Places to stay in Tooborac
Thank you for checking out Locksley Park, the perfect country getaway - a secluded twenty acre property in the heart of the renowned Heathcote wine region. This property is truly special, being surrounded by national park. Locksley Park is completely off-the-grid, running solely off tank water, gas cylinders, solar panels and batteries. Check us out on Instagram @locksley_park
Your dogs are very welcome! We just ask that they do not sleep on beds. There is a massive fenced area surrounding the house with lots of trees and places that they can explore. There are two goats, Samson & Delilah, and two horses, Cowboy & Harley, who will be glad of a pat and a carrot over the fence, but please do not enter their self-contained paddock, or allow your dog(s) in there. Locksley Park was originally a sheep station nicknamed ‘Mundy Gully’. In the 1800s, gold was found in the surrounding hills. Mundy Gully soon became a centre for miners prospecting for gold. If you turn left at the exit of the property and walk into the surrounding hills, you will come across remnants of the old mines. Legend has it that Ned Kelly was once spotted spending a night by the dam whilst on the run from authorities. Locksley Park is well known to Tooborac locals for the fig trees at the entrance of the property. To this day, locals have been known to come and ‘sample’ the seasonal harvest. The 'L' shaped house has cathedral ceilings throughout, with open plan kitchen, meals and large living area. The kitchen has a slow combustion stove with brick surround, stone bench tops and farmhouse sink. The meal and living areas have ample natural light, exposed timber, clawfoot bath in front of a two-sided fireplace. With an abundance of Australian native birds and animals outside your window, Locksley Park is a nature lovers paradise. Locksley Park is located 1 hour from Melbourne and the airport, 10 minutes to Heathcote and 45 minutes to Bendigo.
That’s the best thing about Locksley Park. You are surrounded by national park.
  • Rob's place is simply amazing! You don't even realise you are off-grid (batteries never dropped below 96%). Locksley has all the modern comforts of home but the best tranquillity the Heathcote surrounds has to offer. 10 mins to Heathcote for supplies and 6 minutes to the amazing Tooborac Pub for an ale (or 10...) and dinner - could you ask for better!? The bush setting is gorgeous and the 2 horses and 2 goats are lovely company. If you are looking for a getaway from the big smoke or just looking to unwind, Locksley is the place for you!

  • Comfortable, clean and peaceful!! A very mindfully built and furnished accommodation.

    Jenni2020-03-09T00:00:00Z
  • We enjoyed our stay at Robert's off-the-grid house a lot! Despite the fact that you are literally in a forest, everything inside is modern and comfy including a shower with great water pressure. Lots of space, hip design. I was a bit concerned about the battery based on other reviews but in our case, it never went below 95%. One of the pleasant surprises was a great DVD collection with movies from the likes of Hitchcock, Tarantino, Jarmusch, Kubrick and so on - not the typical random mainstream cinema. The selection actually matched my taste with 99% accuracy, I wanted to re-watch every single DVD from the shelf!

    Denis2020-01-28T00:00:00Z
  • Great location. Really enjoyed the peace and quiet, and the abundant wildlife. The house is interesting and being off-grid added to this. It was a unique experience which I would recommend

    Michelle2020-01-26T00:00:00Z
  • Had an amazing stay at Robert’s place! The space was amazing and we loved the bathtub in the livingroom, what a fun idea! Watch out for the scorpions tho, we found one of those in the house. Overall had the best time, the house was beautiful and Robert was a great host to us! Definitely want to come back!!

    Kamilla2020-01-21T00:00:00Z
  • We had a wonderful stay at Locksley Park. Totally off-grid and in the middle of Australian bush - it's the perfect place to disconnect and unwind. While it is off-grid and you do need to do things like light a fire to use the stove/ cook your dinner, Robert and his team has everything prepared that you would need to make that easy (wood chopped, kindling collected - all neatly stacked just next to the house) Mind you, there is a butan stove top as well, but that is a lot less of an adventure! If you up for walking in nature, you can just step out the driveway and turn left, to wander through the nature reserve. You could also take your bikes into Heathcote and ride along the old Heathcote to Bendigo train line, or even just a short drive away are Turpin Falls, which are marvelous for a quick swim on a hot day! The Tooborac Pub brews their own beer and is quite the spot for people watching, as well as the many many wineries to sample (responsibly ;-)) Heathcote is also quite a substantial town, which really has all the things you may need (gluten free bread, a supermarket) and the cheapest coffee I have had since 1990's. We had a fabulous time - our only complaint is that we wish we were there for longer!

  • We stayed here for 3 nights over a long weekend. We arrived late and had self checkin instructions which were easy to follow. Leslie had been kind enough to turn lights and heating on for our arrival. We arrived to see kangaroos hopping all over the place. The views and house are as described and the photos. It was very beautiful and peaceful. The kitchen was well stocked with utensils and basics such as oil, jam, butter etc. Overall we had a great stay and wouldn’t hesitate to come back.

