“I stayed at Kakariki Cottage for 14 days, self-isolating after getting out of the UK and back to my home country during the escalation of the Covid-19 crisis in late March 2020. I couldn't have picked a better spot to de-stress and spend two weeks. Little touches made all the difference, like some ginger crunch (iconic NZ cake) in the fridge, immaculate bathroom and a super cosy bed on the inside, and sitting out on the deck in the sun meeting the occasional wandering sheep and watching native birds flitting through the trees, on the outside. Even the odd bit of rain was enjoyable when inside such a great little cottage, and night-times were so peaceful; despite the lure of the big TV I would often step out on the deck to look at the stars and listen to distant Ruru (native owls). I also got to know Nathan, Courtney and their neighbours, chatting over the fence from a safe distance, so it certainly didn't feel like 'isolation'. If the weather is good and you have sturdy walking shoes, ask about going for a wander around the farm and pocket of native bush, especially if you're a keen photographer. I didn't get beyond some walking around the local country roads, but I do know from previous experience living near this area that the farmers market and waterfalls etc as recommended by the notes in the accommodation are well worth a visit. One day I hope that some friends from the UK will visit me in NZ and I can send them to Kakariki Cottage too.”

“Diane is amazing. I was on a cycling tour of New Zealand that was suddenly turned upside down by the need for Canadians and others to return to their home countries due to Covid-19. She was extraordinarily helpful with the logistics of my unplanned return. I can’t thank her enough or praise her enough. Diane is good people.”
A tramping-style A-frame chalet nestled against rimu trees on the edge of a stunning 15-acre native forest block close to the Hunua Ranges in rural South Auckland. Built by the owners using macrocarpa timber grown on the property, it was intended to be a place where their grandchildren could enjoy sleepovers in the forest and afternoon adventures. They soon realised though, that such a special place should be shared so they decided to make it available to others. Cosy in winter, cool in summer!
“A totally magical little escape, we cooked every meal over over the pot belly fire and lost ourselves in the silence of the bush. Perfect place to slow down and take stock, definitely recommend :) :)”
