Tips from locals
Going up or down Rua da Bica in the Bica Funicular is with no doubt a "must do" experience in the city. If you happen to climb your way up, then take a detour to Bairro Alto.
is one of the main attractions of the city. It consists of two carriages, each with three uneven compartments and independent access, with capacity to carry 23 passengers (nine sitting). It’s open every day from 7am until 9pm. On Sundays and public holidays, trips begin at 9am.
The Bica funicular is the most picturesque in Lisbon. The ride takes people up and down the much photographed Rua da Bica de Duarte Belo, from Sâo Paulo street to Calçada do Combro and Chiado. A hotel opened in the building where the funicular doesn't run; that's when the street's bars open their doors and the atmosphere becomes truly magical.