  • Hut on the Hill was one of our most enjoyable weekends away. The house is very secluded and the views are fantastic. It was great being able to wander around the 40 acres, was very sad to come back to the city. The house was clean and has everything you need and the fireplace was great. Will have to come back in summer to use the swim spa. Was also enjoyable seeing the kangaroos and lots of birds.

The homestead is the quintessential Australian farmhouse and was the centre a large sheep property. Five Gums is the name given to this property when the land was first released by the Government. The home sits in a tight bend on the seasonal Wild Duck Creek, not far from the iconic Wild Duck Creek Estate winery. The pleasures of life here include the creek, tranquility, fresh air, privacy, black nights, stars, beautiful light on the old river red gums.
The room with two single beds in it gives access also to a "sleep out", which is a room constructed on the verandah. This has a double bed in it. The arrangement is suited to parents in the sleep out and their two children in the single beds. The dining and lounge share the same space. There is a separate toilet and hand basin on the verandah outside the kitchen. There is a laundry in its own building outside. The kitchen is equipped with a modern Smeg gas stove and electric oven. There is also a Rayburn wood burning stove and oven, which you are welcome to use with care.
Heathcote's wine industry had its beginnings a long time ago but it is only in the last 15 years or so that it has really matured and expanded. The Heathcote area is good for wine because of the climate and the earth - this is, in places, blessed with Cambrian Greenstone, which is much sought after by wine makers. The iconic Wild Duck Creek estate put the town on the international wine lovers' map some years ago with its Duck Muck blend. Now the big names are here too, like Brown Brothers, but the many small and excellent wineries are what give the two its character. Even the French are here - Chapoutier have tasting room in the main street. The best place to get an idea of the area's wineries is in the tasting room of The Hub, in the main street opposite the National Bank.
  • We had a lovely time at Five Gums. It was secluded and quiet but with lots of space. The country style kitchen was fun and the wood heater kept the place toasty! The veranda out the back was so peaceful, we spent evenings and mornings relaxing with a drink and a book and enjoying nature!

    Phoebe2019-10-13T00:00:00Z
  • Great base for exploring Heathcote. Very peaceful, tranquil and private. Lots of wildlife around. Comfy beds and great kitchen! All you need for a pleasant weekend away.

  • Absolutely amazing place. So isolated and quiet! The house itself is a bigger than it looks in the pictures and the property is stunning! Great for early morning walks and exploring! The house is very cosy and has a very comfortable bed! Really appreciated the little dog toy left out for our fur baby too! We loved this place!

The fire was great to have on the cold winters nights and the bed was very comfortable. We will definitely be back.

  • A beautiful house on a lovely property. We especially enjoyed the huge kitchen and lounging by the fire. A true gem. We will definitely be back.

    Caroline2019-08-18T00:00:00Z
  • This is a beautiful, peaceful house in a lovely place - listen to birds, the tawny frogmouth at night, see kangaroos showing off on the high ridge over the creek to the north, sit on the verandah in silence, lounge around in the expansive living area, and there is lots of room for many cooks in the huge kitchen.

  • Highly recommend a stay at Kelly's place. It was beyond my expectations with everything we required for a 3 day stay and more. Newly renovated with kitchen, large modern shower, separate wc, huge vanity space and lovely comfortable bed. Kelly also provided cereals, milk, snacks etc well above what was expected. I highly recommend a stay here and thank Kelly for her outstanding hospitality.

  • We love staying at this property. It’s spotless, and a lot of thought has gone into ensuring the weary traveller is well catered for, e.g. the air conditioner switched on before we arrived, lovely flowers, and very well stocked fridge. We would stay more often, however, it’s always well booked, and it’s easy to see why.

  • Outstanding service, communication, welcome, location, place etc We were warmly welcome by Max the moment we pulled up in the driveway. We loved that we gave us a grand tour of the place which included history on the building. The location was right i the centre of town. Close to supermarkets, petrol stations, eateries and tourist attractions. We loved that we just walked to dinner! The beds were super comfy with gorgeous linen. We also loved that Max's place was immaculately clean. We loved the extra thoughtful touches such as the boutique soaps, toilet paper ethically sourced (who gives a crap brand), breakfast supplies, bowl of chips on arrival.. etc. A great weekend escape to enjoy the quiet countryside and beauty this country has to offer. Thanks Max!

    Jasmine2020-03-09T00:00:00Z
  • Max was an outstanding host. His hospitality was second to none, making our stay a very comfortable and a memorable one. Max was very knowledgeable on the history of the house and had embraced the lovely vintage charm of the house with the decor, such a beautiful combination of old and new, and wonderful attention payed to the finer things such as comfortable beds and dreamy linen sheets.... Max had great recommendations for dinning in town. We all enjoyed the generous breakfast fodder he had supplied. Such a treat! Thank you again!

  • Kerstin’s place was amazing - beautiful views , perfect place for a little getaway. Although we did have some trouble finding the place because it was pitch black when we got there so good idea to bring a torch. Waking up to seeing sheeps and cows was our favourite thing about Kerstin’s place. Would definately come back.

