On the door step
Stoney Point Beach and reserve is perfect for a swim in the summertime. Walking distance from Ponga Lodge Safari tent, Jack's Hut, Spencer Lodge, The Woolshed and Mana Sarovar, The Terrace and Lakeside Bach Holiday Homes. There is a children's play area, boat launch for smaller boats and jet ski's and to the left of the play ground is access to the lake front path that you can meander along (dogs welcome).
Stoney Point Reserve
153 Spencer RdStoney Point Beach and reserve is perfect for a swim in the summertime. Local History
Learn all about the history of Tarawera and the volcanic eruption in 1886 that annhiilated the famous pink and white terraces.
If you interested in the history of this fascinating area then a visit to the buried village is a must. The village of Te Wairoa was established by the christian missionary in 1848 as a model village, it survived fewer than 40 years before it and the nearby Pink and White terraces were obliterated by the eruption of Mt Tarawera in 1886. This archaeological site reveals the original village that was buried in the eruption

Fishing
If you are a larger group then we recommend taking a fishing charter with John Hamill of Cruise and Fish. His luxury catamaran, Nimue, is surveyed for up to 20 people and depending on the time of the year and what fishing technique there can 8 to 10 people fishing at one time. Please contact us for a great time in our very special part of New Zealand.
We can provide scrumptious BBQ menus for breakfast, lunch or dinner, catering from finger food to a three course menu, or have your catch cooked in the hot thermal springs on the lakes edge. Tea, coffee and light refreshments are included, we are also fully licensed and a selection of beer and wine is available for purchase. $325 per hour minimum 3 hours.
