A nice short trail to see the coast! To get there you take the Onomea Scenic drive (4 miles) and you will pass both the botanical gardens and What's Shakin
This is about a mile hike down to the bay where a steam meets the ocean. Stunning! Park along the side of the road. About 6 miles north of Hilo
Beautiful scenic drive (or bike ride). Follow highway 19 north of Hilo. Between mile marker 7 and 8 take the right hand turn that is marked "scenic Drive". Combine with a visit to the Botanical Garden.
Cross the Highway coming out of the Akaka Falls area, the same road as Hawaii Tropical Botanical Garden is called the famous 4 Mile Drive. The most beautiful drive with incredible views and water ways with plush tropicals. My favorite drive into the most beautiful place on Earth! Stop at a little smoothie shack and sandwiches called, "What's shakin", farm fresh! Open 7 days from 10am-3pm. Down the Windward side heading towards the Hamakua Coastline starting at Papaikou driving up to Pepeekeo towards the Sugar Mill. Total beauty, our favorite escape. I keep looking for Elvis coming out of the palms with his guitar singing a Hawaiian Song! :)

The entrance to this trail is easy to miss as there is not much in the way of signage and no parking lot (just park on the side of the road) but it's a pretty trail down to the coast and the pathway intertwines in several places with the pathways of the Botanical Gardens listed above.