  • We loved our stay in Kerstin's beautiful home! We had such a restful time, and our pup, Nora, loved exploring the property. The views as the sunsets or a storm rolls in are incredible! We also loved the linen, and Kerstin's styling of the place just made for such a special time. We spent time in Kyneton (try the Squishy Minnie book shop), Trantham Falls, Blackhill Reserve, and local Farmer's Markets. A lovely weekend away! Thanks again, Kerstin.

Sunset Retreat with it's incredible views of the hills and amazing sunsets comprises a large bedroom with ensuite bathroom, two queen size beds, fully appointed kitchen, dining area, lounge area and fireplace for those wintery days or nights. The newly installed outdoor spa at sunset is incredible. Netflix and Wi-fi available. Sunrise (our second retreat) is a stunning one bedroom retreat, overlooking the vineyard, king size and double bed, fully appointed kitchen, dining area, lounge area and fireplace. The outdoor spa just adds to the appeal. Our other retreat is called Farmer Smith Estate - Sunrise and can be found here on Airbnb: https://www.airbnb.com.au/rooms/22294962 During the COVID-19 impact, we are open and trading as normal.  As our vineyard is situated in a remote area of Victoria, there is virtually no person-to-person contact as our retreats are private that only you will have access to in your time here. Our bookings are predominantly Friday's though to Sunday so there's typically a gap of 3-4 days between guests staying. We have increased our cleaning protocols to include multiple sanitations of high 'touch points' and our cleaning includes extra precautions and thorough wipe downs of all surfaces.  We are experiencing minor shortages in supplies, however where possible, we aim to continue providing our complimentary guest Welcome Pack.  All of our linen is cleaned by a professional, commercial laundry service that is based in Kyneton. At this stage, there are no known issues in our small, regional community and  thanks to this wonderful, fresh country air, Lisa and Wayne are both in good health.

  • Gorgeous accommodation on a beautiful property. Perfect for a couples weekend away! The spa is such a nice touch! Two nights was not enough!

    Kristen2020-02-09T00:00:00Z
  • Thank you for allowing us to enjoy your space on the hill. We felt completely recharged by that view and all the little touches that made our break perfect. I would definitely recommend you go and stay if you need to switch off from City life and enjoy that absolute peace and quite with everything you could possibly need.

  • Book this accommodation! The location is gorgeous and the view from the spa is unbeatable. The huge, well-equipped kitchen is also a massive plus if you're looking to make the most of your stay by spending a few nights in curled up by the fire :)

  • Our stay at Farmer Smith Estate was nothing short of incredible. The views from the residence were breathtaking, especially at sunrise and sunset. The remoteness of the property was exactly what we needed to relax and recharge our batteries. It was a beautiful retreat; very clean, modern, and private. The treats on arrival were most welcome - especially the estate wine. This will be a yearly (at least) venture spot. I can't recommend this experience highly enough. Lisa and Wayne were great hosts, easy to contact and very helpful.

    James2019-10-31T00:00:00Z
  • Really quiet and relaxing place. Views from the spa are great. And the Shiraz was very good.

    Jamie2019-10-13T00:00:00Z
  • Needed a relaxing girls getaway and thats what we got! This property was stunning. Sitting in the spa as the sun set looking over the beautiful surrounds, coming inside to enjoy the remainder of the night in front of the fireplace. Perfect hospitality from Lisa. I can't wait to come back.

Redesdale is a wonderful little country town with everything you need at hand to make your stay comfortable and relaxed. A,cafe, a pub and a general store all in walking distance from the cottage. The cottage is lovely and light filled, charmingly decorated with modern conviniences. Beautiful views of the surrounding area and friendly locals to offer advice and great food if you choose to eat at their venues. This place is a gem and just a short drive from Melbourne.
The house offers old world charm with all the modern conviniences. For the kiddies there is a springfree trampoline, play equipment and plenty of room to run around in. A BBq on the back porch, hammock to relax in. Claw foot bath to soak in. An outside campfire to sit around and take in the amazing star filled nights. Plenty of seating for entertaining. Although the house has wonderful log fire heating there is also a split system heating unit to warm or cool house down. Or open the doors and let the air flow through. Being so close to Eppolock, if you are into jet skiing or boating the lake is full and very quiet and serene. If you are into cycling the country roads offer a wide area to enjoy the beautiful scenery. National parks allow for dirt bikes. And Kyenton, Heathcote, Castlemaine, Bendigo are all short drives away. The heathcote winery district offers many celler doors. Everyone is friendly and up for a chat.
  • Really, a magical place. Our favourite parts were sitting on the back verandah at twilight, looking out over the rolling hills, speckled with grey sheep and wheeling cockatoos. The fire. The bath. Beers at the Redesdale pub. Exceptional host to boot.

    Myfanwy2020-01-20T00:00:00Z
  • We had a wonderful time in Redesdale. The location of the house is perfect walking distance to the pub. The place is big enough to accommodate 5 adults and 2 dogs.

