  • Iv been staying for a few weeks on a building site helping friends with a project... It has been an absolute pleasure to stay at the celtic nest when the weather has been really bad. What luxury to have a washing machine and smart tv at your disposal! The place is slightly rustic but very clean. And Adrian, the host, was very helpful when I needed anything, it was a real comfort to know he was just on the other end of the phone. I will definitely be staying here again.

  • This is a great apartment with a very central location for the small village in which it is located. I would definitely stay in the future. I booked very late (2 hours after check-in) and they were able to get me in within an hour. Excellent service, lovely space, and a very professional team running the show. Highly recommended.

  • This space was very comfortable and clean. It had everything we needed including a washing machine. It was right next to a shop where we were able to pick up eggs and bread to make breakfast in the morning. We enjoyed our stay here.

  • Lovely apartment right in the centre of Ahascragh. Comfy beds and all modern amenities. Hosts answered any questions we had promptly and kindly upgraded us to a larger apartment when we mentioned that we would be making use of the sofa bed in the living room. Thumbs up all round, can heartily recommend :)

  • This was this highlight of our trip. Loved the small town setting and had an amazing time at the attached pub. Locals are amazing and Sinead is the best! So much space to stretch out and very comfortable. When we visit Ireland again we will stay here again for sure!

  • Sinéad was a wonderful host. Right from the start, she made us feel welcome with a nice note, a box of chocolates, and everything we needed to make a nice cup of tea! There was even a very helpful folder containing information about the apartment and local area. This was the perfect central location for our planned daily road trips to various parts of Ireland, and it was great to have a place that felt like home to go to at the end of the day!

    Caitlin2020-03-06T00:00:00Z
  • What a lovely stay - couldn't be happier with our experience! The rooms were spacious and clean. The heat and hot water worked very well. The location is excellent for exploring the sometimes under-appreciated midlands of Ireland. I highly recommend this location. Thank you, Sinéad!

The Gate Lodge was built in the 1800's and serviced Castlegar House. On its doorstep is a beautiful avenue to take a stroll down to the grounds of the old house and stables. The Gate Lodge itself is two story with two bedrooms on the second floor. One room has a double bed and the other a futon. The Bathroom has both bath and electric shower with Kitchen and living room occupying the same space. There is a couch to sit 2, table to sit 4 and also high stools at the breakfast bar.
There is one room out of bounds on the ground floor which houses my personal belongings when guests take over my house.
I am 1 KM from the picturesque village of Ahascragh. Worth having a look at the old mill and steam running by it. Just a 10 minute drive away is Ballinalsoe which has all supermarkets, Train Station, Motorway to Galway and Dublin. Ballinsloe also has 2 swimming pools, gyms, restaurants, pubs with live music. If you want to experience staying in a property that is bursting with history then this is the place for you and your friends or family. Rookwood Gate Lodge is an 18th Century building that my family bought in 1980 and modernised over the years.
If you are looking for a fancy accommodation with room service etc then unfortunately we can't help! If you are looking for an experience then we can. Our 18th century gate lodge was, as the name suggests, where the gatekeepers of the famous Rookwood Estate lived. The main entrance of the estate is directly across the road from the lodge and the gatekeepers would open and close the gates for various visitors and nobles. Purchased in 1980 we have put enormous work in to not only making it a comfortable and quaint cottage but we have also maintained the character and essence of this Gate Lodge. It is the perfect place to explore the Midlands and West of Ireland and retire in the evening to a beautiful open fire and a glass a wine! And don't be deceived by the outside image of the lodge. It is much more roomy in the inside than it appears.
Rookwood is a scenic townland approximately 1.5 miles from Athleague village. It is a beautiful area for walking and cycling and the perfect spot to chill out and just get away from all the hussle and bustle of everyday life. Located 7 miles from Roscommon Town and 40 miles from Galway City is an ideal location for exploring the Midlands and West of Ireland. Even a day trip to the Capital is easy peasy!
  • Cosy and quaint house in a very quiet, rural location on the outskirts of the village of Athleague. Possible to walk into the town in about 20 minutes or so. Especially loved the sitting room with its open peat fire.

    Simon2019-09-01T00:00:00Z
  • Very nice little cottage. Very cosy with more than enough room. To escape the city I would highly recommend it

    Julian2019-08-25T00:00:00Z
  • Great place to relax

    Nigel2019-07-25T00:00:00Z
  • This cottage is very special, it is like a stay in the past. You must like old furniture and old-fashioned style (we did). It is in a quiet and awesome surrounding area. You must know that it is about 1 hour to Galway, 1.5 hours to Westport. It is really worth to stay there.

