Travel like a local

Denver continues to evolve from its roots as a 19th-century mining town to a hip urban epicenter of art and culture. But ask any Colorado natives, and you’d know the cool factor isn’t anything new — they were just too busy climbing mountains and brewing craft beer to alert us. Discover Denver’s most unique things to do with the local experts through Airbnb Experiences, who can take you on sunrise hikes to Red Rocks, through the city on art tours or pub crawls, and even for activities at an Alpaca ranch.

Times can be adjusted, please message if you would like to see if we can fit your schedule. I consider Steve Ross a good friend and look forward to sharing stories about him and his dad. You will learn the how's and why's of making this wet-on-wet technique flow from your fingertips - well at least make a grand effort for your first painting. You can look for this to be fun, entertaining and educational. Class is set at 2.5 hours but for one or two students in a class you could be done quicker, if four or more in a class it may run longer. Other things to note: Remember we are working with oil paints, and it may not come out of clothes. Wear something you don't mind getting paint on.

GLACIER HIKE & GEOTHERMAL CAVE POOLS
(St. Mary's Glacier) Join us on a hike up to St. Mary's Glacier all year round (transportation provided from Denver or we can meet at St. Mary's). We will ascend through the stunning Colorado forest and end with a breathtaking panoramic lake view. This is one of our favorite hikes in Colorado (1.5 miles round-trip). (Indian Hot Springs) Next, we visit another historic landmark and soak in the natural geothermal cave pools, which will be perfect for our muscles after our hike and is included with the price. Due to demand of geothermal cave pools the caves sometimes get a little busy but sometimes they are completely empty. (Beau Jo's Pizza) Afterward, we will eat lunch at Beau Jo's. The building has been around since 1880 and is one of Colorado's hidden gems. Idaho Springs has a population of 1,717 people and is a gold mining town founded in 1859 during the Gold Rush. If you want an experience with little risk and a whole lot of reward, this tour is for you. I provide all the equipment, just come properly dressed and get ready to explore all of what colorful Colorado has to offer in one single day. Other things to note In order to do this hike: *Note: The geothermal caves are gender separated, but if you let us know 2 weeks prior we can reserve a private bathe or outdoor jacuzzi.

Sacred Cacao Circle w/ Guided Meditation
Join me and take a journey back to your heart in a unique Denver experience like no other! For thousands of years, the ancient Maya, Olmec, and Aztec civilizations used cacao to connect physically and spiritually back to each other and back to their hearts. A Maya legend tells of when there is an imbalance between Humans and their activity and Earth, Cacao comes from the rainforest to remind people of their hearts and return the Earth to a state of harmony. During the winter months, this event is hosted indoors at the RiNo Yoga Social Studio. The address will be provided at the time of booking. We will prepare for the cacao ceremony by sitting in a circle on our yoga mats. After a spiritual, elemental, and cosmic invocation, we will drink our cacao together (A sacred cup of hot chocolate). I will then lead you through an invigorating 20-minute breathwork session, followed by a guided meditation to ignite you into your truth. On this 1.5-hour journey, you will experience firsthand the heart-opening magic of cacao. No experience is necessary. Please come with an open mind and heart. Please reach out with any questions about this experience or request additional times/days. Private group ceremonies are available. A Yoga mat, and ceremonial cacao drink will be provided. The cacao drink is vegan. Please let me know if you have any food allergies.

Taste Denver Like a Local Foodie Tour
Denver's most unique foodie experience! Each food tour is unique as we rotate through some of our favorite locally owned eateries, so please know up front that each tour is planned individually and is not a daily rotation of the same tour every time. In the 14 years of food-touring across Denver, Boulder, and Fort Collins, Megan has made relationships with dozens and dozens of chefs and restauranteurs. So, that enables our tours to be different as we feature many different places total but only 5 or so per tour. We'll meet, greet, and then head to stop one to eat. On our food tours, guests will learn about the local Denver food scene, taste chef's choice foods and bartender's choice beverages, and learn about the neighborhood we're touring. We currently explore LoHi for our AirBnB Experience. Guests learn the exact itinerary at the start of the tour, but can expect at least five stops over the course of three hours. And we always end with dessert! Eat, drink, walk repeat! Dietary restrictions and food allergies communicated in advance are usually easily accommodated. Your guide will either be Megan (local food tour owner) or Linnea (local food writer).
Pareidolia art experience with Rebecca Barra
Pareidolia art class and art tour Hello! Come experience my Pareidolia art class and tour my unique, local Denver home studio, which showcases 80 of original works. Located in eclectic Five Points, which is walkable to the Rino Art District and some of the best restaurants and breweries in Denver! Pareidolia: A psychological phenomenon that causes people to see patterns (faces) in random or ambiguous visuals. This often leads to people assigning human or animal characteristics to objects and shapes. I have created an art technique that explores this phenomenon. In this class, you will choose from serval pareidolia prints in which you see a face or animal, then pick from an array of markers and colored pencils to color, draw and bring to life the creatures you see. We break away from the classroom setting and sit on my cozy couch with a lap desk. I will provide tips and directions whilst playing psychedelic music, in hopes of sending you into flow state. Flow state is a magical place where ideas come flowing in, time doesn't exist and realizations occur. Before class, I can explain some of my own pareidolia art pieces. My ‘Translating For Trees’ series is my most recent collection where I paint on wood using my pareidolia technique. People love seeing these in person and hearing the stories the trees have to tell. I hope to share my class and life’s work with you!