    Fiona2020-01-05T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely place. Away from it all but with a brilliant pub & cafe right there. Only 20 mins either way from wonderful towns like Kyneton and Heathcote. Great garden for the dogs and kids too. Too much phone connection with Telstra and Optus for my liking but we went to get away. Most people would appreciate the service I imagine. Will come back in winter next time and try out that fire place!

  • We loved Sally's cottage. We sadly only had a brief stay. It was a great blend of historic cottage with modern comforts and stylishly decorated. The bed was comfortable, shower great and check in was straight forward. It had a nice outlook on one side over a historic stone church amd was set back from the main road so quiet.

    Donna2019-12-07T00:00:00Z
  • Clean, quiet, comfortable, full kitchen with everything you need. lovely views, the sheep came to visit next door. great place for kids, heaps of space and easy to get to. thanks Sally :) So close to the cafe, which was lovely for breakfast and coffee. the food at the pub was awesome, best parma. thanks Sally :)

  • Goldie’s View is a stylish, modern space with all the creature comforts you could want. Georgina and David provide some amazing farm fresh treats for breakfast and a great space to unwind.

    Andrew2020-03-09T00:00:00Z
  • Georgina and David’s place was more than we could ask for! The place was stylish with very modern amenities and absolutely sparkling clean! We really felt like we had escaped into the countryside on this amazing property. David and Georgina were very hospitable, wonderfully welcoming and were ready to help with anything we needed! Rarely ever does an Airbnb exceed my expectations, but this was an outstanding exception- they’ve set the bar high.

    Elysia2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • Georgina and David have put together a great experience at Goldie Views, the location is secluded and quiet providing great views and of the ranges. The land is huge providing opportunities to walk around the forest/woodland behind the barn, where you can see some wild animals if you’re lucky. The retreat is in between two towns and drivable distance of many, even providing chances for some great day trips if you have the time. Little touches put together by Georgina and David make the experience more memorable and the retreat is spacious and cosy at the same time. Would highly recommend for any couples looking to get away, especially from the city.

    Nick2020-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • Georgina's and David's apartment is definitely the best place we stayed so far during our long years' experience of travel. It is well-thought-through, with many details such as the fireplace that looks so real, but is not and keeps the whole unit warm. The bathroom floor heating is a thing we loved in the morning as well as the two showers! The relaxing sofa, the huge TV screen, the very well equipped kitchen!!! And then there is this soooo comfortable bed (and we are really picky about beds!) and don't forget about the provided breakfast, produced by David and Georgina themselves. Two different jams, very highly recommendable muesli, the organic eggs, butter, milk, orange juice, etc. We loved it and they both take care to top up everything you need! We never met hosts that made you feel welcome in such a sweet way, thinking of each and everything. A bowl with freshly picked raspberries was waiting for us on the counter of the kitchen with a letter beside it welcoming us. Both hosts are such nice and easy-going people. David showed us how to walk around on their land and even bothered taking his time in the evening to help us meet kangaroos in the evening. The view from their balcony is breathtaking and has a huge roof to shelter you from wind and rain. This accommodation is worth staying there for more than a weekend!! The only thing we regretted: Leaving the place after five very interesting days while feeling absolutely refreshed.

    Judith2020-01-09T00:00:00Z
  • Very accommodating well thought out and elegant modern barn stay. Great views of rolling hills above the lake. Georgina and David are open to share there home grown treats from there gardens and orchard. Will not disappoint.

Bungalow on productive organic permaculture vegetable and fruit mini-farm bordered by both a river and a creek in a beautiful, quiet location with scenic Turpins Falls and The Cascades nearby, between the cafe-filled towns of Kyneton and Castlemaine.
It is the tranquillity and beauty of this property, with its beautiful garden surrounded by undulating farmland with magnificent gum trees, and with scenic bushland and breathtaking natural features nearby, that makes this a unique experience. The wide range of vegetables and fruits that surround the bungalow, grown intensively by hand and hoe and organic methods only, will be of interest to many guests and add to the uniqueness of your stay here. Generally a couple or a single person stay, but some guests have stayed with a baby, toddler or young child and found the mini-farm an ideal attraction for the kids because of the pigs, chooks, very friendly goats, and two cute bouncy young collie dogs. Many adult guests love the animals too!
Metcalfe is an amazingly quiet, tranquil village considering how close it is to Melbourne - and it is exceptionally beautiful country too, with undulating farms overseen by huge gum trees, and steep hills covered with bush. The breathtaking natural features The Cascades and Turpins Falls are both in Metcalfe, and it is close to Mt Alexander, Black Hill Reserve, and Malmsbury with its botanic gardens and historic viaduct. 15 minutes away is Piper Street in Kyneton with its chef's-hatted restaurants; it's not much further to the historic goldfields towns of Castlemaine, Maldon and Bendigo; and both the Daylesford spa country and the Mt Macedon region, including Hanging Rock and Trentham Falls, are little more than half an hour away. There are many wineries in the region such as Coliban just up the road, and Sutton Grange only ten minutes away. You could drive up to Lake Eppalock or to the Heathcote wine region too. The quiet little hamlet of Metcalfe is positioned at the centre of all the attractions of Central Victoria, so it makes a great place to base your holiday.
  • Rob and Gunilla’s place was the best little hideaway for a weekend trip. The cottage is cosy but has everything you might need, and we loved the supply of dvds for a quiet night in. All the local tips were super helpful, and we loved interacting with all the animals and sitting on the porch watching the sun go down.

