The name of the bridge is derived from the Higashiyama Daishi Sakae-sai gate, which opened a kabuki hut in the eastern corner of the bridge. In the 16th year of King Hein-ji (1626), Shibai and Yukoku were proclaimed on the south side of Doton- The name came from Kyoto. It is unclear when the bridge was built, but it must have been built as a passage to the shibai-hut.
