Two Bedroom House on a Beach Lot

Already Planning My Next Visit! From the moment I arrived I knew I wanted to stay even longer. It is truly a Nature Lodge in every sense of the word and exactly what had been missing from my trip thus far. Being a non diver I was worried there wouldn't be enough for me to do but it was quite the contrary. I went kayaking in the mangroves ( saw jellyfish, monkeys, and schools of fish), rented a bike and rode to the lighthouse one day and the Ngezi forest the next lounged by the pool, and swam in the ocean. The one thing I wanted to do on Pemba was see the coconut crabs and the staff made such a huge effort to allow that to happen. Everyone mentions the food in their reviews here and they truly do have such a wonderful selection you could never get bored or the same thing twice. And wine! So hard to find a place with wine on Pemba. It made me quite happy. Mike, the owner is the ultimate host and truly ensures that your stay there is unique and enjoyable until the very end. I very much can't wait to return.

Pemba Moonlight Guesthouse Bungalow 2

MarkRating, 5 stars32 months ago
Just back from a lovely 6 night stay at Pemba Moonlight. It is a great place and Said and his family have put so much effort into the place. The bungalows are comfortable but occasionally the showers are a bit average. To be fair, the water supply to the whole area has been very patchy since the main water pipe burst so all water has to be tankered in. Breakfasts are good and we ate there every evening when we had a home cooked meal provided by Said's wife. On our last day we went on a visit to Tumbe fish market and bought 2 large red snapper fish and Said cooked them perfectly for us. Said was so helpful in organising some trips for us. He personally took us to the spice farm nearby and then on to Wete to see the flying foxes take off into the air at sunset. Definitely a trip to do. Another trip worth doing is the forest walk in the rain forest, the trip to the Fish market, Vimawimbi beach and finally the Seaweed ladies who make seaweed soap in the village very close by the guesthouse. The beach which is about 200m from the guest house has really good snorkelling (you have to swim out quite far to about level with the Manta Underwater hotel room) but when you get there the coral and fish are absolutely superb. There is no regular wifi at Said's but for a one off $5 charge, the nearby Ayiana hotel will put their password into your phone so you can use their's as much as you want. We went there for cocktails and/or beers and sometimes also used their infinity pool and they were super friendly. Sadly the Manta resort does not allow any non-residents to enter its grounds and is positively unfriendly to all locals and tries to stop them going on its beachfront. Such a shame really but what is Manta's loss is Ayiana and Pemba Moonlight's gain. If you want a good value authentic local guesthouse experience then go to Pemba Moonlight.

Three Bedroom Beachfront Villa

Sameer was a responsive host and very flexible to accommodate us last minute. The caretaker, Selemani, was also very hospitable and proactive in expecting our needs. The place is modern, clean, and private. I will definitely go back.

Pemba Moonlight Guesthouse Bungalow 1

RebeccaRating, 5 stars3 months ago
Staying at Said’s family-run bnb was total magic! Located right in the north of the island, 3-minutes walk away from the most sublime beach - white sand and turquoise water. The sun sets over the ocean. Said’s bungalows are lovely. Simple and clean, each with an en suite bathroom and an outside terrace with space to lounge. The bungalows are nestled in the deep shade of a beautiful garden that Said and his family have grown. Breakfasts are pancakes, fruit, coffee and tea. Dinners are delicious local meals, always with fish in the mix :) Pemba Moonlight is remote and other than a neighbouring hotel, there aren’t restaurants close by. So expect to eat most of your meals at Moonlight, unless you’re keen to mission. Said and his family are so warm and caring. They put in a lot of effort to care for their guests, and are embedded in their local community, so you can trust that money spent at moonlight stays on the island. Said will help with logistics/activities. 100% recommend!!!