    Laura2020-03-15T00:00:00Z
  • Stayed for a week and had a great time, beautiful gardens full of native birds. It was great to see the fruit and veggies thriving without the use of pesticides and herbicides. The cabin is very comfortable and Rob and gunilla were terrific hosts

  • Well worth staying more than one night. This was what we both needed after a long road trip. Relaxing and enjoying the peace and quiet

    John2020-02-21T00:00:00Z
  • We had such a wonderful time on the mini farm. The garden was amazing and we got to use some of the fresh produce in our home cooked dinner. Rob and Gunilla were both lovely. We also recommend trying their cafe in town which served the best curry using fresh veggies from their farm. Hope to stay again!

    Zanda2020-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • Terrific for anyone, like us, who needs some green re-invigoration away from the dull grey of the city. Amazing gardens/farm, a plethora of birds and bees and other animals, and beautiful river very close by. Rob was very welcoming and it was inspiring to see his and Gunilla's self-made life in Metcalfe. I would very happily return.

    Camilla2020-02-09T00:00:00Z
  • Fantastic stay for a weekend away. Awesome garden to explore and super cute dogs. A draw full of DVDs to watch if spending a night in. Highly recommend swimming at nearby Turpin Falls.

We like to think of it as a rural warehouse! Hidden behind the rough sawn timber exterior of our American style timber barn you will find a light and bright welcoming space. It has everything you could wish for! Comfy place to eat, relax and unwind! Step outside the barn doors and wander around the 6 acre property.
Inside "The Barn" you will find yourself relaxing in no time! You will find a cosy lounge area with comfy couches, wood fireplace, large coffee table perfect for boardgames and a flatscreen TV. Large kitchen area fridge, portable electric oven, 2 burner hot plates, microwave, kettle & toaster, plates, pots, pans and some cooking essentials. Its a full size kitchen but appliances are small portable, so some creative planning may be needed. We also have a large gas BBQ outside complete with hood and side burner. A casual dining table as well as large timber dining table in the more formal dining area. A growing library where you can pull up a chair and get lost in the many books. Upstairs in the mezzanine you will find the main bedroom with super comfortable queen size bed and lounge area. To make yourself comfortable you will find large chest of drawers, clothes rail and sideboard for your bags. The second sleeping area (queen bed) is in the downstairs area which can be sectioned off using curtains for privacy. Attached to the outside of the barn is the bathroom complete with hot shower, basin, mirror & hairdryer. The toilet located in separate outhouse, as we are not on town water and sewer, the toilet is a somewhat palatial composting toilet. Outside you will find cane lounge or up by the dam you will find ceramic stools to sit and relax. NB fire restrictions exist during warmer months so lighting outdoor fires during this period is strictly prohibited.
The property boasts easy access to the town, with its restaurants, shops, galleries, boutiques, cafes, and so much more. The surrounding country also has a number of trails, wineries, and parks to explore.
  • We had a great stay in this barn and would highly recommend it

    Sujin2020-01-16T00:00:00Z
  • All I can say is wow. The Barn is everything you see in these photos but so much better in real life. My partner and I wanted to find somewhere to stay between the Christmas - New Year period, and wanted a place in a quiet, country town away from Sydney city. We stumbled upon The Barn and this place has become one of the best Airbnb’s we’ve stayed at. If you’re after a quiet, relaxing getaway with lots of beautiful sunsets, look no further and book your stay here. The Barn is close to the town of Heathcote - with one of the best bakeries I’ve ever been to and an IGA for all your grocery needs. It’s also a good driving distance to the town of Bendigo and Echucha, as well as Lake Eppalock and The Pink Cliffs (we highly recommend visiting these places while you’re in the area!) Regarding The Barn itself, it has all the amenities you need. They have a new outside toilet which is a lot better than the last (I wasn’t looking forward to the night trip to the other toilet so I’m glad it changed haha!). If you’re visiting in the summer, the large evaporative cooler will be your best friend. We stayed on 30-40 degrees days and it kept the barn nice and cool with no problems! Just a note that during summer you might encounter some friendly spiders, so just be prepared! ;) Thanks Jacob for allowing us and our two dogs to stay at The Barn. Our dogs absolutely loved running around outside and my partner and I absolutely enjoyed our time away. We hope to visit again in the future but this time during wintertime as we’d love to try out that fireplace :)

  • We had such a lovely stay in this beautifully converted barn. The space was styled wonderfully and made to feel very characterful and personal. The location is perfect and our sleeps were wonderful on comfy beds with lovely linen.

