Where to grab a coffee

We don’t have the best coffee spots sadly, but we do have a few!
This is a cute little joint that has good atmosphere & coffee. There is also a small food menu. They are really good to accommodate dietary restrictions & prices are reasonable! The only downside is they are currently not open during the weekends.

Food scene

A great little Resto that offers amazing salads and sandwiches for a reasonable price during the day & delicious pasta’s and fish entree’s during the evenings! I would tell you my favourite but I haven’t tried something I didn’t love from here! Call ahead to make a reservation if you can, it’s usually a busy spot!

Where to grab a beer

This is a restaurant & bar. They have a wonderful patio & beer garden in the summer where you can enjoy a beer while watching the sunset over the water. Their food is classic pub food and is decent for around here. They have a smaller bar upstairs where there is often live local artists playing during the weekends. This is usually a pretty busy spot!

This is our local pride & joy! Stop in on thursdays to enjoy trivia night or the weekend during the summer to hear live music. They often have a local food truck parked outside their building to help fill your stomachs. They also have a patio to enjoy during the summer season.

Must see (family friendly) hikes

Relatively simple hikes, but worth it!
This is one of our classic views here in Cape Breton. If you have the time it’s worth it! The hike itself is more like a long, long walk, but the view pays off! The hike itself is a 9.5km loop but I have never done the actual loop. It works out nicely to hike in and hike out the exact same trail. It is roughly 7km this way. You will often see moose on this trail so keep your eyes up! If it’s during the fall, keep your distance from them.

One of my favourite go-to places when I want to be near the rugged coast! It’s about 20-25 minutes from Sydney River and has a well groomed trail along the coast. This place never fails to be stunning.
