One of the finest church in the whole Algarve. Dating back to 1707, re-built after the Great Earthquake of 1755, it is a fine example of the Baroque style of architecture. It has one of the most breathtaking interior and its baroque gilded woodwork decoration is considered to be one of the finest in Portugal. The walls are covered in 18th century blue and white azulejo panels. It is classified as a National Monument.

Completed between 1679 and 1690, the Fort was used to guard Lagos by protecting the river mouth from attack. In the 1600´s the coast was under regular attack of pirates and corsairs, in addition to the Spanish who bombarded the Algarve during the Portuguese Restoration War (1640–1668). This led to the construction of a string of forts. The fort is very nice from outside but not much to see inside.