  • The Barn Heathcote is the best Airbnb I have stayed at. Lots of thoughtful touches and very responsive host. This location was just gorgeous. The views are stunning, the house was amazing and very well organized, even could enjoy fresh morning and starry night. also Jacob & Brad was an incredible host, communication was open and clear and They checked in with us along the way. They sent manual books to share about the best area to enjoy and gave me insights in to what the local area had to offer. The house itself is set in a serene setting amongst trees and is full of nature. Superb heating mat which kept us warm when I sleep. The bed was very comfy and crispIt provided the perfect holiday getaway with the all the classic amenities one has come to expect.

  • Jacob’s place was tidy, super stylish and on such a beautiful property. The barn doors that open up at the base of the bed were incredible. I recommend checking out the Pink Cliffs nearby, they were also stunning!

  • Wonderful place with great hosts

  • The Heathcote Barn was everything we we expected. The Barn is utterly charming and it had everything that we needed. The location of the Barn is enough out of Heathcote so you know that you’re in the peace and quiet but you’re close enough that if you need anything, it’s only a 10 minute drive away to the town centre. The decor of the Barn is set out well. The lounge area is very comfortable and the open-fire with Netflix makes the evenings all sorted. The beds are comfortable with lovely linen. Jacob as a host was very helpful and generous with his time when we had questions. Jacob has everything you need to know to have a great stay in The Barn information booklet. I highly recommend a stay at The Barn. We are sorry we couldn’t stay longer.

  • The barn in Heathcote was a wonderful mini break for our family of 4. It’s situated on a beautiful rural property surrounded by kangaroos. The outside toilet isn’t too much of an issue, despite our initial concerns. We enjoyed the outdoor fire pit the most. Lots of wood was provided. It was lovely sitting outside at night surrounded by the stars. The beds were super comfortable and the living area had ample seating with lots of blankets to keep us warm. There were 2 heaters which worked well and kept us cozy. The book and game collection was quite impressive. We enjoyed lots of board games during our stay. We visited Bendigo during our stay which isn’t too far away. The Heathcote Harvest was also delicious. Thanks for a wonderful stay!

  • We loved our stay at Gaggle's Place. You can't beat the location, you're right on the main street and a comfortable walking distance to all of the wine tasting venues and other stores. Not to mention that the home is at the back of a cafe, so you don't need to go far for a meal or drink. The hosts are very friendly and accommodating. They openly seek feedback, to make sure that everyone has a comfortable stay. No feedback needed though, as they have already thought of everything. The space itself had really thoughtful touches; tea and coffee, jam, fresh milk, cereal, soap, shampoo etc. It has everything you need (and more) to have a very comfortable stay. The beds are comfortable and the rooms are large, plenty of space for a portacot, it you're bringing one. I highly recommend a stay here. We will certainly be back!

Experience the perfect nature escape with the comfort of a beautifully designed tiny house. A chance to get close to nature and yet enjoy the comfort of home. This tiny house is placed on one of the seven magnificent hills, home to a pair of beautiful eagles, only 1 hour drive from Melbourne.
Experience living off the grid and truly disconnect here. Our tiny house is solar powered (and stored in a battery) and waters are gas heated. It offers guests a comfortable stay with its well-equipped kitchenette, hot showers, a waterless eco-friendly compost toilet, complete with a small indoor pot bellied stove / fireplace. There is a queen sized bed up in the loft and a couch on the ground floor. It sleeps 2 persons comfortably. You can charge small electronic devices like your handphone. Best to conserve power as much as possible because you don’t want to have the tiny house run out of power at night. This is a Tiny Away Tiny Home. Tiny Away integrates the concept of tiny houses with eco-tourism. It stems from our desire to allow everyone a chance to experience tiny living in the midst of nature and stay in comfort.

Warm and friendly hosts make you feel like an old friend. A couple of very quiet and friendly dogs provided additional company - especially around meal times. Great place to get away.

All the ammenities you could ask for however plan your meals in advance as there is only a gas cooktop. Most enjoyable visit, great property, thanks Taylan!

  • Super spacious farmhouse with cute decor and lots of nice touches (like lots a of great books on the bookshelves and games for the kids). David was very kind in letting us book a night last minute, and was there to say hi when we arrived. We enjoyed waking up to goats clip-clipping on the veranda and the location was excellent. A lovely country getaway.