    Alexandra2019-05-17T00:00:00Z
  • Incredible value and comfortable gem. It was our 2nd time enjoying the gate house and Mary’s hospitality. Can’t wait to return again soon! Feels like home to us.

    Angela2019-04-26T00:00:00Z
  • We just loved this place. Mary showed us around and even got the peat fire going for us .. what a treat that was . A quiet location. We slept so well. Great advice on where to visit especially as we had so little time.

    Julie2018-09-18T00:00:00Z
  • Expect to be warmly greeted, treated with respect and importance. As this is an 18th century historic property, there are some amenities that may not be available such as air conditioning, but the gate house is clean, comfortable and wasn’t too warm at any point during our stay. We did have quite a bit of traveling to do and found it a bit of a drive to reach some destinations but there are larger towns and cities within 20-30 min drive. Car rental recommended.

    Angie2018-08-31T00:00:00Z
  • We had 6 people 3 adults and 3 children house was fantastic. Spacious enough for us all. The comfort in the house was amazing and we really loved place. Would highly recommend. If we are back that way would definitely book again. Price is very reasonable also. The house is really old and we loved that about it. Hosts were lovely and kind.

  • Marian and Flan offered me a warm and welcoming reception on arrival at their home. Both made my stay most enjoyable, are great conversationalists and insightful local guides. The accommodation was exceptionally clean with great artistic sketches created by Flan hanging on the walls and a super collection of books in the front living room! I shall most certainly return on my next visit to east Galway. Thank you to both.

Beautiful, peaceful, and tranquil location in the heart of the countryside, (this means it is in a rural, country setting, narrow roads etc), yet just 10 MINUTES AWAY FROM THE LOCAL VILLAGE OF AHASCRAGH, AND 12-15 MINUTES AWAY FROM BALLINASLOE. Also just 40km from Galway city and 30km from Athlone. Bright, Clean and comfortable accommodation, with quiet roads perfect for leisurely walks.
Local areas of interest include the River Suck, the ruins of Eglish Abbey and graveyard, Clonbrock estate and Woodlawn House. Ballinasloe is host to many hotels, restaurants, bars, shops, lesuire centre, golf club and driving range and Creagh Equestrian Centre.
  • Lovely home in beautiful surroundings

    Morgan2019-11-10T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely quaint secluded cottage. Well worth a visit. Only 15 mins from ballinasloe and motorway. Beds were very comfy and cottage was well equipped. Very reasonably priced. Wish Mary and Aoife the best success with it.

    Jim2019-08-05T00:00:00Z
  • The house is very good! Quiet, well-equipped, and even heating in July (a friend is very cold). The landlord was extremely friendly. When we found that there was no foil in the room for the oven, the landlord took the baking tray and foil to us at home, thank you very much! Seen from the kitchen, I can see a few calves and two white horses, romantic! There are two shortcomings, no Wi-Fi, far from the town (mainly through a few kilometers of single-lane roads, it is basically impossible to drive out at night). Other perfect!

A home of ease and warmth away from home in the heart of nature and the countryside, 3-5 min from Ballinasloe town, on the R355 and just 90 seconds from the M6 Motorway. Situated on Ireland's walking trail, the Beara Breifne Way. Within 20-25 minutes to Portumna, Loughrea and Athlone. Valerie and Fiachra are your hosts. Guest have private parking.
We live a little outside the town so it is surrounded by nature, peaceful and quiet. There is great light in the house purposely to give guest a lift in spirit and also at the same time providing a tranquil environment. I am a practicing Energy Life Coach, Trauma, Health and Wellness therapist so if there is a need for a treatment during your stay with notice this can be arranged
We are moments from the Dublin - Galway motorway tucked away in nature. Very close by we have super bogs and wetlands that can be explored and walked during your stay.
  • Valerie and Fiachra were more than kind and generous with their home and the way they reached out to us. I am from this town (Creagh, Ballinasloe) originally, but moved overseas some 40 years ago and have not been back since. They offered to help track down friends and family and even contacted my old school teacher for me. They gave us many great suggestions as to where to visit, like the workhouse museum in Portumna, which was moving and inspiring alike when we toured. They are wonderful, warm people who are connected and in tune with nature and people alike. I cannot say enough good things about them. Their home is quiet and peaceful, yet literally a 4 minute drive to the heart of Ballinasloe. The room was large with a en-suite bathroom that has a skylight in the bath to see the moon and stars at night. The room is in the house on the second floor so you live with the hosts, however; they were so quiet it was like having your own house. Anyone visiting Ballinasloe would be missing out if they did not consider staying here.

