Kouzina is one of those places you don't want to miss. The restaurant is located at a central spot in Ermoupolis, which kinda resembles to the crowdy tiny roads of Paros or Mykonos. The stakes are high, because there are more than five restaurants one after the other. But Kouzina is at another level. Dining at Kouzina looks quiet an experience right from the start. Mixing traditional dishes of greek and cycladic heritage with more cosmopolitan techniques to create something new is the secret weapon of Kouzina.

Sta Vaporia is another spot I would suggest to go for a lunch or dinner. I mentioned lunch before, because the panorama that will unravel before you is magnificent. Their menu is interesting and the guys managing are very serious about what they serve. But in the end, anything with a view tastes great.

Ellinikon Cafe is located at the left bottom side of Plateia Miaouli, which also corresponds with the north end of the Agora. The menu is tight but the food is top notch. The restaurant itself is a masterpiece of cycladic-neoclassic architecture. Try the mix of sausages from Greece.

Abela is a great tiny beach. But I would like to mention the only restaurant there, as they do have a fantastic menu. Everything you may order there comes with a touch of finesse and extra efforts put into it to make it taste unique. The greek ingredients make it perfect but the combination with foreign ones and techniques makes it very tempting.

The Agora is like a spinal chord for the Ermoupoli. Everything else regarding shopping looks like has been spread from there. Although it has lost its glamour of old days, it still marks an unique experience. You can wander around the tens of shops for a full day without noticing.

My favourite place for a morning coffe and a delicious bougatsa, which is a typical greek breakfast pastry, consisting of either semolina custard, cheese, or minced meat filling between layers of phyllo. I love the semolina custard bougatsa, which is called "bougatsa krema". You gotta try this one!

Drinks & Nightlife

Mammo is located at the harbour, in the middle of tens of bars, bistros and restaurants. But I handpicked it because of the quality of service and products. From a morning coffee with a fresh homemade cake by the sea, watching the yachts and ferries passing by to a perfect lunch, continuing to the evenings and also closing with a cocktail during nights, Mammo is a perfect choice anytime.

What do you do when your wife is contracted with a new job in a new town? You do what you do best! You open the best cocktail bar in the town. That's Kouchico. Honestly the best bar for chill and top quality drinks and cocktails in a nice corner of the streets of Ermoupolis. Hidden but creating a garden atmosphere that can offer entertainment for all interests. They mix the cocktails with some greek spirits too.

Ciel (Previously known as Asteria) is the only place in the town where you can dip into the water and have a coffee. They changed ownership this summer (2019) but the feeling is almost still the same. An Aegean Bistro Beach Bar, combining the amazing dark blue of the sea with exquisite Mediterranean dishes. Their chef has also had experience in Florence. The atmosphere is very quiet, especially if you go early in the morning. After 11, they start rich a snack menu, kinda brunchy thing, which tempts you to stay until late afternoon, when it becomes more like a noisy beach bar, full of young people.

Sightseeing

The medieval settlement looks like coming out from the history books. You cannot miss it from any point in the town. You can take a car but also taking the steps is pretty interesting. It also looks a bit like the brazilian favelas, only much prettier. In the top there is the catholic monastery. There are a lot of interesting academic stuff to get along there. Prepare your camera to make some wonderful pics.

Parks & Nature

Varvarousa marks the starting itinerary of the northwestern wild beaches. If you ask for Nikos (mobile 6947308580) and the boat that starts from Kini (a picturesque village in the west) to the wild beaches, they will tell you about it. You will be owning a private beach for all day. The guy tours you in the morning until the north part of the island and then turning back, you tell him where to leave. You have then to choose one of the pickup afternoon hours for him. Nikos will come back and take you and serve you a drink.

Agathopes is a nice small sandy beach, located between Foinikas and Poseidonia. It is usually quiet and the quality of the sand makes it a great choice for the locals, but not only. The sea is fantastic also for the little ones while there are cafes, tavernas etc around.

The Archaeological Museum of Syros is one of the oldest in Greece and is located in the Ermoupolis Town Hall, which is the biggest building in the Center Plaza of Syros. Although not a very rich collection, one may find inside the Museum interesting artifact from prehistoric ages not only from Syros but also from other islands around. If you have seen around the islands in the souvenirs the tall white marbled guy, that's where the original one is.

For all of you who love history, Ano Syros is your spot. It is the oldest settlement on the island of Syros. It is inhabited continuously since its foundation, made by Venetian rulers in early 1200. It has the peculiarity that the majority of residents is Catholic in religion, but Greek speakers, as well as maintains the tradition of the founding of the village. The entire settlement of Ano Syros keeps its medieval character and has remained unchanged for centuries. Among the white house with arches is not allowed automobile traffic, which anyway is not easy due to the countless stairs crossing the village.
