Food Scene

The Lido is 15 mins walk from the flat and is a great place for weekend brunch/breakfast. Get there before 11 for the breakfast menu and enjoy your coffee overlooking the pool and the swimmers. Ignore the Victoria Public House. It comes up in this link as one and the same but it isn't. It's a dive of a pub next door.

Poco is about 5 mins walk from the apartment - straight down the steep hill and into Stokes Croft. Stokes Croft is Bristol's Shoreditch (well as close as you're going to get) and is a great place for people watching, junk shops, graffiti and street art. Poco does fabulous breakfasts and brunches, and lovely tapas in a lively environment at night.

Hart's Bakery is in the arches underneathe Bristol Temple Meads railway station, so a drive away. But if you're arriving/departing by train, or taking the train to Bath, it's the best place for pastries and breads, as you'll see by the queue going out of the door.

Drinks & Nightlife

Cargo 1 is a recent addition of bars, coffee shops and restaurants on Wapping Wharf right on Bristol's harbourside. A lovely place to have an artisanal beer and a bite to eat in the evening before wandering along the dockside.

Everything Else

Forget the word museum, the SS Great Britain is so much more. You really could spend the whole day exploring it, there's so much to see and do. Good for children too, as there's plenty that's hands-on - including climbing the rigging. Couldn't recommend it enough.

The Mud Dock cafe has great views out over the harbourside and is a good place for coffee/evening meals. But more importantly it's the best place to park if you're embarking on a walk around the harbourside. 2 hours in the machine will give you enough time for a leisurely walk.

Sightseeing

Do walk around the harbour. It should take just over an hour to go all the way around. It's a fabulous walk with lots to see. If you get tired you can get on a ferry and there are plenty of coffee stops along the way for a pick me up. The Underfall yard is still a working boatyard and a great place for moseying around. The Cottage Pub right next to the water does standard pub food in big portions and is one of the best places to catch the evening sunshine in summer. It's also a good place to watch people messing around in boats. Brunel's Buttery does bacon sandwiches and mugs of strong tea which you eat outside on trestle tables by the harbour.

The bridge is beautiful obviously - but don't forget the bridge visitor centre on the Leigh Woods side. It's free to go in and is a great place to spend half an hour.

Shopping

We call it the anarchist pottery shop! Great ceramics here with a political edge and a unique style. Great gifts with a Bristolian edge.