  • My friend and I stayed here only for one night, but o was it fantastic. Phenomenal couches where we sat and read by the fire for hours. Exceptional kitchen and bathroom amenities. Nicki really has thought of everything you could possibly need. We were sad to only stay one night here and would highly recommend it to anyone in the area. Getting to Shannon airport the next morning from here was very easy and this was a much better option than staying locally near the airport. We would highly recommend staying at Nicki's spot.

    Anna2020-03-09T00:00:00Z
  • Absolutely stunning stay, every single thing was thought of and the interior is so new and clean. We were absolutely delighted!

    Orlaith2020-02-28T00:00:00Z
  • Great relaxing stay at Nicki's place. Greeting with a warm welcome and some great info about the barn the before and after pictures. Lovely little touches of bread, milk, brown bread, butter. We brought down all our food and cooked and drank wine most nights in front of a warm turf fire with movies on a nice big tv, what more could you want. The bathtub you could sink into and a nice heated floor when you got out. You could hear a pin drop it was so quite and peaceful outside at night. There's loads of information available about the area for sightseeing. Would go back to this place in a heartbeat.

  • This place is amazing for a winter retreat. We went from the fire to the bath to the couch. There are also lovely forest walks nearby and great value local pubs and restaurants. Nickie is the most hospitable hostess possibly on air bnb. A more beautifully restored and tastefully decorated place you will not find.

  • I spent a night in Derek's place for a work trip with a colleague. I would highly recommend it. Derek is a very accommodating host. He was waiting to pick us up from the train station when we arrived from Dublin. He also gave us a lift to and picked us up from a job we had the following day half an hours drive away which was extremely helpful. His house is very modern and our rooms were very comfortable. Will 100% stay here again if I'm ever visiting Balinasloe in the future.

  • Sinéad is fantastic host, very quick communication. This is a beautiful old style family home adjoining the old family pub. Literally few steps home after a quiet nightcap, no noise from pub at all. Lovely home full of old character but spotless clean. 3 really good sized double bedrooms and 1 single room, so super value in a quiet rural area.

  • We had a lovely stay at Liz's place. It was sparkly clean and great communication from Liz. There is an Indian takeaway close by and a French restaurant called Petit Tatres with the most stunning cakes and food. Also a beautiful French home interior store with a general supermarket down the road. A very quaint village and beautiful walks in the area.

  • It was a great stay in a quite village. The apartment was very nice and clean. Liz is a great host and responds quickly. There are some pubs near to us, there is a Centra in few minutes walk away. The food served in the pubs only in weekdays. There is take away next to the building, which was handy and Roscommon city is 5 minutes drive away. Anyway it was a nice quite stay in the apartments. Thank you Liz.

  • Absolutely beautiful quaint house in a very remote location. Ideal for long walks in the beautiful woods that surround the house. Lots of local amenities within a 10 mins drive. Ballygar village had a great selection of pubs that do food and Roscommon was 20 min drive where there are lots of shops and cinema etc. Will definitely be back there again

    Theresa2019-09-23T00:00:00Z
  • We booked the house for a tranquil escape in this beautiful part of Ireland and that is exactly what we got. Joanna is an amazing host and answers all queries very quickly and efficiently. It was close to all amenities in both Roscommon and Galway, while being set in a beautiful woodland area with lots of lovely walks to unwind.

    Stephen2019-09-20T00:00:00Z
  • We really enjoyed your stay in Joanna’s house very much. It’s in a lovely location literally in the middle of the forest between Ballygar and Creggs but still only 15 minutes from Roscommon town. It is in an isolated place at the edge of the forest so you would need a car or motorcycle to get to it. It felt like a well loved house with lots of nice forest animal features on the wallpaper and the ornaments. There was plenty of space in the house and we loved the “chill out” area on the landing and the library downstairs. There was plenty of room for the 5 of us and the house could easily seller 8-9. There was plenty of parking on site for 3 or even 4 cars. We had several great walks in the forest, the idea escape from Dublin for a break! Definitely recommended and good value for money. The host was not living nearby but was very helpful and got back to us quickly with any queries. The house was clean and comfortable. We’d love to go back some day!

