacy/seclusion of a wetland environment with easy access by 4 wheel drive or a short walk.
  • The Bird House Retreat is a haven of nature and serenity. The cabin is unique, kitschy and comfy. There are bird nests built right into the cabin walls, where guests can peek at baby birds in the spring and summer. Jan has collected a lot of interesting knickknacks and displays them artfully. The bunks were comfy and brought me back to my days of climbing up to the top bunk. We stayed warm in our sleeping bags and dry when it rained. The grills came in handy for cooking almost everything we brought. Our addition of a backpacking stove helped with boiling water for tea and coffee in the morning. We spent hours watching the ducks, geese and birds fly in an out of the wetlands. Canoe and kayak trips through the marsh allowed us to explore even further into nature. Jan gave us many tips for local hikes and restaurants. This place is not to be missed. Thank you Jan!

    Wendy2019-09-24T00:00:00Z
  • great place to stay. Cabin is bigger than pictures make it seem.

    Chris2019-09-16T00:00:00Z
  • We have just returned from the Birdhouse and are feeling rejuvenated in body and soul. Having arrived at the cabin after dark, our first impression of our “home” was limited to the warm glow of our Coleman lantern. Upon opening our cabin door in the morning, the true magic of the cabin was realized. If you enjoy peaceful canoe paddles in the misty morning sunrise with cowboy coffee in your mug and a warm wool sweater on your back, you will enjoy this stay very much so.

    Mairead2019-09-02T00:00:00Z
  • Great place to relax and falling off the social media grid. The scenery is just as beautiful as seen in the pictures.

    Nathalie2019-08-15T00:00:00Z
  • This was my second stay at Jan's cabin and i must say that it was one of the best experiences I ever had. Jan's hospitality is outstanding and the cabin is everything I ever looked for and more. Already planing my next trip.

    Daniel2019-08-05T00:00:00Z
  • You will be amazed waking up there each day. It is relaxing, unique and Jan gives great suggestions of how to enjoy the town. It is such a fun place to explore - please see Big Big on the Arlington River and enjoy the chili at Wayside. You will feel rejuvenated and amazed with your time on the creek.

    Liz2019-07-15T00:00:00Z
  • This cabin will take your breath away! An Edenic paradise perched over acres of wetlands, you can sit for hours in weathered grey wooden rocking chair absorbing scene before you, as the still shallow water comes alive with flight of birds butterflies and dragonflies. Watch Otters crisscross the marsh, herons and ducks and geese as well, and listen to bullfrogs in surround sound. No TV or electricity to distract you from the spiritually enriching wilderness. The decor is flea market vintage chic— right out of a stylish magazine. The cabin is adorable in every way and every detail fits with the theme of a birdhouse. I would not only come back but could live here! a true Thoreauvian experience— time slowed down like it must have on Walden Pond. There is a great grill with an extra burner to make pasta or coffee - and lots of flashlights and some cookware. Bring essentials like sleeping bags, toilet paper and plastic cups/silverware and lots of water.. the mosquitoes and wasps are not bad at all and we found NO wasp nests at all. the only thing to watch out for is tics and it’s good to check yourself regularly. One of the best airbnb’s we’ve ever stayed in! Do not miss this phenomenal experience!

    Emily2019-06-01T00:00:00Z
  • We had the best time during our short stay at the cabin. Jan thoughtfully provided all the basics. As long as you're used to spending time outdoors and/or camping, you won't be disappointed! Our favorite part: Watching herons, otters, ducks, geese, and swallows from the front porch.