The perfect romantic getaway nestled in a valley of sweeping hills, this beautiful bluestone cottage demands relaxation. Beautiful furnishings in living space with working open fireplace, modern bathroom with shower, kitchen including kettle, toaster, stove and electric hotplates.
  • Walking in to Ellerslie Cottage, I immediately thought "oh wow, can I move in permanently?" The cottage is absolutely beautiful, with great facilities and amazing location. Taking walks amongst the expansive hills and resting in front of the open fireplace whilst sipping a large cup of tea was truly the best way to spend my week. But the best part about the experience was the small, and very considerate, touches that made the place feel like a home and not a hotel. There were fresh roses on the table, and the fire was already built. The bed was the softest and comfiest bed I have ever slept in, and was covered with an amazing wool blanket to help keep warm. There were up to date magazines around, board games, complimentary tea and coffee (and other breakfast stuff). And when my taxi didn't show up to pick me up on my last day, the owner drove me into town so I could catch my train. All in all, one of the best stays I've had at an airbnb. But, they are not joking about the no cell reception, so if you are going alone make sure to download loads of podcasts or audiobooks or whatever other entertainment you think you might need. It is, however, more than entertaining enough to sit on the porch with a glass of wine and watch the wildlife come out in the evening. Would recommend Ellerslie Cottage to anyone who asked me for a quiet place to get out of the city, and I'm guessing the other Flop House properties are gonna be just as great!

  • Lovely quiet and secluded spot, perfect for down time and relaxing. We were lucky to stay in peak daffodil season too, very romantic and beautiful grounds! Thanks for a lovely stay.

    Deborah2019-09-16T00:00:00Z
  • Our stay in this remote little cabin was blissful. It was at first confronting to realise there was really no connection with the ‘real world’; hidden in a valley surrounded by empty farmland, no wifi, no cell coverage, no television or even speaker system. We passed time playing board games in front of the open fire, listening to the wireless radio and reading our books. A beautiful retreat in a very cute house. The bed was so comfortable and the setting was picturesque. Easy communication for checkin/ checkout. Highly recommended for an opportunity to truly disconnect and unwind.

We decorated this rustic old baker's barn into a cute and funky studio with king bed, wood fire and beautiful ensuite bathroom. We have kept as many original features like the internal tin walls, high ceiling and industrial doors and we have a hidden garden and courtyard, filled with sunshine in summer and sheltered in winter. It is tucked away behind the shop fronts on the main street of Heathcote and central to all the open cellar door venues and cafes, entrance is via Hospital street.
The Bakers barn is behind a shop front and dwelling built around the turn of the century. The Bakers barn is private, but the shared space is a lovely little garden and courtyard that is part of the dwelling.
Heathcote is a gorgeous little town right at the foot of Mount Ida and famous for the big Australian red wines grown on the Cambian soil. In the main street of Heathcote, right on your doorstep, you can do all the wine tasting straight from the cellar door. The Wine Hub has 24 different wines available for tasting, and Monsieur Chapoutier cellar doors offers their French and Australian wines for tasting and sales. There are many cellar doors to choose from! Gaffney's and Segefredo bakeries are hugely popular and our favourite cafe restaurant is small and new, it is called Fodder.

  • What an interesting place to stay in! The space is super quirky. Lots of space and nice bathroom. They have a very sweet dog, who is super friendly and a possum resident in the roof which is also fun! Their place is on the main street but very quiet and convenient. We went to palling bros brewery for dinner and they had great beer and food, only a short walk. There are sooo many wineries close by. Our favourite was Armstead but they are only open the first weekend of every month. Thanks for the stay!

  • This is a unique experience to stay somewhere with character and charm. Our 4 yr old particularly enjoyed the novelty of staying in an old church. The location is fantastic right on the main strip of pubs, restaurants and cafes. Toby & Kate are responsive and helpful with local tips on what to do. Proximity to awesome wineries as well is a bonus. It’s with the 40 mins drive to go to Tahbilk, Mitchelton and Fowles wineries and all three of those are great for lunch as well. But there are good wineries closer too such as Sanguine only 7 mins drive. Only one block walk to Palling Bros which was nice enough to have dinner 3 nights in a row. Great spot!

Throughout the year, find fabulous food & wine festivals and events offering the perfect chance to meet our down to earth winemakers, taste the great local produce and see why Heathcote is one of the best, and most beautiful, places in the world! Our neighbours are far and few between. They tend to either run live stock over large acreage or grow grapes. Their livelihood, our divine undulating hills in Mia Mia surrounded by nearly every mountain you can find in the Heathcote region give us the envious vistas we hope you will enjoy during your stay. There has never been a better place from which to enjoy and explore the good old fashioned hospitality of the Heathcote Region. Enjoy the great outdoors, friendly cellar doors, delicious produce, local art and craft but don’t forget to slow down, decompress and simply stay-in to enjoy the Vistas!

  • Victoria’s place was just wonderful - so peaceful, amazing views, and beautiful home. We felt very welcomed and well looked-after! The place had everything we could possibly need. Would definitely recommend.

  • Thanks so much for such a memorable stay in a beautiful pocket of Victoria. Your local recommendations helped to make our trip perfect, from Mia Valley Estate, to the Mt Ida Lookout, and especially the bottle of "The Gwen" was a superb touch. Mychelle and I both agree we'll be back as soon as possible. Thank you again so much for such a beautiful, clean, homely house to enjoy the wonders of the region. Cheers

  • Vicki is an extremely accommodating host who knows how to make her guests feel special and at home. Her place is located within 45 minutes drive of plenty of amenities, parks, wineries & attractions - but the view from the house and paddocks is equally as spectacular. Perfect for anyone who needs a secluded getaway and to unwind from the hustle and bustle of everyday life.

