(518) 678-3250 #1 Best breakfasts and lunches ever... The Circle W old time market not only has a good selection of goods on the shelves, but also offers delicious sandwiches and baked goods. As if this isn't charming enough, you then get to eat seated at antique porcelain top tables. Check out the Ruben sandwich, 1 sandwich can be split for 2... Open until 5 PM everyday, except for Holidays. Great food and great vibe...it has it all!

(518) 943-1888 Call ahead and do a quick takeout! This is the best Chinese/Japanese restaurant. The food might take a tad longer to make than some other Chinese places--but it is completely worth the wait. This is one of the few fast-food Chinese eateries I have had take-out from, which wasn't swimming in grease! Don't get me wrong--I LOVE my greasy foods --but in this case, it was very nice to enjoy the "clean flavors" without the oily after taste! Definitely recommend! We always order the sesame cold noodles.

Drinks & Nightlife

(518) 678-9332 The food is excellent and the bar is friendly. Owned by a local family and frequented by locals it's a place with a great vibe. In the summer it is lovely to eat outside on the deck overlooking the stream. And try Aunt Jenny's Pies. From time to time they have local bands and holiday parties which are always fun. Shore nights in the summer are also amazing!!! Check them out!

Wonderful easy hike to amazing views of the falls. Kaaterskill Falls is a two-stage waterfall of Kaaterskill Creek. The two cascades total 260 feet (79 m) in height, making it one of the highest waterfalls in New York, and one of the Eastern United States' tallest waterfalls. It is right up the mountain on the way to Hunter. My neighbor Joel enjoys guiding people through the falls. You can reach him at 518-678-3189. Contact him ahead. To get to the landing that overlooks the falls: Turn right onto RT-23A 6.2 mi Turn right onto N Lake Rd / CR-18 1.8 mi Turn right onto Laurel House Rd Unpaved Road 0.4 mi Arrive at Laurel House Rd on the right The last intersection is N Lake Rd / CR-18

Swim, Hike, historic area with beautiful views. A lovely hike from North Lake is the site of the Catskill Mountain House. It was an enormous hotel--one of the great Mountain Houses of the Catskills. It was destroyed by fire in the 1960s, but had been abandoned long before. My neighbor Joel enjoys guiding people through these hikes. You can reach him at 518-678-3189. Contact him ahead of time.

You can see the bond between the animals and their owners. Many of the animals were raised as infants by their owners. Large cages. The bears looked as clean as dogs who just had a bath! The children's playground was large with a lot of fun equipment. It was great to feed the animals. Everyone was so friendly. A wonderful place to visit.

So many parks along the Hudson have little room to actually WALK alongside the river, but this park features a decent-sized walking path (also great for scooters, skateboards, and careful cyclists) where, if you cross the lane, connects with a walking path at another park: Catskill Point. The paths mentioned above are paved. This park also has a dirt path through the woods, located past the playground. This path is not long and leads to a historic neighborhood with very nice houses on Prospect Avenue. Other features of the park include a large playground for children of all ages, a boat launch and docks, barbecue grills, and large grassy area.

Arts & Culture

Great Art Exhibits! In addition to their two gallery spaces at 398 Main Street in Catskill, Greene County Council on the Arts runs a great arts initiative called Masters on Main Street. The project brings recent grad students from top MFA programs across the country (RISD, SAIC, SVA, etc) to the village of Catskill. Artists fill storefronts and abandoned spaces with sculpture, photography, painting, installation, and video.

Friendly interesting artists studio. As the name implies, it serves a dual purpose-both storefront gallery and a working art studio for Catskill artists Dina Bursztyn and Julie Chase. The artwork covers a mind-boggling array of media from ceramic sculpture to drawing, from found object assemblage to book art. And it's all thoroughly intriguing stuff."

Open May-October Saturdays 11 am-2pm & Sundays 1-4 pm The Kiersted stone house was built in sections with the east wing being the earliest, c. 1727. Subsequent additions to the west end included the parlor and the joining of a stone outbuilding to the main house in 1800. Preservation of the interior of the Kiersted House is evident in the original wide plank floors, 18th century glass-paned windows (some bearing family inscriptions), much original iron hardware and century old concrete floors with inlaid design.