Scenic Sunrise hike through Red Rocks
Hikes will depart rain or shine : ) Uber and Lyft both come here and cost between $20-$30 one way. I will give you specific directions for our meeting place & from there we'll hit the trail at an easy pace. I'll give you some of the history of the area & show you amazing views for photos. This is one of Colorado's most beautiful hikes. If you are looking for an easy hike that is jam packed with gorgeous views, this hike is definitely for you! It's well worth rising early to take this hike, when the sun first hits the rocks - the views will take your breath away. We'll take plenty of time for picture taking & rest stops. It's a 1.5 mile hike. There is a slight elevation rise on the last 1/2 of the walk that is very doable for even novice hikers. We stop often so there is plenty of time to take in the view, take amazing photos & catch your breath. The time of the hike varies between 70 and 90 minutes depending on the size of the group. You will leave with incredible photos that your friends will envy. Along the way, if we are lucky, we will see some of the wildlife that call the park home. We'll end the hike back where we started & you can visit the amphitheater on your own while enjoying snacks & a Cold Frappuccino I provide. This is an easy to lightly moderate hike good for most skill levels. There is a gradual incline of 325 feet.
Half day Hiking to Three beautiful alpine lakes
We'll meet in Denver and go about an hour and a half to three different alpine lakes. Transportation is included. The hike to the top is less then 4 miles (2 up and 2 down) with spectacular views below of the lakes. It takes about 3 hours to do the whole the thing and then we come back to Denver. I have hiking poles you can use. In the winter I have snow shoes and micro spikes you can use. It takes about 4 hours instead of 3 because of the snow and because we can't park at the upper lot. We have to park at the lower lot and that adds an extra 25 minutes up and down.
Explore Denver by Bike on Half Day Tour
We will start our tour in 5 points and (Rino) River North Art District, which features a variety of breweries and art galleries in revamped industrial building covered in dozens of beautiful murals. We will head about 10 minutes to pass by Coors Field where the Major League Baseball's Colorado Rockies play and a nice spot for a quick pic. A couple blocks from there is the Dairy block and alley which is home to dozens of restaurants, bars and retailers, along with a modern co-working space. Just around the corner is Union station which was preserved and revitalized in 2014 as a shopping, dining, and cultural destination. We will then head over millennium bridge to where the Platte and Cherry Creek river converge which is also home to the largest Rei located in a restored 1901 Denver Tramway building. We will bike down the Cherry Creek path for about 15 minutes before going over to Larimer Square, the city’s first block. We will pass by the 40 foot Big Blue Bear gazing into the convention center before stopping at City Hall and the gold dome capital building. From there we will bike thru Cheeseman Park, which was once Prospect Hill Cemetery and plenty of ghost stories. From Cheeseman park we thru the quiet streets of city park area and Whittier to where we began in 5 points which was once the Harlem of West. We know the best and safest ways to explore Denver.

Your guide to Denver

Where do the locals hang out in Denver?

Lower Downtown (LoDo)

LoDo hosts some of Denver’s best places to eat, drink, and shop, not to mention a list of historic superlatives. The district, which was established as the original city of Denver in 1858, also sits adjacent to Larmarie Square, the oldest block in the city. Whether you are here for a morning stroll, lunch, or a night on the town, there’s always something going on over here thanks to more than 100 dining and shopping spots.

The Lower Highland (LoHi)

This neighborhood serves as the city’s cultural district. Here you can see old and new before your very eyes: Victorian homes, 19th-century brick warehouses, modern apartment complexes, and mixed-use buildings clash from block to block. Still, no one seems to notice (or care) in places like the Avanti Food and Beverage hall, where a variety of vendors serve up fresh fare.

River North Art District (RiNo)

While the Denver Highlands showcases a more polished urban playground, RiNo honors the creatives of the city as the premiere art district. Murals seem to splash onto the sides of buildings in the blink of an eye, as revelers sip on brews at a rockabilly-themed brewery before they head out to an open-house at an art gallery.

What are the best outdoor activities near Denver?

Situated at the base of the Rocky Mountains, Denver is the perfect launching point for some of the best outdoor activities in the entire United States.

Hike Red Rocks Park and Amphitheatre

While it may be best known as a concert venue, Red Rocks Park is also a favorite spot, just 15 miles out of Denver, to hike, mountain bike, practice yoga, and more. You don’t have to be an avid hiker to enjoy the sights here, be it along the 1.5-mile Trading Post Trail or the 6-mile loop on Red Rocks Trail. It’s also a great place to catch a sunrise.

Explore Eldorado Canyon State Park

Situated about 30 miles northwest of Denver, this Boulder County state park offers four hiking trails, as well as opportunities to fish, rock climb, picnic, and more. There are some 500 routes for climbers at “Eldo,” as it’s known affectionately by locals, who love going to this hidden gem of a park.

Take a day trip to the Rocky Mountains

Whether you travel into Rocky Mountain National Park, or explore the perimeters, this is one of Mother Nature’s greatest gifts. Peaks rise up from 7,860 feet to 14,259 feet in elevation, making for picture-perfect moments whether you’re on foot or in a car, including the chance at night to enjoy some astronomy as millions of stars explode across the sky.