    John2019-08-22T00:00:00Z
  • This large 5 double bedroom property is a great home from home hidden in the countryside in the County Galway (but very close to border of County Roscommon) area of Ireland and is perfect for a base for the region or to truly lock yourself away from the world. The house is very well equipped to keep you entertained with a number of DVDs, books, games and music to keep occupied as well as a large kitchen to cater for all in your party. If the weather is great (which we all know Ireland isn’t know for) there is some great outdoor space for entertaining on. You can take your pick of area to relax in with a choice of 4 areas ( and that doesn’t include the kitchen or outside). The property is well heated with remote thermostats for upstairs and down and and open fire place. There is great parking with the property, a car I would say is essential to get to the house and venture to the nearest stores. The rural location adds to the character of this property and I wouldn’t restate to recommend it to all.

At The Bridge House we have 4 rooms available for rent in the beautiful, picturesque village of Athleague, Co. Roscommon. Our central location makes it a perfect place to stay while you explore the many fantastic sight-seeing opportunities within driving distance. On any given day you could explore the West of Ireland to places like Connemara or Galway City, head Northwest to stunning Sligo, Lough Key Forest Park or Bundoran or even venture south to the amazing Cliffs of Moher.
We are a family run public house with 4 rooms available to rent on a room only basis. The rooms are clean and have a TV, en-suite bathroom and tea/coffee making facilities. Three of the rooms have a double bed and a single bed while another room has a double bed and 2 singles. Our central location means it is ideal place to stay and explore some beautiful areas of our beautiful country such as the West of Ireland, Co. Clare, the Northwest and much more. And when you arrive back in the evening you can unwind in our friendly bar and mix with all the locals!
We are situated in Athleague which is a beautiful, picturesque village in Co. Roscommon. Our central location makes it a great base to head on day trips but if you don't feel like going too far, there is also plenty of ways to spend a relaxing day in the village. The river Suck is only a few hundred yards over the bridge beside us and there you'll find the Suck Valley Visitor Center. It is an old 19th century building which has been revamped and offers information on local attractions such as the 105km Suck Valley Way Trail, the 217 km Green Heartlands Cycle Route, or info about the wonderful Coarse, Trout and Pike angling in the area. The village is also home to a quaint cafe/restaurant called Les Petites Tartres where you can enjoy wholesome homemade food and a wonderful selection of deserts. And later on in the evening, if its something stronger you fancy, join us in The Bridge House where you can mingle with the locals and taste the finest pint of Guinness these shores have to offer!
  • A nice no thrills accommodation with a friendly, helpful host...if you are looking for somewhere that is upmarket/top end then this is not for you as you will be looking for fault rather than the value for money this location gives you. If you are a genuine visitor looking for a solid, comfortable, secure base to lay your head each night after a day doing your thing, at an affordable, cost effective outlay then this will be right up your street. I think Mike could do a lot more to promote the benefits of staying with him...the location offers so much for travellers with different goals...Fishing, site seeing, local history, traveling base, Nature trails, Photography, painting, homely 'Irish' pub and value for money, especially if two or more sharing a room. All of this and much more as soon as you walk out the front door...and when finished for the day you can relax with a drink in the bar, alcoholic or just tea and coffee, what more can you ask for :) With several rooms available it could easily accommodate small groups of 'like minded' people visiting the area for the purposes I mention above...fishing etc. Only downside would be that they don't serve food so you have to eat out but not really a problem when you know in advance and can plan accordingly...another local pub serves food and there is a lovely 'Tea Room' two minutes along the street that has amazing food and service.

He was very helpful and in case some problems occur he tried to do his best to solve them. A stay in Denis's house is highly recommended!

  • Had a great stay with Dennis. He is very helpful and interesting to visit with. Makes a great Irish Coffee!! Our girls enjoyed taking treats to the donkeys, sadly, the sheep Hammy Sammy is no longer around. A little off the beaten path but quiet, peaceful and beautiful.

  • Myself and my friend had a great overnight here. The accommodation is right on the main street yet surprisingly quiet and very spacious. We were delighted to find a good-sized kitchen, hot shower and good washing machine after 2 days of walking! We never actually met the owner but directions & check in was dead easy. A great spot in a quiet rural village.

  • House it very nice and comfortable, but location is the thing that really makes this place special. Right next to the water, close to the Cliffs of Moher, Doolin and other local attractions. Really beautiful. We only stayed one night. If I was to do it again I'd have stayed a few days. The place is set up so that a longer stay would be very comfortable.