  • The best of tiny home living with a touch of country charm! I absolutely loved this little tiny home and would recommend this trip to my friends! It provides all the experience of a tiny home overlooking a stunning vista. The hostess was extremely attentive and made it that much easier to sit back by the campfire and enjoy a glass of red! Thank you so much.

  • We had a fabulous and relaxing stay here. The tiny house was warm and a perfect space for two people, plus the views were beautiful. Our highlight was getting a tour around the property by the two farm dogs who were super cute and friendly! Highly recommend this place for anyone wanting to experience a tiny house or needing a place to switch off for a few days. Part of the road up to the house is a little steep and rough so we were glad to have a 4WD.

    Sarah2019-07-19T00:00:00Z
  • A beautiful space in an incredible setting! Sunset and sunrise were both magical, my pup loved the two friendly dogs too! A very cute little getaway spot for fresh high country air.

  • Such a great little place to stay! We loved the views, space and spa - all the things one needs on a country retreat. Tips for how to get to the shack, as well as what to enjoy in the area were fantastic.

    Sher2020-02-08T00:00:00Z
  • This place is the best air bnb we have stayed so far! It's surroundings are beautiful beyond words! We loved the shack and it was so cosy and relaxing! Everything was provided by the host Patrick to make the experience so relaxing! Loved sitting out side with a nice cuppa and enjoying the serene views! The Jacuzzi was so good to relax with a wine and bed was comfortable! We were just able to indulge in nature and enjoy every moment! Our German Shepherd enjoyed running around the ample space and seeing the farm animals. You won't regret staying here if you like simplicity and the perfect rustic touches added to the shack! Thank you Patrick and we will love to visit this little gem once again soon!

    Ash2020-02-02T00:00:00Z
  • Patrick's place was a perfect getaway - tiny on the outside, but spacious on the inside! The cottage had everything we needed. Bed was super comfy and the rugs on the wooden floor lovely and cosy. Loved the choice of sitting on the front or back veranda to stare at the cows. Interesting history to explore. We'll be back for a longer stay!

  • Janis' cabin was the perfect stop over for us between Canberra and Melbourne. Janis had left us some goodies for breakfast which was a lovely touch. It was lovely to be on the farm and listening to the animals, wish we could have stayed longer.

    Hope2019-06-07T00:00:00Z
  • Janis's house was lovely and clean and ready for us when we arrived. We loved the cows, alpacas and sheep in the paddocks nearby and the birds and wrens flitting around the gardens outside the door were really lovely.

    Jessie2019-04-28T00:00:00Z
  • We had a good stay at Janis’ place. She was such a friendly and nice host and the unit had everything that we required.

    LIzette2019-02-24T00:00:00Z
  • We loved to stay at Janis's place! Janis was very charming with us! She gave us nice tips for hiking, introduced us to the lovely and friendly animals in the farm, and showed us some of the birds flying around. The cabin may be a bit old, and can be a bit too hot during summer but for us it is fine as it is in the middle of the nature! The water is from the tank but drinkable, we did not have any issue at all! The kitchen was well equipped and some food for the breakfast was provided. You can feed the cows with the fruit skins or some veggie scraps (but confirm with Janis first). We enjoyed a lot feeding them ;-) The place is ideal for night sky watching (with or without a telescope). During the day, we spotted a few kangaroos, lots of birds (including lorikeets, magpies, cockatoos, fairy wren, ...). Mount Piper is just by the farm if you are interested on some close hiking or enjoy the views. Also Kinglake National Park or Macedon Rangers are not so far (40-60 minutes by car) for more hiking. Edgar's Mission Farm Sanctuary is only 30 minutes by car from the house. It is a lovely place to visit, but you need to book in advance! Broadford and Kilmore are the two closest towns (5-10 minutes by car).

It is clean, tastefully decorated with all the amenities and quality products. The property offers so much to do and see. I would highly recommend it to people looking for a peaceful stay close to Melbourne.

  • Cute cottage, spotlessly clean, everything you need for a summer or winter getaway. Debbie was kind enough to supply gluten free bread for me for breakfast along with fresh eggs, bacon, milk, butter and muesli. Can’t say enough about this place surrounded by wildlife and chooks which are so friendly they come up on the balcony to say hi. Lots of tables and chairs scattered on the decking, in the garden and under a large tree. Communication was spot on. Great balcony where it would be perfect to sit on whilst booking a bbq and having a quiet drink. Quiet, peaceful and whilst we came in summer it would also be great in winter with the wooden fire. Comfy large beds, lovely furnishings and decor. Well equipped kitchen and large living area.25 minutes to Hanging Rock and close to Kyneton and Woodend as well. Can’t fault this place. Look forward to returning.
