Lovely place to enjoy your coffee or early beer on the sunny terrace, serve recommendable lunch, too. Pittoresque location near little bridge, perfect for lazy trainspotting or watching the sunset. Few tourists, popular with locals and expats. Grab a pizza in the Pizzahütte garden just opposite you can bring your drinks along.

The "Ketwurst" used to be the Hotdog of the former East and people would cue up hundreds of metres to get one, that's how rare and well appreciated this weird, ketchup oozing giant bun with sausage was, the taste of freedom or so. Well, now it comes in organic quality and - as opposed to the old days and the Konnopke food stall - no more cues.

Kieze (residential areas of interest)

You are based in the former East now, the huge area of trendy Mitte / Prenzlauer Berg. It's mainly international and artsy and it's popular with families. Hot spots within the area are Kollwitzplatz, Helmholtzplatz, Bötzowviertel, Kastanienalle ("Casting Alley"), Gleimviertel / Mauerpark, Arnimplatz to name a few. To get a different taste of Berlin I suggest just some areas in the former West, where there are lots of migrants in the mix. Neukölln also boasts of the highest Hipster density in town. - Be aware that Neukölln gets very crowded on weekend evenings, so you might consider to have dinner elsewhere or to book in advance.

The eternal Neukölln-to-be, Wedding is not yet all gentrificated and hip (except for Sprengelkiez) which makes it a part of the city off the beaten track all yours to discover. Brimming with migrants from just everywhere, Wedding is as "melting pot" as Berlin can get. Especially nice is Badstraße, it features quite a few beautiful Gründerzeit-buildings, Turkish supermarkets and tea rooms. Fast food is relatively inexpensive, try the little Turkish lunch place at lively Eurogida market (inexpensive, exotic grocery shopping) near Gesundbrunnen-Center or grab some Syrian food at Aldimashqi on Grünthaler Str. A bit further down that quiet street you find hip F-Bar for coffee or drinks. At the very end of Badstraße, you find the nice Kater & Goldfish café on Exerzierstraße with a great variety of appealing snacks. On the way there you might stop at corner Pankstraße where you find one of the four suburban classisist churches by famous Carl Friedrich Schinkel. For further sightseeing check Berliner Unterwelten on Brunnenstraße near Gesundbrunnencenter which introduces you to WWII bunkers. Matching that experience you might want to stroll later trough large old Humboldthain Park an climb up the path up to the WWII Flak Tower where you have a great panorama view on Berlin without tourist cues and for free. From June till September you find an Art Gallery, the Tropez (Wiesenstraße 1), inside the public summer pool's kiosk.

Must see on Sundays, huge fleamarket with lots of pros but still quite a few private vendors. Abundance of food stalls. If you like cultures in all the vast senses of the word, if you like art, too and if you are interested in political stances on art / culture, this is your museum. Old West Berlin culture institution of the post war era hosting art, theatre, concerts, festivals in one of the weirdest buildings in town. The locals call it "Schwangere Auster" - pregnant oyster. Which you find - funny side fact - adjacent to chancelor Merkels office building the locals dubbed "washing machine" - feel inspired for your next insta posting? The Haus der Kulturen der Welt is located in the Tiergarten park at the Spree river with indoor and outdoor restaurant / café space, nice views and ideal to be combined with strolling through the park or along the river. You ca also get on a tourist boat there. Or you rent an e-scooter and enjoy a fun ride to the sights nearby: Schloss Bellevue where the republic's president resides, the Siegessäule and even to Brandenburg Gate - the vast alleys of the Tiergarten area and the parks itself are just made for cycling or scooter rides.

Pay 3 EUROS, have an excellent workout climbing up the stairs and enjoy the fantastic 360° view over the whole Tiergarten park, with all the major sights lined up at the periphery.
